Agree completely about using a smallish cross body bag on the ship. It's nice to have your hands free, especially if you feel wobbly when the ship is moving. Some people use a lanyard (you can buy them on board) to carry their room card key, which is very convenient since you use it not only for the room but to pay for drinks. Great tips, Marnie!
Great tips!!! One thing we use is the new Princess app.....Princess at Sea......you can text back and forth with people you are traveling with. If you turn your phone onto airplane mode you won't accrue the roaming charges. However, it only works while you are on the ship.
Baggalini bags are great for any travel destinations. They are light and weather resistant. Designer bags are best left at home for adventure traveling. On board ship I only use a wristlet or a lanyard.
We've cruised quite a few times with our kids (since the youngest was about 9 and he's 16 now). We've never used walkie talkies and it never seemed to be a problem. We always saw them throughout the day and no one ever got lost. I don't think any of them would have wanted to carry something like that around. We are all cruising again in July and this time, if they want to buy any social media packages, it's up to them since they're grown now. :)
I always bring a power strip and 2 multiple (6) USB power heads. I also bring USB battery packs. Buy the highest rated portable power pack you can find.
Hi Marnie - I agree with you, I cannot wait to get back to Alaska. My husband and I drove to Alaska on the ALCAN Alaska Highway a year ago August from Wisconsin. We were gone for 21 days, which was a tad long for me, so the next time we are going to do a cruise version, so I am most appreciative of you sharing your experience and recommendations. Our bucket list goal is to visit all the National Parks, so we certainly got our fill including; Theodore Roosevelt Natl Park in North Dakota, both Banff and Jasper in Alberta Canada, then in Alaska we did a tour with a fantastic wildlife group and spent time at Kenai Fjords, Katmai, Lake Clark (we flew in and were up close and personal with the bears), and we actually stayed at Camp Denali at the end of the road and it was breathtaking and the wildlife was so amazing. We saw so much more than I ever anticipated and I feel like there is so much more to see and do in Alaska.
We went the week before you to Alaska, on Holland America, I found the same thing, daytime was camp wear, outdoorsy for excursions, two formal nights everyone dressed up, days at sea the same as yours super causal , we dressed up every night for dinner in dining room, the group we were with had an evening concert at 6 every night and dinner was at 8:15. Saw whales, bears, and seals, eagles , and For King and Country , in concert 6 days in row, great time, the family loved Alaska, daughter 21, sons 18 and 14, and husband, all felt it was great to explore The Last Frontier.
Hi Marnie, thanks for sharing your video. We are going on an Alaskan cruise. Thanks for all the tips and suggestions. I bought a Canon SX730 HS to take on the cruise as Miss Crystal suggested. Looking forward to the cruise.
I have never used a purse when on the cruise ship. Just a tiny cross body carrier slightly bigger than my iPhone XS. Phone, room card, tissues, chapstick/lipstick and a couple of individually wrapped wet towelettes. Perfect!
Thanks for the tips. I never thought of doing the Clorox wipes but definitely doing next time. I totally disconnect on cruises so my phone goes off and does not come back on until we hit the port we left. Wilkie talkies are a must.
Hey Marnie! Glad you found my info and videos helpful! We used to take walkie talkies on cruises years ago but found too much interference, no matter the channel, because so many others were doing the same. We've never found we needed extra hangers and you see all the clothes I bring, lol. Carnival was the only line that was lacking with that. The room steward will always bring more. I'm wondering if the newer version of that camera isn't as good for low light because mine is great and that is one of the reasons I picked it besides the zoom.
Yes on the Clorox wipes. Use them on airplane armrests, tray tables, tray table latch, anything around your seat that you touch. That Baggallini you showed has several SMALL compartments, I don't think it's as useful as the small rectangular bag you showed, for sure it can't hold as much. I have that Baggallini (and many others of that brand), I don't use it a lot. You can find convertible bags that can switch between crossbody and backpack. That might have passed for the air excursions. Another option to explore for casual trips is the Scottevest brand, sold online. The company makes sleek travel vests, jackets, and more for both men and women. Tons of pockets inside the clothing hold a lot, but the jacket or vest look like normal clothing.
