You’re selling points to 3-5 stars are; the smallest program in the division, minuscule budget, 50k yearly school bill, no priority scheduling, coach can’t mandate players to show up to practice.. not many HS stars are gonna bite at that. Drop to D III where no school has scholarship programs.

They had a losing mentality because of the coach wouldn’t you rather play a field position game and win 17-14. Rather giving your opponent only half the field to go. Taking phones on a road trip these guys aren’t kids you have to trust them. He had such a ego that he sat his running back to prove a point look at me. Your losing guys left and right and he can’t even see it. I would have gotten more out of these kids for sure. Trust me when you coach a team as a team and you don’t treat people like individuals you are gonna lose your team. Not every kid is the same you have to figure out how you get the most out of your guys.

@@WillE454 they lost games because they tried to run up the score if your in a low scoring game you run the clock pass here and there they had games they were winning then lost because of mistakes qb had 3 turnovers before half he needed to slow down the game get trough a possession instead of going out and passing again. They lost 3 to 4 games a real coach could have pulled out. These guys were done after 3 weeks.
unfortunately with his coaching style, u put ur defense in some really bad positions and without a strong defense these bad positions will eat u alive. he was dealt a bad set of cards at PC, no scholarships, least talent of any D1 school, even if he switched up his coaching style, the result wouldve been much the same. I hope he gets another shot at the college level sometime soon, his offensive planning is explosive and his playstyle can really work with a good team
Hell no not for a team like this. All of these dudes were literally walk ons the college stopped giving out scholarships, which caused most of the seniors to leave and on top of that they had less time to practice because athletes don't get to sign up for classes before the rest of the students unlike at other schools. You can't expect someone paying 40k a year to be as motivated as a dude who's getting a scholarship and has better facilities than them

Coach Kelly can coach the way he wants in High School but you can’t walk into a college where you have no footing of you being successful at the next level and act like that. If they had a coach that adapted and got on the same page as his players he wins 2-4 more games.. you lost this team being you/ Urban Meyer.. You can’t come to the D1 level acting like Meyer it’s like Meyer going to the NFL acting like himself. People don’t listen when your not a players coach as they grow older

As a former d1 football player. You cant coach grown men like a pop warner team. He acts like a high school coach and talks to them like children and no team of grown men are ever going to buy into this joke of a system.
Yes you could put the blame on him, but seeing as how he didn’t get to meet his team until the season started and develop a relationship and base structure with the team, he was basically walking on one leg through the first half of the season, after the 72-0 loss the whole team was demoralized and anything he tried didn’t seem to work. But yes his philosophy did cost them crucial points which would cause bigger gaps that they would have to work harder to try and win. They did end up changing towards the end of the season but by then the damage was done. But you can’t expect a coach who was in high school for so long where he dominated with this specific coaching style that he’s been doing his whole career and expect him to immediately be great with his team, especially under those circumstances. (Edit: by all means I am not a D1 player so if their is anything I missed then I would like to know)
Yeah it seems like the average successful coach in college must scream and yell profanities, must demoralize the confidence and the intelligence of each player. Must fight with his players and of course must fight with the assistant coaches and staff. And last but not least must lie to his players making them think they are NFL superstars while holding a degree over their head but at any moment it will be taken away and the player will be sent home. 😅

A lot of these guys seemed like they had bad attitudes going into the season, but I also didnt think it helped the way the coach just whined and complained and barked at his players everytime they made a mistake. Your job as a coach is to make them tough, and to help them improve as men by lifting their spirits. Taking the plays where they made mistakes and practice, and showing them how to execute those plays correctly in practice, and drill them over and over again. But when game time comes, staying positive, not beating your players down or treating them teenagers. I think he lost the morale of his team by the way he beat them down. You gotta get them fired up, lift up their spirits, motivate them to be better, not sit there and continue to whine and nag and remind them of every single thing they did wrong. Their very aware of that; pull them aside and show them the right thing to do, not remind them of the wrong things they did.
