- Jean Sibelius' Second Symphony is considered a musical manifesto against the Russian occupation of Finland and is also often referred to as the "Symphony of Independence".
With its simple three-note motif, which runs organically throughout the work and spills out in the radiant finale, it vividly represents Sibelius's ability to create great things from minimal motivic material. Kazuki Yamada leads the Stavanger Symphony Orchestra.

Very nice rendition of what I consider Sibelius' most heartfelt symphony and certainly my favourite of his.
I couldn't resist checking this out since my mother's parents emigrated from Stavanger at the end of the nineteenth century. I've been exploring symphonic offerings from Norway and am already a huge fan of the Oslo Philharmonic Orchestra and the Norwegian Chamber Orchestra. I've also enjoyed offerings from the Bergen Philharmonic Orchestra. I've become a fan of Sibelius along the way as well.. This is an excellent performance with really outstanding video production quality. I think I'll come back for more. This group certainly deserves more than 1.6 thousand views in five months. I would say that I've come to appreciate this symphony at a bit quicker pace after listening to Paavo Jarvi conducting the Orchestre du Paris. This feels closer to Leif Segerstam with the Turku Philharmonic Orchestra.
very good!!!
Thank you very much for the nice feedback!
