Thanks for all of your hard work! I was running Hyprland in Fedora for several months with a few configuration changes, but nothing too fancy. Made the leap to your configuration on Arch and I'm satisfied so far. Took a little work to get qemu/virt-manager working, but that's just me using Arch for the first time.
@mylinuxforwork btw, do you think this script would work on voidlinux musl? I’ve been thinking on switching to void but now with ml4w I can’t 🥲🤣 also i saw that now is available on fedora, amazing man!
Thank you for your work after all these years i finally have a decent hyprland+nvidia+wayland setup that I can actually use and play in there ( I used the beta Nvidia one and so far so good) Right now the only issue is that I have its the workspaces and waybar that someone doesnt show a number like 1 or its designated to my other monitor, I will hope i can fix it and have 1 to 3 on each monitor

Im kinda new to Arch Linux and wanted to try out your dotfiles, just finished installing it on my thinkpad t480, but Im getting stuck on the user login interface, after i put the passwd and press enter, the cursor disappears and the interface freezes, Im using the sddm display manager, does grub have conflict with it? also on the botton left it says "hyprland (systemd session)" instead of just hyprland like yours

Has a issue on music, text, video and image files do not open in the default applications and a window always appears to define the file to the application, some applications hyprland recognizes and others say it is not installed as in the case of smplayer, strawberry and clementine. Open videos on smplayer crash they and hyprland waybar. Also has a issue on screen resolution using HDMI, you be forced to unplug and plug again to resolution works.
please use more bin packages, for example bibata-cursor-theme takes really long to build and a -bin version is provided (also whenever i update my dotfiles it will also update my cursor theme and gtk theme, and i will have to reset them
after this last update mz kezboard has i think zour language and mz kezs are all messed up. How do i change the language of the kez board to english us

I'm learning git and markdown; to take notes and create and understand repositories. I understand that we can commit, modify and stage code and changes to programs, OS's, etc. But I don't know how to do it yet. I really want to track changes I'm making to my operating system, so i can understand what i'm really doing on a fundamental level; over the long term. My goal is to build my own distro that is riced, stable and reproducible. I plan to contribute to other projects, get to know the community and learn. Your video's have helped me pick a starting point which is Linux System Administration. Then once I have that as a foundation; I will branch out learning skills that will help me become a well rounded generalist with a focus on programming and Sys Admin. Thanks again!
I 100% understand if it'd be too much work but I'd heavily appreciate a version of these dotfiles for NixOS. I still run Arch on my laptop, but I've been slowly configuring NixOS with flakes and home-manager on my desktop, and some parts of the Nix configuration philosophy have been kinda tiring to figure out for Hyprland in particular (Nvidia+Wayland quirks for the most part.) Totally fine if it wouldn't be realistic, but I feel like the in-depth config system of your ML4W dotfiles would work really well with the Nix philosophy.

I don't know if it's a ml4w problem or a hyprland problem But I can't copy something from a different app and paste it on Vscode it's very weird i can copy from my browser and paste it on the terminal and I can copy from Vscode and paste it on my browser but I can not copy from my browser or any app and paste it on Vscode.Also how can I have multiple keyboard layouts greek and English and change it with ctrl alt?
There is something in the config that prevents vivaldi from running properly. On a standard hyprland install, I have not not noticed any visual glitches.
I've used your dotfiles for quite a long time. Thank you for your work and effort. I have a question for you, I have two monitors and set my workspaces 1 to 5 to my main monitor and 6 to 10 to second monitor, but on my main monitor the waybar shows current workspace and 6-7-8-9-10 and on my second monitor it's showing 1-2-3-4-5 workspaces I want it to show the workspaces bonded to my monitors. Do you have an idea why it's doing this?

After last update 2.9.6.6 day and time button when clicking on it doesn't expand to the month and it was so nice option with sidebar button behavior, right click open ML4W Welcome, left click was open menu for different configuration options. @@SOHOLAB Thank you so much. The sidebar an calendar is based on ags and ags has changed the code base completely this week to ags v2. It isn’t backward compatible. I will release hopefully tomorrow 2.9.6.7 that brings ags v1 back until I have port everything to v2. Stay tuned.

@@mylinuxforwork For some reason that did not work on my end. Pywalfox acted like it installed but didn't. With chromium and brave when i would select them it says installing and then just sits there with a blinking cursor. After waiting several minutes and trying a few times i just gave up and did it all manually. Everything else in the installation options worked fine though. Maybe this is a bug only i experienced? (I am using lts kernal) idk Either way thanks for the response.

