I can answer question about why his gi is textured and his pants are not. A lot of martial arts gis are made out of a cotton weave and each one has a particular design, and the pants are usually not made out of the same type of weave as the kimono top. Gi pants usually have the same look as jeans, smooth texture.
This makes me look forward to Anthony's review of the JADA toys Ryu. I hope they correct all the mistakes the SHF figure made. I like how Anthony stream lined his photos into the outro.

I'm not saying your wrong by any means I'm just trying to figure if it's officially SF5 figure or not. It wasn't supposed to be, and I think it looks like SF3 just fine. What do you think?

The more I look at him, I think I wish his arms were a little thicker, more so than the chest. Either way, thanks for the side by side comparisons, even with the obvious height differences, its hard to get a feel for how much mass a figure has compared to another and how the proportions compare to other lines. I think a prefer the DBZ and more domestic style bicep/shoulder swivel instead of the elbow or in the shoulder hinge.
I agree with Anthony, neither the SHF or the SC one completely capture Ryu's face (people saying the SC does never actually saw a close-up of SFV Ryu...I want to believe), but imo SHF's Ryu does a much better job at capturing the essence of the character across many entries in the SF saga, not to mention he's much more posable...even in poses both products can achieve, he looks more organic. Having said that, it's a solid 4/5 for me and it can be improved upon future releases...I think SHF Chun Li is even more impressive and I'm looking forward to Anthony's review....though I think he will (rightfully so) mention her face is once again not capturing SFV's aesthetic but a more generic one.

The only worry I have is that they'll give up halfway and we'll end up with a tattered lineup missing some key figures like Bison and Ken. (I know they're going to release Rashid instead).
I’m curious to see if the sh figuarts Beast Gohan figure will use the same engineering for the torso and hip movements as this Ryu, as well as what your review of that figure will be like. If you see this comment, would be cool to make the comparison between the Ryu and Beast Gohan if you do review that figure of course. I’m looking forward to getting the Beast Gohan, just nervous about the torso articulation 😅

Good review and thumbs up for me but i like the storm collectables version way better.. Maybe its because i havent seen this one in hand idk.. The gritty battle worn Ryu is my favorite other than how he holds the hadoken.. I hope storm makes a Chun Li.. I dont mind the scale difference..
I'd like to make a correction here. The Storm figure is digitally sculpted too. Check out Geng Gi, he's the sculptor. Also his version was amazing but Storm messed up the eyebrows completely
AnthonysCustoms well the prototype displayed at the 2016 sdcc or something was exactly Geng Gi's sculpt. There is quite a difference between the final product and that, mainly the eyes and definition on the muscles. The gi as well was changed a bit. The prototype was perfect :/
Hey Anthony, are you aware of any Ryu figures that are more looking like Ryu from things like Street Fighter Alpha? I like the younger, a little thinner look to Ryu vs. this new look and him and SF4.
I really hope that if SH Figuarts ever do make a Fat Buu figure, my only big want left for the Dragon Ball stuff, that they incorporate those new hips to his huge puffy white pants. To me that seems like it could potentially solve the issue of his design being traditionally limiting in terms of potential articulation.
11:17 i think it's because that SSJ4 Goku is a model kit, you assemble (if that's the right word) it yourself, while that Ryu is, well, he's a figure....action figure. so it's different. ow, and 1 more think about difference between figure and model kit, figure, like other stuffs, other things, always Made In China, while model kit, is Made In Japan....

I think this is perfect for a Marvel vs Capcom display. Especially since Ryu is only like 5'9 and most Marvel guys are like 6'2.

the ball pegs on both arms of my figure is super tight even if I use wd40. any advice to make it loose without breaking it?

That's not the actual model they used. It was a guide.
