For those of you that are not sure about this Jump Starter, IT WORKS!!! I have a 2002 Ford Expedition 5.4 Eddie Bauer that the Battery completely died when this older guy stopped and gave me a jump with this exact one and this thing cranked my Big Boy Truck with no problem!!!! And the old guy gave me a 20% off coupon, didn't I go and get one!!!! Going on 2 yrs now and no let down from it, I just keep it charged up every 1 or 2 months!!!
Thank you for sacraficing a littlebit of your batterylife by letting it deepcharge again for this video! I had the same unit as you show here and I also used it for years a a powersource in my caravan! It came handy as an extra when the solarpowered battery came low in nightimes when using a lot of power for lighting and using the stereo! The internal battery is standard and after becoming tired you can easily replace it!
Thanks Jay Que. Excellent walk through with this item. I have just bought one in UK and was beginning to regret the purchase after reading some very negative feedback on Amazon. Haven't tested it yet but am now confident after seeing your video on how to use it properly and also the fact that it did the job for you. There does seem to be some difference of opinion about where to connect the black terminal and it was interesting to see you connect the earth on the car chassis rather than the battery negative terminal. I am sure this is the right way but there are a lot of videos out there demonstrating by hooking up to the negative terminal. Thanks again
These units go under different names in different stores and markets worldwide. Theres different models too from the same company. The connection hookup varies too. On mine there is no grounding the negative.
I still have this same unit that I'm charging up as I type this comment. I owned this for many years now and only used it twice. I watched this video to refresh my memory on how to operate it correctly. So thanks for the refresher.
Hi, this is a very informative video. Now I understand how these things work. I was really impressed that you used your car as the test vehicle, and proved that the battery in the car was completely drained. Habor Freight owes you! Great job.
I bought this jump-start model but never had much luck on jump starting with it. I think the clue might be in the instruction sheets on Page 6 and Step 5 for jump starting a vehicle, it says: "Turn the ignition to On-Accessory (not start) and wait a couple of minutes". This is right after you turn the jump starter switch to On in Step 4. Previously, I just turned the jump starter switch to On, waited 3 or 4 minutes and turned the car key from Off to Start. The car never started. I'll have to see if I have better luck by turning the car key to On and waiting a while.
Hey Jay, Thanks for reviewing this product. I've been meaning to get one of these but was skeptic on it's performance. Now I have seen that it will supply enough power to crank a V8. However I would like to offer a friendly word of advice. Take care not to drain your battery till it's completely dead or close to being so on purpose. Doing so kills the cells within the battery causing permanent damage. =) Take care
Thank you Jay. My husband had this same model and I didn't know how to use it. I will try it to see if it still works. I appreciate you showing me this.
The engine must crank a little, so that the booster helps to start it. It won't work on a full flat battery, but it will work on battery that still have residual energy.
I don't have on / off switch on mine - exact same unit otherwise - fully charged it up - nothing happened when I turn over engine. Not sure if it's a dud - nice video. Any ideas welcome.
These units go under different names in different stores and markets worldwide. Theres different models too from the same company. The connection hookup varies too. On mine there is no grounding the negative.
I'm glad that it worked for you, looking like a cheap jump starter. I'm going to buy one, but to be safe I'll buy a 900 amps one which cost about 100 bucks.
***** Cool. And yes the 900 amp ones (even if they're peak amps) and higher seem to be the ones to get. I bought two 900 amps ones, one with an inflator and the other without, from Harbor Freight Tools (this one in the video is also from HFT, I believe). They're almost always on sale at HFT. I just hope that they last. So far so good.
***** That's the model I got. Amazon. Read cust reviews and they say you have to connect the black to the neg terminal on battery. It wasn't working for a lot of people grounding to metal. They also say you shouldn't leave in car in cold weather, works best if kept at 68 degrees. Have used it once, will need it again tomorrow. Didn't drive far or fast enough to get the charge up better; when it's as cold as it's been you need to drive every day on a new battery; mine has had hard use due to I don't drive enough and it gets so low it won't start; sometimes I get lucky and it barely starts.
BridgetoSomewhere Well, not everyone can live in California or Florida. Mine is in the trunk all yearlong and works fine. Mine is a Cen-Tech brand from Harbor Freight Tools; I believe that yours is a JNC, though. Right?
daikaiju20 i don't know about you guys, but my jumpstart is still working great.. The only difference I've noticed is it takes a little longer to get a complete charge now.
I have one of these where u have the green where the charge is there's a little red one at the end does it need to be charged untill it gets in the red. u got red yellow green then red again does the needle need to be in the red next to the green thanks hipe u know wot I mean
Use the cigarette adapter, not to charge the jump starter but to keep 12-volts on your system while you change your battery! That way all your settings will be retained in the radio, in the computer, etc. This makes a huge difference to folks up north because if the battery is disconnected, the computer will lose all the history and will go into a 'canned' program until new starting history can be established.
