All recruits should be watching these videos so they will know exactly what they are signing up for. Kudos to the North Las Vegas FD for taking the time and effort to make these videos.

Who shoots and produces these pieces? In-house NLV staff or exterior vendor? Well done regardless!

You have these individuals go through this process of physical stress when the ability to perform the job is more mental than phsy. the reason you do this is tradition. " I went though this so they must too". This is horse shit. the fire service is not a paramilitary service. It is more a cerebral profession that needs an educated more than "wet stuff on red stuff" base

Its is a paramilitary profession, For example, after we are hired, we go in front of our elected officials and are sworn in under oath. We also progress through the ranks, starting out as a firefighter and working our way to the top, becoming a company officer. We also follow the incident command system and chain of command to know to whom we have to answer; from whom we take orders; and, most importantly, with whom we must coincide when it comes to working with other companies. We wear the same uniforms, follow tactics, functions that all must be adhered to for everyone to come home safely. Fire fighting is one of the most physically demanding jobs on the planet, of course it's cerebral as well but they must be able to use that brain under the most stressful and tiresome situations. They are being trained to work 48 hour shifts some which will only sleep a few hours in that entire shift because we are a transporting department. You are more than welcome to come to our department and we can show you what we have to deal with in a day to day situation. We can give you an educated look into a department that runs 40 thousand calls a year with less than 220 fire fighter.

Have you ever been a fire fighter? Doesn’t seem like you have by that comment. I was a fire fighter for 2 seasons (Forest Service and CalFire) and let me tell you… what you are asking your body to do under that amount of stress is eye opening. Being a fire fighter was the best/ most rewarding job I have ever done. The academy style NLVFD is operating under is 100% what should be done! The biggest thing they are teaching is discipline, accountability, team focus, and also attention to detail (just to name a few)… The “Militaristic” style they are using is exactly what it takes to build strong and capable fire fighters! Keep doing what you are doing!