Be careful on those wipes! Clorox disinfecting wipes DO NOT kill the Norovirus. Clorox GERMICIDAL wipes do and you have to buy those from places like Home Depot or Lowe's etc.
We are leaving in 3 days - SilverSeas - the Muse to Alaska. Never been on a cruise... husband had back surgery and I wanted small ship. 580 people. The Silverseas looks luxurious ... everything included even flight from NY to Vancouver. Will post when we return.
We did a northbound Alaska cruise earlier in July and traveling in one direction was my biggest tip after the cruise too! We added on 4 land days and I wished that had been 5 or 6. Like you said, there's so much to see there that you barely get a taste of anything! About the power strips, people need to check with their cruise line to see if such a thing is allowed. Holland America confiscates them if they come on board.
Super helpful Marnie...we did Alaska cruise a few years ago...my return list was the same as yours! Lol cruise and learn for sure! I did love the casualness of that cruise :-)
Great tips! My family cruises a lot but usually to warm weather destinations. We have brought two way radios but always found them a pain in that finding a clear channel lol. But really good tips!
Hey Marni, check out Pacsafe. They have lots of options for bags that you can use when you are out and about and they have safety features against pickpockets. Gave me peace of mind when I was touring Italy.
Thank you for the tips! My bestfriend/sister and I are taking our first cruise trip and it's to Alaska! I will get Clorox wipes! And hand purse sanitizers and lotions. Thank you!!!
I tired of the designer bag discussion. There are many other shoe/boot options that work. Do not take offense, but you appear to buy higher end clothing while ignoring cheaper, though just as functional, outdoor gear. The multiple binocular recommendation was great. Walkie-talkie was another good recommendation. There are brands such as BaoFeng that have channel options to avoid interference from others.
Hi Marnie- I know this is an old video but my sister and I are taking my dad on this cruise in August to celebrate his 80th birthday- thanks for all your helpful tips, especially the disinfectant wipes! Norovirus is no joke🤢 We chose this itinerary because they all live in Seattle so no need to fly.
Leaving for Denali land tour and Alaska Cruise in August. Love your imitation of the ship hair dryer. Hahaha! Always bring mine for my thick mop. I have viewed so many Alaska packing videos and purchased so many items for this specific cruise, Thanks for the walkie-talkie- tip. Had heard about the wifi issues. Great tips!
We are going in August for our 40th anniversary. I always cruise in the southern areas so this cruise will be a bit different. We live in the deep south of Louisiana so cold like a lot of snow is not where we live. Thanks for the tips because they helped so much. Some things you said I do no have so that will be on my list to purchase. I did buy some snow water proof boots that are very warm and I hope they are not too much as they fit mid calf. You see I am a southern gal and don't really know how to dress in the snow. Thanks for all the tips.
Another great cruise is Fall Foliage down the East Coast including Montreal, Quebec and Nova Scotia. This was very informative. Thank you. I'm glad that the most drama we had on one of our two Alaskan cruises was the ship running out of ketchup and trying to keep it on the down low😉
I wish the walkie talkies worked for us! We even purchased more expensive walkies with a bigger range and still didnt help. We've been on 14 cruises and there is always interference or they just dont work :( We also always bring the power strips to plug everything into (love those... a must!) Thank you for the video! Going to Alaska for a 7 day cruise on Friday. Its been a challenge to pack for this cruise!
You can log in to wifi packages with any number of devices. You just log out of one and log into the wifi with the other. We do it all the time between my husband's and my phone and our tablet.
Great video, Marnie - you hit the highlights of tips! The one I would add is that most of the cabins have metal walls so take magnets with you to post appointments, schedules, notes etc on the wall to communicate with your cabin-mates or family, or as a reminder of that SPA appointment, special dinner reservation, etc. Just returned from a 13 day European river cruise on the Danube (from Budapest to Prague) on AMAWaterways. Unfortunately, the cabin on the river boat wasn't metal! Additionally, the river boat cabin size makes your "suite" on Princess look like a palace! Love your videos, vlogs and YOU!!
