Gohan was always a great character, the issue is that when he’s not fighting he’s not on screen. Dragon Ball is primarily about battles and doesn’t focus on down to earth character moments a lot unless it’s important to plot or is filler. The reason why people think Gohan is the best in the Cell Saga and Ultimate Gohan in the Buu Saga is because that’s when he was allowed to be on screen as the main guy there. It’s why my favorite Gohan has gotta be Great Saiyaman Arc Gohan, we get to see our boy for who he really is. A total lovable dork who wants what’s best for everybody yet doesn’t want the credit for saving them. It’s crazy that people compare Goku and Superman so much when Gohan is much more of the Superman archetype to me, and this is coming from someone who loves Superman as well.
Well to be fair people tend to compare Goku to Superman because of Funimation's dub changes pre Dragon Ball Kai. And Dragon Ball minus doesn't really help things when it literally turned Bardock into Jor El.
Based! Great Saiyaman is PEAK Gohan. Part of me wishes we could expand on that stuff again. Its truly Gohan in his element. And I agree. Gohan is very much way more of the traditional superhero type and always has been!
Small correction. Dragon Ball Z is all about fighting and has little else going on. Dragon Ball proper is all about an adventure and has plenty of down to earth moments involving other characters. Which is why many consider the original superior to Z.
40:00 the distraction wasn’t what won Gohan the battle. The whole point of that final beam struggle was to show the internal struggle Gohan has with himself and his lack of courage. Even with half his strength, Gohan was still stronger than Cell. But the fact that he screwed up, he was majorly humbled and lost all belief in himself to push himself. That’s an issue he’s had since the start of the DBZ. It wasn’t until he saw all of friends, including Vegeta of all people, jump in showing they believed in him, that he found the strength and courage to release the strength he didn’t think he had. The panel was to show that even someone like Vegeta believes in him to everyone’s surprise. It’s actually the most beautiful scene in the entire series if not all anime imo
8:28 Gohan hiding from Buutenks was not cowardice. Not in the manga anyway. He hid for lke one panel in the managa then tried to attack Buu and continued the fight. He was only trying to delay Buutenks because he was aware of the time limits. He was playing it smart, like Goku trying to play it smart against Frieza by hiding under water. Gohan was actually doing a pretty good job of holding on. Even breaking free from Buutenks Galactic Donut and dodging the Kamehameha. Gohan lasted almost the full 30 mins before Dende had to heal Gohan, and Gohan was instantly ready to face up to Buu once again. Then Goku showed up and gave Buu the means and the distraction to absorb Gohan. 12:38 Gohan did learn from the Cell games. He wasn't messing around like everyone always claims he was. Maybe he was in the anime it's portrayed as if he was, but not in the manga. Manga Gohan turned up, landed 6 hits on Buu in a matter of seconds, and then Buu blew himself up. When Buu returned Gohan said he was going to finish it this time and for others (Goten, Trunks, and Piccolo) to stay out of it. But despite Gohan's best efforts, Buu goaded Goten and Trunks into fusing. None of this was Gohan messing around or messing up. Gohan was literally ready to get things done.
The Buu Saga is the one I am the LEAST knowledgable about, and hearing that Goku's arrival was a big reason for Gohan getting distracted is really something. It's not something i'd think about but i guess it makes sense. Lets say Gohan lasts and Buu reverts - he'd still be very beaten up. Will he be able to finish the job from there, or will the extra strength and knowledge from Piccolo + base Trunks & Goten be too much? I can see a "real" battle, but he'd still need help in terms of power output at the end
@@theinktician Dende fully healed Gohan when Buutenks only had a few minutes left on the fusion. Goku arrived, cut Buutenks in half (also cutting off his antenna thing), and threw a potara at Gohan. Gohan was stil shocked that Goku had shown up at this point and didn't catch the potara. While Gohan was looking for the potara, Buutenks fusion wore off, and Buu put his two halves back together, but not the antenna. Goku laughed and said they didn't need potara fusion and that Buu was weak enough Gohan could beat him on his own. Gohan found the potara and then Buu used his antenna on Gohan. Gohan knew of Buu's ability to absorb people as he literally watched it happen to Piccolo and the boys. He would've been more cautious about it, but Goku showing up out of no where, causing a scene, and cutting Buu up, not only distracted Gohan from Buu, but gave Buu the opportunity (cutting of the antenna) to get a sneak absorbtion on Gohan.
I like this take. If only because it feels so appropriate that Gohan, having no enthusiasm for this world ending stakes BS, gets completely sandbagged for trying to take initiative to stop the threat as soon as possible, its like Android 17 getting lectured in super for interrupting that magical girl transformation sequence. _Nooooo Gohan, you're not allowed to have agency in the plot until the villain has become as physically strong as the writer deems possible, IDIOT, now go sit on the bench with the rest of the Z-warriors, its GOKU time._ Goku: Hey Buu! wanna senzu bean?? _See? Goku understands, get with the program Gohan._
I mean Gohan still gave the kids his blessing to fight buu. If he had taken it seriously and told the kids to let him handle it none of them would have been absorbed.
