      Do we feel like the guys doing tricks in the Rucker were "more skilled" than Jason Kidd?
      Are receivers more skilled than running backs?
      Do we feel like today's musicians are more skilled than musicians in the 90s too?

      Yeah I mean if Shaq played during the 60s he would've been a totally different player. Wilt Chamberlain by far was the most skilled and dominant big man of that era. If you watch Wilt you can see that he was supremely athletic and would've given Shaq fits if he played in the 90s & 2000s. He was 7'1 275 back then and the strongest player in the league. That's pretty much like Shaq weighing 350 in the early 2000s during his 3peat. As great as Shaq was Wilt did everything he did better, better scorer, rebounder, shot blocker, and defender. If we remove rings from the equation he really stands alone in terms of GOAT status. He has numbers that no one will ever touch long after we're all deceased.

  • @willpomeroy7711
    @willpomeroy7711 7 หลายเดือนก่อน +12

    Chris, that was a great explanation comparing 90's basketball to the modern game. If you go back and watch classic 90's games on TH-cam, you see so much more movement on the court, and so many different combinations of shots, passes, and moves. In the modern game, it's simply a three-point contest and attacking the rim. Casuals say the 90's players 'can't shoot', which is just not true. They were excellent mid-range shooters instead, and didn't take as many threes, but they were knocking down jump shots at will back then.
    You'd think 'attacking the rim' would be very entertaining but the rules favor the ball handler so much that it's impossible to stop dribble penetration without fouling. Modern basketball basically has two offensive players standing in both corners at all times as shooters, and they spread the floor so much that the paint is never protected. Even then, there's very few elite shot blockers or rim protectors in the league anymore, when back in the day you had true power forwards and centers 'protecting the paint.' They also eliminated 'hard fouls' as well, which so guys going to the fear have zero fear at all.
    I miss back-to-the-basket post-play, passes to the post, mid-range shots, guys moving without the ball, and I also miss the 90's scoring, when every basketball just kind of felt like it was a big deal, and that a 10-point lead in the first half was a massive lead. Teams can be down 15-20 points in the fourth quarter now and just hit a bunch of threes and be immediately back in the game. You lose the electricity and desperation when teams can easily surpass 130 points. At one time in the 90's and early-00s a three-point shot was actually kind of a thrilling play and so cool when marksmen like Reggie Miller, Glen Rice, and Mitch Richmond would knock down 3 or 4 threes a game. Now teams literally attempt over 50 threes a game, and it's guys like Steph curry and James Harden are allowed to take 15 threes a game sometimes. Three-pointers and free throws aren't entertaining basketball.

Scoring is so much higher now because guys are better at putting the ball in the basket now then they were then it's that simple
      This trend is just pushback against these false narratives from the younger generation.
      And how is the product better then? Have you actually sat down and watched a full 90s game? I've watched many Bulls games from the 90s and all Jordan did was complain to the refs, in fact he was known to be coddled by the refs by his contemporaries. MJ was playing all these expansion teams and a bunch of drug addicted players. This is no secret.

Shaq, Hakeem, Barkley, Ewing etc but in reality, when these big man had the 🏀 Michael Jordan never checked him, But on the offensive, and he will attack them, but on defense, he would hide from them. You see the difference. He was a one trick pony. These guys were not his problem on the defensive end. He didn’t have to worry about them mainly Scottie Pippen, and the bulls big man did the job Michael Jordan job was simply just the score of the 🏀. Because that his position shooting guard Clyde was his Best comp Clyde Played with 0 HOF players in Portland (No help at all)
      BUT NOW LEBRON COMPETITION SF
      Kevin Durant ,Kawhi Leonard , Carmelo Anthony ,Paul Pierce PG13,
      Giannis ( was a SF 2014-2019)
      Jimmy Butler, etc The list goes on and on throughout his career almost every night LeBron James had his matchup cut out for him and also the team need him to score the team needs him to get his teammates involved. The team need him to also get rebound with Michael Jordan with simply ask the score that’s it. LeBron James faced Dynasties. 5 time Champs San Antonio Spurs. Dirk a top 10 all time scorer. The Goldenstate Warriors who were a 73 Win team and added Kevin Durant and who have the greatest shooting team of All-Times that's who LeBron James had to Face. It's not even close plus he never had a Phil Jackson just rookie coaches.

      It’s just as much if not more the opposite direction. Because people can’t handle that some of the best players of all time still retired a decade or more ago. Not all, but some of the best. Guys like Luka said it’s easier to score in the nba than Europe. Defense is softer now. That’s what gets trashed and downgraded because it’s true. People aren’t trashing the players themselves individually as much the defense and rule easing all around.
      For players like Luka and Embid they had their scoring averages increase 3-4 points each between the 2021-22 and the 2022-23 seasons. It’s not a coincidence; they didn’t both simultaneously become instantly much better scorers that summer.
      No, the NBA continued to soften on defense, the refs called the game to favor offense, etc. to allow them to look even better as offensive players and for players like Lebron to more easily maintain their stat lines from ten years ago.
      It’s bad marketing for the nba when most people know the best player ever retired over 2 decades ago, so they gotta level the playing field by jacking up offense beyond belief over defense, barely calling travels, etc.

