    I have a Mercury clone of the LSZ-1. I bought it over 15 years ago. It is very similar to early sailrite machines, except it had a capability for knee operation of lifter foot.
    I see that Sailrite has pinned some of the parts together that previously only had set screws holding them in place, and an additional set screw was added to the needle bar height adjustment.

      This video is old, the machines are better today than ever before. The Sailrite Ultrafeed is still the worlds best portable walking foot sewing machine. Thanks for your comments.

    You get what you pay for and in my opinion, no one supports their machines as well as Sailrite. The clones probably work ok, but sailrite provide a package second to none. It’s great to see a company that are serious about constantly improving their products and in particular supporting and teaching their customers. Your instructional videos are fantastic and your maintainence videos can save a user a huge amount on service and repair costs over the years. Pretty good business model, solid products and first class support. You deserve your success !

    Mine is one of the old 2004 vintage and it has never broke or missed a beat. I am sure it has not been lubed or serviced as well as it should either. i must say sailrite sewing maching is worth the price. i had the ls-1 i used it for repairs on pool covers and i pushed it to its limites... it worked great.. unfortunately it was stolen and i could not buy a new one i had to buy one of the clones. cheap ones.. it cost me 350 and i would say its a big difference on parts and quality... this aftermarket brand cant handle the work... i recommend sailrite its the best....

      Rene, Thanks for the positive comment about the Sailrite Ultrafeed sewing machine. We hear those types of comments often from other customers who buy the cheap clones and end up selling them because they don't work well. They will then spend a little more for a Sailrite Ultrafeed sewing machine and they frequently tell us it works so much better than the clone they used to own. Thanks again for sharing this fact with others!!!!

    Can anybody comment? What would cause the A024 fork link to break? Doesn't this piece just oscillate the hook? Or does it break because something gets under the machine and the fork slams it. I'm curious as to what situations to avoid.

    • @SailriteDIY
      @SailriteDIY  8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      +Rockwood Joe In the past when a needle deflection would occur that was the weakest part of the machine and it would take the full force of a jam. How does a needle deflection happen? Usually a needle bends and hits the hook or other metal part due to operator error. The error occurs when turning or twisting a fabric assembly while the needle point (not the upper shaft of needle, but point of needle) is still in fabric. This causes the needle to bend. Then the operator hits the pedal full speed (not realizing that the needle is bent) and the needle continues to bend even more on its downward travel and hits metal. Sometimes it would hit so hard that the A024 would break when the machine freezes. However, this issue has been resolved by Sailrite as that part has now been re-manufactured. We do not have that issue any longer.

    • @RockwoodJoe
      @RockwoodJoe 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks, good info to know. Instead of operator error i would use the phrase "inexperienced operators" etc. Customers never make mistakes ;)

    • @SailriteDIY

      A 110 volt machine is made for countries that have 110 volt power, like the USA. 220 volt are for countries that do not have 110 volt power but rather 220 volt (like the UK).

    I bought the cheapest available Chinese LSZ clone ~10 years ago. They all look the same. My clone quality is horrendous. It arrived with internal parts falling out and internal interference issues leaving metal shavings. Parts looked to be made by peasants pounding metal against rocks. There is no way that I could have gotten it functional, and kept it functional without Sailrite replacement parts. The defects were plainly obvious. I split one small casting just snugging up a tiny set screw, with a mini screw driver, after the part dropped out of the bottom of the machine. I would not have thought any metal to be that weak. The Sailrite replacement was polished and strong looking. I experienced lots of aggravation and failures of a type that you would not even think possible. In retrospect I would have been well ahead of the game buying the Sailrite Ultrafeed, or paying someone to do any sewing not possible on an old, metal, home sewing machine off Craigslist. All told my machine cost about half that of the Sailrite in dollars (after essential parts), weeks in lost time, and maybe 50 hours of struggling to tune and repair it. It is now passable, and useful to repair a sail and sew canvas when need arises. If I was more ambitious in my projects, I would get the genuine Sailrite. I strongly would advise staying away from a clone machine. Buy the Ultrafeed, or make do with the limitations of an old quality metal home machine from a top brand. I post this message in thanks to the Sailrite people for selling the parts and posting many repair and tuning resources applicable to all of these machines. Hopefully, my warnings will save others from making my mistake.

    • @SailriteDIY
      @SailriteDIY  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yep, the clone machines are junk. Many of our sewing machine owners have bought a clone and turned around later and bought ours. Order a Sailrite machine and you will be up and sewing right away and it will be fun instead of frustrating. I don't call this even a remotely half-ass comparison. That would be an understatement. Sailrite is comparing nothing but itself. If Sailrite wants to do a fair and honest comparison, line up the Ultrafeed with the Atlas, the Rex, and the Reliable compact industrial sewing machines and do a point-by-point material and part comparison. Then, conduct a demonstration with heavy materials (like heavy leather, Sunbrella, canvass) with all machines side-by-side.

