  • This filmmaker turned gamemaker is the writer and director of the critically acclaimed video games A Way Out and Brothers - A Tale of Two Sons.He is wild and unpredictable with a mission to push the creative boundaries of how games are played and perceived.
    As a young film director Josef came on to the Nordic film scene with a boom in 2000, with his first feature Jalla! Jalla!, he has since directed six feature films. Josef capitalizes on his feature film experiences to bring great visual and emotional storytelling to the world of video games. The core of any Hazelight game will always be a great story!
    In 2011 Josef partnered up with Starbreeze to create his first video game, Brothers - A tale of two sons. After finishing Brothers he founded his own studio Hazelight in 2014 and set out to bring split screen couch co-op back into our gaming lives. This was considered to be a huge gamble and when he introduced the friend pass (Allowing a friend to play the full game online for free), many would think that he was crazy, but A Way Out proved to be a huge success with 1 million copies sold in just two weeks.
    Josef has a contagious passion for video games that can’t be missed and has already become an internet phenomenon.

    It’s crazy hearing him talking about his “upcoming project” knowing that 3 years in the future that game he’s talking about just won Game of the Year.

    Josef is honestly one of the most inspirational and real people in the industry, he isn't afraid to say what he truly believes, and hes very positive and confident, he doesn't let the world around him ruin his art and passion, i think in the games industry its easy to see people who are afraid to break the mold

    "The oscars should fuck themselves up." I like this dude. He is a creative, passionate man that really believes in his ideas. He is willing to take some risk and be dynamic. A true visionary and idealist. I think game length and replay value can be good, but not WHEN sacrificing a lot of quality. I like big games like Skyrim and shorter ones like Metal Gear Solid 3.

    Good lord this guy is a breath of fresh air.
    As much as I love BotW for its absolute creative freedom, I would've loved for it to have been shorter in terms of time.
    Some parts simply become a repetitive grind which is a means of progression; not something I enjoy honestly apart from time pass.
    The sandbox aspect is cool and the fact you can approach the same thing in so many different ways is awesome.
    I agree with pretty much everything he said.
    Almost feels like an actual rational human went in there to speak stuff. Just makes sense.
    He might be a bit too energetic and have trouble controlling it in terms of expression, but you can tell this is a passionate and genuine guy who truly believes in delivering experiences.

    I agreed with everything Josef said except when he mentioned that you can make a game like Dark Souls difficult because the story doesn’t really matter. There is so much intricate lore crafted into that game that it’s mind blowing. Josef should play it, I’m sure he would appreciate the nuaced storytelling!

    • @nizunia864
      @nizunia864 9 หลายเดือนก่อน

      A bit late but, I think he means more about the pacing of the story. For example if you would play a Naughty Dog game, which is heavily story based, the pacing of the story is essential to the experience. It wouldnt make sense to die to a boss 1000 times, since that would halt the pacing and the story. In fromsoft games the story definitely exists, and its so intricately crafted in to the world, as you said, but its not pacing based, its not a movie type experience. Thats what he means when he says the story doesnt really matter. Theoretically you could play all fromsoft games and not pay any mind to the story or world building and still have a great experience, cause thats how the game is designed, but thats not possible for The Last of Us or A Way Out
