Fishing at 'Tiang 46' of the PENANG BRIDGE

- The iconic Penang is not only an important passage way that links the mainland to the island, but in the angling world it presents another wonderful opportunity to cast ones' rod. Fishing opportunities are available both in the Old and Second Bridge, as transport boats are available to ferry you there.
We boarded from Ujong Batu, Bagan Dalam. The boat ride is RM25 for a two-way journey and there is the option of fishing overnight too. Drop us a comment if you need more info on fishing here.

Tiang 46 perai used to be our fav spot during early 90's.. Still remember where 3of us standing on the same spot caught a total of 38pcs of small and mid sized grouper just for a halfday session.. During that time, peeled market prawns was the only bait we knew how to use.

Bagan Dalam, b4 the construction of the bridge, it was one of my spot for crab trapping, during my teenage years.

Thanks bosskur for your kind comments.. Definitely there are big ones at the bottom but it depends on the tide etc. That's what the locals told us, to just drop the lines at the bottom.. perhaps better luck next time! 🙌🏼🙏🏼👍

Question bro, carabiner secure the reel the other end of safety line secure to?
Hi bro.. the service providers have tied secure ropes/thick lines around each tiang with loops which make it easier to tie our rods. There are some open ended lines to tie directly too.. I just brought my own carabiners but the ordinary ropes available will suffice ✌️

Bro..almost all of the fish you got are from bottom technique..can you tell me what type of leader and rig did you use and is all of the fish caught using the bait that you got?
We caught mostly using the 'drifting' technique where no sinker is used. This allows the live bait to swim freely in the upper to mid section of the water thus attracting pelagic fishes. Bottom fishing is very popular here, as there are many who caught snapper, threadfin etc but it didn't work out for us on that day. Fishing boats that set up nets all around the bridge certainly didn't help either 😩

We boarded from Bagan Dalam. It is just before entering the bridge from mainland. There is also boarding site from the island. Just ask the locals and you will be fine 👍

Hi Aaron, we did not bring any bait with us as we relied only on getting live bait from Apollo. But but it's good if you can bring some.. Anything from udang pasar, kembung, pumpun etc. It'll give you more options. Coz sometimes currents are not favorable and it's hard to Apollo. So just bring some as insurance ✌️😆🙏🏼

@@itsaaronleetv There are several boarding points. We were supposed to board at the jetty after crossing the bridge but were held up due to the marathon. So we used the Bagan Dalam jetty before the bridge. But feel free to explore.. you won't get lost. You can also fish under the 2nd bridge it seems there are encouraging reports there. 20-30 lbs test shoud be ok. Cost of transport varies, the jetty after the bridge seemed to be lesser in price. Anyway, wish you guys good luck 🙌🏼🙏🏼❤️