    No doubt you have a good sewing machine but at 2:57 in the video you made a statement: In front of me we have we have a grouping of parts to showcase the radical improvement of the V2 machine. On the right we have the original parts that came off our V1's and from most of the "look a like" or I should say the higher quality look a like machines some of the one's coming certain factories in China are significantly worst than these.
    Well I was on crags list and other similar websites, I noticed a few people that are selling their V1's series machines for $600.00 plus. So are saying stay away from those V1 machines because those are just as inferior as the "look a likes"? Are you saying to these people whom bought your early V1 machines that they bought junk?
    Again this video was made almost 10 years ago and no doubt the factories in China and in Twain saw this video as I bought a look alike machine and the casting in the machine I bought are the same quality as the parts on the left. No pits, no uneven castings and a matter of fact if I didn't know any better I would claim the parts were cast in the US. The only reason I bought the machine I did because it had a 9" bed. You don't sell a portable 9" bed.
    Years ago China had to reverse engineer all of their products that were made in the US. They didn't have the research and development teams as US manufactures. But when all of the US manufactures were driven out of the US by over inflated taxes and over regulated EPA regulations, these manufactures moved to China, and bought along with them their research and development teams and the machinery.
    Today, I very seriously doubt you will find any of those low quality castings parts on the right coming from China or Twain. Now, on the other hand, the Chinese rock crushers that people are buying is another story.
    Sailrite does not have to degrade other sewing machines. With the quality of work you do and the quality of the videos that sailrite produces, that alone is the best sale promotion a company can ask for. All of your other videos promoting your machines are top notch. This video is not Sailrite, and the other video where you are promoting the posi wheel vs the friction wheel when you used another look alike machine is also not true, Sailrite also produced machines with the very same friction wheel. Why did you have to use a look alike machine? Couldn't you have use an early version Sailrite machine with a friction wheel to promote the posi wheel that way? All you would have to say is hey we came out with a 100% traction wheel. As you see with our friction wheel as in all friction wheels there is a lost of power as we will demonstrate here. But if you up grade to this posi wheel, you will have 100% of power to the machine.
    If you done the promotion that way not only is your target Sailrite machine owners but other machine owners also. But alienating other owners is not the way to go. There are reason why people can't buy your machines and just because they don't, don't alienate them because you have much more to offer them than just a machine. Again I bought mine because you don't sell a portable machine with a 9" bed.
    So please redo this video and the posi feed vs friction wheel.

      The Sailrite Ultrafeed sewing machines continue to evolve each and every year and get better and better. When we came out with the first zigzag straight stitch portable walking foot sewing machine, the LSZ-1 (invented and patented by Sailrite) it truly was a good sewing machine. But we knew we could improve it and we strive to do so each year. When the V2 first came out it was a significant jump forward in quality from the V1. We are now serving a better V3 version. Just as a cell phone from 8 years ago is not nearly as good as the new and improved versions are today, it is the same with our sewing machines, we keep improving them. It may be better for you to read a little of our history with the LSZ here: www.sailrite.com/ultrafeed-history

    • @gmcxm211
      @gmcxm211 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      First of all this was NOT a negative comment about your machines. I read your history before my first comment. I'm impressed of the struggle you had to do to get to where you are today, your dedication to your customers for the reason to stay in the fight is impressive. Again Sailrite has a good quality portable sewing machine, I'm not disputing that. But in all reality, Sailrite did not invent the sewing machine. Sailrite took existing machines, customized them and proceeded to remanufacture those. Is there one machine Sailrite sells that actually was designed from scratch I mean not using a production machine and remodifying it? I see also by reading your history you learned quickly about quality control. I was surprised when you found a manufacture to produce a version of your sewing machine you did not have a quality control member at the factory at all times. Hopefully you have one now.
      But, the issue is and still is in your video. You were quick to disclaim the "look a like" machines you also put your own V1 machines into that group. So again my question and maybe better phrased, The Sailrite Ultrafeed V1 that people are selling on the internet, are they inferior sewing machines? It wasn't until the V2 machines is where you started to take control of the manufacturing process sort of speaking according to your history report.
      So is the V1 a good machine even though it still has the old casting and old style parts? If you really listen carefully you really threw your current V1 owners under the bus. I know in the video you were showing the upgrades for the current model. But in doing so in the way you've done it, you degraded the V1 model. This is my concern is the V1 machine a good machine? Will it last for generations to come? Or is it a version where you can't use the current upgraded parts since the casting was modified and original replacement parts are no longer available?
      Because of what Singer did in the 50's or so since the machine lasted for ever, any machine that was traded in they destroyed it to prevent resale of a machine. Singer did not want the people upgrading or buying their used machines, they wanted their clientele to keep buying new machines. I hope your not going down that road with your customers whom bought the V1 version.