@@RedMoonLoop He did take it seriously. Told the kids to stay out of it. Told Buu "No, your fight is with me. I'm your opponenet, not them". Nobody listened to him and he reluctantly just accepted it. Then they instantly got absorbed. If anyone is to blame here it's Goten and Trunks.
I really wish they would showcase Gohan's scholar side more to make him relevant without forcing him to fight. Like, they could feature him providing info to the fighters about theoretical ki techniques based on some of his research or being the strategist for some fights, or they could show him helping Bulma more on the science-support side.
He’d actually needed to have done any research to give any 😂 I mean yeah in the online game it’s stated Gohan eventually taught and explained the fundamentals of ki which was why there was a huge increase in students etc. but unfortunately all we ever see is Gohan struggling to find a position or looking at ants.
Beast Gohan means nothing to me and neither do any of of dbs forms, ego vegeta, golden/black frieza, orange piccolo, and ultra instict are just soulless cash grab transformations. With that being said my favorite Gohan is buu saga Gohan seeing him train with his little brother and teach video how to fly while being a hero on the side. A perfectly balanced and down to earth character
I've always considered Gohan's Ultimate form to be a second base form for Gohan. it's started in both the anime and manga by Old Kai that Gohan wouldn't need to go Super Sayin anymore. Not that he couldn't. I believe that it was the groundwork for SS God/Blue for Goku and Vegeta, and for Beast. With Ultimate acting as a new base form, he would still have to train to achieve something higher, or have some kind of trigger for an ascension. And it was mentioned in the video that Gohan was blazing his own path as a warrior, which could have led toward Beast as it doesn't follow the standard Sayian transformations. Though I'm not happy at all that Beast just ripped of SS2, I was happy to see Gohan get some love. It's just a shame that the community shits on him as much as it does. I love Gohan, his passive nature, his growth as a human and a warrior. His decisions to follow his scholarly path while juggling to protect those around him. And his devotion to his family, including Piccolo.
Yesterday I forgot to say who is my favorite Gohan version- Namek Gohan. Because Namek Gohan made a transition from dependable to badass. The way he savagely attacked 2nd form Freeza always impressed me and I love to re-watch it.
Telling from the title I thought this video would be more of a criticism. After watching in its entirety it feels more like a love letter to the character. Glad you made it, Gohan is my favorite character and it always makes me sad when people just complain about him.
I like Gohan as a character, but I never liked his "just born more talented than everyone" angle, especially later when he's far from the only half-human yet continues to be shilled as the only one with real talent (despite others achieving higher powers at younger ages than he did without really trying)
I think it would’ve helped Gohan’s character so much if Goku (in like the cell saga) showed him not be as much as a fighter, but more of a protecter. He has that as motivation later on, but I think if he found that true motivation earlier, he would’ve kept together so much better.
34:12 "if an individual has fear of an other individual" What? No... that's not what courage is. Courage is being able to do things OVER fear. It doesn't mean the person does not have fear. That would be "fearless". Courage is when you can do things despite fear, risks, danger... it doesn't mean you have fear neither, but you can have courage while having fear too. And most often, if you fight danger while you are scared, you have courage. Courage is your ability to tackle on danger regardless of the fear it may provoke.
I really like the part in the Goku black arc where future Trunks sees Gohan with a family and gets the reassurance that he did the right thing going back in time during the android saga to let there be an alternate universe where things are better for everyone and seeing Gohan who he only knew as a fighter happy and enjoying the peace that he worked so hard for then choosing not to burden Gohan with his future problems but also receiving exactly what he needed emotionally at that time from the only character he could have given him that, it really put a smile on my face and for the first time I actually thought that it was a good reason to exclude Gohan from the fighting.
The real logical extent of what gohan should’ve been was future gohan. I used to think cell games gohan was his best but he wasn’t the same gohan he was on namek. His turn to pacifism came out of nowhere. Being forced into fighting at an early age would make someone hate fighting but he should’ve realized what 16 said long before the cell games, “there are those that words alone cannot reach.” Him becoming sadistic was needed for the story in some ways but namek gohan would’ve finished off cell in an instant BECAUSE he hates fighting and he got angry at nappa and frieza because he knew that they were pure evil. Goku’s mercy and vegeta’s arrogance were seen as saiyan weaknesses and gohan was supposed to be above that. Trunks should’ve stepped in to make gohan take the fight with cell seriously and him just standing there while gohan was toying with cell made me have less respect for trunks. Trunks would’ve died but he ended up dying anyway and his death by cell felt unimpactful. Trunks would’ve been the perfect character to give gohan a swift kick in the @$$ because he knew better than anyone else that you have to terminate the threat while you can instead of messing around like gohan did with cell after he transformed.
