My God... Nostalgia Critic is too harsh sometimes but he nailed this one. I felt like I was watching a feature-length episode of a Power Rangers / Muppets crossover. I want that 90 minutes of my life back!
I understand how Stine has to be so careful around enchanted books now, because of what happened when he was in high school. Slip even is wearing glasses at the end similar to Stine's own glasses in the Goosebumps movie, that is definitely R.L Stine as a teenager.
Ok but the ending with the kids reuniting with their parents is actually kinda touching Why couldn’t the rest of the movie be this good? And the fact that they replaced the classic never ending story song with that bag of nails worthy Steppenwolf cover

I watched this when I was 13 or 14? Haven’t seen it since. But 90s movies were trying to confuse the hell out of my social development. Because this movie made perfect sense to me as 13 year old. As an adult I have so many questions !!!!Also why am I attracted to a man with a unibrow😭 so many questions.
That's a good point. I guess out of all the people in the world, he never knew he would see Bastian again since Bastian is the only one in the world who loves "The Neverending Story" book so with others, Mr. Koreander can tell them not to read it but, Bastian wouldn't listen and he would just go ahead and read it. (If he knew Bastian would be attending that High School, maybe he would have locked the book away in a safe).
I always felt that near the end when everyone gets wished back that bastion doesn’t close his eyes and wish with them it’s because they’re some of his oldest friends and despite what he says he doesn’t really want them to leave. When Nicole looks at him she sees this and that’s why she closes her eyes and wishes, because she knows it’s the right thing to do but it’s too hard for him to do
@Jack Brown 00:04:06 - Bastian: Oh No. Look, Kenji. You took my story to the future. All the stuff’s already happened. Yuji: I know. But look what happened.
He saw the script and headed for the hills. Seriously, I think that what with having a whole new (and noncanonical) character in Nicole and having to develop her as a character, they just didn't have room for him. Daft, but there ya go.
This should be in a watchmojo category called: Top 10 Bad movies with Good performances (Jack Black). He seems to be the only one here who knows what he's doing.
When I first saw this movie, I thought it looked funny at the end seeing "The Nasties" so nice and friendly when seeing Bastian without being dressed like a scary enemy like they were for the whole movie, especially when Bastian told them that they should get to class so they wouldn't be late which they agreed nicely.

Hippety Hopper: Wait! Take me with you please!
Yes that would be great. That is, as long as Mr. Koreander lets Bastian take "The Neverending Story" book out of his library again since he told Bastian in the beginning of the movie that "The Neverending Story" book is now a reference book and that it should never be taken out of the library. Or, as long as Mr. Koreander lets Bastian read the book in his library. (Bastian would have to get the book for a fourth film since he handed the book back to Mr. Koreander at the end of the movie).
Well i hear leonardo dicaprio is involved in a remake of the series. I could see johnny depp in a remake. I hope they find somebody as beautiful as melody kay in the remake
If all of the sequles are going to be as bad as this on is, I hope that this is the ending of the story. It looks like a jim henson move that went south and never made a rebound. THIS MOVIE SUCKED SO BAD. Even for a direct to video movie.
This movie is more like a teen drama, it's good at that but is so far detached from the original. The first movie had heart and could appeal to a more adult audience. And what happened to the characters? Falcor went from being an optimistic luck dragon full of encouradgement, to complaining about his back and sounding doubtful. The empress doesn't seem as knowladgeable as she was in the first, and talks about wanting to go shopping, and nothing about the movie is very deep and meaningfull like the original. The musical score in the first was amazing too, which this movie lacked as well. The contrast and feel of this movie compared to the first is like night and day. So yea, It's not bad if your expecting a teen drama, but doesn't feel anything like the first movie.
+mikenet2006 Yep the plot focused way too much on the happenings in the human world, and the characters from Fantasia are totally wasted. Especially the gnomes, who remain trapped in a FedEx box for the rest of the film and in great need to relieve themselves. And Rock Biter Junior, whose disappearance caused his parents to become estranged.

@spac3R210 Mostly it's for the second film to be careful when you wish using the Auryn for Bastian because the evil sorceress Xayide connected the Auryn to his brain where every time he made a wish he would lose a memory.

I just don't understand why there where critics giving this movie negative reviews to me the move was a most spirited & wonderful performance & it still is.
I actually enjoyed this film; there are a few more elements from the book brought in-- the Old Man of Wandering Mountain, for one-- even though it's pretty much an entirely original story. My only problem was that they turned Falkor into a whingeing coward. Massive letdown.
2:17 That isn't even a karate punch- they teach you to punch straight in karate. And why wait until the very end before wishing for the bullies to be friendly, that should have been the very first thing he did with it.

I know that not many people liked this film too much, especially since someone mentioned that this film is kind of like teasing the storybook characters which "The Nasties" did. However, I wonder if they made a fourth film it can be called "The Neverending Story 4: The Return Of Gmork And Xayide" where they become real from the book with Gmork getting revenge on Atreyu and Xayide getting revenge on Bastian and so Bastian and Atreyu had to come up with a plan to kill both of them again.
This is my first time seeing this movie. Here is my assessment. At first I thought it wasn't that bad, until it got going. It is awful. The plot makes no sense whatsoever, and seems to be making itself up as it goes along. The rules of both worlds and how the book effects them also makes no sense. How on earth can Sabastian use the book to reform delinquents? That sort of thing oversimplifies human behaviour. Also, the message of the story is unclear. Are they trying to say that bad behaviour only comes from lack of reading and that all readers are kind? - that makes no sense. As bad as Falcor was I was at least prepared for it because of the trailer. But wow, I was not prepared for the Rockdust family. Could they have written a more annoying character than that rock baby and his mother? And the empress! What did they do to her? She is supposed to be nice and childlike but she is an arrogant snob here. And for crying out loud, what was with all the pop culture references from the tree? How would he know about Kmart? And why did Sebastion's hair suddenly lose it's spikes at the beginning? How did the sister suddenly understand everything that was going on, like the Nasties having power? That being said, there are a few redeeming qualities. The children's acting for the most part was well done for the most part, at least when the script made some sense. Jack Black and his whole gain did a great job. They actually took the part quite seriously. The parents were good at times and bad at others. It was almost like they didn't know what to do with them. Anyway. In conclusion, at least the actors tried their best with what they were given. But who ever wrote this garbage should go to Confession and do penance. It just seemed like three writers came up with separate ideas, tried to smudge them altogether, and didn't even edit it. It was a bad and terrible film. But I'm glad I watched it.
Artex was back on the second film so Attreyu couldn't of decided to sink in the "Swamp Of Sadness" out of sadness that Artex died. (Maybe the person who audtioned for Attreyu needed to quit or nobody audtioned for the role of Attreyu so the director had to adjust the script to get Attreyu's lines out).
Melody Kay, who played Nichole, was such a cutie pie. She is still beautiful today.
Even though this dosen't hold a candle to the first one, I just love that final silhouette shot of the high five. It very beautiful.
So this is how Jack Black ended up in Goosebumps movie, he came all the way from a bully to a writer/teacher
Me and my sister loved this when we were little especially the end where they walk down the hall and do the high five everytime it came to that part we always used to do the high five such good memories

Why did jack black never played any order villains he would been great at it who else thinks so
Artex was back on the second film so Attreyu couldn't of decided to sink in the "Swamp Of Sadness" out of sadness that Artex died. (Maybe the person who audtioned for Attreyu needed to quit or nobody audtioned for the role of Attreyu so the director had to adjust the script to get Attreyu's lines out).