Buen video, aparte la pronunciación del ingles es comprensible para aprender ingles, yo tengo la gramática pero me falta entenderlo cuando lo hablan y yo no lo hablo, soy mexicano. gracias. voy a verlos varias veces para aprender ingles.
no, you need to have the switch in the "OFF" position in order for it to charge correctly. also, thank you all for your positive comments. they are greatly appreciated
please do, and post it under a new post not as a reply to these comments. That way anyone skimming through the comments will see it in case they are wondering too
i've had that same model for about 3 years, most of the times i tried to jump my older car, it did'nt work to get it started, and i had to jump with cables from other car, but i did'nt do it right, and should of turned to "ON" and wait few minutes, then turn key to "accessories" and wait a few minutes, and then try to start it. i don't know how important it is, but it states that you need to keep it upright, cause it contains liquid or acid inside it?, but its hard to keep upright all the time ?, cause when i have it tied up in my trunk, it sometimes moves after hitting bumps and is at an angle or lying on its side, but i think its ok as long as its not leaking anything ?
Jay I have a testmark 4 in 1 jumpstart compressor and I'm wondering when I plug it in to the outlet is the power suppose to be on or off when recharging these things! Ty
Thanks Jay , im a taxi driver in Liverpool UK and the datahead (taxi radio/computer) is a huge drain on Battery , a couple of times ive lost money due to being unable to start car , if i only have to use this twice it'll have paid for itself . My taxi is a 2.0L Diesel Vauxhall Insignia Cdti , on packaging it says up to 2.0L but as it starts your massive V8 im sure it'll be fine . How the hell do you Americans be able to afford to run such big engines !!! Send me some Gas and ill send you some tea !
As an American I can tell ya they put so many restrictions on diesel engines that boosts the cost and lowers the efficiency of the engine. We can't hardly find a choice of new vehicle with a small diesel. When we do it costs a small fortune vs the gas engine. I drive a truck but I offset that by riding a motorcycle as much as possible. Cheers and put some ice in that tea lol.
The book I got with mine did say in there. Anyhow, the button needs to be in the off position when charging. the only time you switch it to on is when you're going to use the device as a power source
jackie redhead glad it worked out for you. The reason I didn't put the black cable on the battery terminal is because that's what the instructions told me to do. What I've heard is that when you put both cables onto the battery terminals, it could ignite leaking gas that comes from your battery. I guess that's why they recommend do you connect the negative cable from the jump starter to a grounding point on the vehicle like the chassis
They are very cheap quality, no doubt about that. on some instances ive read reviews where people have said they've had their's for 5 years and they still run strong. and others who say they go bad in months.. i myself made this video over 2 years ago and still have the same jumpstarter. it still holds a charge fairly well. they only thing gone bad is the little light on thefront of it, and that could just be the bulb, but since i don't use it, it doesn't bother me.
I had a similar problem with mine. ...It sat there for years and finally when I needed it it didn't work. I then charged it with a small 5w solar panel for a few days and found the voltage increased to 12.6 v. I then used my Optimate 6 smart charger on the jumper leads over night and the voltage has increased to 13.1 v. ;)
You might be able to recover the car battery using a Optimate smart charger. I use it all the time and it makes my battery last a very long time ( almost double the guarantee period. ) I also use it to charge/maintain my jump starter pack
apparently its best not to connect the black to the battery in case the battery its leaking. it can cause an explosion i guess.. I did it the way the directions said to do it.
+Mister Success I purchase the Harbor freight Centech with the 2 cigarette plugs on top and its got a powerful amp battery in it for the price , so this guys is right about once a month charge it > to full . but another added part of the jump procedure with mine
Edward Gonzales No. just connect it the way shown, turn on the jump start system, start your car, turn the jump start system off and disconnect it.. your car will charge the battery back up after its on for a little while..
I have the same Product Name HYUNDAY Electric. In chargine He did not start. Vehicle's battery is Fully Discharged. he Does not have enough power for car. My car has a regular 4-cylinder engine.
This is cheap, cheap, cheap, but it works fine under most conditions. NOTE: THE CLAMPS ARE NOT SOLDERED TO THEIR WIRES AT ALL AND THE CLAMPS WILL EASILY PULL OFF. I suggest strongly that you cut the clamp covers, pull them back, crimp the wires better and solder SOLDER the wires onto the clamps for best connection. ALSO: Take their advice and charge the unit monthly using AC cable. DO NOT charge from your car lighter. It does not give a full charge.
no, you need to have the switch in the "OFF" position in order for it to charge correctly. also, thank you all for your positive comments. they are greatly appreciated
Jay I have a testmark 4 in 1 jumpstart compressor and I'm wondering when I plug it in to the outlet is the power suppose to be on or off when recharging these things! Ty
Thanks for the explanation. I bought it and I don’t know how to operate it, but now I know, thanks
Glad it helped

