Comparing individual car values with the *average* stock market return is pretty dumb. If you get to cherry-pick the cars in hindsight, you should also get to cherry-pick the stocks. Investing in Berkshire Hathaway for example would have made you 25,000 times your money over that period - way more than any car.
Also, keeping and maintaining a car over decades costs a ton of money. Holding a stock costs nothing.

Enjoyed your review of the 1966 Road & Track Marketplace. A 1964 Ferrari 250 GTO for $12,500. That was a lot of money back then. When I was 17 in 1970 I was so excited one day to tell my Dad I saw a brand new Ferrari Daytona Convertable at a dealer in Southfield, Michigan, for $19,500. RE the patreon question: England's (side) B-roads are still restricted to 60mph (10 mph below the national limit).
Thing is, those roads are single carriageways (one lane each direction) and quite narrow, so it makes averaging 60mph rather difficult, unless your in a road-legal track-car basically. 🤣 Rather entertaining.
The only unrestricted roads in the U.K are on the Isle of Man, but not the whole island, I don't think.

Here’s the thing with the Nismo Z.
    1. Why are there not as many manual sales as transmission sales? Dealerships are HARDLY ordering manual Z’s. So when dealerships either refuse or don’t have allocation for someone to build a different Z, that forces consumers to leave or buy the automatic.
    2. 0.6s quicker 0-60 is nothing to write home about. This is the Nismo. It NEEDS to handle better and keep the driver engaged and focused. Is the 0-60 an improvement? Sure. It’s a welcomed one. But telling consumers that? Yeah, we don’t care if that’s the justification for the automatic only option.
    3. The manual transmission is touted for having a carbon fiber driveshaft. Awesome! That’s a HUGE amount of weight savings! So why not do the same for the automatic? Nope. 150lbs added from WHAT? The brakes should only be a few extra pounds, so let’s say 25lbs or so. Wheels? They should be forged Rays, like tradition would have it, so they should be lighter than the regular Z. So that should help even the bigger brakes. Suspension? I’d imagine you’d go for lighter and stronger parts, like aluminum, to improve the weight of the car.
So HOW did the Nismo go UP 150lbs? Chassis bracing, okay, fair. But bigger FRONT brakes and extra oil and cooling capacity should not be that much.
    4. Nissan is completely ignoring their fanbase. Almost EVERY Nismo enthusiast strictly buys a manual. If the new Nismo had an exclusive dual clutch transmission, then awesome!

The Bentley seems to offer something that most cars don't when you climb into many new cars, something that is its own thing. I only really felt that to some degree with a Mini and when I went to go look at an old Integra Type R, there are many ways to make you feel special but it takes a certain kind of car to make you feel in a class of one, I certainly don't think a 911 could do that hence where the Bentley comes in. But what the 911 (and frankly, what I'm finding out with my Golf) is climbing in and out of new cars everyday and being charmed by stuff will still not wipe away the feelgood factor restraint and good build quality have as interior impressions. You still feel great.
The Road and Track marketplace bit was pure gold.
Re: XC60, my uncle recently replaced his 520d with a XC60 B4 which I experienced for a week and I really wasn't charmed at all by the nice enough but not all that special interior or the meager power or the crashy ride quality at 160km/h. It felt positively sluggish booted that I had to respond to allegations of it being fast with "oh sure it's peppy" ...Bleh.
As a transportation pod, I can definitely see it as a replacement to the Mach E but I hope to god the Recharge feels better than that. XC60 really reminded me of the infamous Car magazine cover from the 60s that saw a Volvo as an appliance in powder form with "genuine swedish feel". Made me feel awful smug I wasn't spending my money that way in the most boring way as a "well off" person, especially if you like driving.

