What I could never understand as far as the main plot goes is that how could Anakin be so blind and stupid to not realize that upon learning Palpatine was the Sith Lord they were looking for, it also meant that he was behind the assassination attempts on Padme over the years. I know it’s plot armor but damn, kids half his age would’ve figured that out.

As for his dreams, Anakin can see visions of the future, that how he knew his mother was in danger and why he believed that Padme would die.
This is the most realistic "what if" scenario, it's logical that Anakin will console with Padme since Obi-Wan and Yoda are away and he didn't have the best relationship with Mace Windu.
I was always under the impression that Anakin was exempt from Order 66, since Palpatine always intended for Anakin to join him. I recall the time when Tup's chip was acting up, and he saw Anakin, but did nothing, but then saw the other Jedi Master and lunged at her.
I thought the Inquisitors Ahsoka fought two of them saving Ezra & Kanan at the beginning of season 2 and also the inquisitor Maul killed when he tried to get Ezra to execute the inquisitor (which with her skin tone and face markings where identical to Barriss but her skin began to change a bit white from the dark side eating at her body but not as extreme as Sidious or Vader who are full fledged Sith Lords.
What if Anakin spoke to Obi-Wan instead of Windu? Perhaps he kills Grevious early enough to speak with Anakin. We all know Obi-Wan's allegiance is to The Republic (To democracy!), but would his words be enough to keep Anakin on the path of the light, or would Obi-Wan be too late to stop what was to come?

Now hear me out, in Legends Cotinunity, the Jedi Sentinels were Jedi who supplemented their abilities in combat and the Force with external capabilities, and allowed them to become better acquainted with the people, better help them. Not only that, Anakin has excellent skills with machines, and I don't think it would be too far of a stretch for him to become a Jedi Sentinel instead of a Guardian, which is what he canonically is. The specific specializations of a Sentinel I could see Anakin choosing would between an Artisan (which specialize in the use of tools and machines), or a Jedi Shadow (Who specialize in hunting Dark Siders, eraticating the Dark Side, and even have the authorization to use certain Dark Side Powers, albeit following special rules and judiciously choosing the light while wielding the Darkness)
Here's an idea. What if Obi-Wan joined Dooku during Attack of the Clones BUT did so while staying true to the Jedi code and teachings? I've seen someone cover this before, but as a Peggy Sue (character travels back in time to an earlier point in their life) fic that's since been semi-abandoned.

The Jedi already had a hardline stance of "darksiders are always lying bastards" and on top of that Dooku was a traitor to the republic. At the time, the only reason Obi-Wan had to even consider that what Dooku said was true was second-hand knowledge of Dooku's character from Qui-Gon. This actually makes that scene an interesting point to diverge from canon, as it really could go either way. Obi-Wan's training and allegiance to the republic is basically telling him to ignore the traitor but his trust in Qui-Gon tells him to listen. One slightly different word from Dooku or even just a slight change to previous events to make Obi-Wan a bit more questioning of the Jedi Council could easily have resulted in Obi-Wan leaving the Jedi order and turning separatist - but not turning dark.
He was defeated by ambush I am personally skeptical that Palpatine would have any ability with a lightsaber considering he has very little actually combat experience
The question this gives me is what happens to Ahsoka Tano. Does Ahsoka Tano still survive and does she join up with Anakin Skywalker, Yoda, Obi-Wan Kenobi, Padme Amidala, Luke Skywalker and Leia Skywalker, and the rest of the new Jedi Order on Achto?
One of the main reasons Ahsoka was able to survive Order 66 was that she sensed Anakin's fall to the dark side. This put her on alert, so when the clones turned on her, she was ready to defend herself. No other Jedi had that advantage. In this story, she would have been caught off-guard like so many others, and I'm not convinced she would have survived.
I love to imagine Sidious always had a backup contigency in case Anakin didn't join or in the circumstance of his death. He had decades to instill powers, it would probably centuries for the damage he caused to be fix.
To this day I still don't get how Anakin fell for the "dying in childbirth" thing. Padme was a wealthy political elite living on the capital world of the Republic. Medical technology in the galaxy is so advanced that they could scoop out Grievous's guts and brains and stick them in a cyborg body! If Anakin had seriously compared notes with Padme, he might have realized that her death would not be due to natural causes. *Something* was going to happen to her that would cause her death. Then, based on what he and Padme knew from previous events, it would become clear that Palpatine had ordered the previous assassination attempts against Padme. Palapatine wasn't promising to help him save Padme with esoteric Force powers. He was basically promising (but lying) that he would not have Padme killed if Anakin cooperated. Padme, having none of this, would alert her fellow Senators of the Delegation of 2000 that Palpatine was a Sith Lord running a massive false flag operation in order to convince the Senate to give him dictatorial powers. The resulting uproar would force Palpatine to try to overthrow the Senate quickly lest they vote to remove him. But this would prove that the Jedi were telling the truth and the Senators, along with the systems that they represented, could move to use non-clone personnel to seize command of Republic fleet assets, as the commanders of these of these ships were not clones. Instead a Republic unified in backing him, Palpatine would find himself in a chaotic situation. The Separatist leadership was in disarray with the loss of Dooku and Grievous. Palaptine, now viewed with suspicion, would have a hard time sending communications from Coruscant unmonitored. Backed into a corner, he could no longer hide his powers, thus proving that he was a Sith Lord.
I had never really thought of it like that before. I doubt they could have removed all deaths by child birth if done naturally, but if he was so scared he could have insisted on a c section that I would have no doubt they had the technology to do without any risk whatsoever apart from human error or machine malfunction.
@@kylerowley8248 - Like I said, given what they did to Grievous, getting a couple of babies out Padme's uterus should have been extremely simple on a planet like Coruscant. I'm sure that women die in childbirth on Tatooine all the time. So Anakin would be familiar with that concept. But if he weren't so headstrong he would have understood why Padme didn't believe his nightmare. Rich political elites on Coruscant don't die from complications of childbirth. That Obi-Wan was in his vision, to me, implied that Padme had suffered some injury, possibly due to combat, and so the *real* concern was focusing on her safety overall, not just during the delivery.

