Keir Bo fr, I'm 18 and was born and raised in NC, and I'm tryna do something with my life so I can get outta here, too much racial tension and simple mindedness, not that everyone here is racist and simple minded, it's just way too conservative here, nobody can express themselves without being called weird, I can't date a white girl without wondering if her parents are cool with me being black, it sucks...
Feel like strong communities are such a rare thing down south, particularly in London. Living here up north (Yorkshire) you always get that good feeling of a strong community and know pretty much everyone within your village/town. When I visit family in London it seems like everyone is just getting on with their own lives, without having time for neighbors etc. Good to see Tottenham bringing back the community feel down south!
I don't know I would disagree. Maybe because there is over 8 million people in London? and generally Yorkshire is a way way wayyyyy nicer place & easier to live. Bit more difficult to form a community in certain places in the UK, London being one of them. You can't just say down south as places like Bournemouth and such are just fine in regards to community. I think there is a community now bigger than ever in London, and its showing through the success of its music & scene?
Yeah tbh I should have only mentioned London. Its just the little things though, like a 'good morning' whilst walking to the shop can't happen just because of over population? Shocking if true. Anyway as a northerner I don't really care THAT much ahaha
+Mo Fomi Honestly I've lived in both London and the north and he's not wrong, people in London are generally colder and less receptive, they completely ignore strangers and tend to be more stuck up, it's the same in some other big cities from what I've heard. Up north it's a lot more friendly, people are generally more humbled, and strangers will even say hi to you in the street
Absolutely love this documentary. I write this as someone now living in Dubai who grew up and followed a very similar musical path growing up working the Pirate Radio scene getting into live gigs across London, followed by some international gigs then onto my new home in Dubai. 100% proud of my Tottenham roots. It gave me the life skills to push through the hardships and go and get what you want out of life. Big Love!

Black American here. It's apparent that Black Brits only focused on one aspect of American Hip Hop and mistakenly thought that Hip Hop was only about pain and suffering, which is far from the truth. Maybe they can't relate to the other styles of hip hop b/c of their reality. I don't know. I do know as a Black Americans growing up listening to Hip Hop, the music was not originally about expressing any pain or talking about our problems. It was not a "dark" musical genre at all. Despite it coming out of the youth who were in a "dark" situation, hip hop was their way to dance, have fun, and party. It was a joyful and exciting music that expressed alot of positivity. It was about Black empowerment, upliftment, being positive, caring and taking care of our community, and hyping up the crowd to have a good time. Later, people used it as a tool to tell stories about their experiences and the pain/struggle of living in the inner city. But, it was not limited to that at all. That's why in the USA, hip hop has party music, hip hop for the stripper clubs, hip hop that focuses on sptting game to women, hip hop that expresses Black empowerment, jazz hip hop that was on a positive tip, you have hip hop songs about doing a new dance, and so on. Please get away from this narrative that Hip hop only focused on the pain and struggle of Black life in the hood. That's not true at all. In America, hip hop is versatile and covers all human experience.

Chances are if you grew up in Tottenham you’ve seen or been through some shit. I’ve seen scary situations with knives and guns. People that need emergency treatment after being stabbed but won’t let you phone an ambulance for them. There is a lot wrong in the area, but it is still home. Tottenham should celebrate these boys and girls who grow up with very little but channel their creativity to find success. These are truly talented people, and talented people are everywhere.
