Nnadozie David You better hurry up and do what ever you’re going to do because I swear as soon as this coronavirus nonsense is over I’m coming to Germany to meet this beautiful woman. The only red flag I see is this beautiful black woman like to live in places where there are really no black people. Now that I’m thinking with the head on my shoulders, I think I’ll just keep my black ass right here in Atlanta, Georgia. It’s beautiful sisters like her everywhere and the like being around people who look like them.

Well done for winning all those scholarships that have led you to where you are. You're such a great example for other black girls who would like to explore the world. I m an African living in Scotland and I totally love it. Homogenous societies will always be ignorant, but you can always find open-minded people to explore the world together.

What a bullshit... I'm Angolan 22 years years i grew up in Berlin, Germany since the age of 3. Only "be careful" if you're strolling out at the night alone, overall Germany is much safer than USA. You're probably one of these Americans who probably never been outside USA borders and got to know different cultures and still have stereotypical about Germany....

Thanks for your insights! A great story you got. It is really impressing to make a decision like that: to move to another continent and cultural area in a totally alien environment with the aim to stay for a longer period of time. I am German and my Italian girlfriend did it similarly to you, moving to Germany for her studies at University. Italy is not as far away as America, but nevertheless different in terms of culture, climate and language. She also came here without really knowing anybody else, just because she always has been so interested in German culture and language and been fed up with Italy as a state. Now she's been living here for seven years. And despite that, growing some roots is not always easy, it is more that she is stuck in between two countries in a way, seeing advantages and disadvantages in both countriies, feeling cut off a part of herself in either way - thinking about permanently returning to Italy or staying here. You were talking about "moving on" soon, as conditions have changed. I hope it is not just because of your ex-boyfriend or mainly for the situation for black people you described in the other video. I wonder, though, whether my girlfriend returned to Italy in case we 'll split up (theoretically spoken).... Feeling "home" is just a complex thing.... it is not only about your own past, heritage or family. It also is about loved people, about familiar places, smells, sounds, appreciation and - yes - the feeling of being a part of the whole, of belonging to others. I am always happy if people can feel at home in Germany, despite some hurdles or difficulties. But it is an individual thing and not to be forced. I'd also wish you to feel enough at home here so you'd like to stay for longer. But you seem to be a very open minded and curious person, so moving elsewhere is always a new chance for new impressions and lessons to learn ;)
Speaking about your time in Germany and Austria: did you notice any differences as far as your "black colour experiences" are concerned? In terms of feeling welcomed or pushed back? What do you like about Austria and your German region? In terms of landscapes or dialects or attitudes or behaviours? And dislike? And do you feel related to other Americans, like from New York City, living in Germany? I think there are always such expat groups and so on... or do you find it rather useless to meet own countrymen abroad?
Unlike the United States, Germany has never had the self-image of being a country of immigration. And regarding the diversity of people it is of course much more homogenic. That is why people of colour or any kind of "person with a migration background" as it is officially stated, are still more "stared at" here. They - positively spoken - arouse somebody's interest and yes, even the ignorant question of "where are you (really) from?" very often is just a sign of true interest, despite the aim of reducing complexity and putting people in a box (which can be explained by my previous sentence). But much has been changing for the last decades here towards a not only more multicultural country (nearly half of today's school children have that so called migration background, meaning at least one of their parents is no German citizen or was not born here). I guess it just needs some more time for "normalization".
But: there is this "norm" of what it means to be German and it is stuck in people's heads. Germans have been arguing over that for centuries: as there still was no unified Germany prior to 1871, there has for long been the question what united the Germans besides their language. And those cultural questions - what makes a German a German - often led to a shared heritage finally. This is why this issue still is dominant today. Other immigrants' nations like the US never had this "problem". And countries with a unified state's history, e.g. like France, didn't use to have it either.
And that is still why in Germany "integration" is such a topic: foreigners shall not only learn the language and find a job, so they can contribute their part, but shall also fit in culturally - in any way. But to which extend? In Austria it is similar, I think... finally, Austria just belongs to the same cultural sphere and used to be seen as an ordinary German area like Bavaria, Brandenburg or the Rhineland as well in former times until political tensions and wars separated it from the rest.

You don't sound like just 24. But having lived in 4 countries probably makes one more mature. And you like the way you talk - even if I can not really say why. I have the impression you are just telling facts, not trying to blame anybody for anything not trying to show how good you are. It's more like "tiefstapeln" (the opposite of "showing off").

Berlin, Hamburg, cologne, Dresden and Vienna are great cities. Switzerland has got a great one week rail holiday (not sure about the name). You could also take holidays in the summer around alpine lakes in Germanic speaking areas such as die bodensee, which borders Germany, Austria and Switzerland, die zurcher see, which borders zuerich, and die vierwaldstattersee, which borders luzern

Montreal or Toronto Canada is great. Very multicultural and we’re friendly people. My parents are Jamaican and there are tons of Jamaicans here in Toronto and in Montreal. Although there are so many other different people from many cultural backgrounds, you really can’t go wrong. Montreal has a vibrant student life culture while Toronto is a bit more corporate but both places are great. Come through! 😊

I understand why you turned off comments in another or your videos, but are glad you don't have them off here. It's pretty cool that you are making some videos from a different viewpoint. I was stationed in Germany for over 8 years so can relate and offer some observations on life of a black person in Germany. (not that it should matter, but I'm old and white).
    - Staring - it's not just because you're black (well, a little, or a good bit), but Germans do stare at anything or anyone different or out of the ordinary. They would stare at a group of us white G.I.s out for a few drinks very intently.
    - German reaction to meeting a black person - It may very well be you are the first black person many of the Germans have met. One of my buddies often got more attention (positive and curious, never negative) than he wanted whenever I brought him out anywhere with my German social circle. Yep, they all wanted to touch his skin and hair.
Have a good time with whatever you decide to do. I'm glad you are enjoying your experience overall.