thanks, i just bought a 4 in 1 jump starter. your video was of help.......best of luck, dave
Great video! I just purchased one since my old had died out. The product is very light and its amazing! Thanks!
Hi, this is a very informative video. Now I understand how these things work. I was really impressed that you used your car as the test vehicle, and proved that the battery in the car was completely drained. Habor Freight owes you! Great job.
Thanks. glad it could help you out
Thank you for your informative video! Very detailed and helpful for people like me who don't have the manual.
Thank you for making this video. Just bought this yesterday. :)
Glad it helped you out a little.

Mine looks similar but doesn't have an on/off switch only one for the compressor on the back 🤨🤨

Thank you Jay. My husband had this same model and I didn't know how to use it. I will try it to see if it still works. I appreciate you showing me this.
You're very welcome. Mine lasted a few years. Charging it once a month may have been key. Best of luck.
Thanks, by far the most useful video.
My voltmeter is completely flat… does that mean it needs a full charge and will work when charged, or does it mean it’s broken?
Which of the terminal to remove first?
The engine must crank a little, so that the booster helps to start it. It won't work on a full flat battery, but it will work on battery that still have residual energy.
Great video. Very informative, told me everything I wanted to know.
You’re a star - thanks.
Cool demo! I hope I don't need to use mine but if I do, your video will be used as my reference!

mission accomplished then. At least it helped someone out a little bit. Thanks.

no, you need to have the switch in the "OFF" position in order for it to charge correctly.
also, thank you all for your positive comments. they are greatly appreciated
My Onedoesnt have a switch Button and ITS the same
What’s the specifications of the power supply for churching this kind of jump starter?
Not quite sure.
hello how much is the voltage and amperage of the original charger
The box on the video says 400 / 900 peak
thanks man. I'll run a test and post here.
please do, and post it under a new post not as a reply to these comments. That way anyone skimming through the comments will see it in case they are wondering too

Nice video , thanks for posting it , very informative
tried it and it works! thank you ☺
i lost the adapter of this similar jumpstarter to recharge it. what volt does it require?
Jay I have a testmark 4 in 1 jumpstart compressor and I'm wondering when I plug it in to the outlet is the power suppose to be on or off when recharging these things! Ty
big help today pal, thankyou!
Thanks for your Review. Now i will buy it.

settle down, all i mentioned in this video was what was stated as far as instructions in the booklet that came with it.
I have the same kind. Do you charge it with the power switch on or off? It doesn't really say in the book.
The book I got with mine did say in there. Anyhow, the button needs to be in the off position when charging. the only time you switch it to on is when you're going to use the device as a power source
thanks. do you know steady state amp draw?
no
Hi not sure why you didn’t use black cable. And only the red but it worked. And it’s the same charger I have. So thank you
jackie redhead glad it worked out for you. The reason I didn't put the black cable on the battery terminal is because that's what the instructions told me to do. You connect it to the chassis
can u use one of these to jump start a battery while it's connected to an electrical outlet?
im not sure, but i wouldnt recomme d it
+Jay Que Hi, yes you can use it while connected to the mains, at least here in the UK.
+Juanito Alimaña Yes, I use one a lot and keep it hooked up to the mains, no problem. UK here BTW.
i dont know. but i would NEVER attempt that
i dont know. but i would NEVER attempt that
Very helpful, thank you!
I had the same one never got to use it , would not hold a charge ,when I really needed the dam thing let me down 13 months.

Slightly late to the debate by 3 years. It was a load of rubbish. Never had enough charge when I needed it. I thought maybe it was me.
As long as it works is all that matters. Hope by now you changed out that energizer battery.. its not good to run them down so much.. :)
how many amps does this output?
At 2:46 into the video it shows on the box that for this specific product/model it has a "400 amp boost rate / 900 peak amp". hope this helps.
You might be able to recover the car battery using a Optimate smart charger.
I use it all the time and it makes my battery last a very long time ( almost double the guarantee period. )
I also use it to charge/maintain my jump starter pack
you have to charge the power supply for 24 hours
why you did not connect black cable to the battery but red was connected ?
apparently its best not to connect the black to the battery in case the battery its leaking. it can cause an explosion i guess.. I did it the way the directions said to do it.
they say let it stay on for 5 minutes before you start you engine
5 minutes??? Where'd you get that from??
+Mister Success

Do I leave it on

Jay Que thanks brother I did just like you said and my car is back in business! I give your video a thumbs up too!!
Edward Gonzales thanks. glad it helped you out
Cranked my Ford Expedition from a dead start as soon as I hooked it up..
Should have bought a locking fishing tackle box and kept the key on your car key ring 😃
Great idea
thumbs up,bro..
they need to pay you for this little advertisement lol
Great video, very informative, thank you :-).
Energizer is one of the worst batteries to buy. Avoid it if you can.
Good :)

BOTH leads go to the battery posts ...why do self styled experts who know fuck all do videos about things they don't understand.?

After explaining myself that's all you could come up with. Brilliant. Idiot.
Try to organize your presentation before recording and uploading it. This stream of conscious narrative is boring.