    • @neilturner6749
      @neilturner6749 ปีที่แล้ว

Re XC60 - I had a top-spec 2022 petrol-hybrid one for 2 weeks this year as a courtesy rental car from Porsche UK whilst my base Macan was being fixed and frankly it was shockingly godawful in comparison. Nice cabin design and decent punch from the powertrain, but the ride quality and handling (in particular the steering) felt so crude that even my wife, who’s really not “into” driving, initially thought there was something wrong with the car! Worst thing was that the Lane Assist (which constantly resets itself to “active”) kept trying to literally push the car into the verge on our typically narrow British roads, meaning it was a wrestling-match just to keep the thing in a straight line on many single-carriageways. We used it as little as possible and couldn’t wait to hand it back. Considering the model we had lists at similar money to our modestly-specced Macan (low-£50k’s) and is actually much more expensive to Lease or PCP, I’m amazed they’re so popular. I can only surmise that most buyers don’t realise they can get a Porsche that’s in a different league (even in boggo spec) for similar or less money…

Dude, the guy who says the auto industry gets away with nothing must not have heard the law that I'm sure they had a hand in writing, earlier in the ep. Dude, car companies are coming out with a boatload of EVs that are heavy as shit, but also are generally fairly powerful. Every halo car is now an EV. So of course the restriction is on high power, low weight cars, not just on high horsepower cars. P100d? 451kW. Weighs 2200kg = 205kW/ 1000kg. So a dumb-fast EV that gets jumped 400 feet down a street in SF would be exempt, but a Lambo is not. The P100D does 0-60 faster, and would hit a pedestrian far harder. Makes absolutely zero sense to me.

If you deduct investment fees you should also deduct insurance/maintenance fees for the car over decades. Remember that these increase as the car becomes more valuable, as opposed to investment fees that have decreased over time and are basically zero today.
Regardless, the real crime here is comparing the cherry-picked returns of individual cars to the stock market *average*. If you get to pick the stocks in hindsight as you should in an apples-to-apples comparison, you get insane returns. Berkshire Hathaway for example has returned around 25,000x in that period - 10 times more than the best car Matt mentioned.

As a South Australian it's a definite knee-jerk reaction but was also the "easy" way to clearly legislate something in response to a (hoon?) irresponsible driver who killed a pedestrian on the side of the road because they couldn't control their Lambo showing off on a suburban street.
      A few things to note:
      1. This is only applicable in the state of South Australia - we have

Hope I’m not being pedantic here but the questioner did say “England” or “English” as I recall?
I appreciate that moniker is often innocently used by foreigners as a substitute for Britain, the UK, or being British as a nationality, but the IOM is a largely autonomous state that is neither part of England, the UK or Great Britain.

Comparing individual car values with the *average* stock market return is pretty dumb. If you get to cherry-pick the cars in hindsight, you should also get to cherry-pick the stocks. Investing in Berkshire Hathaway for example would have made you 25,000 times your money over that period - way more than any car.

Also, holding a stock costs you nothing. Holding and maintaining a classic car costs you a ton.

I am blown away by the response at 1:14:00🤯 but it makes the sema episode make more sense. Just no pushback whatsoever, especially considering that modified cars are what brought so many of us here.

Just no pushback? Not sure what you mean, he cited a book "Unsafe at Any Speed" which has plenty of pushback on the idea that the carmakers are overly regulated.

Being healthy is not fun. Cold showers, Wim Hof breathing techniques, no alcohol, eating organic. Those are all very hard to do consistently or every day. But never getting sick and feeling great all the time is pretty cool. Seriously I haven’t been sick in YEARS I can’t actually remember the last time I was sick. I don’t need medication or vaccines. Seriously I don’t get sick, you don’t have to get sick ever either. Just watch a Wim Hof video and follow along. Just turn the shower cold and breath through it. Sucks but you won’t get sick ever.

What you've just posted is insane and not healthy at all.
You don't need cold showers (you can do this of course), you don't need breathing techniques.
You can drink alcohol and you do not need to eat oraganic food (organic is BS btw.
To be healthy you need to eat moderately and eat diverse food, exercise, sleep well.
      Better not to smoke too.
      That is pretty much it.