which gohan is the best - GT gohan then saiyan saga gohan beating his fear and fighting then sell games gohan right when he passes out after cell is destroyed there top 3 in proper order
So, when it comes to Ultimate Gohan I've always seen it as Gohan's true base form if he keeps up his training. It's his potential unlocked. So, yes, he could stack super saiyan on it. Now the question is... Is beast form basically his ultimate/unlocked potential's version of a super saiyan or... Is it truly just completely separate with Ultimate still being his true base form Edit: I just got further in the video and scholar said somewhat the same as me. With ultimate being Gohan's true base form while Beast Gohan is like his boost (like super saiyan and rage boost)
I love when Gohan is being a nerd, the great saiyaman filler arc in the anime and the days leading up to the tournament were some of my favorite Gohan moments. I really hate the perception "fans" have of Gohan. He is not a fighter, their favorite Gohan, Cell Games Gohan, his arc there was all about how he hates fighting and didn't wanr to do this. Despite that these "Gohan fans" seem to ignore this cuz they loved when Gohan got mad and blinded by rage. Due to these sentiments most people have I'm not even sure if I am a fan of Gohan or not anymore, I love the aspects that the vocal crowd hate yet I hate the aspects that vocal crowd love. Super Hero showed me that Gohan is never allowed to grow past his Cell Saga self in this modern era as they just repeated the same arc. GT Gohan is the goat, it makes me really happy how they realized who Gohan was and kept him as a scholer, yet they also balanced it by letting him keep up his training and maintaining his strength. Also just cuz I wanna point this out, in GT Gohan is an active father in Pan's life, while in Super Gohan is so dedicated to his studies that he doesn't even go to pick Pan up from School, Piccolo also points out how common this is with his stuffed animal collection, possibly indicating that GT Gohan is a goated dad when conpared to his Super counterpart. A more complete Gohan is a better Gohan Thank you for reading, means more than you may think to me that even one person would listen to my insane opinions
For a guy that hates fighting he was sure willing to keep fighting if it meant protecting his friends. You can still be a fighter or train Or whichever and still want peace. He didn’t need to think of it as a “wanting to test his limits” like Goku but as a safety insurance if he NEEDED to save someone. As someone stated. The dragon ball world has frequent threats. He doesn’t need to fight the entire time but that doesn’t mean he has to get all soft either :0 gohan as a great saiyaman would have thrived better in a spin off. But that would’ve just meant extra work for Toriyama who got like 20min of sleep over like a week or five.
It’s only controversial because people won’t let that Z version of bro go like his character development and new form now is amazing ! Because remember they tried to make him the main character and everybody bitched about Goku being gone
To help on the Dabura fight: Gohan needed the Senzubean after their fight Dabura was all up and ready to party all night after their fight. You offered Dabura a senzubean? He'd be like "what? regain energy? don't need it"
Has anyone ever explained what Gohan being a "scholar" actually means? Like, is he a college professor, a scientist, a computer expert, or something else? What is his actual job title 🤷♂
I think gohan is one of the coolest characters in fiction period. Yeah the looks and his fights are very good i also think that, but that is not what makes his character for me anyways. Gohan doenst like hurting anyone, gohan is loyal, gohan is innocent, gohan is friendly, gohan loves his friends, gohan would give his life if that means that his friends would live in peace. Gohan is not a fighter if he doesnt needs to be one, but he protects everyone like a beast when he's needed. That is what gohan makes the best gohan for me. His golden pure heart. We all know the thoughness and brutal strength is cool as f#ck. But everyone loves a pure hearted character. Innocence and bravery balances out our gohan and this also counts for goku
i don't want any character's transformations to be replaced with a normal human looking form to be more "relatable" when the character already has personality and emotions. That was an issue Ben 10,000 ultimate alien brought about, when the character's entire power is transforming into numerous different creatures. So glad they stopped that idea. And now many years later, even though I don't like the length of Beast Gohan's hair, I can appreciate that Beast has removed that stigma that Gohan can't find a new power with a new form. One of the coolest things about Gohan, is the fact he is a hybrid. A saiyan and a human. Despite his distastes for his saiyan nature over the years, out of all the hybrids , Gohan is biologically the most saiyan out of all of them. How many saiyan hybrids have become the saiyan ape, or even had a tail? His "potential" is always teased throughout the franchise, so ultimately I still want to see that potential reach its best. Not forgotten about forever like what they did for the entirety of the Buu saga and beyond. No I want to see Gohan proudly reach a point where he can say "I am a saiyan raised on earth." With fighting skills that make his dad proud, because he has learned not just from him but everyone on the dragon team.
I wouldn't call Gohan controversial. It's more that his so called fans don't understand his character and won't ever let go Gohan's best achievement at age 9. (Yes fanboys he was 9 not 11.)
He was between ten or eleven physically. The Cell Games(May 26, Age 767) happens just a few days after his birthday(May 18, Age 757) making him ten chronologically but the training in the HTC could add an additional year even though it was incomplete
@@123GOHANZ Yeah you can count the "year" in the Time Chamber if you really wanted to argue, but I typically don't as the Time Chamber runs on its own rules and is it's own dimension. But even the Manga specifically says Gohan is 16 after the 7 year Time skip and 16-7 will always equal 9 no matter how you slice it.
