I consider it a great blessing to be able to hear the Dubliners live twice. As someone who has moved between German, Irish, British and Canadian worlds, I can say that the boys have had an extremely positive influence on my life, not just emotionally but in many ways. ♥

My god, I was only born in 1978 but I cherish Luke Kelly. I’m a Kerry man so that says a lot !
The whole world should hear Luke Kelly’s voice, he deserves more than an statue, he deserves global recognition, as a wonderful artist and musician.

Getting old video footage of not just Barney and John but both Ronnie AND Luke together in the classic lineup (minus Ciaran) is such a gem. Two of the most unmistakable, truly, truly, inimitable voices to ever sing a word existing in the same band still blow my mind, and I'm an American who was 5 months old when this video was recorded and I've been a fan for decades. I always think of Schooner Fare's Fiddlers Green and the Dubs version could not be more different. Same with the Clancys and Finnegan's Wake. The Dubliners were so wonderfully immediate, rough, raw and unpretty, yet gorgeous beyond measure. I was born too late I think somtimes.

So great to see a clip of them with Luke still in the group. Not to take anything away from Sean Cannon, Jim McCann, Paddy Reilly or any of the other great singers the Dubliners have had over the years, but there was never any of them that matched Luke. Ronnie's voice of course was in a class by itself with all the grit and gravel in it. But when you needed a softer, sweeter touch like you do on many songs, Luke was the man. Of course they're both gone now (Luke for many years) along with Ciaran, Barney, Jim, Bob Lynch and most recently Eamon.

@@kathrynlandry-ir8khIf you don't mind me asking, what country are you from? I'm wondering if you might be American or Canadian, because, although The Dubliners did tour in North America a couple of times in the late 60s and did The Ed Sullivan and David Frost shows, they were not as successful over there as they would become in mainland Europe and as a result didn't have the same sort of exposure The Clancy Brothers and Tommy Makem had. Apart from their popularity in their homeland and Britain, they would become massive in Scandinavia, Holland, Austria and in particular Germany.

I am a bit slow and just discovered this band. They are awesome! Wish I had discovered them years ago. How many of the original members are still alive? Do they still perform?

John DeAngelo They are great aren’t they? Unfortunately, John (the violin player) is the only remaining member from this lineup. I believe he’s around 81 now. They stopped performing in 2012, but I’ve been reading recently that there are reunion shows planned for 2020. Not sure who will be included in that.

I think this was 82, not 1980, Ronnie is on his feet here, he was recovering from a hip operation in 1980.

But I ve seen them both here as well as in Ireland numerous times. Top class

I am unwilling to join the controversy over year ‘80’ or ‘82’ but I traveled from London to Dublin at that time. Boarding an AirLingus plane in London with no luggage and sitting down I did not initially notice my travelling company, as the plane left the runway a voice further up the plane demanded service

First class Luke fan but I find that he's more confident/stronger when Ronnie was on the stage. But that's after hours of watching them. Interested in others' comments.

@@ysoldeclaireduffy7344 I loved this Irish awesome band since I was 9 in 1978 and I have noticed in this vid there is no Ronnie Drew this line UP consists of Barney Mckenna Jim Mcann John Sheehan and Luke Kelly by this time Ciaran Bourke had permanently left the band from developing a terminal illness which was a brain tumour which sadly crippled Ciaran and he ultimately became blind as it was seen on the late late show in 1987 the year I turned 18 and all these men but John are dead but never forgotten there will never be another Luke Kelly or Ronnie Drew

Ok, that's clearly Barney at the banjo in the beginning...why isn't he noted? And, while Nigel Warren-Green did appear here and there as a guest musician, he was never an actual member. And when he DID appear, that was in 1983-ish....