Almost no man could resist Sidious if he had devoted so much attention to manipulating him over the course of his entire life. Anakin was set an all but impossible task, and he failed, but tried very hard not to. Anakin was a very great man, just not among the greatest few who could have succeeded.

Especially as a Dark Jedi, Anakin's reaction to Palpatine's admission that he had been lying should have been to finish what Mace Windu started and leaving Palpatine's headless corpse on the office carpet. Instead he just became a slave, again. The sad truth is that he was weak. He never escaped his slave mentality. Even as Darth Vader he was a follower, only leading those he could bully. But still, ultimately, a slave.

Its a matter of ideology, Anakin watched as the flaws of the republic and democracy were twisted and manipulated by the powerful. Yes it was sparked and spearheaded by the sith, but it was an old republic that was failing anyway and it could have eventualy happened without sith aid. The clone wars made the jedi into hypocritical warriors and politicians but their morals still wouldn't let them go far enough to finish the war swiftly. The jedi order was just as weak as the republic in their current state. Palpatine offered imperial authority. Sure, a good chunk of the population would get fucked over, but in time he could overthrow the emperor and rule with padme trying to make the world a bettter place for everyone gradualy using his new ultimate power. It was only after padme died that anakin "died" as well and truly became darth vader with no thoughts for anyone but himself. You are entirely right about him being born a slave greatly weakening his resolve, but that was the point. Once, when I was watching the movies I thought that maybe sidious was sending him the dreams so I looked into it and in the comics (probrably not canon anymore) sidious did send the dreams and even impregnated his mother through the force. Palpatine wanted anakin to be born a slave for that reason. Thats why I think he never stood a chance. Anakin was being manipulated before he was even born.