Killing cell isn't his best achievement, Finding the right balance between his professional, personal and warrior life at the end of DBS SH is his best achievement which even both Goku and Vegeta can't do.. anyway all this development can go straight to the drain in very next arc since the writers don't care
@@Drums_of_Liberation That’s because the Great Saiyaman arc and Buu all happened before his birthday. Gohan was sixteen but it has been seven years since it took take place Age 774. Perhaps study up on the timeline before making blatantly wrong statements and touting it as true Time is relative. It’s why I made the distinction of Gohan’s physical age and calendar age being different
I thought to myself when the video started- I am not going to watch the whole thing straight I'll save some for tomorrow. There is no tomorrow I watched the whole God damn video and it's a freaking good one. I am a little more than a casual fan but still not like manga readers and I will explain what do I mean. I watch the anime primarily but I also make a research on what happened in the manga for a better understanding. I do power scaling so it's important for me to do it right. Not long ago in a video of Qaaman I had to estimate Future Trunk's BP based on the manga (he gave me homework). That was the 1st ever manga I read in my life and I might continue with going into the manga more because it's different and fun.
When Gohan was in the Hyperbolic Time Chamber with his long hair, I believe that he was at his best. Goku noticed that he was in a super saiyan state but his transformation wasn't sticking. Goku karate chopping his hair off was a sign of doubt from Goku and this was a sort of golf handicap. If he wouldve let him go ss without the haircut, we may have seen a Broly-like potential. Idk, that scene just always bothered me.
Excusing Chi-Chi's controlling behaviour, yikes. In Cell saga she gave on trying to have her little scientist listening to her, and literally said to Goku to have another kid ("do some house work", which we see later on what meant) because she wants a toy. I guess it's easy to excuse if your mother has a working brain.
BEFORE WATCHING - i just want to say: I am certain that what fans see as Gohan's best moment, is likely what Gohan sees as his WORST moment. We think about the cool part (i am guilty), but if you eperience the Cell Saga through Gohan's lens, all you'll remember was what that part of your life took from you, and the big mistake you made.
In the Dragon Ball Heroes/Xenoverse world Gohan writes a book on Ki. If the writers just wanted Gohan to be a Scholar then they wouldn't get him involved at all. Yet they keep bringing him back to fight and he's constantly stuck in limbo, he's mentally in his adolescent years and never develops from there as a character. Gohan acknowledges numerous times that because he never trains he lets people down. The idea that fans just want him to be another Goku is a strawman argument, people like Gohan because he leads a double life as a successful scholar and a warrior, unlike Goku who only ever obsesses about fighting.
You know as a kid I wanted Gohan to be this and that but as an adult I learn to be happy what Gohan chooses to be. Trust me seeing how future gohan had to struggle for years and in heroes future gohan loses trunks and bulma I can't help but want nothing but happiness for him. But....I would like him to another main villain again thats not Cell...
Honestly my favorite form is mystic as that's where the cast should have kept going like in dbs where Goku has a lot more non super Saiyan fights than in dbz post namek. Mystic was that but better as Gohan could and does get much stronger if he kept working at it instead of stopping everytime It does feel unearned while ss2 was earned as we saw where his rage landed him since his toddler days
If we are talking best without being the strongest, I would say Freeza arc. There were a lot of unknowns of how strong Gohan really was after the Saiyan arc and if he could fight the whole Freeza force. (Not to mention being very young.) Gohan's character took a back seat at every point after that besides fighting Cell. (This was treated more of a surprise since everyone was focused more on Vegeta, Goku, and future Trunks which is why its not the best but SSJ2 scenes were cool.) There was the whole ultimate gohan thing but it really didnt make much of a difference seeing the end result and how much focus on it was put in. I don't remember much of the Buu arc tbh. Im unsure if Ultimate Gohan was stronger than SSJ3 Goku. Either way, he sort of just obtained the power instead of training for it, and the end result he was treated more as a distraction. Beast Gohan feels more like recycled content of a modern day Cell fight and doesn't have much impact on me personally. (Again, bias opinion there. I don't hate super, btw its just that they could've done anything but chose a Cell clone for toys.)
Your view on chichi's controlling behavior is interesting. Tho if gohan enjoyed studying that much it is weird to see how pushy she was towards her son ... it doesn't negate being a scolar was his choice but i don't think her attitude wasn't extreme and aggressive either ...