The main release of Hyprland is currently not working on VMs. Please try to install hyprland-git. As far as I know, the issue has been fixed in the latrst main branch. But I haven’t tested it yet.
After installing this and on login the wallpaper and waybar is not loaded and on clicking or opening hyprpaper it's not working what should I do I am using Garuda linux based on arch

I love the dot files, but when I updated it, it messed with my keybinds swapping my z and y keys as well as changing others. Any ideas of how to fix this?
Firstly I want to thank you for your work, and I want to ask you something. I have a laptop that dual boot with windows and hyprland for testing hyprland. I am thinking about use arch linux hyprland for my daily OS. I have this problem that makes me cold to the hyprland, my external monitor is laggy and low performance, I fount out that the external monitor is working on my İntegrated GPU. When I set this to Dedicated GPU (RTX 3060), the external monitor is working fine but my internal laptop monitor is turning black screen. Is there any way to work these two monitors fine like windows does?
You should really make this for Fedora, i don't want to use the older Fedora-script for this, because it does not give you all this extra nice stuff. And it will probably break a lot of things. Again, thanks for the hard work man!

How do you change the wallpaper. Does it happens also after a restart? Have you installed the xdg-desktop portal? I suggest that you open an issue on GitHub.
Looks really amazing. But I can't use it, because after installation, when I write pass to login menu laptop freezing. Help only restart. But when I change to the base Hyprland environment and log in, everything works well. I also installed nvidia drivers and it didn't help.
@mylinuxforwork in left bottom corner I have the gear, when I click on her I have one more choice for environment. First your with the name "Hyprland (systemd session)" and second "Hyprland". The second variant started normally. But it is clean. But I installed all dotfiles from yay and all work well. Strange, but when I was installing from Paru , I had errors with package "Astal.." or sth like that. With installation from yay, I hadn't this error.

I installed your hyprland configuration, and I wanted to ask you how I can set the external monitor as the only working environment. I tried to configure with xrandr but it always gives me an error. Maybe I can go and modify some config file?
You can create your own monitor configuration (and it is suggested) and use hyprland monitor configuration guide to change to your liking As example you can tell to hyprland to disable a monitor

My hyprland doesn't start after applying this sddm theme, I updated and before I had no sddm theme installed. I can start hyprland from console, any tips? I appreciate the work👍
Not sure if this will work, i had the same problem and then i installed the oh-my-posh thingie (not sure if needed but i had an error in the up-left corner of the terminal saying its missing) and in the sddm log in menu i choose hyprland and not hyprland sistemd session. Hope that helps
I am currently playing around with hyprdots for my academic workflow (zotero and whatnot). It works great but consume too much gpu and virtually unusable on battery. Does hyprland4work consume a lot of battery just like hyprdots?
@kud3n013 I've been using Stephan's dotfiles for about a month on my low spec laptop with Core Ultra 5 and no dedicated GPU (although am not full time in it, cause I dual boot with other Linux with a full DE) and everything is super smooth, no lag or battery drain. In my experience the battery consumption is pretty much the same if not better than arch with KDE Plasma. But 1 thing to note is that I installed it on top of bare Arch with no DE just like how Stephan always shows on this channel. If you install it alongside another DE I'm sure that'd be another story.
I've used (an albeit older version of) the ML4W dotfiles for close to a year on my mid-range laptop. No battery issues to speak of, it's worked perfectly for me.
When I press SUPER+Q, the kitty terminal flies to the corner and disappears, and I can't do anything else but exit from hyprland (I'm installing on Arch Linux VMware)

Some of your issues are due to the ags update to 2.0. Please update your dotfiles to 2.9.6.7 or try out the latest rolling release github.com/mylinuxforwork/dotfiles/wiki/Installation-2.9.7
It due to the ags update. Codebase has changed completely and isn’t backward compatible. Will replace it with the welcome app as long as the development is ongoing.
@@mylinuxforwork Another question though-how can I ensure the Hyprland desktop portal loads instead of the KDE desktop portal? I sometimes have this issue; I can manage to deactivate it and use the Hyprland desktop portal manually, but I can't automate it. Where can I edit that configuration?

For now I recommend not updating ags anymore, with the new updates everything has changed and the docks no longer work. At least on arch. I want to redo the dock but I need to read the new documentation.

@@mylinuxforwork I have nothing specific on mind just whole bar from left to right without transparent breaks between modules. It would be nice to have some alternatives to your default bar not only colors to choose.

Before entering you password, you can switch to Hyprland by clicking on the gears Icon. That setting remains even after reboot.

Not tested on Void. Is it Arch or Fedora based, then it should work.
Another question, i store memos on my desktop occasionally. How can i make a folder or file available on my wallpaper area on the desktop?
No. Folders are not supported on the desktop. I would suggest a favorite pinned folder on Nautilus.