An interesting what if, but I feel Palpatine would still have some kind of ace up his sleeve if he was exposed. Considering how he had unlimited resources at his disposal, he could easily have had a secret army blend in with the various senators and guards to spring into action to seize the senate by force, along with already trained inquisitors. The entire senate building would go into lockdown with everyone inside killed to keep his identity a secret so he could pin it on the Jedi. Hell, for all we know he could have the building set to detonate at a single command when it was built.
What if the Jedi Temple is a mobile fortress. Ever since the first Sith invasion of Coruscant and repeated direct attack by the Sith, the militaristic Jedi Council at the time had to face the prospect of the Jedi Temple being a fixed target for an orbital bombardment by the Sith Empire, Eternal Empire, and even the Rakatan Empire ships. So the Jedi Temple had been rebuilt from the top to have the latest technological upgrades like regular shields and weapons while it also expanded downwards below the bedrock too. Thousands of years before, during the previous Sith Wars, the Jedi Temple wasn't just a learning institution, it was also the military headquarters of the Jedi forces and even the Republic's military. So during the thousands of years, the Jedi Temple had been upgraded to withstand attacks from fleet of ships in orbit as well as inside the atmosphere as well as ground invasions by Sith warriors&their battledroids too. Having studied the Tho Yor and understanding how it operates with its technological equivalent, the Jedi Temple had been rebuilt based on the design of the Tho Yor but supersized. The visible Jedi Temple is actually the tip of a very massive underground pyramid/diamond. The entire structure is actually over some dozen kilometer square, 6x6km wide footprint diamond on its base. Similar to the NightSisters' Astrometric Temple, the Jedi Temple has multiple chambers of focusing crystals that's highly protected even from betrayal within as that's how the Sith typically attacks the Jedi Temple in previous invasions. The chambers can operate like a ships' astrometrics, power amplifier for weapons like Force Lightnings&Push/Pull, FTL, battle meditation. The Jedi Praxeum ships like the Chu'unthor is based on the Jedi Temples facilities. It even has a Kwa Infinity Gate and Gree Hypergate stored inside it. As it started lifting off Coruscant's surface to rise into orbit, its massive underground footprint is now lifting the cityscape's surrounding it too. There were still Republic ships that were still approaching&attacking the massive diamond megalithic stone structure but it's powerful shields is strong enough to survive a fleet of ships' orbital bombardment. Once it's in orbit, it was able to fire its conventional weapons like batteries of minor superlasers in each of the diamond's faces, edges&bases to ensure that its weapons entirely covers the space around it. So when the Separatists attacked Coruscant and kidnapped the Chancellor, the Jedi Temple was put on high alert but it wasn't fully active since it wasn't directly attacked by ships in orbit but by battledroids on the ground. It did activate its very powerful shields and used its conventional weapons but its Force powered weapons&defenses were prepared and put on standby. Since the target was actually Palpatine, the Jedi Temple didn't need to leave Coruscant. Only the Jedi GrandMaster&BattleMaster is aware of the secret functionality of the hidden chambers below the temple and since the Separatist invasion of Coruscant, the Jedi Masters that's needed to operate the various chambers had been put on standby alert especially as the clone wars nears its end. When Master Mace Windu left to confront Palpatine, he got Master Sindralic to fully activate the Jedi Temple's defenses&evacuation protocols in case they fail to arrest Palpatine&the worst happens in which Palpatine orders an orbital bombardment or a purge of the Jedi Temple. When Anakin led the attack on the Jedi Temple, he doesn't know the temple's entire defenses. The trusted Jedi Masters that's in the hidden chambers are fully aware of what's happening around the temple and they activated the anti-personnel ground defenses outside&within the temple's perimeters. As from previous Sith invasions, the bunkered Jedi Masters were on a lookout for internal traitors as they're expecting it before the enemy troops would attack the temple and they found the future Sith Inquisitor temple guard. His entire area was stunned which includes his members of his team and then he was imprisoned quickly in carbonite. Anakin&the 501st didn't stand a chance and never even got near to the entrance since the anti-personnel ground defenses were designed to destroy battle droids&sith warriors. The clones were wiped out and Anakin retreated as he was the only one to escape. He didn't know about the temple's ground defenses since he&ObiWan was in orbit fighting against the Separatists fleet. So when several Venators descended into the atmosphere to directly attack the Jedi Temple, Anakin saw the hidden defenses of the temple as its powerful shields endured the turbolaser fires from the Venators. The temple then revealed its hidden turbolaser turrets and returned fire against the Venators and then up into orbits with Venator ships moving into orbital bombardment positions above the temple. The shields looked pyramid shaped which greatly reduced the damage that the temple shields had to endure. As for why the temple can't shoot at the Republic Senate building, the previous Senate only approved the Jedi Temple's upgrades as long as it's pointed upwards and not at the buildings around it. What the previous Jedi Council didn't inform the Senate was that the Jedi Temple is mobile and can actually rise into orbit and leave Coruscant.

Now hear me out, in Legends Continuity, Jedi Sentinels are Jedi who balance out the usage of Physical Abilities and Force Attunment, all the while supplementing it with external abilities. One of these abilities was the use of Machines. Anakin already has this skill set, so why not dive in fully and do a what-if where, instead of a Guardian, as he is in canon, make him a sentinel who specializes in machinery and hacking?
Palpatine could have used the force to directly control the clones and Senators around him, therefore the evidence wouldn't matter unless the jedi would manage to bring ysalamiri into the senate, in which case they would have had the least spectacular lightsaber fight since the invention of the lightsaber.
“His fate will be the same as our’s” No. No! Tyrannus dropped a chunk of ship decking on him! He could not do better. Obi-Wan’s death right then & there. Sidious & Anakin leave and forget R2. Padme knows something’s up when R2 is missing & Anakin is ambivalent.

