  • Since 2008 HP has pioneered a new wide format printing technology that we've all come to know as HP Latex. Over the past decade Latex printing has exploded from a niche eco-friendly player to the market leader in the 54" to 64" outdoor durable space. Over the years a few rivals have tried to offer competing Latex printers, with Mimaki, Ricoh, and others taking swings at the champ. This year a new contestant has entered the ring with Epson's launch of their Resin SureColor R5070 platform. In this video we're going to compare the Epson Resin and HP Latex printers so that you can make an informed choice for your business.

    Just purchased a 5070 2 months ago. Have an HP 365 and Roland VS640. I will admit the Epson is the smartest best built printer. Pantones hit their mark. Awesome print quality. Automated maintenance and head strike aversion. Been around printers since Scotchprint Electrostatic and this machine has driven in a new standard

    A few years ago we looked at Epson S40600 and the HP equivalent. We ended up with the Epson purely based on color accuracy. When it is time to upgrade we will be evaluating Resin.

      @@azatmexperts5538 We haven't had any complaints. We aren't a heavy user, some days we don't use it at all and most days we just run a couple posters on it. Occasionally we run big jobs. I haven't got any complaints about it. The color consistency is fantastic and the quality and vibrancy is also extremely impressive. We haven't had any issues with it mechanically.

      cant compare a Epson solvent printer to this... You literally have to wait 6-24 hours to laminate your prints. With the HP latex you can laminate instantly.

    How does the Epson ink hold up to the torture's of vehicle wrapping? How far can we stretch the material before the color shifts? Will the color come back with heat?

    • @ITSuppliesINC
      @ITSuppliesINC  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Dave, great questions. We have customers who are very happy using the the Resin for vehicle wraps. Ink elasticity is one of its strengths. That said, shoot us an email at info@itsupplies.com and we'll print some samples that you can stretch and test.

    In your best estimation, do you foresee a newer version of the 5070 down the line that separates overcoat from the ink formulation like HP did moving from the 3 series to the 700/800/630? I have concerns that since this is a 1st generation resin printer that Epson may not have learned from HP's initial faux pas of including overcoat in the ink for scratch protection and thus created something that won't bond to overlaminates longterm just like HP did with the gen 3 inks on the 300 series printers. Have you done any pull tests of laminate on resin prints? Is it as strong a bond as solvent prints or latex 4 series inks with the overcoat off? Sorry for the wall of questions!

    Most important features that are missing from this video are: 1) Epson use variable dot ink tech starting from 3.5pl , when HP use single ink dot of 10pl, and the second is resolution where Epson have 1200x2400dpi and HP have 1200x1200dpi.

    On the Signs101 forum, I read a lot of delamination problems on Latex printed wraps. Does Epson's resin have a similar issues?

    • @sezgindervisoglu8490
      @sezgindervisoglu8490 ปีที่แล้ว

      That is a very good question. We have the same problem with our HP latex printers. Someone needs to explain why is this happening and is it the same with epson too. I just ordered my 5070 and if it does the same that would be such disappointment...

    • @ITSuppliesINC
      @ITSuppliesINC  ปีที่แล้ว

      Hello Ahmet, There are several factors that can lead to a print "delaming" from the graphic. One variable to consider is the print itself. HP Ink must be fully cured before laminating. Each media has a specific curing temperature for the ink that's laid onto the surface. Factors built into profiles like, pass mode, ink density, and curing temperatures all play a critical role in a print fully curing. If end users are following the guidelines of the media manufacturer and overlaminate manufacturer you shouldn't see these issues occurring with either ink technology from HP latex or Epson resin.

    As an HP L570 user for the last 4 years, I'd say that it would be hard for Epson to be any WORSE than HP for color accuracy and consistency.

    • @ITSuppliesINC
      @ITSuppliesINC  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hey James, Thanks for your comment. Color consistency was a major focus for HP with their new Latex 700 and 800 line. Epson's Resin and it's micropiezo print head also addresses color accuracy and consistency. We'd love to help you test both printers, shoot us an email at info@itsupplies.com.

      @@ITSuppliesINC Yeah, I hear that HP supposedly addressed these concerns with newer products, but they should've done right by those of us who already invested in their technology rather than making MORE promises and demanding we give them another chance at our expense. I loved our HP L25500's, but the 570 we replaced them with should've been recalled and replaced with something that actually works. Our 570 has been a problem child since day one and I've wasted uncountable amounts of media, ink, and time dealing with it. I know I'm not the only one, either. I'll happily give my business to anyone but HP next time.

What are some similar alternatives to this model? Thanks in advance and also, I hear him say it would cost 20k+ and 127 print heads to get the same amount of prints out the HP as the Epson. Thats shocking and sounds like a typo its so expensive
