Finally caught my first frog fish last summer , 5lbs 10oz, was so excited that when I set the hook I pulled a muscle in my arm , bent my reel handle and fell down in the boat lol
I love fishing toads, I've had great luck with them, especially when I am trying to locate fish over a big area. From my experiences, when the bass aren't hitting the frog good I start thowing a toad and most of the time the end up destroying it and blowing it out of the water. Keep up the great work!
One of the things I like about the Toad, is that it more closely mimics the natural swimming motion of a frog, I especially like dragging them over pads and dropping into openings.
Good Evening BassFishingHQ I truly ENJOY your content of the Frog vs. the Toad! LOL! :-) I also shared a common expirence with my son. We went fishing for small mouth bass and found our selves fishing and changed from crankbaits to TOADS! WOW!!! "WE JUST TOTALLY SLIED 'EM!" I TOLD MY SON TO CAST BY A LOG NEAR THE SHORE And HOP it the log. Well with no further ado he sent the TOAD unto the log! I told him to wait a another minute! Then WHAM! Down went "DA TOAD!" :-) WE Were So EXCITIED! LOL! (He had DA 7 lb. on 6lb. Line WTF!) WE relish the one of the menenny meniories we shared toghether. Thank you for Bring Such A HEARTFELT MEMORY BACK into my LIFE! :-) MAY "GOD BLESS U ALL!" SINCERELY, Mr. CARL J. Gwizdala. :-)
Wow! Informative and inspiring ❗️ One of those times when it’s so good you have to listen twice and stop once in awhile and “Hey! I never thot of that or I gotta “noodle” that for a minute. Thanks for that. That’s the sign of a GOOD teacher, right there!
The toad is my favorite Florida bait along with the fluke. I’ve been using the googan toad because it has the best appendages and design, but for durability reasons I think I’ll keep a few packs of zoom or strike king toads with me. Definitely a versatile bait since it’s like a mix of a buzz bait and a frog
No rigging tip? Toads are notoriously hard to keep from turning upside down after the cast. I’ve tried a bunch of different hooks and toads and haven’t completely figured out how to avoid this problem. Would love to see how you rig em. But I agree with you-sometimes I get bit on a road when they ignore the frog. Plus you can get away with not fishing a frog rod and just use an all-around MH in anything up to moderate cover.
Year before last my local lake got on a toad kick, and for months they would hit a toad over anything else, I barely even had to put one down. Best few months of fishing I’ve ever had
When you say toad you mean a heavier than water bait that you can't stop (hence you cover a lot of water), but now there are floating toads that you can fish at any speed.
I fish butler chain all the time. Sooooo clear. 25 ft clarity on a sunny day. I always tell my teenager, if I'm making twice the number of casts he is, I'll always catch more fish.
I join the party late but last yr while at my Walmart I seen that they had these little packs of strike king they had all the ned baits from them but one of them was the strike king Toads so I picked them up and last season I didn't catch not one fish with a hollow body frog they all came on a toad or some type of walking bait
Sup, great video as usual. I save the double hook from my frog when they get destroyed lol, found some craw type baits that work well with them, I have a replacement toad that I use on a buzz toad, the double hooks kinda works, but when found toads that have paddle tail feet like one you were holding and double hook don't work with them, I tried an e.g. 3/0 hook and Texas rigged worked great in open waters and flipping in some grass but not pads? So I used a regular worm hook size 3 rigged like Texas rig and found huge difference all around. I never knew hook choice could make such a difference on some baits. Ty tc
Did I see you on lake Apopka Wednesday? I didn't want to be a creeper but I was about to yell at ya lol. If it was you, I got to watch you catch one so that was pretty cool lol. I'll be fishing my first tournament tomorrow on Apk
Oh, another 'green screen in the garage' episode. Lol, just kidding. Although I sometimes did wonder about that, the tan on your face sorta gives the truth away.
Try the ZMan billy goat. I've used the horny toad for years but this Billy goat is a game changer because you can stop it and it'll float even with a 4/0 or 5/0 EWG
Great job Tyler. My question is can you do a video on the zoom horny toad an the property way to rig it. Hook style, size. I’ve been using them the last few years but when I’m retrieving it the toad wants to spin or roll and I can’t figure out why and what I’m doin wrong. Any help would be helpful from you or any of your great viewers. Thanks for your time. 🤞
Yup a big downside to these things. One trick: rig em so that that they are sitting slightly concave on the hook. Kind of like a boat hull in the water. But I haven’t solved this 100% yet. Worse for some hooks and toads than others….
I've never worried about the roll-over. hasn't hurt my hook ups. first: use braid. second: I prefer the mustad megabite 5/0 hook. run the point into the head, bring it out just inside the slot...turn it around and put the bend of the hook 'between the legs'. skin hook. add a smooth GLASS bead on the line ahead of the toad. sheds weeds/grass like crazy. and I think it helps move the hook inside the fish mouth. sounds crazy. most folks will tell you to use a screw-lock, keel-weighted hook. you can do that too.
I hate fishing with frogs, even tougth they are quite popular in my country for catching wolf fis (Hoplias spp.), the hook set ratio with frogs is just awful Maybe I should just give more attention to fishing with toads
Dang straight! Top toad strikes are my JAM!

Just watched the Tactical Bassin toad video... yours is way more helpful and informative. Thanks my man

Very nice Tyler have alot of pads in the ponds I fish so great info! Thanks sir!
This is very convincing. Thank you for the info and I will try the toad fishing.

Good advice. Thanks

Good info as always thanks for the vid
Great video. Good food for thought.
I saw where ZMan is coming out with a toad that floats. Sounds pretty interesting
Ribbit toads r much better than horny toads. Better feet sound and great coliors. Also use a double hook to insure a fish about everytime!

That was me! You should have come over and said hi I would have gladly talked to you!
No way! Gonna beat myself up over this one lol
Tyler, i am a bank angler. Would you do the same from the bank as well as from the boat?
How do you rig the toad (type of hook and size) and which brands (Z-Man)?
Do you Texas rig them or does it vary? I didn't think I heard you mention it in the video.
I agree I catch much more fish with a horny toad that the top water frog. One of my most used baits
Wow never knew that
So how is it rigged ?
Just picked up a few packs of these. Anyone try them as a buzzbait trailer?
Getting that Florida bite!! Love it!!

Same thing happens to me.
Thanks I don’t feel so bad. Help me figure it out. Lol

Florida is different, for me its toads to find and frogs to catch. New lakes.
Thanks Ty couldn't you fish that frog faster for a reaction strike?
That is basically a big craw
👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍
pancakes can be better than waffles

Hi
I’ve seen this on MLF and now your channel. How is it rigged?