Great tips! Don't know if I will ever go on a cruise; but, one where casual wear is the norm sounds GREAT to me. LOL! Really enjoyed the footage you captured with your new camera. I commented on your Vlog of the trip; but, for some reason my comment as well as my 'like' did not register (thought you should know since maybe it's a TH-cam issue). I agree re: the practicality of the cross body Baggallini. I'm ready to replace my leather purse with something like that again for everyday use!
My husband & I are planning to do the Alaska cruise in September. I enjoyed your tips on this video and was excited to watch your Alaska Vlog video, but when I clicked on it it said Video Unavailable! I was so bummed & wonder why it's unavailable? Any chance you might consider putting it back up?
Thank you for these great tips. I will be going on a fall Canadian cruise and I am sure the weather will be similar to what you experienced in Alaska. Instead of bear we will want to capture the beautiful east coast with a good camera.
Great tips. I am so with you about disinfecting. I even do it at "nice" hotels. I have seen enough horror stories on TV. Why take the chance, it only takes a couple of minutes.
Hello, Just found your site and love it. We cruise a lot but never in the north. Next year for our anniversary we booked an Alaskan cruise. Your tips were very helpful. I am a cold natured gal so I am preparing to bring warm and cozy clothes. Your boots are something I want to check out as I have had foot surgery 2 years ago and still deal with some discomfort. Yes my doctor said no flats so these boots look like they will be comfortable. Where can they be purchased on line or in store? I was taking notes as you were speaking. I don't want to miss bringing anything. Yes I did book the same cruise as you did but its through Carnival. Please let me know where you got your boots. Thanks for all your help., Linda
Two years ago my husband and I went to Alaska we LOVED it!!! We flew into Anchorage rented a car and spent 3 nights in Seward, 3 nights in Denali and 3 nights around Anchorage. It was amazing and we can't wait to go back. The one thing we didn't have was a really good camera I will have to check out the Canon you suggested.
Great and useful tips thank you. My family and I are going to Alaska in june 2019 can't wait so trying to prepare. The walkytalky suggestions is awesome, along with several others you mentioned. The blow dryers example had me cracking up. Thanks for the video.
Gracias I’m going to my Alaska trip for thy first time Thank you gave me sooooooooo much information I love 💕 it GRACIAS !!!!!!! Love 💕 MARIA and CARLOS
MARNIE...THANK YOU! I cannot tell you how much your cruise videos have helped me!!! I leave on our Alaska cruise on Aug 26th and these videos have been a God-send. I really appreciate every single tip, and your timing could not have been better. I got the same rain jacket and just love it (I got sunset red). And the Clorox wipes tip...YES! Everything. I'm going to watch again and write everything down so that my trip will be perfect. 💖💋👍🏼🚢
I love videos like this, as I am a traveler, but a TERRIBLE packer, LOL! I'm going to look into those sperry boots you bought, as I need a boot like that. Were they light weight? -Quincey
The more people "wipe" or "clean" rooms/cabins, the more these companies will definitely instruct staff to NOT ATTEMPT to clean, because now they know that 'we' will clean. I refuse to clean on my vacation it must be and should be the job of these companies to make their employees clean!!! It's a catch-22, for sure. I understand wanting to be clean, however, how does one put that responsibility back to the company? Yes, i saw the Lisa Rinna episode :)
I wish we would have taken walkie talkies- great idea! The cell phone issues drove my husband insane because he worried constantly about our kids. I also took a baggallini and it was perfect for excursions because it does rain a lot. I found mine at TJ Max for $20 and Marshals also had a few selections last summer. We did the Vancouver to Anchorage route and it was perfect. I will go back and when I do, I have to do the dog sledding excursion. I also need those duck boots!
I've cruised Alaska 3 times. First time was your itinerary. Next trip we cruised up then did the Denali park. Last trip was the best we flew to Fairbanks & did Denali first then cruised back to Vancouver. Rested an ready to fly home on this last trip. FYI I love your channel👍.
Hello There! New subscriber here! Love your Alaska videos! Question....when you ate at the up-charge restaurant, did you make reservations for it while you were on the ship? Wondering...as I don't know exactly when our formal evenings will be & didn't want the reservations to coincide with that. Oh! We are cruising to Alaska very soon! First cruise ever! Kind of excited! Thanks for sharing your all of your wonderful videos with us!