What if the Jedi council took the news of the smiths return in the phantom menace. The Jedi council sent Dooku and obi wan to take back Naboo while Qui Gon started Anakin’s training secretively. Maull killed Dooku and obi wan survived.
What if Sabine was stronger in the Force and was discovered during the Clone Wars? What if Luke went to Alderaan and Leia to Tatooine? What if Leia had been elected chancellor instead of forced to create the resistance?
What if after Anakin saved Luke from Palpatine at the end of Return of the Jedi it was Luke who died from his injuries while Anakin was the one who survived?
The Chancellor’s podium would have the ability to suppress any in the chamber …..the coruscant guard would have relentlessly attacked them unless Order 66 was rescinded.
I'm sorry, just no. There is no way Windu would fall that quickly or even at all against Palaptine. And he wouldn't be caught off guard. In Revenge if the sith it was Windu who sensed the Dark side surrounding palpatine and it was Windu who sensed a plot to destroy the Jedi. As soon as palpatine drew a lightsaber Windu would be ready to go. And they expected a fight hence why 4 masters go to arrest him
Story could still work because Palpatine was just talking out his ass with the whole save Padmé thing. Could've just as easily promised Anakin to bring her back from the dead and if he believes it he'd do anything to have her back. Even if he's already begun to heal from the loss he'd jump at the chance to have that power in order to get her back. And potentially his mother as well. So even if she died earlier from something completely unrelated to Palpatine or the war Anakin would still take the bait. The only thing that could've stopped him was being made master. If he could access the archives completely he'd know that it wasn't possible. Since the Jedi had documented most of the sith abilities as well as their own for well over a thousand years.
I have read every, and I mean EVERY Star Wars book (except young adult and children's). We used to have to wait YEARS to find out what Thrawn, or the Vong, or Jacen, or Anakin (you know Han and Leia's youngest, never mind Disney said they dont exist). You would have been Celebrated by the fans at Comicon.
I really enjoy the stories you write, I only have one question why do you always make Sidious so over powerful? He truly wasn't magnificent as you write him to be. And you tend to depower Yoda by an obscene amount!

Mace was caught off guard which can catch even the best of them. Remember, when he knew in cannon, three Jedi around him were still killed.

Medical technology in the galaxy is so advanced that they could scoop out Grievous's guts and brains and stick them in a cyborg body! If Anakin had seriously compared notes with Padme, he might have realized that her death would not be due to natural causes. *Something* was going to happen to her that would cause her death. Then, based on what he and Padme knew from previous events, it would become clear that Palpatine had ordered the previous assassination attempts against Padme. Palapatine wasn't promising to help him save Padme with esoteric Force powers. He was basically promising (but lying) that he would not have Padme killed if Anakin cooperated. Padme, having none of this, would alert her fellow Senators of the Delegation of 2000 that Palpatine was a Sith Lord running a massive false flag operation in order to convince the Senate to give him dictatorial powers. The resulting uproar would force Palpatine to try to overthrow the Senate quickly lest they vote to remove him. But this would prove that the Jedi were telling the truth and the Senators, along with the systems that they represented, could move to use non-clone personnel to seize command of Republic fleet assets, as the commanders of these of these ships were not clones. Instead a Republic unified in backing him, Palpatine would find himself in a chaotic situation. The Separatist leadership was in disarray with the loss of Dooku and Grievous. Palaptine, now viewed with suspicion, would have a hard time sending communications from Coruscant unmonitored. Backed into a corner, he could no longer hide his powers, thus proving that he was a Sith Lord.
I had never really thought of it like that before. I doubt they could have removed all deaths by child birth if done naturally, but if he was so scared he could have insisted on a c section that I would have no doubt they had the technology to do without any risk whatsoever apart from human error or machine malfunction.
@@kylerowley8248 - Like I said, given what they did to Grievous, getting a couple of babies out Padme's uterus should have been extremely simple on a planet like Coruscant.
I'm sure that women die in childbirth on Tatooine all the time. So Anakin would be familiar with that concept. But if he weren't so headstrong he would have understood why Padme didn't believe his nightmare. Rich political elites on Coruscant don't die from complications of childbirth.
That Obi-Wan was in his vision, to me, implied that Padme had suffered some injury, possibly due to combat, and so the *real* concern was focusing on her safety overall, not just during the delivery.

