@@johntazbaz1121 drown them ? Long side up in a garbage can full of water. If that doesn't work buy a pellet gun.
But if your in a big city & you use a bb gun you might find yourself in a Democratic left wing trap.

Okay, so I just got my trap. I ordered a rat trap...I was not prepared for how heavy this thing is. It's a very large trap.
It's 2.5' in length, 14" wide, and just over a foot tall for just the cage portion, but with the top portion on it's just about 21" tall. I don't know how much it weighs, but I'm guessing close to 40lbs. Hence, why the shipping is so expensive.
Shawn must be a huge guy, because the way he is picking this thing up, and compared to his body...I just didn't realize how big and heavy it is...or the trap he got was not quite as large as this one.
What I didn't know is that this trap also comes with what is called a "transfer cage" which is a separate smaller cage (15"L x 6"W x 6.2"H) that has a carrying handle on the top of the cage, and a sliding door to it.
Honestly, I think they ought to consider a rat trap about half this size as well. This may be just the size you want if you have a really serious rat infestation and you have a large barn or storage area. And that you are going to be okay pretty much leaving it where it is, because the other issue is that it would be a large trap to store when not in use. I really only have the fall to worry about here. Other than that...Idk, this may be more trap than you want or need. Wait till you read the information sheet that comes with it.
There are no instructions for assembly, but it's pretty straight forward. It will be easier with a hand drill because the holes where the screws go, don't line up quite perfectly.
They do include one page that give you tips for the best use and here it is:
"You are now 50% of the way to being a successful rat trapper. Raccoons and cats are easy to catch, but rats are a different story. However, you can increase your catch by locating the trap properly and allowing the rats time to establish scent trails to and from the trap. A floor stopper rod is included for this purpose. Leave the rod in (so that the floor of the trap will not move) for the first few nights or until the feed is gone. This will give the rats confidence in their new food source. *Then remove the rod about every second night*. This has worked well for me. You will need to determine the best bait to use and limit human scent around the trap as much as you can.
Once you have caught rats in the trap holding cage, you need to remember that if you move the trap you will interrupt the rats' scent trail. In addition, if you kill the rats in the cage, rats will avoid your trap in the future. The best solution is to move the rats to THE TRANSFER CAGE, which is included with your trap, and then dispose of them elsewhere."
Just me interrupting here for a second...So, you will not be dunking that rat trap. It's a big ass trap for one thing, so you'd have to take it to a pond or something big enough to dunk it. Secondly, they tell you not to move it. But hold up...you are supposed to get the rats to move from one cage to another. Think of refueling an aircraft while in flight. I'll be real honest with you. I'm not excited about this part. One guy wrote that he actually caught 21 rats in one night, there is no way in hell you are going to transfer 21 rats from the huge cage into the little cage. So in the event you get a big number of rats like that you will be doing multiple transfers.
Also, there is a "lip" on the sliding door to the trap cage, and there is a "lip" on the transfer cage to grab so you can slide it. For shipping purposes they were the opposite ways you would want them for the operation of transferring rats from one cage to another. You've got a height difference between the two cages, and thus the two sliding doors. You are going to have to butt these cages together, sliding door to sliding door. If you turn the lip of the transfer cage back towards the rear of the transfer cage, the sliding door will block the opening above the transfer cage so rats can not escape while you are doing this transfer.
You will only open the sliding door of the trap cage a few inches, but you need to block off that extra space due to the height difference between the two cages. I will have to steel myself for this. It's unsettling for me just thinking about it. MR. UHLIK, PLEASE DO A VIDEO OF THIS PART OF THE OPERATION!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I WANT TO SEE THAT VIDEO!!!!!!!!
    Continuing with his "tip sheet".
    *"Tips to get you started:*
-Rat blood in the trap is a NO, NO. (So you ain't shooting them) Set the trap in a location so you can move the rats into the transfer cage without moving or handling the trap.
-Dried pieces of cheese work well for bait. Look for outdated cheese at your grocery store. Non-roasted peanuts and dried cat food can also be used. Wet foods are NOT recommended for bait in this trap. The bait has to be more appealing than the rats' current food source (chicken feed, hog feed, dog feed, etc)
-Patience! Patience! Patience! Rats are smart, but this trap is smarter! Your job is to get them take the bait. That is the other 50% of being a successful rat trapper.)
-Trapping is a game. The longer you trap, the better you will get. Don't underestimate your opponent!
*How to move rats from the holding cage of the trap to the transfer cage: (YOU NEED TO DO A VIDEO OF THIS PART!)*
    1. Set the transfer cage next to the sliding door of the trap holding cage (this would mean the two cages will be end to end, butted up to each other).
    2. Cover the transfer cage with something black (plastic, cloth, etc- he included a piece of black plastic). Rats love to escape into black holes.
    3. Lift the transfer cage door up 3 inches.
(Me/my opinion: Lift it up as much as you need to lift it up so that it will block all the open space that will be exposed above the transfer cage due to the difference in the heights of the two cages. That's going to be more than 3". The transfer cage door will slide UP to block the extra opening to prevent rats from escaping out of that opening. The sliding door to the trap cage slides to the side (if at the back of the cage it will slide to the left). (Note: The sliding door to the trap cage doesn't slide super easily. For shipping purposes the lip of the cage was turned towards the cage so that that lip isn't sticking out, but it's a little difficult to grab hold of for purposes of sliding the door open and closed, so I pulled it out and reinserted it so the lip is not sticking out so it will be easier for me to grab hold of to slide when doing this whole transfer business. However, it does pose a safety concern that way. The metal edges could definitely cut you. I may put some duct tape on that for my protection. Red tape would be ideal. I did exactly the opposite with the sliding door to the transfer cage. That lip was sticking out away from the trap, but if left that way it would create a gap between the two cages that I don't want when doing a transfer! So I pulled the door of the transfer cage out and turned it around so that it would now be turned back towards the transfer cage itself. This allows for the two cages to be butted right up to each other with no gap.)
    4. Slide open the door of the trap cage 3". This makes a nice 3" square hole for the rats to move through.
    5. Tap on the far end of the trap cage with the floor stopper rod to encourage them toward the opening into the transfer cage. When the first rat goes into the black hole, the rest will follow.
    6. If one or two rats want to stay in the trap cage, that is ok. They will be good decoys to catch more rats!
    Good Luck!
    Matt"
So there you have it. I kind of thing that whole rat transfer thing may need to be a two person job for me until I get more confident about it. Hope this helps others considering this trap.

I really enjoy seeing your traps. You are a true American inventor, always thinking about a better mousetrap . I see this comes in three sizes, I wonder if you could make like a really really big one where the top food Hopper is kind of Disguised like a taco truck? Or maybe a crack house? On my own damn front porch with some Amazon boxes or some tools and a project like a broken push mower that I'm obviously working on . Yeah some kind of diorama, That would really help with the particular problem that a good friend of mine is in right now. Just saying.

    • @michaelbuckers
      @michaelbuckers 5 ปีที่แล้ว

It's a repeating trap, it's specifically for catching many animals at a time. Single-catch traps are ubiquitous, they're the most common type so you don't even need to look hard to find them.

That is a GREAT Trap! I would love to see this in a Plank version for a Water Trap, Maybe a conversion trap with "Live Catch" OR "Water Kill Plank" trap in One so you could choose either one as you needed.

Design looks a lot like the repeating rodent trap which holds an international patent. Search for these terms and you will find the video: Live animal trap, trapping, rats, mice, pigeons, sparrows, rodent, vermin

2 words- Riot Control. Stores ought to set this up when they are closed to catch looters.
