@@nathanielhinz4946 Then it becomes SoT real fast. Multiplayer with player affected economy would be the way to do it. So you battle with cargo and speed instead some pirate fantasy.
Cargo space for days, endless customization, great looks, lots of mass, lots to keep you busy, no end of places to just chill and fish. The Brig does it all.
I actually liked the Junk better. Having all of the sheet winches right there in the bridge at a hand's reach and a sturdy wooden roof over the helm felt very reassuring.
Thanks for the mention! Also, you sheet in the jib using the sheet on the side the sail is on, i.e. on a port tack with the sails on the starboard side, use the starboard winch to sheet in.
It is also the way you compensate mainsail drift on the cog when the mainsail is catching the wind at an angle. On the issue of the brig heeling too much with strong winds, the dev has said that the mainsails and topgallants will be able to be furled and unfurled separately; so in the future we will be able to change the ammount (and position) of sheet on square sails. Now just to hope the junk sails get changed to the correct getting furled down and beeing raise to the top (reverse of what we have now), should help with the kakam and junk heeling
The different stoves all have different attributes, including their weight and heat. The Aestrin stove gets the hottest, the Al'Ankh is the heaviest, the Emerald stove is the lightest, and is a close second for heat.
The Brig seems to be difficult to handle well at first glance. Haven't tried this one for the moment, my little Junk keeps me busy. Maybe I'll keep her for the days I will allowed to do Chronos missions :)
I bought it on Steam last week but am already a bit fed up with it because sometimes the wind direction is pinning my ship against the dock which means I can't get away from the dock after unmooring (sniffle) PS- where's the Brig? I don't seem to have one in my game!
The Brig should be available at Fort Aestrin. Being pinned to the dock is one of the issues that real sailors had to deal with. I usually solve it by making sure I park in an orientation that is easy to depart from to begin with, which sometimes means sailing around 180 degrees or other approach maneuvers.
i kind of agree. we need kedge anchors to help with close quarters maneuvers. or maybe a sculling oar for smaller ships, or a barge pole to use to push off from the dock.
nice relaxing video series. But honestly, doesn't it look stupid when one person has to steer such a big ship alone? Can't imagine this game being suitable for VR because when I play Sailwind I don't want to put some tech crap on my head and I can't find my beer either. I can imagine that the developers just can't program the coop mode, but others can do it too. So cheers!
This game could benefit from Multiplayer - but network code is fiddly at best, especially when Physics are involved. It appears that multiplayer is on the road-map for 2023, I just have to remember that we are in the very early stage of Early Access with this title.
Generally, the only time I lock my helm is when I'm in a turn of some kind and need to move sails. Once I've got the helm neutral with the Jib and Spanker, I don't lock it. I might adjust it a bit, but leave it unlocked.
I anticipate this isn't the direction this game is going. But there are some great pirate simulation games out there, namely Sea of Thieves, and a new one on the horizon called Skull and Bones.
The game looks cool, but I think it is locked in the forever Early Access mode. Not much update last year (Today is november 2024). I would be interested to know if you guys who are playing still think that it is worth a buy.
That ship would be sooo good if you could have one or two friends helping out.
I agree, multiplayer with this and maybe some PVE You can toggle on/off. Then we're talking.

Ya this ship looks amazing but really hard to manage solo

this game absolutely needs coop multiplayer lol
I actually liked the Junk better. Having all of the sheet winches right there in the bridge at a hand's reach and a sturdy wooden roof over the helm felt very reassuring.
This game looks so cool! I love sailing/trading games
I was anticipating this video! Loved your episode with the sambuq!
Yup, just completed my first leg with the brig. So much fun. Thanks!
Loving your content!
From commentary to edition!
I'm so happy that the brig gets two episodes!
The Brig is simply too massive to fit into a single episode!
Thanks for the mention!
Also, you sheet in the jib using the sheet on the side the sail is on, i.e. on a port tack with the sails on the starboard side, use the starboard winch to sheet in.
That's a fantastic bit of knowledge!
@@SimGamerTV Thanks! I'm an assistant instructor at my local sailing club, so I know a thing or two 😂
To compensate the turning force of the spanker, you could have tightened the jib to make it have more turning force on the bow
Thanks for the tip!

I'm going to steal that info for a guide at some point!
The Al'Ankh stove holds 4 fish, all others only 3.
I'm loving these videos
Cargo for Happy Bay- a dragon's hoard. Cargo for Dragon Cliffs- beach party cookout!
The wheel is called the helm.
mmmm my brig just roll on a side ahah
Glad you don't have to bail

It's harder at first but when you get a hang of it it's much better. I find better angles into the wind more cargo space and more cabin space.
It's not a steering wheel it is called the helm. Great video's but you are making me scared to play. I am going to starve alone at sea lol.
Another fun video, thanks. Is Sailwinds worthwhile if I don't know my way around a sailing ship?
I think so. Sailwind will definitely teach you what to do, and I have no RL sailing experience myself.
@@SimGamerTV You were right, it's a ton of fun.
On this save that you managed to get enough money to buy all of this, what starter boat did you use
On this save, I started with the Dhow, and just did local sailing until I could afford the Sanbuq and supplies.
Do a let's play of this again! This game has very little content on TH-cam and I like your commentary
I plan to! I see you, the latest patch notes... Sanbuq customization yum!
I think you need a crew for that.
How did you get the hold of the brig to look like that? Specifically with the "shelves" in the middle hold. Was it removed in an update?

I think a somewhat simplified AI crew would do the job just fine here.
Why do you keep locking your helm
Generally, the only time I lock my helm is when I'm in a turn of some kind and need to move sails. Once I've got the helm neutral with the Jib and Spanker, I don't lock it. I might adjust it a bit, but leave it unlocked.
Can you download this game?
This game is currently available via Steam Early Access. Here's the link: store.steampowered.com/app/1764530/Sailwind/
i really want there to be some type of ai crew and combat like pirates or the ability to be a pirate
I anticipate this isn't the direction this game is going. But there are some great pirate simulation games out there, namely Sea of Thieves, and a new one on the horizon called Skull and Bones.
Combat would ruin this great chill game.
