My husband and I are planning our first Alaska cruise in May. I found it interesting when you talked about green apples for sea sickness. I had never heard about them being good for nausea. However, many years ago when I was pregnant with my first child the morning/all-day sickness was horrible and the only food I could keep down was green apples. Now it makes sense.
Living in Maine most of my life, the last place I wanna go is Alaska. BUT, that's just me. Getting out of the cold for the Caribbean is what I Cruise for.
Cruising to Alaska next May! Really looking forward to it. I have our list done and I'm adding and subtracting things as I think of them or I see a tip in a video like this one. Thanks for sharing.
I heard a travel commentator say recently that if seasickness is a problem and you want to go to Alaska to cruise from Vancouver and not from Seattle. Apparently the Crossing from Seattle across the open ocean to get into the Inside passage is where the rough water is.
Aimee Rogers Yes. If you get sea sick make sure your ship goes between the main land and Vancouver Island. Otherwise you’ll be going around Vancouver Island in the Pacific
Love your info! Going to Alaska in less than 2 weeks (my 4th time!). Thank you for the advice and reminders! BTW, scarf, hat and gloves for Glacier Bay! :-)
Found your channel from being on Travelling wth Bruce and your info on Alaska Cruises was very informative and quite enjoyed it so became a new subscriber. My wife and I are 52 days away (July 13th ) from our Alaskan cruise aboard the Celebrity Solstice and it can’t get here fast enough and is our 1st cruise of this size. Thanks again for the great info keep it up. We have planned 4 excursions for the Alaskan cruise so will be quite busy.
Scott Brodie You will have a great time. Alaska is like no other cruise. So beautiful there. Be sure to join in our Live chat on Mondays & let us know how your cruise went when you return.😊
Sharon at Sea yes have been viewing them. Looks amazing and looks like you had an amazing time. Hoping we don’t have the sea sickness you experienced, as I had a very bad experience with sea sickness on a day cruise to the Bahamas I ended up in the infirmary and missed out on the island sightseeing. I vowed that cruising wasn’t for me but giving it another chance. Will let you know how it went. I’ll try to tune in on your live blogs.
Scott Brodie Well plan to go to the lower decks mid ship the 1st sea day and bring something for sea sickness. Just go prepared. The 1st Sea day us the worst. After that smooth sailing usually.
I'm going next May! So excited! We are going to start to prepare for Excursions here in a few months! Just so we know we have them and they won't be sold out! :)
Hi Sharon! Do you have any recommendations on camera equipment & lenses for the Alaskan cruise we're headed out on July 17! Anyone else having suggestions related to DSLR lenses etc?
Hi Vicki, make sure to have a lens/camera with good zoom/telephoto capabilities for great longer distance shots. We usually have a go-pro/waterproof camera handy as well and always keep the camera at the ready, you never know when that perfect whale watching shot will present itself! lol Have a great trip!!
Great video. What ship did you cruise on? I have narrowed my options down to Eurodam or Ruby Princess because of Glacier Bay. But I have 3 daughters ages 13, 13, 9...and they do not seem very excited for this trip. Thay have been to Bahamas, Caribbean, Mediterranean, Mexico cruises....its been very hard to sell them Alaska....lol
I'd suggest you not overbook shore excursions. Leave enough time to just chill and absorb the surroundings--that's part of what's so special about Alaska!
Thank you SO MUCH for the info! We embark on the Golden Princess June 9th-15th, NEXT MONTH!! I think I’ve watched EVERY TH-cam video out already, so to see this pop up was refreshing, to say the least! 😆😍😅 What were the dates you went? Also, overall, how would you say the weather was when you went!? This is my VERY FIRST ☝🏼 CRUISE 🚢... I’m so excited and NERVOUS 😬 at the same time as I have absolutely NO CLUE how I’m going to do as far as sea 🌊 sickness goes 🤷🏻♀️. I’m hoping that having a balcony and being on the Lido Deck will be of SOME kind of HELP! Thanks again! 🙋🏻♀️
Tara Donnelly Hi Tara, You will love Alaska. It is so beautiful. We went the last week of May 2017. Usually the weather is cold then, but we got very lucky and had really nice weather. It was a little cold in Juneau, & got a little rain, but all the other days were sunny and warm about 70 degrees. So you just never know about weather there. Very unpredictable. The 1st sea day heading to Alaska we were a little sea sick. That's the worst day usually. It tends to be a little rocky heading up that day. After that it should be smooth sailing. If you're worried about sea sickness, just come prepared and bring some medicine or sea bands. Also if you start to feel sick, go to the lower decks mid ship. Thats where the least movement is. Don't stress, you will have a great time. Let me know how you did when you return. Enjoy your cruise!!! Sharon🛳
Thank you so much, Sharon! I will give you an update! We are sailing out of Whittier, AK, so I am quite excited to spend the day at the Anchorage Saturday Farmer's Market! And we will end in Vancouver, CA, and I'm excited about THAT, as well! Right now, I am on Amazon purchasing ANY meds. I think I'll need! haha Good night, Sharon!
Thank you for this information. It is super helpful. My husband and I, along with extended family will be going on our first Alaskan Cruise at the end of July and I'm so excited!

Scott Brodie If you scoll down or check my play list you will see all of our Alaska vlogs. We were there last summer. I think there is 7 or 8 of them.

Sarah L You will have an awesome time!!!
Thank you for making this video! I love your advice and already began creating my packing list!
Anne Marie Passaretti Great...You will love Alaska!!!
great tips!
Awesome vid!
Thank you
Going on May 19 .. packing not as much as you did .. lol, where did you get your sweatshirt?
Got it in Ketchikan at a store close to the port..for only $9.99!! lol
wifi? best cell service? do you need to talk a hot spot?
The ship wifi was not very good, although had full cell service access in all Alaska ports. We have Verizon. We didn't bring a hot spot.
Also, if you're travelling from Canada on an Alaskan cruise, you will need a passport.
I always take pictures of my credit cards, passport and all important paperwork then email them to myself so it is always acceptable to me.
Take a tour that goes in land instead.
