ours never worked since we had it but the weather here is mild and we just use heated seats if it gets cold enough...suddenly one day it started working again :D
Considered doing it myself once mine failed but there was not much good documentation at the time. So I asked Muxsan and he replaced it for I think €1200 incl. a second hand replacement PTC heater. Dealer quoted €3000+ so not too bad.
Ah it's fascinating that they changed the PTC heater over the years. In your video, they appear to heat the "coolant" thus emulating the ITC heating approach. In the AZE0 and later, they place the PTC within the HVAC box itself and heat the air, thus skipping the liquid/coolant entirely.
Im getting some gloves and doing the repair soon. If it doesn't work with the new old PTC, I think I'd rather fit it a diesel heater, stay hot and toasty instead all winter. Especially since winter starts in September in Norway
Awesome video, Dala. I'm planing to retrofit a chademo on ze0, doing it on aze0 vs ze0 is a huge difference. Got all parts and scratching my head if i need to film it or not...
Yeah, these are REALLY awkward to change !! I did mine 3 years ago, it had taken the 30A fuse in the DC/DC with it, sadly :-( Luckily I too found a known good used one, but doing both the PTC and the fuse was not a quick repair .......
The 2011 Leaf I bought a couple of years ago had a faulty PCT heater, I had it replaced with a 2012 one and is still going now. Luckily, nothing else wrong with the system. £500 fitted.
@@ghopkins66 you can go to the same HEVRA approved garage I went to then, eTech Midlands based in Syston, Leicestershire. I bought the heater off eBay myself and they they fitted it. If you can find one from a 2012 or 2013 Leaf all the better as there were 3 or 4 improvements made over the years.
Oh, the fuse is inside inverter? Wild. Is sticking the multimeter into the HV plug a bad idea? If the car tries to turn on the heater, you should get HV there, right? If it does not want to turn it on, it will of course measure nothing, which also could be a broken fuse then and more tests are needed.
There is also an interlock pin on the HV plug, so that needs to be clipped. Also the communication needs to work, so that it okays the voltage to the PTC. Not possible to test that on this vehicle, but on others it might be viable!
Sometimes we learn more from our failures than successes. 🤔 I enjoyed the video anyway, having completely stripped a gen1 Leaf I love watching your videos about them. Do you have any advice about using one of these heaters in an EV conversion?
@@DalasEVRepair Thanks Dala, I had a Leaf that I stripped but have already gone down the route of Outlander AC Charger as it is so much smaller and easier to get working. I will look out for an Outlander heater too.
I purchased a leaf which already had a heater swap with a BMW heater, pulls 100A from the 12v battery when enabled, and I can se the coolant temperature. Took me awhile to realize that the temp should be set to max, NOT to what you want the ambient temp to be, in order to get enough heat into the vehicle. That said, I'm starting to think that rather than trying to swap back to the factory heater, I'm better off sticking with this one
Hi , Dala what was the end of this PTC error storry?? Checking A/C auto fuse solve the errors problems?? I see description on this video and see after replace A/C auto amp PTC didn't work properly. Customer find solution of this problem??
Hi, I updated the video description; EDIT: SOLVED! I had the same thing happen on my fiat 500e. PTC heater for the battery TMS failed. Had to replace the PTC heater and the TMS fuse in the HV battery pack.
Dala, do you have, within any of your videos, an explanation of how to remove/repair/replace the J1772 charge port and cable including instructions on how to remove the cover off the head? Thanks. So many people have had this problem but no one seems to have recorded exactly how to remove the cable and re-solder the pins. Thx.
