The person wasn’t listening at all.
They were there to argue and fight and that was it.

This student started by making up his own facts about capitalism. Then Dinesh stated the real facts and the student agreed. Hopefully the student learned something in this short debate.

Capitalism is the pursuit of profit, but so are other forms this person isn’t thinking about. Communism is the pursuit of profit, but for the state at the expense of everyone else.

I would not say capitalism is the pursuit of profit. As Dinesh says, is slavery capitalism?? Of course not. Capitalism is when you control your own labor and capital. That's it. You own you. I own me. We agree to trade. That is capitalism.

What you call 'the state' is always a cabal of corrupt leaders. It's never for the benefit of the people who reside in the state. In the USSR the joke was always, 'we pretended to work & they pretended to pay us.'

The problem with Communism is that it is the ideal for an ordered society, it is not an ideology. All political systems are attempts to emulate Communism. Free Market Capitalism is a way to emulate Communism. I produce stuff and need things, so I find someone who will give me things for my stuff. I give according to my abilities and receive according to my needs. If I am very able, I will earn a surplus. If I have a surplus, I am able to be charitable and support the needs of those with less ability. Free Market Capitalism is a valid route to Communism.
Sadly, too many people think that the path to Communism is Socialism. Socialism is the complete surrender of the individual to the State. The State demands what I must produce and assigns what I get to consume. The problem is how does the State know what I can produce and what I need, in a timely enough manner that I do not starve? The answer is that it cannot. Absent omniscient angels, planned economies are doomed to failure. Under Free Market Capitalism, the entrepreneur does not need to know everybody's needs, and his own needs and the needs of the individuals that he deals with. Worse, Socialism presents the moral hazard of cheating, with the political elite having the greatest rewards from cheating. As a Communist society has no need for coercion, there is no opportunity to exercise power, so the elites have a vested need to actively prevent the spontaneous transformation from Socialism to Communism.
Everybody wants Communism, but we do not agree on how to implement Communism. Socialists believe that Communism will arise when everyone is a slave to the State and that is something that no right-thinking individual should tolerate.
[silly math joke] Politics is complex, because people are real and Communism is imaginary. [/silly math joke]

What everyone fails to recognize or understand is that capitalism is not a system that has to be implemented. And there’s nothing political about capitalism. It’s not an ideology. Capitalism is simply the way people and businesses and nations conduct transactions among themselves and between each other when there is no interference or coercion by some 3rd party who is otherwise not involved in the transaction. Even the word ‘capitalism’ is nothing more than a much more convenient way to convey the meaning of everything I just said. Socialism, on the other hand, is a political ideology that imposes an economic system that has to be managed, controlled and ENFORCED and which ALWAYS FAILS.

I went to the former Soviet Union in 1993 on a missions trip. This was 2 yrs after Communism ended. I saw the aftermath of Communism there. In addition to most people living barely above poverty, 70 yrs of Communism ripped the soul out of that country. We need MAJOR educational reform...

Capitalism can have a negative effect if, say, the worker is convinced to work for a lower wage that he might have gotten if he demanded to be paid more, but the point is, end the end, both sides AGREED to whatever wage is woked out. If you don't like it, DEMAND MORE. If the boss can't get anyone to work for less, he will gave to pay what you ask.

I've got a newsflash for this punk. Profit is not exclusive to capitalism. Even under totalitarian regimes profit is sought after by both the government and whatever businesses it allows to operate. As far as colonization goes the colonization of most other lands during the 15th, 16th, 17th, 18th, and 19 centuries was carried out by governments headed by a monarchy who ruled totally. France, Spain, Portugal, Russia, China, and Japan to name a few. Every colony that the U.S. and the U.K. currently rule over are ruled with the consent of those colonies.