KD is widely regarded as a top 15ish player all-time. People are already putting Giannis and Jokic in the top 20 convo. Westbrook, Harden, AD, Dame, CP3, and Kawhi were all named Top 75 players all-time. Most people acknowledge Luka will be an all-time great, once his accolades start to catch his talent.

      You can look at their channel, they do this with all "guest segments". They have one video where they ask the guest's their opinion and a 2nd where they discuss it among themselves.
      It's so they don't interrupt their guest and whatever they are promoting with their own talking points. Really not that deep and pretty standard in radio, podcasts, and TV interview shows.

    Being a older guy myself they need to just admit they can't let go of their childhood heros lol. To refuse to admit the game has evolved is crazy and clearly bias. I was a Bruce Lee fan boy, but to say he could beat up the average mma fighter of today would be crazy. Jordan was amazing, but he also didn't have anyone that could match his athletic ability and he was amazing in the mid range. But they need to stop pretending like Jordan played tough teams and got beat up all the time. He's the reason superstar calls became a thing and you weren't allowed to touch him since he was the face of the nba. Crazy how people forget that to protect Jordan's toughness lol. They change the bar of what makes someone the best to make sure Jordan stays number 1 in everyone's eyes. They kill LeBron if he doesn't make the finals, or playoffs, and make it seem like Jordan one the finals and made it there every season lol. Jordan would hate today's media if he played lol

      Mj face 💩 competition especially at his position 🤷🏽‍♂️
      Let me ask you a simple question ? Who was Michael Jordan best competition at his position? SG? Latrell Sprewell, Clyde the Glide, Grant Hill, Mitch Richmond, Reggie Miller, Penny Hardaway, Tim Hardaway, Joe Dumars, Kevin Johnson ? MJ was playing all these expansion teams and a bunch of drug addicted players. This is no secret.
      Can’t be Kobe or A.I.those were Teenagers at 1996 😂
      Usually when I ask this Michael Jordan fans start the name mostly big man centers & PF 🤦🏽‍♂️😂 from the 90s.

      @@oooi2848 stop being dense. It’s very clear when you sit down and watch a lot of Jordan’s Comp just weren’t that good. The stars can somewhat be compared through eras but the average players of today are substantially better than the average players from the 80-90s. If you put Durant, Lebron, Curry, Kyire in a 7 game series to be guarded by a 38 year old Jeff hornesek with the illegal defense rule in play they would all average 50 while all playing the game very differently.

      @@devinsmart1547 don't be an ignoramus. Jordan played against a ton of good comp, cut it out. Picking the oldest person u can find and saying that is who the stars of today would cook is disingenuous. Same stars that struggle with 50 year old PJ Tucker. Cut it out dude. How many players that played in the 90s into the 2000s have said Jordan would be averaging 40+ today based on the lax defensive rules? There's a reason the NBA is actually talking about changing defensive rules. When u can carry the ball (Poole, Morant, and everyone else) and can take a gather step and take 2.5 more steps after that u can essentially do whatever u want.

    • @xxtopgunxx8764
      @xxtopgunxx8764 7 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@devinsmart1547 players today are more skilled, if that's what you're saying...as they should be, every generation learns from past generations and improves. But that doesn't necessarily make todays players better than 90s players. You have to add context if you wanna compare eras. The game back then was very different, so the players then adjusted to how the game was being played at that time. If you took a past great player and made him play "now" like he was playing in the past, in most cases the said player would most likely appear less skilled....Or not as good. But if said player was to grow up in the modern era, his game would most likely have developed more towards what is needed today.
      Just like if you were to take Kyrie from "now" and drop him in a past era, he would most likely appear out of this world good....but if you dropped Kyrie in that era, in the sense that he was born then and played through that era from his childhood through being a pro, his game would've been adjusted to that era, and most likely would've "appeared" just as bad as past players.
      They key word I used was "appeared", because that's what it is. Most players from past eras, aside from the greats, appear bad because the game was different. Have you watched Magic dribble? He looks funky as hell...but again, keep in mind that back then, any dribble that didn't have your hand completely on top of the ball was considered a carry. Almost any move used today by skilled players to generate their offense, back in the day it would've been called for some kind of violation. Harden? Back in the 80s or early 90s, would never be able to get away with his step back shots or tangle fouls...
      So while I do agree that players today are more skilled "again, as they should be", that doesn't translate necessarily to modern players/eras being greater than past players/eras. Past players adjusted their game to what was needed and how the game was played then, same with today.