Where and how did you pack your power strip and extension cords? I packed an iron in my suitcase and they took it, it was my first cruise. Didn't know you couldn't have an iron. That is a great ideal, but I don't want them to take them from my bag or suitcase.
Helpful video, except that everything you mentioned is high end and expensive and most people are just not that affluent, especially if you've saved up to even afford an Alaskan cruise. There are less expensive options for everything you listed. I mean $150 for a blowdryer???!
He marnie hubby and I have booked a cruise to Alaska for July 2019 we haven’t travelled overseas before but been on many island cruises we live in sydney and I’m a terrible packer so I have been watching you and crystal to get ideas lol I take my wardrobe as there is no baggage limit but now I’m flying I need to be good lol wish me luck 😊😊😊 thanks for all your tips we leave from Seattle then back to Seattle thanks again marnie to you and crystal xx I have watched you both for many years 💕💕
some interesting points, but if you want to discover about best way to tips to save money on cruises try Debuncar Cruise Saver Aid (should be on google have a look)? our work buddy told me about it great
Marnie, love this video! I use to live in Alaska. It was an adventure everyday! Haha! My question is about your sunscreen. Did you use the Supergoop you spoke about in your latest video on the cruise? Did it do well traveling? Do you have a favorite under makeup sunscreen? 💕
I did use it on the cruise-I sprayed it on everyone! We were pretty covered up most of the cruise though-it was cold! I'm testing out a new sunscreen from them that I just got this week-I'll update soon!

I use Baggalini purses all the time. I have tons. Love all the pockets.

Hello, how’re you doing?
These are great tips. I always like to hear people's versions of "if I did it again, here is what I'd do" to give the rest of us great ideas!

I want to take the Boston to Bermuda cruise! Loved this video!
I was in Alaska the same week you were! It was my honeymoon and we did a 12 night cruise/land tour. Totally worth it!!!! Denali was soooo beautiful!
People that live in PNW do not use umbrellas. They use waterproof shoes, boots, backpacks, purses, jackets, pants...whatever clothing needs.
I also live in the PNW - badge of honour, matter of pride - not to carry an umbrella 😂
Great tips!

Marnie Goldberg Update...Hubby took your advice and ordered walkie-talkies last night for our whole party.
Never been on a cruise but my husband and I are considering a Disney Cruise with our daughter next year. Havent decided where, yet!
After a previous video I now always take a power strip and extension cord and now I can see using your disinfecting wipes tips
Definitely do the land and cruise next time! An awesome trip!!
We are going in August for our 40th anniversary. I always cruise in the southern areas so this cruise will be a bit different. I think you'll do fine!
Hi Marnie!
Thanks for your tips. Did you wear thermals or long Johns under your clothes? What month did you cruise Alaska?
I'm watching this twice! It's just so good!! Not going anywhere, though!!
Another great cruise is Fall Foliage down the East Coast including Montreal, Quebec and Nova Scotia. This was very informative. Thank you. I'm glad that the most drama we had on one of our two Alaskan cruises was the ship running out of ketchup and trying to keep it on the down low😉
Now that's a cruise I would LOVE to take!!
They have app in most of the cruise ships you could use to text each other like Norwegian offers NCL app
100%/. we used it on Norwegian. life saver
Most cruise lines do not allow extension cords. They will confiscatet them and return them after the trip. Be very careful.
Hello, how’re you doing?
Loved your Sperry Duck boots. What style/color are those?
we are going in august...this helped so much!!
Can I go with you
Great tips for Alaska. On my bucket list.
We are going to Alaska next month on Holland America thanks for the walkie talkie tip that's a good one🤗🌞
Great info. Brilliant the walky talkies and the wipes. Super smart!! Glad you're all back safely!!
Which version of the Cobra Walkie-talkie do you recommend for use with2 people?
Thoroughly enjoyed every video about your trip.
Ooh-we want to do a river cruise once Shane leaves for college!
