    I would leave the industrial rail spurs in use in but not have trains running on them in game. They would only be serviced by one train every few days or something. Also I wouldn't have the rail cars on the tracks that are blocked off by the light rail station. They would have pulled cars out before taking the tracks out of service.

    This line has the vibe of still being in use. Considering the ore and farming industries are booming in copper falls and the desert, it would make sense for the rail lines to still be active and servicing these farming and ore industries. Also a slow moving freight train rolling through there would look really good.

    Personally, as someone from San Diego where the freight trains still run on the "light rail" tracks at night about twice a week, I think it would be great if those rails were functional, but as for in game and the region's history, I'm not so sure. Either way I think it's fine, although personally I lean towards having them functional. I do agree with others who pointed out that cars on abandoned lines would be removed first before the access point was scuttled.

    Creative C:S channels have always been a niche, rarely gaining more than a small following. But I have to respect 2.20 because there is something, some special charm about his videos that can make them enjoyable to watch for everyone, not just the niche. I can't quite describe what it is exactly, but there is that something that makes his videos just straight up amazing. Keep up the great work!

    This is honestly one of my favorite builds you’ve done yet, and it’s probably going to be one of the coolest spots in Oakwood. I just love seeing all the rails, and the sense of history/the area having a past is really immersive. Going to be super excited to see this side of the bay grow!

    Whenever I see trains in Cities Skylines it makes me think of Broadway Junction here in New York City. It consists of all these various subway lines (I think 5 or so) that meet up to form this web of train trestles. Not to mention there's even a train yard nearby. It's just a very interesting site to behold.

    If you fly over LA on google earth check out the LA river near Glendale and downtown. The city has spent millions revitalizing it with bike and walking paths, but it’s mainly a wide, empty concrete trench that runs through a lot of industrial areas. Parts of the LA river are often completely dry, other parts have little islands in the middle, some areas have sprung up homeless encampments. It’s essentially a canal with a dozen different personalities. (It’s where they filmed the final racing scene of ‘Grease’) It might be a cool addition to Oakwood near the old rails!

    The old Sacramento Northern interurban system, that ran over the Bay Bridge between Oakland and San Francisco, could serve as inspiration for the historical precursor of your light rail system over the bridge

  • @elijah6970
    @elijah6970 4 ปีที่แล้ว +4

    You should look to sacramento for some inspiration. The blue light rail line passes through suburbs in the south next to a passenger/cargo rail.The light rail splits off and eventually goes east in between a freeway. But the cargo line keeps north to the midtown area and eventually by an industrial area where some buildings i think still use it for agriculture transport to farmers further north in the valley. There’s a lot of other stuff about sacramento that is similar to this project if you want to take a look.

    In San Diego freight trains do crawl straight through the center of the city, and if you get stuck at a crossroad with one passing, they go so slow and are so long that it sometimes takes 15-20 minutes

    If you want the chimney to stop emitting smoke, click the building and tick "abandoned". Also makes it look more abandoned.

    Man I can't get enough of how well you understand cities and its environment, like I know those things are out there but almost never build it into the game. I think you're going in the right direction with your builds so I just can watch and enjoy.
    *** Also guys, does Procedural Objects impact the game performance a lot or not? I've beeen thinking on subscribing to it but idk if it's worth it with 16GB ram and 4GB of GPU, my game runs pretty smooth but I wouldn't like to force it that much I have to use this thing till I graduate from college

    • @ionardlegras
      @ionardlegras 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Procedural objects increases loading times proportional to how many objects you have. If you use it lightly, it shouldn't be too much of an issue. It might also make your game laggier - but again, that's proportional to how many and how complex POs you have in your save.

    I think it would be great to see the freight rail be partially abandoned but one or two buildings still uses the rail. Just have to figure out a better way for the rail to crossover. Maybe the freight splits in between the station and intersection, one part goes on how it was and the other joins the light rail. You could say that the city used part of the existing rail infrastructure in the construction of the light rail. Off of the light rail, for just that little stretch, the freight trains can access the building

  • @alec347
    @alec347 4 ปีที่แล้ว

    I think maybe replacing the building with the smoke stack with a frieght yard that is occasionally serviced would be awesome and a nice nod to the history of rail in Oakland, the western terminus of the Transcontinental Railroad. There's a ton of train stuff here and if you havent already, check out how frieght and Amtrak drive on the street at Jack London Square.

    Just a thought I had: if the light rail should go past the oakwood long distance station, maybe do a championship tennis club that the light rail goes to. there are some amazing tennis stadium assets on the workshop, and you could detail it up like there is a tennis major tournament there, and have the light rail go out to service it when people are competing. Plus I think it would fit the vibe of oakwood and would add some interest to the city outskirts.

  • @pessimisticvideographer5039

    I like the idea of the industrial tracks being in use - if you could it would look really cool if you nuked the speed limits on those tracks to like 5 mph though. Seeing a little light rail scuttle past a train crawling next to it would be really cool.

  • @crashboxnat545

    Keep the Freight in use, but make it so trains come very infrequently. Also maybe consider extending the Tram line one more stop so it loops around nicely to stop the carriages glitching?

  • @abibu_chan

    The light rail could use a park and ride at the end of it, with easy access to the highway.

    At 6:48 you have railroad tracks going across pedestrian walk ways and other tracks going to and stopping at the side walk? And stop lights in what would be the middle of the railroad track? Never seen anything like that in my entire life. Just above that you have a 3 lane road that (appears) to go south into a two lane with no merge lane, that will lead cars into the center median.

The industrial area you were working on near Oakwood with it's abandoned freight lines are light rail running through it reminded me a lot of the Trafford Park area in Manchester in the UK. It has / had a lot of abandoned freight lines running through it that used to serve the industry around their, with part of it having recently rebuilt for a new Manchester Metrolink tram line through the area. www.google.co.uk/maps/@53.4675001,-2.3121805,2592m/data=!3m1!1e3?hl=en