Almost no man could resist Sidious if he had devoted so much attention to manipulating him over the course of his entire life. Anakin was set an all but impossible task, and he failed, but tried very hard not to. Anakin was a very great man, just not among the greatest few who could have succeeded.
@@kylerowley8248 - It's hard for me to respect Anakin when he became slavishly obedient to Palpatine even though Palaptine admitted that he *didn't* possess the secret of saving people from death. Especially as a Dark Jedi, Anakin's reaction to Palpatine's admission that he had been lying should have been to finish what Mace Windu started and leaving Palpatine's headless corpse on the office carpet.
Instead he just became a slave, again. The sad truth is that he was weak. He never escaped his slave mentality. Even as Darth Vader he was a follower, only leading those he could bully. But still, ultimately, a slave.
@@daniels7907 I can get that, but by the time he faced obi wan on mustifar, he believed the jedi to be evil. Its a matter of ideology, Anakin watched as the flaws of the republic and democracy were twisted and manipulated by the powerful. Yes it was sparked and spearheaded by the sith, but it was an old republic that was failing anyway and it could have eventualy happened without sith aid.
The clone wars made the jedi into hypocritical warriors and politicians but their morals still wouldn't let them go far enough to finish the war swiftly. The jedi order was just as weak as the republic in their current state. Palpatine offered imperial authority. Sure, a good chunk of the population would get fucked over, but in time he could overthrow the emperor and rule with padme trying to make the world a bettter place for everyone gradualy using his new ultimate power. It was only after padme died that anakin "died" as well and truly became darth vader with no thoughts for anyone but himself.
You are entirely right about him being born a slave greatly weakening his resolve, but that was the point. Once, when I was watching the movies I thought that maybe sidious was sending him the dreams so I looked into it and in the comics (probrably not canon anymore) sidious did send the dreams and even impregnated his mother through the force. Palpatine wanted anakin to be born a slave for that reason. Thats why I think he never stood a chance. Anakin was being manipulated before he was even born.