So... fun fact... Gohan's Scholarship is in Ki manipulation and using Ki battle techniques which means at the end of the day Gohan didn't choose Scholarship or Fighting, but both. This is why Gohan losing power is nonsense, especially when you consider that his scholarship is essentially a form of meditation combat... Also... it's an unfortunate thing that they haven't used Gohan correctly cuz based on his scholarly subject it would be interesting to see Gohan analyze techniques and come up with new techniques on the spot since he understands how to manipulate ki at such an advanced level... Maybe I got it wrong, but how I interpret Supreme Kai's words is pretty much exactly what he said. SSJ is a destructive method of using one's ki. What it seems that how DB says about Ki is that you have an engine that produces, or can produce, x amount of energy.... and base is basically the engine at idle... You can train your body and mind to utilize and use more of that ki. With a calm and focused mind you can open and close your ki channels allowing you to use all of your ki at the very maximum.... however, you can also stress your body, rage, etc allow your ki to rip around your ki channels, which gives you more access to the amount of ki you have, but you're also damaging your ki channels. So... "Ultimate" is superior to and completely replaces SSJ. The only argument that one can make for it to not be is that SSJ does a little bit more than just what i said above. It does that, but the "transformation" that SSJ is, is it creates a new engine or transforms the engine to rise the potential. There is a good argument for this being the case because Kaioken does the whole damaging of the body due to ki usage, but SSJ is shown not to, or not to do it as much, which means, either the SSJ transformation either improves the resiliency of the body against those damaging effects (which would sap stamina) or it increase the potential... or both. I would guess both honestly. It would explain why Goku thinks that SSJ3 is masterable. Also this would explain why Gohan cycled through SSJ to get to Ultimate... It's basically because Gohan's potential is so high it takes a moment to push from so low to max out that transforming to SSJ, SSJ2 accesses those buffs and gets him up to max through essentially revving the engine and then drops out of SSJ2 because he can control that higher level of Ki which doesn't drain stamina and such. Meanwhile, if my above idea is true, t keeps SSJ as buff, but how much, is not really known because based on what we know, we don't know how much of the multiplier is pushing to max potential and how much is due to a potential upgrade... If we assume that some portion of it is then we have to assume that it is somewhere in the range of 150-200x based on the numbers we have and how SSJ3 works and what it does. Also, assuming that Ultimate is basically a ki control form, it means that Gohan could go SSJ3 and not have an issue which would be cool to see... but Beast Gohan, just like SSJ God, isn't really a transformation in the same vein as SSJ and it plays by different rules with different understandings of "power level"
Buu saga gohan is still my favorite gohan, he realized his fighting abilities had become worse after vegeta told him, and then he went to right the wrong with training with the kais. Then came back overconfident sure but any other opponent he would’ve beaten, so he is my favorite
Peak Gohan, from a storytelling perspective, would be Gohan at the climax of his development. There are 3 times when this happens. 1) when Gohan Barttles Cell and completes the final mission on his original heroes journey so that he can live the life of peace that he wanted while having the power to protect the world he cared about. 2) Ultimate Gohan, when he acknowledged his responsibility and didn't just foolishly rush into battles he was unprepared for (you said he's hiding like a child but a strategic retreat makes sense when you're totally overwhelmed. He needed time to recover and think). That Gohan had his peak physical capabilities literally unlocked for him and he was fulfilling his duty to protect the world, even if humanity had already been wiped out, and he was still a student working on achieving his goal as a scholar. 3) Beast Gohan that is essentially Ultimate Gohan 2.0, only this time he's got being a scholar and a husband/dad on the table too. Considering all 3 of these, I think 1 is his true peak, as it's his first heroes journey completion, a point where he truly understands the responsibility on his shoulders, and the fact that he can be himself, but also has to fulfill his duties to the greater world and not hold himself back to fulfill those duties. He unfortunately falls into arrogance over time cause of this and becomes too settled in his own achievement. Thinking too highly of himself and getting lazy during the time skip. But just cause he fell off track doesn't mean he didn't hit that peak. He has to re-learn this lesson multiple times over and over again as Ultimate Gohan and (Super) Gohan, and Beast Gohan. He falls back into avoiding his responsibility. This brings us to future Gohan. Future Gohan sacrifices his desires entirely so that he can fully take on the responsibility he has to face the androids and to try to defeat them. He fails, but that Gohan was certainly the embodiment of a Gohan who took responsibility for the world around him and dedicated his life to fulfilling his responsibilities. There is an argument for this Gohan being peak as he was the most responsible in terms of his outwardly duty to the world, and not just achieving his own dreams. He's a favorite for a reason
I can see the many takes already in the comments and My Gohan Take is that he represents the Future and Paradigm Shift of the Whole Saiyan Race thanks to Humanity. And and End of an Era the exit of the Secrecy of the Z Warriors' unique power and thus share The Truth (Ki Control) to all of Earth (for better or for worse you decide). After teaching Videl she was able to not die due to spoppovitch's beatdown sure she got very injured and got a sensu but she was still alive not to downplay her training before learning about who Gohan Really Is since the Cell Games but to deal with Otherworldly Foes. Ki Control is a Must honestly Gohan should start up his own peaceful Dojo representing both Turtle(Roshi) and Piccolo's styles alongside his book to pick students wisely or teach flight to all of humanity at the very least (to Bulma's chagrin?). And start a background check on what to teach who due to the sheer power boost but it will still strongly require training at least it would make the Tenkaiichi far more interesting for it to be in a Bubble instead of a grid floor if all martial artists fought like Z Warriors perhaps a whole new hero (or villain) would arise from it. Its a LOT of Responsibility but Gohan and the other Hybrid Saiyans can get it done (the best example of this outcome is the sadly discontinued Dragon Ball Online)
im not sure where you got that gohan can just stack super saiyan on top of ultimate gohan. the ultimate release is bringing gohans power up to the forefront without the need of transformations. unless youre saying gohan was to stupid (in the academic sense) to use those transformations against buutanks or later on in the ToP (where the entire universe including his wife and daughter were at stake) it is only shown he can stack the transformations in GT (which is now officially non-cannon thanks to super) even in GT if he could stack them and he continued training his ultimate form + transformations would make him stronger than vegeta 100% he was already stronger with just ultimate. more than anything its more like GT treated ultimate like a temporary power and he went back to being regular gohan with regular transformations in GT other wise why would baby switch to vegeta when gohan can just stack his transformations on top of his superior ultimate mode?