Please update the Dotfiles to 2.9.6.6. This will remove the error messages. Please also check github.com/mylinuxforwork/dotfiles/wiki/Troubleshooting

Never tried vivaldi. Maybe a wayland or ozone environment variable. You can open an issue on GitHub and we can test together.

You can open the Welcome App and click on the installation options button. This offers you several additional packages including pywalfox, brave etc.

Can you try super+shift+w. This should refresh your wallpaper. Is waypaper installed?

Please update to 2.9.6.7 and (if on hardware) make sure that all packages are updated.

It’s important that you restore your keyboard setup during the update. But you can change the keyboard manually in .config/hypr/conf/keyboard.conf

Is there any way to work these two monitors fine like windows does?
You should really make this for Fedora, i don't want to use the older Fedora-script for this, because it does not give you all this extra nice stuff. And it will probably break a lot of things.

hi Stephan, thank you for all these videos, I am really glad found that. I 've been trying to replicate that in a virtual box machine with ArchLinux, but it seems that I cannot have it running for some reason, have you tried it in VB machine with latest ArchLinux and HyprLand?

When I change my wallpaper, swaybar just disappears and I have to manually turn it off and on again for it to show.... How do I fix this?
How do you change the wallpaper. Does it happens also after a restart? Have you installed the xdg-desktop portal? I suggest that you open an issue on GitHub.

But I can't use it, because after installation, when I write pass to login menu laptop freezing. Help only restart.
But when I change to the base Hyprland environment and log in, everything works well.
I also installed nvidia drivers and it didn't help.

@mylinuxforwork in left bottom corner I have the gear, when I click on her I have one more choice for environment. First your with the name "Hyprland (systemd session)" and second "Hyprland". The second variant started normally. But it is clean. But I installed all dotfiles from yay and all work well.
Strange, but when I was installing from Paru , I had errors with package "Astal.." or sth like that. With installation from yay, I hadn't this error.
My problem is the keyboard layout is changed to qwertz and damn I cant change it back (after fighting for 6 hours im calling quits)

I installed your hyprland configuration, and I wanted to ask you how I can set the external monitor as the only working environment. I tried to configure with xrandr but it always gives me an error. Maybe I can go and modify some config file?
You can create your own monitor configuration (and it is suggested) and use hyprland monitor configuration guide to change to your liking
As example you can tell to hyprland to disable a monitor

It is still an appimage but without ending to make it easier to execute. And the apps are based on python with GTK4.

My hyprland doesn't start after applying this sddm theme, I updated and before I had no sddm theme installed. I can start hyprland from console, any tips? I appreciate the work👍
You can uninstall the theme github.com/mylinuxforwork/dotfiles/wiki/Troubleshooting#issues-with-sddm-sequoia-theme and try SDDM without it.
Not sure if this will work, i had the same problem and then i installed the oh-my-posh thingie (not sure if needed but i had an error in the up-left corner of the terminal saying its missing) and in the sddm log in menu i choose hyprland and not hyprland sistemd session. Hope that helps
I am currently playing around with hyprdots for my academic workflow (zotero and whatnot). It works great but consume too much gpu and virtually unusable on battery. Does hyprland4work consume a lot of battery just like hyprdots?
This is something that you have to try out. Haven’t compared it with other dotfiles yet.

I've been using Stephan's dotfiles for about a month on my low spec laptop with Core Ultra 5 and no dedicated GPU (although am not full time in it, cause I dual boot with other Linux with a full DE) and everything is super smooth, no lag or battery drain. In my experience the battery consumption is pretty much the same if not better than arch with KDE Plasma.
But 1 thing to note is that I installed it on top of bare Arch with no DE just like how Stephan always shows on this channel. If you install it alongside another DE I'm sure that'd be another story.

I've used (an albeit older version of) the ML4W dotfiles for close to a year on my mid-range laptop. No battery issues to speak of, it's worked perfectly for me.

When I press SUPER+Q, the kitty terminal flies to the corner and disappears, and I can't do anything else but exit from hyprland (I'm installing on Arch Linux VMware)
super+q is kill active window, terminal is super+enter

best configuration, I'm using it. Just an addendum, sidebar has a bug and isn't opening.
It due to the ags update. Codebase has changed completely and isn’t backward compatible. Will replace it with the welcome app as long as the development is ongoing.

For now I recommend not updating ags anymore, with the new updates everything has changed and the docks no longer work. At least on arch. I want to redo the dock but I need to read the new documentation.
Which dock do you mean? With 2.9.6.7 it supports ags v2 for sidebar and calendar.

I don't like all top bar themes. For me looks bad. I don't like the transparent gaps between the modules.

It is very difficult to understand the configuration. It is not clear where and how to customize it for yourself.

The best position to do your own changes is in the custom.conf since it does not get overridden on update
