As a fellow self-employed person who also felt/feels guilty relaxing (and is struggling with adrenal burnout), please remember you only have one body. As you mentioned, you don’t get paid for sick time. So…maybe think of relaxing like maintenance for a machine. It’s not enough just to exercise, your machine needs downtime to continue to function well. I probably have 25 years on you, and trust me, it is much harder to maintain such a pace as you age. So please take time to relax and enjoy yourself. You’ll be more productive in the long run if you do AND youll be healthier, immune system stronger, not to mention taking care of those adrenals, which are so important. It’s easy to take your health for granted when you’re young. I did too, but I wish I had a much older self-employed person to wave the caution flag, if that makes sense. We love what you do, it’s SO refreshing to see your boundless energy and enthusiasm, Katie! Always enjoy your videos, your novel (and those to come) and book recommendations! ❤

I feel like I definitely have a better work-life balance most of the time now I'm freelance, but there are certainly mad months on occasion, and I do have to be reminded to sometimes relax!

Thanks for your insights to editing. Very interesting! As a self-employed person myself, I can relate to everything you said. It’s not for everyone, but for me, it’s everything!!! I won’t be returning to in-house jobs. Enjoy your creativity and independence forever! 📚

Thank you Kate. I'm glad you've found a career in which you're happy. Too many people work jobs in silent (and sometimes less-silent) misery until time comes to change. As well as sounding happy, you look happy too. Good luck with Mrs Montgomery Hersh and happy holidays.

This is so helpful, thank you so much! I was just thinking about this the other day and wondering if this would be a good time to finish my degree so I'll be ready to move into this sort of position when the last of my children are grown. I've worked for quite a few years as a freelance writer, blogger, social influencer but have always wanted to finish a formal education suitable for editing work. I feel like having a good understanding of the work of editing will help me better produce my own work for publishing.

Gosh I clicked on this video thinking It would not really interest me.... I just wanted to tell you that I just finished reading your book and I loved it.... but I got stuck into this video and surprisingly it was so interesting and just useful to know the process of how books are made. Back to your book...I kept thinking whilst I was reading it that I can't believe someone I actually know in real life has written a book this wonderful and then I had to remind myself that I don't actually know you but I feel like I do cos I have followed your journey for so many years. Anyway sorry for the nonsense ramble. Congratulations on the book and look forward to reading the next one. I would be interested in a video on badly edited books and what you would have changed, chopped out etc. Thanks for the great work and content

I live a tea book. I often drink three or more cups of tea so this would be a good reading choice

Thanks! TH-cam does like to just remove comments sometimes, annoyingly, especially if they have links, but sometimes just randomly!