I do believe that Ultimate Power is the highest power that he can access via base form. Beast was originally called Final Gohan before fans pointed out the contradiction of Ultimate. Super has been a very mixed bag.
what bothered me about Gohan totally lacking on his training as an adult was he is too smart for that. just knowing his scholarly pursuits I would assume he would at least maintain a couple hours of image training and meditation a day. knowing his scholarly efforts would be amped by that much. the boy would after Buu know the effects of his power on his mind at the very least. I figure the writers missed something with that in Gohan in a way. I mean people make the joke Goku did pushups and can now read minds. the thing is we don't know but a little about his training with King Kai, or at the Lookout. so, I assume the off screen time was the mental conditioning, image training, something Gohan learned the effectiveness of on the way to Namek.
I feel like gohan not training after the Buu saga is just irresponsible and stupid. I understand not training after the android/cell saga because every single villain/loose end was taken care of so now it. But the Buu saga showed everyone that a threat could just appear out of nowhere so you should always train to be prepared
Gohan characters missies the influence of Naruto that would have deep conversations to de escalate Gohan was wierd he would stop fighting told cell that they didn’t have to fight letting cell beat him up Gohan is rage mode he has that one freak out if you push him to lose control 😅
Think of dragonball as a dungeon raid after frieza. Gohan is the primary dps but is squishy relatively. Vegeta is the tank constantly drawing aggro but lower overall damage output setting aside his ultamate techniques like final flash and big bang attack which again draw aggro. (cell beam struggle). Krillin is also dps with his destructo disks but again hes squishy. Goku is the leader role inspiring everyone applying constant buffs. Vegeta is the tank! Without vegeta the whole opperation fails! In football the lineman are the most important and least praised. Vegeta is the lineman in dragonball.
Still sad Nadolny doesn't voice him anymore. People piss on and on about voice accuracy, yet are completely fine with a grown man being voiced by an elderly woman, though no offense to her actual performance. Young Gohan and Kid Goku have never sounded the same.
Before I watch this, I just would like to say, Gohan has always been a kind and curious person. When he trains he trains hard like he does when he studies, anytime he gets a massive increase in power he almost always gets "drunk" on power. And I is think that's what alot of the fanbase including myself really enjoy about Gohan. Yet what I enjoy the most about this character is his base humanity he isn't a true Saiyan he does have the instincts for battle like one but just most of the time he is basically purely human with some of the best characteristics of us all I enjoy him being nerdy enjoying life, as much as I enjoy his battles and when he makes up his mind when he gives it his all in a battle I think we all jump out of our seats and cling on to every second, the hype is real for this character and I truly believe he is one of the best written character and character development in all of dragon ball, the cell saga itself was a pivotal moment for Gohan and Vegeta and that truly twitches my heart strings anytime I watch that saga. To anyone who read this I'd like to hear your opinion on Gohan aswell if you agree or not I think we all find things about him just purely awesome 😎
Gohan was meant to inherit the series going forward from the cell saga just like how Goku inherited it from Jaco with the Briefs family being the rope that ran through it all. But Gohan developed slowly and in such a way that many didn't like the idea of him being the main character which in turn led to Goku being brought back. The afterworld tournament filler arc was meant to be the last time we saw Goku and while also providing filler to pad out the contacted run of the series. Toriyama got bored with it and decided to try and fill the rest of the time with Gohan who was supposed to take over. But again people didn't like it and Toriyama was ordered to do something else with Goku so he reached into his history and brought out Angel Toccio, turned him into Majin Buu and created the Buu saga which unlike Cell had no Manga to go off of as Dragon Ball Z ended with the Cell Saga. Buu ended up being Canonized and published in the Manga at a later date due to the popularity.
A scholar of what? I wouldn’t mind if we got more than that explanation.. that’s like saying you want to be a doctor… ok well a brain surgeon… a gp… a heart surgeon… a doctor for children… a psychiatrist? All come under the bracket of “Doctor”.
Wait, what! The Boo saga only lasted 2 days? How can that be! You can't even watch all the episodes in 2 days! Unless it's kai with 18 episodes. For kai, the Boo arc is around 6 hours long. There are 92 episodes of the Boo arc in Z. That would take 1.3 days to watch all of it. And there's a lot of small time skipping here and there.
Future Gohan would be so disappointed in current Gohan, Future Gohan knows the risk of how quickly things can go wrong. If future Gohan had as much downtime and the opportunity to train with vegeta and Goku he would be unstoppable

Gohan is more like Spiderman tbh
Gohan is on screen plenty of times when he isn't fighting. Goku is compared to Superman cause their origin stories are damn near identical.
Hellllĺl nnooooʻo
_Nooooo Gohan, you're not allowed to have agency in the plot until the villain has become as physically strong as the writer deems possible, IDIOT, now go sit on the bench with the rest of the Z-warriors, its GOKU time._
Goku: Hey Buu! wanna senzu bean??