Thanks for the magnet tip😁👍and I always wanted to do a river cruise!!they look amazing
Thank u for all the info,,,,my tip is buy a Bagallini bag or Lesportsac bag, those bags are aaamazing, great for traveling.
My husband and I are going on the Norwegian Bliss to Alaska next August. Not having wifi is going to be hard!!
You can buy a package!
We’re going to be on the bliss in July! Looking forward to it
Ty for the tips . I'm hoping to go next year when my son graduates 🎓 high school.

I have seen that bagalani at TJ max.
Dawne Dever wow!!

Consider checking if your ship has an onboard coin laundry, many don't.
What it would be like in May.thank you for the tips of clothing.
Love your videos and LOVE that you give links to everything you mention! Thank you!!

Lug has great handbags like baggalini
Did you end up getting the Bagalini bag?? Review on it, if you did please.
Cruise Tips TV is a TH-cam channel, they have tons of great tips, videos and suggestions on cruising.
These were such great tips! Thank you!😀
Omg !!! I was on that cruise !!!!! I wish I would have seen you !
Me too!! Wasn't that the most surreal and sad cruise?!
Excellent tips ✅. Wow ...You did an excellent job on this video. I always enjoy your energy in your videos. Have a great and productive day. Hugs 🤗
Really great tips. I would love to have no wifi for seven days.
Two years ago my husband and I went to Alaska we LOVED it!!! We flew into Anchorage rented a car and spent 3 nights in Seward, 3 nights in Denali and 3 nights around Anchorage. It was amazing and we can't wait to go back. The one thing we didn't have was a really good camera I will have to check out the Canon you suggested.
hi thsnk you for s the information Im going ALASKA CRUISE FROMVANCOUVER FOR 7 DAYS MY QUESTION HOW COLD IT IS MONTH of AUGUST 28THTO SEPT.2019 7DAYS .
You’d have to Google that. I don’t have weather info for Alaska. 🤷🏼♀️
Great and useful tips thank you. My family and I are going to Alaska in june 2019 can't wait so trying to prepare. The walkytalky suggestions is awesome, along with several others you mentioned. The blow dryers example had me cracking up. Thanks for the video.
You're going to love it!

Everything. Where did you get the raincoat??? So cute!!
Great tips!
You and your family are lovely!
I love videos like this, as I am a traveler, but a TERRIBLE packer, LOL! I'm going to look into those sperry boots you bought, as I need a boot like that. Were they light weight? -Quincey
Hello, how’re you doing?
Thank you - very helpful!
I came back to watch the Alaska Cruise vlog before my cruise and it has been privated, but I understand! 😞
We made our reservation as soon as we got on board before we even unpacked!
Where and how did you pack your power strip and extension cords? I packed an iron in my suitcase and they took it, it was my first cruise. Didn't know you couldn't have an iron. That is a great ideal, but I don't want them to take them from my bag or suitcase.
Please tell me what bag you wish you had brought with you. You showed it briefly
I listed it in the description box-it's the GiGi Madison bag-love it!
Saw the picture of the sled dogs for the vid and turns out no sled dog pics. :(
There's sled dog video!
Thank you!!!
Great tips😊
Helpful video, except that everything you mentioned is high end and expensive and most people are just not that affluent, especially if you've saved up to even afford an Alaskan cruise. There are less expensive options for everything you listed. I mean $150 for a blowdryer???!
He marnie hubby and I have booked a cruise to Alaska for July 2019 we haven’t travelled overseas before but been on many island cruises we live in sydney and I’m a terrible packer so I have been watching you and crystal to get ideas lol I take my wardrobe as there is no baggage limit but now I’m flying I need to be good lol wish me luck 😊😊😊 thanks for all your tips we leave from Seattle then back to Seattle thanks again marnie to you and crystal xx I have watched you both for many years 💕💕
Cruising Carnival Legend in July 2019 as well.
You reminded me of all the reasons I dislike cruises or as we call them, a floating Motel 6, serving Las Vegas buffet food, stopping at swap meets.
some interesting points, but if you want to discover about best way to tips to save money on cruises try Debuncar Cruise Saver Aid (should be on google have a look)? our work buddy told me about it great
Marnie, love this video!
