I found a new looking floor standing fan it was thrown away in a recycling bin because it had a fused plug and one of the pins in the plug was bent making it unusable, I took it home followed your video instructions and after the plug was changed the fan was fully working, what a great find for free, the owner didnt know you could just change the fused plug so the tossed it away wasting money. Great video, thank you. Laura in UK.
Wow that's absolutely brilliant!! That's one of the negatives of a moulded plug. A lot of people think they can't be replaced and end up throwing away the item. I'm glad this has helped and rewarded you with a free fan 💨
Excellent, easy to follow video. Saved me from having to buy a new fridge freezer - or wait years for my other half to swap the plug. Fantastic, thank you!
@@thedoitalldad Very useful thanks so much 😊 I went over to my mum's and boasted that I'm now a master electrician lol. She made a 🙄 face at me as she knows how much I joke around. I'm thankful for the helpful content you and others upload. The past few weeks I've learnt how to change a door lock and today a plug 🙌🏽
Thankyou! I just broke the whole plug when I tried to pull it out from the switch and it crumbled to pieces. This video helped me a lot to switch it out.
Brought a new single 3 pin plug as my makita battery charger cable lead has torn/split, came across this video & now ive managed to get it all working again 👍
Could I do this with a dishwasher? It looks as if they wires have become loose up towards the plug end. Would I need a specific plug? Willing to try this before dishing out on a new dishwasher .
Thanks, glad you found it useful. Depending on the wiring you have.. (Old wiring) red = live. Black = Neutral (Current wiring) brown = live. Blue = Neutral. Hope this helps
The lead of my floor cleaner has become loose where it enters the moulded plug and the plug becomes hot when charging - I actually smelt burning plastic. Would it be ok in the first instance to just fit a new plug to see if that resolves the problem?
Hello, what do you do if the plug has three wires? I replaced plug on a dehumidifier, and on plugging it in a second time, it sparked and tripped the sockets in my kitchen. Any advice? Thank you!
Perfectly clear, thx! I haven't yet done this but maybe exposing too much or too little inner wire for a plug could be a thing, but I'll perhaps do roughly 2cm or 3cm. It can always be corrected anyway, repeating the cutting steps.
Yeah that's something to play around with. If you have excess cable maybe have a little practice attempt first to see how much of each colour cable to expose 👍🏻
I remember learning this in school, but it doesn't hurt to revise. Any chance you have an email brother? I have a washing machine's plug that's damaged, but I'd like to know the root cause before I attempt any repairs myself, and if you wouldn't mind helping me out I'd massively appreciate it.
What CAN go wrong even if everything is done correctly? I mean why DO people throw them away? My washing machine cones with this plug and I'll have to do what you did so I can feed thr wire through.
Not a bad effort. But never strip a flex like that if you do use a knife the gently ring round the flex in the same way as you did the inner conductors point two strip the ends of the conductors longer than you need the twist and double over . Poin three that wire stripper throw it in the bin and get your self a pair of side cutters , there are two types available get the ones with two small holes in the cutting gores the makes a 1.5 and 2.5 and are for stripping the ends of the conductors. Also the neon screwdriver throw that in the bin as well they are dangerous if you stick that onto a live circuit you run a high risk of killing your self because the only thing between you and the purely gates is a small resistor and if that fails you will die. In the trade we call them widow makers . Sorry just trying to advise you. Yes I am a qualified electrician have been for thirty three years. Those moulded plugs should be banned as they are prone to overheating
Came back from my hol to find my deep chest freezer plug has fused :( can it be saved using the same method ? Fused plug - I’ve bought one for electrical appliances from wickes A little worried about blowing something up 🫣

My Henry hoover plug pin has bent going to wire a new one on now
Thanks mate good vid. They love making modern stuff more difficult to fix, yet they claim to want 'green'.
Glad you found it useful 👍🏻
Had to replace my vaccuum plug today, followed this video with anxiety lol and it worked! 😊😊
Glad to hear you got it sorted! 💪🏻
Thanks so much for this, you have just helped out an elderly widow and her stressed out niece!❤

I watched a different video on how to change a plug then realised it had no screws.
Thankfully I stumbled across your video 🙌🏽

Great vid! Quick question though, which wire goes to the live and which one goes to the neutral slot?
Thanks, glad you found it useful. Depending on the wiring you have..

Thank you for this video, very clear instructions. Was able to change my socket for my vacuum cleaner, no problem!
Thank you for watching. I'm glad this helped!
so is it ok do to this with high energy machines like a tumble drier?
Can I make the wire longer by twisting it onto another piece of wire? My current vacuum cleaner is too short
Saved my freezer and my bank balance thanks man
Glad you got it sorted 👍🏻
Brilliant video. Thank you. Saved me 180 euro

Hi just to say thanks! :) Also how do you cut the plug off in the first place?
Would this repair pass a PAT test for an industrial tool ?.
Thanks bro you saved me buying a new electric heater

It wouldn't hurt to try. But if your not comfortable you could always send it to repair and I'm sure someone else would change the plug for you
Thanks mate. Really helped me out here and saved me good money. Cheers!

Thanks for your help. Successfully changed a hairdryer plug for a friend.

Hello, what do you do if the plug has three wires? I replaced plug on a dehumidifier, and on plugging it in a second time, it sparked and tripped the sockets in my kitchen. Any advice? Thank you!
I'm assuming the 3rd wire is green and yellow? That's an earth wire so needs to go into the earth slot.
Nice one boss. New hoover not needed
Glad you sorted it 👍🏻

An utterly invaluable video this thank you so much. Just fixed my plastering mixer
Just glad to be able to help!!
Surely if it comes with a moulded plug then the hoover should have a new cable with moulded plug attached?
thank you, this was extremely useful

Awesome video.
Do you not need the Earth wire?
Alot of moulded plugs only have the live and neutral inside them
Lots of appliances have no earth. If an appliance doesn't have a conductive case, it doesn't need an earth
What CAN go wrong even if everything is done correctly?
I mean why DO people throw them away?
My washing machine cones with this plug and I'll have to do what you did so I can feed thr wire through.

I am surprise that many people in the west did not know how to replace a 3 pin plug and wire colour coding from the comment...
I think it's one of those, once you know you know
i want those prongs from old
Bit confused I broke my halogen heater plug and noticed there was no earth connected surely this ain’t safe
A lot of moulded plugs don't seem to have them for some reason
If an appliance is double insulated it's not required. Don't really know what that means but I was also curious 😅
Mine blew the fuse absolutely raging my 10 year old Henry broke and I can’t fix it
As as

If your not confident you probably shouldn't try it. This video is used as a guide. But yes it should work if you attach a new plug