I picked a good week to subscribe to your channel. Loving the content my guy! Keep up the good work!
*W*
Yesss!! A long Saiyan Scholar video. Much appreciated.
What gohan did against Cell at 11yo. Makes him the GOAT, let him enjoy his retirement fr
He was 9 not 11. Funimation decided to age him up for some reason. Though you could argue 10 if you want to use the Time Chamber "year".
Gohan is Dragon Ball's version of a Renaissance man... he's literally the best of both worlds.
Telling from the title I thought this video would be more of a criticism. After watching in its entirety it feels more like a love letter to the character. Glad you made it, Gohan is my favorite character and it always makes me sad when people just complain about him.
Namek Saga Gohan was about that life... If he kept that attitude and continued to train he'd definitely be the strongest
Gohan v Kefla would’ve been a great redemption arch for him but the anime only cares about goku and vegeta
I like Gohan as a character, but I never liked his "just born more talented than everyone" angle, especially later when he's far from the only half-human yet continues to be shilled as the only one with real talent (despite others achieving higher powers at younger ages than he did without really trying)
So no one gonna talk about how sayian scholar uploads a shit ton??? Not saying i hate it just something i've noticed
I think it would’ve helped Gohan’s character so much if Goku (in like the cell saga) showed him not be as much as a fighter, but more of a protecter. He has that as motivation later on, but I think if he found that true motivation earlier, he would’ve kept together so much better.
Whatever game that Future Gohan’s death scene is from…Bravo. I’ve never seen that version of his death before, brutally awesome.
34:12 "if an individual has fear of an other individual"
What? No... that's not what courage is.
Everything that's mentioned here is so spot on.
the line art thing is crazy, I always knew he looked different ultimate but I never knew why
Oh I thought Gohan smiled because he senses piccolo is alive but yours makes more sense.
When Gohan was balancing on top of Kami’s lookout in the DBZ intro 🔥.
Sun in his eyes, namek shoulder pads and everything PEAK!!!🔥🔥
Gohan is ok. He's no Tien.
Tien is a God Damn Role model!
Tien goes hard in the og Dragonball series I loved it when he bodied my boy yamcha. Top tier
An hour and 30 minutes of a dbz debate? I’m in
Thumbnail goes hard
GT Gohan happens *after* so he's obviously the *best!!*
Well thought video! Really enjoy your content
which gohan is the best - GT gohan
then saiyan saga gohan beating his fear and fighting
then sell games gohan right when he passes out after cell is destroyed
there
top 3 in proper order
The best Gohan has to be from Dragon Ball GT. You laugh but GT Gohan has the perfect balance of fighting and doing what he loves
Disappointed he didn't have ultimate form
So, when it comes to Ultimate Gohan I've always seen it as Gohan's true base form if he keeps up his training. It's his potential unlocked. So, yes, he could stack super saiyan on it. Now the question is... Is beast form basically his ultimate/unlocked potential's version of a super saiyan or... Is it truly just completely separate with Ultimate still being his true base form
Edit: I just got further in the video and scholar said somewhat the same as me.
A more complete Gohan is a better Gohan
Thank you for reading, means more than you may think to me that even one person would listen to my insane opinions
that was not his arc in the cell saga, that is just something piccolo said.
He doesn’t need to fight the entire time but that doesn’t mean he has to get all soft either :0
gohan as a great saiyaman would have thrived better in a spin off. But that would’ve just meant extra work for Toriyama who got like 20min of sleep over like a week or five.
It’s only controversial because people won’t let that Z version of bro go like his character development and new form now is amazing ! Because remember they tried to make him the main character and everybody bitched about Goku being gone
To help on the Dabura fight:
Gohan needed the Senzubean after their fight
Dabura was all up and ready to party all night after their fight.
You offered Dabura a senzubean? He'd be like "what? regain energy? don't need it"
he had babidis help, like him who broke his neck vs videl
Gohan: " I feel dark presence at this ship".
Chi-Chi: " WHERE IS MY BABY?! "
i don't want any character's transformations to be replaced with a normal human looking form to be more "relatable" when the character already has personality and emotions.
I want to See a Mystic Super Sayan 3.
I love the legacy of Goku bgm. Very nastalgic
I actually don’t like the beast Gohan form they should’ve made him more like a ssj4 or 3
not many people like this crap
gohan blanco doesn't go well outside gohanverse
@@ryszakowy lol well said
You're just nostalgic broooooo lol 😉
Perhaps study up on the timeline before making blatantly wrong statements and touting it as true
Time is relative. It’s why I made the distinction of Gohan’s physical age and calendar age being different
@@kumarayush9950well yeah super gohan is best version of him train, protect and care all in balance
2:54 bro looks like a spider 💀
Reading manga is like encyclopedia of anime
@@ohhellwhereami2574 Amen to that I never thought of it this way.
I feel like most brainlet DB fans only care about the power level. Best gohan = strongest gohan
Out of all of Gohan's choices. The only choice that gets to me is why he chooses to wear glasses. lol It's not like he has bad eye sight. lol
Gohan from that Broly Second Coming was nasty.
