I'm always fascinated how so many people outside the US have such a visceral reaction to root beer. 🤣
I am.Dutch, i worked with Italians from Sicilli. Alessio reminds me so much of these guys. I hear and see them when I look at this. They had me constantly bent laughing! But it was so nice working with them. I was treated like their little sister, nothing could have happened to me, I felt so safe and protected. This had never happened to me in the netherlands where you are expected to fend for yourself. I totally understand why she is in love with him, even when sometimes he would drive you crazy!
Actually if you go down the line of fountain drinks in a convenient store or restaurant it was called a "Suicide" drink. By mixing all the fountain drinks together.

Yes I was going to say that's a suicide. All the kids in little league baseball wanted a suicide from the concession stand after a game.
Also, Sundrop used to be bottled in Tullahoma, TN.
We called it an "around the world" when doing this.

The first time I saw Mellow Yellow in the store, my uncle told me it was bottled pee with sugar added. I haven’t been able to drink it since. lol🤣

Mountain Dew is not just the name of a soda, it's a centuries old name for illegal liquor. "They called it that good old Mountain Dew/ and them that refused it were few." That nickname for illegal liquor was widespread from Ireland to the Urals.
Mountain Dew was also originally made for the express purpose of being mixed with whiskey

He said that Sun Drop and Mt. Dew tasted the same but Mt. Dew came first in 1940 followed by Sun Drop in 1949; however, the Mt. Dew formula was revised in 1958. It would have been interesting to know how the 1940 formula tasted.

@natehollings The throwback one you're thinking of is called Dewshine and it's 10× better than what we have now. I think it was discontinued after like a year run 😔
The Dew from the 40s was made with the express purpose of being mixed with whiskey, food for thought.

Root beer is the only of those that I like!
When I was a kid (in the 70's-80's) we would mix drinks at the fountain and called them suicide drinks.

No! Do not! Do not judge carbonated drinks straight from the bottle. Pour each one over a glass of ice, let it set for a moment then try them again.

@@codename495 It will only be noticeably diluted if you pour room temp soda over ice. I do fridge cold soda with ice, and it's no problem. It's 86 deg here all day all year, so ice really helps to keep drinks cold.
@@codename495 part of what I love about fizzy drinks is the whole over ice in a glass glass. The clink of the ice against the glass, the bubbles up your nose, the slight pleasant acidic burn in the throat.
You have to realize that's how most Europeans like their sodas - barely cold or not cold at all. Many of them believe drinking ice-cold drinks will cause a terrible cold or some sore throat disease. And god forbid you stand in the draft because that may kill you.
Yeah, let's judge drinks and live the experience by NOT drinking them like everybody else.

Pasini's, you should go find an A&W Restaurant in your travels to try a Root Beer Float there! The Root Beer is from a tap and the ice cream is soft serve.

I love root beer, but just not a fan of the A&W brand. I like my root beer to have a bite to it. Thomas Kemper used to be my very fave, but not sure if they still make it anymore. Alessio if you like Mountain Dew & Sun Drop you should try Squirt soda. 😉

Now...with the Dr. Pepper... pour it into a small sauce pan...slice up a whole lemon into slices (rind & all) ..and gently heat it...and you have a warm winter drink... (i like extra lemon in mine) but its a completely different drink when you heat it & add lemon.
Have him try some Torani syrups mixed with soda water and see if he likes our "Italian" sodas 🙂
Root beer with a hot dog is the best in summer. Grew up in the Midwest loving root beer. Next is dr pepper 😊
I suggest you drink all these sodas in a cup with Ice. It makes a huge difference.
Next time you make Banana Pudding try using Vanilla Cream Oreo type cookies. Only thing you must let the Pudding set and thicken before you add the cookies. If you add the cookies as soon as you make it the cookies will fall apart, to moist. After you stuff the cookies into the thicken pudding you must stick it back into the fridge for the cookies to soften, you should wait at least overnight or 8 to 10 hours minimum. The longer the better. You can do this with Chocolate Pudding and regular Oreos or try Vanilla Pudding with red velvet cookies. Or Vanilla with Chocolate Chip. Just remember to let the Pudding thicken before adding regular cookies, they are not baked through as solid and crisp as a Vanilla Wafer Cookies. Enjoy and please video Banana Pudding Vanilla Cream Cookies, love you guys, keep tasting new stuff.

Took me years to like root beer. Now I get it whenever I go to certain restaurants like Chipotle because it pairs better with certain foods. I prefer Barqs over A&W root beer though.

Root beer used to be known as Sasparilla Root beer, which is from a plant root.
People who wanted the drink either made it at home, or asked for a Sasparilla if they went out to buy a beverage. Sasparilla , lemonaid and iced tea were the most popular summer beverages.
Very popular in the late 1800's, mixed with a few other herbs and roots. A & W is the best of the root beers and up here in 🇨🇦 we have been enjoying it since 1959.

Dr. Pepper is available in Europe too. You can find it in some shops in my country. Maybe it isn't in Italy or in his town or region.

Most of the sodas that have been around for some considerable time got their start as an actual medicine or a flavoring for medicine - Coca-cola, 7-up, Pepsi, Moxie, Dr Pepper, and Root beer.
Dr. Pepper was invented in Waco, TX by I think a doctor maybe? Or a pharmacist? bec it started as a soda drink you got at the pharmacy soda fountain counter. He didn't name it Dr. Pepper after himself, but after the last name of a girl he was in love with, so his amore? Any or all of this cld be wrong lol, except, as a native Texan, I am certain Dr. Pepper was created in Texas and almost certain it was in Waco.
For the whole American soft drink experience, next go to any gas station or fast food place and, as others have mentioned, run your cup under all the soft drinks. Very happy this is still a thing and still called a "suicide!"
Yeah, it’s funny, but the history of Dr. Pepper was offered up in google search today and you’re right. The inventor named the concoction after his girlfriend’s / fiancé’s (?) father Doctor Charles Pepper.

I know you do compare American vs. Italian because you're in the US, but try out some Canadian things together, please.....Ginger ale(my fav), poutine(has to have Quebec cheese curds!), ketchup chips, Nanaimo bars, and butter tarts name a few. I would love to see both your reactions to ketchup chips, especially. Also the Caesar drink was created in Canada for an Italian restaurant. Similar to Bloody Mary but after trying Spaghetti alle vongole the creator based the drink after that.

We are the exact opposites on this one. Dr. Pepper is my absolute favorite. Especially if it’s cherry or vanilla Dr. Pepper. And root beer is either 2 or 3 for me. And then waaaaaay at the bottom is Mt. Dew/Mellow Yellow/Sundrop all of which I will never drink.

when you get to Atlanta go to World of Coca Cola and after the tour you go into a big tasting room with many products from around the globe. So interesting and different and some are very good.

Dr. Peppeer tastes like fizzy prune juice. Poor Alessio...he tries all the worst stuff! Give him some corn-on-the cob, maple syrup on french toast, good mac and cheese (home made,) a Reuben, and corn chowder with shrimp!

Root beer comes from the root bark of the sassafras tree. You should have him try Henry Weinhard’s root beer and other sodas. Maybe that will convert him