An interesting what if, but I feel Palpatine would still have some kind of ace up his sleeve if he was exposed.
Considering how he had unlimited resources at his disposal, he could easily have had a secret army blend in with the various senators and guards to spring into action to seize the senate by force, along with already trained inquisitors. The entire senate building would go into lockdown with everyone inside killed to keep his identity a secret so he could pin it on the Jedi. Hell, for all we know he could have the building set to detonate at a single command when it was built.
What if the Jedi Temple is a mobile fortress. Ever since the first Sith invasion of Coruscant and repeated direct attack by the Sith, the militaristic Jedi Council at the time had to face the prospect of the Jedi Temple being a fixed target for an orbital bombardment by the Sith Empire, Eternal Empire, and even the Rakatan Empire ships. So the Jedi Temple had been rebuilt from the top to have the latest technological upgrades like regular shields and weapons while it also expanded downwards below the bedrock too. Thousands of years before, during the previous Sith Wars, the Jedi Temple wasn't just a learning institution, it was also the military headquarters of the Jedi forces and even the Republic's military. So during the thousands of years, the Jedi Temple had been upgraded to withstand attacks from fleet of ships in orbit as well as inside the atmosphere as well as ground invasions by Sith warriors&their battledroids too.
Having studied the Tho Yor and understanding how it operates with its technological equivalent, the Jedi Temple had been rebuilt based on the design of the Tho Yor but supersized. The visible Jedi Temple is actually the tip of a very massive underground pyramid/diamond. The entire structure is actually over some dozen kilometer square, 6x6km wide footprint diamond on its base. Similar to the NightSisters' Astrometric Temple, the Jedi Temple has multiple chambers of focusing crystals that's highly protected even from betrayal within as that's how the Sith typically attacks the Jedi Temple in previous invasions. The chambers can operate like a ships' astrometrics, power amplifier for weapons like Force Lightnings&Push/Pull, FTL, battle meditation. The Jedi Praxeum ships like the Chu'unthor is based on the Jedi Temples facilities. It even has a Kwa Infinity Gate and Gree Hypergate stored inside it.
As it started lifting off Coruscant's surface to rise into orbit, its massive underground footprint is now lifting the cityscape's surrounding it too. There were still Republic ships that were still approaching&attacking the massive diamond megalithic stone structure but it's powerful shields is strong enough to survive a fleet of ships' orbital bombardment. Once it's in orbit, it was able to fire its conventional weapons like batteries of minor superlasers in each of the diamond's faces, edges&bases to ensure that its weapons entirely covers the space around it.
So when the Separatists attacked Coruscant and kidnapped the Chancellor, the Jedi Temple was put on high alert but it wasn't fully active since it wasn't directly attacked by ships in orbit but by battledroids on the ground. It did activate its very powerful shields and used its conventional weapons but its Force powered weapons&defenses were prepared and put on standby. Since the target was actually Palpatine, the Jedi Temple didn't need to leave Coruscant. Only the Jedi GrandMaster&BattleMaster is aware of the secret functionality of the hidden chambers below the temple and since the Separatist invasion of Coruscant, the Jedi Masters that's needed to operate the various chambers had been put on standby alert especially as the clone wars nears its end. When Master Mace Windu left to confront Palpatine, he got Master Sindralic to fully activate the Jedi Temple's defenses&evacuation protocols in case they fail to arrest Palpatine&the worst happens in which Palpatine orders an orbital bombardment or a purge of the Jedi Temple.
When Anakin led the attack on the Jedi Temple, he doesn't know the temple's entire defenses. The trusted Jedi Masters that's in the hidden chambers are fully aware of what's happening around the temple and they activated the anti-personnel ground defenses outside&within the temple's perimeters. As from previous Sith invasions, the bunkered Jedi Masters were on a lookout for internal traitors as they're expecting it before the enemy troops would attack the temple and they found the future Sith Inquisitor temple guard. His entire area was stunned which includes his members of his team and then he was imprisoned quickly in carbonite. Anakin&the 501st didn't stand a chance and never even got near to the entrance since the anti-personnel ground defenses were designed to destroy battle droids&sith warriors. The clones were wiped out and Anakin retreated as he was the only one to escape. He didn't know about the temple's ground defenses since he&ObiWan was in orbit fighting against the Separatists fleet. So when several Venators descended into the atmosphere to directly attack the Jedi Temple, Anakin saw the hidden defenses of the temple as its powerful shields endured the turbolaser fires from the Venators. The temple then revealed its hidden turbolaser turrets and returned fire against the Venators and then up into orbits with Venator ships moving into orbital bombardment positions above the temple. The shields looked pyramid shaped which greatly reduced the damage that the temple shields had to endure. As for why the temple can't shoot at the Republic Senate building, the previous Senate only approved the Jedi Temple's upgrades as long as it's pointed upwards and not at the buildings around it. What the previous Jedi Council didn't inform the Senate was that the Jedi Temple is mobile and can actually rise into orbit and leave Coruscant.

Now hear me out, in Legends Continuity, Jedi Sentinels are Jedi who balance out the usage of Physical Abilities and Force Attunment, all the while supplementing it with external abilities. One of these abilities was the use of Machines. Anakin already has this skill set, so why not dive in fully and do a what-if where, instead of a Guardian, as he is in canon, make him a sentinel who specializes in machinery and hacking?
Palpatine could have used the force to directly control the clones and Senators around him, therefore the evidence wouldn't matter unless the jedi would manage to bring ysalamiri into the senate, in which case they would have had the least spectacular lightsaber fight since the invention of the lightsaber.

I'm sorry, just no. There is no way Windu would fall that quickly or even at all against Palaptine. And he wouldn't be caught off guard. In Revenge if the sith it was Windu who sensed the Dark side surrounding palpatine and it was Windu who sensed a plot to destroy the Jedi. As soon as palpatine drew a lightsaber Windu would be ready to go. And they expected a fight hence why 4 masters go to arrest him

What if Padme died before Mustafar, Order 66, and the attempted apprehension of Palpatine?
Story could still work because Palpatine was just talking out his ass with the whole save Padmé thing. Could've just as easily promised Anakin to bring her back from the dead and if he believes it he'd do anything to have her back. Even if he's already begun to heal from the loss he'd jump at the chance to have that power in order to get her back. And potentially his mother as well. So even if she died earlier from something completely unrelated to Palpatine or the war Anakin would still take the bait. The only thing that could've stopped him was being made master. If he could access the archives completely he'd know that it wasn't possible. Since the Jedi had documented most of the sith abilities as well as their own for well over a thousand years.
