Pavitra Rajaram’s eclectic home in Mumbai reveals layers of cultural influences, art, history and vignettes that have shaped the aesthete’s life and callings.
Purely by virtue of spatiality and decor, the 3,800 sq ft home is a smorgasbord of colours, textures, art and conversations. “It’s a myth that a designer knows exactly what they want to do with their home from day one. People evolve and homes evolve along with them and sometimes you need to grow into your home,” says Pavitra. The ecosystem entails a seemingly serendipitous coming together of textiles, eclectic furniture, objets d’art alongside some great art on the walls. In the backdrop, Pierre Frey’s wistful wallpaper shines through, courtesy of her longstanding tryst with Nilaya by Asian Paints. But what is Pavitra’s secret to curating a home at the intersection of craft and culture? “It’s something old, something new, something borrowed and something blue,” she concludes.

Finally, we are over the white hospital home. 😮
Many Indian apartments look charming in India, but don't translate well, in other countries... being there, too homogenized ethnic, alien..even seemingly staged for the effect.
That would still be a look, of course. But not one everyone might feel comfortable with, on a daily basis. One might have a nice curry, frequently...but not daily. One would soon get homesick, for the familiar.
But this apartment would be quite comfortable in Manhattan.... and still quite lovely. It's intent of homey and welcoming, intact.
Пестро на первый взгляд. Но для индианки норм
I ❤INDIA.
🙏🏼
I'M AN OVERSEAS PAKISTANI WHO TRULY LOVES
INDIA, . . . NO LIP SERVICE THERE!
MODI SARKAAR AND THE INDIAN ESTABLISHMENT, . . .
KINDLY GRANT ME INDIAN CITIZENSHIP, FOR THAT
I'LL GLADLY GIVE UP MY PAKISTANI AND CANADIAN
CITZENSHIP, . . . IT'S BEEN ONE OF MY GREATEST
WISHES IN LIFE TO TRAVEL ALL ACROSS INDIA,
BUY A SMALL AND COSY HOUSE AND SETTLE
THERE PERMANENTLY!
OF COURSE, THE EXTREMELY TOXIC POLITICS
BETWEEN INDIA AND PAKISTAN, ONE OF THE
BIGGEST CHALLENGES, . . . DOESN'T HELP AT
ALL!
SOMEDAY PERHAPS, . . . THE TWO COUNTRIES
WILL REALIZE THAT THERE'S MORE THAT UNITES
THAN DIVIDES THEM!
SOMEDAY!
I WANT TO BE THIS BEAUTIFUL INDIAN
LADY LIVING IN THAT HOUSE, . . .
THAT FEELS LIKE HOME, BY THE WAY,
NOT A HOUSE!
What does she mean at 1:10 "when I was in transition"? Was she born a boy?
I understood it to mean transitioning between styles.
@@sharonphelps Thank goodness lol.