We think about the cool part (i am guilty), but if you eperience the Cell Saga through Gohan's lens, all you'll remember was what that part of your life took from you, and the big mistake you made.
gohan is a mess as a character because toriyama is a mess as a writter
Thumbnail was so hard I didn’t see the video is a hour long 😂
In the Dragon Ball Heroes/Xenoverse world Gohan writes a book on Ki.
Ultimate gohan is my favorite
Honestly my favorite form is mystic as that's where the cast should have kept going like in dbs where Goku has a lot more non super Saiyan fights than in dbz post namek. Mystic was that but better as Gohan could and does get much stronger if he kept working at it instead of stopping everytime
It does feel unearned while ss2 was earned as we saw where his rage landed him since his toddler days
All that is good but in Super Hero I didn’t see a pic with chichi on his desk and Pan ain’t with her grandmother
Kid Gohan on namek was so badass
Tbh ssj 2 Gohan could’ve been done better plague of gripes did an incredible video on how to do it and what Toriyama should’ve done
Your view on chichi's controlling behavior is interesting. Tho if gohan enjoyed studying that much it is weird to see how pushy she was towards her son ... it doesn't negate being a scolar was his choice but i don't think her attitude wasn't extreme and aggressive either ...
Western and eastern culture is different
So...
Even thou he is not in his prime, Future Gohan is the most badass of them all. He will never die :')

Gohan is the best character in dragon ball period.💯💯💯 But Gt isn't Canon 😂
I really wish super would of kept the same art style as the end of Z @1:19 it’s just cleaner and trunks looks awesome compared to super hero
Its a LOT of Responsibility but Gohan and the other Hybrid Saiyans can get it done (the best example of this outcome is the sadly discontinued Dragon Ball Online)
im not sure where you got that gohan can just stack super saiyan on top of ultimate gohan. the ultimate release is bringing gohans power up to the forefront without the need of transformations. unless youre saying gohan was to stupid (in the academic sense) to use those transformations against buutanks or later on in the ToP (where the entire universe including his wife and daughter were at stake) it is only shown he can stack the transformations in GT (which is now officially non-cannon thanks to super)
even in GT if he could stack them and he continued training his ultimate form + transformations would make him stronger than vegeta 100% he was already stronger with just ultimate. more than anything its more like GT treated ultimate like a temporary power and he went back to being regular gohan with regular transformations in GT other wise why would baby switch to vegeta when gohan can just stack his transformations on top of his superior ultimate mode?
Does ssj2 gohan get the non cannon movies because bojack gohan is top tier
Who has my favorite character in Dragon Ball Gohan
Nothing controversial for me. Gohan is my favorite character and always will be.
Gohan has the best of both worlds.. he's smart enough to get bullied at school, then strong enough to Defend himself 😮😅😊
I do believe that Ultimate Power is the highest power that he can access via base form. Beast was originally called Final Gohan before fans pointed out the contradiction of Ultimate. Super has been a very mixed bag.
Beast is just ultimate but rage being drawn out
what bothered me about Gohan totally lacking on his training as an adult was he is too smart for that.
just knowing his scholarly pursuits I would assume he would at least maintain a couple hours of image training and meditation a day. knowing his scholarly efforts would be amped by that much. the boy would after Buu know the effects of his power on his mind at the very least.
Drinking game, take a shot ever time you hear the word scholar in the video
I feel like gohan not training after the Buu saga is just irresponsible and stupid. I understand not training after the android/cell saga because every single villain/loose end was taken care of so now it. But the Buu saga showed everyone that a threat could just appear out of nowhere so you should always train to be prepared
He trained bro💀
@@ohhellwhereami2574 resurrection f?
@@Just-A-Bit after resurrection f he did
Gohan characters missies the influence of Naruto that would have deep conversations to de escalate Gohan was wierd he would stop fighting told cell that they didn’t have to fight letting cell beat him up Gohan is rage mode he has that one freak out if you push him to lose control 😅
18th like of the video, this will be fun to watch
I have a theory. What if Beach Gohan. Is what happens when you stack super Saiyan and ultimate together.
Toriyama already confirmed it's gohan rage being drawn outside in his ultimate form, you could say it's his beast inside him awakened
Gohan is gokus greatest son. Let the controversy continue
Maury: you are not the father
*Yamcha laughing in the background*
all ima say is he got 2 new forms back to back then fumbled the bag both times right after.
Forgot Gohan was 4 years old on Namek.
'Teen Gohan' is also 10 at max
Definitely hoping the Moro arc is after the super hero arc. Because Moro arc Gohan was definitely better than Gohan at the beginning of super hero
Buu ended up being Canonized and published in the Manga at a later date due to the popularity.
chichi is an ideal mother really
If Gohan was more motivated in super Saiyan 1 he would not need super Saiyan 2
A scholar of what? I wouldn’t mind if we got more than that explanation.. that’s like saying you want to be a doctor… ok well a brain surgeon… a gp… a heart surgeon… a doctor for children… a psychiatrist? All come under the bracket of “Doctor”.
Cells defeat at the saiyan might of Vegetas balls 😂
When he sacrificed himself for Trunks
I dont think hes controversial i kist think people dont understand him properly.
