    VERY IMPORTANT. If you use the rubber hose from a 20lb grill tank, use the FILTER. Otherwise, the oils that leach out of the rubber under high pressure from the tank (100psi) will ruin the ceramic panel. It turns brown and clogs up. Filters are about $10 and should last basically forever. Thanks.

    I bought the 18k version after winter storm Uri. Thankfully, I've not had to use it. But, it is a radiant heater so you need to have it pointed at the area you want warmed. And a fan in the room is sufficient. No need to point it in the direction of the heater. I also have the hose to connect to a twenty pounder or larger if needed. Additionally, I bought an adapter to fill the one pound tanks from a larger tank. I found that placing the empty one pound tank in the freezer helped in the filling. These tanks should weigh one pound extra when filled, but overfilling will cause the excess propane to escape from the safety valve so storing outside for a few days initially is probably a good idea. I have discovered that this southern boy does not like the cold which is anything below 70 degrees

    We have ours connected to a 15 LB propane tank, a one pound tank will last 5 hours on low heat; a 15 pound tank will last 75 hours on low heat. The investment in the hose to change to a 15 pound tank easily pays for itself in savings.

    Make sure you keep the threads covered, with its suppled plastic cap, or you can buy a 4 pack of copper caps from Walmart for $5, because if they rust it could be dangerous, due to leaking you should depose of that bottle.
    Keep the bottles stored in a well ventilated storage area. To avoid a possible ignition, due to gas build up if there was a leak.

The teams have been out in weather that was down to -55 degrees, yikes! Yes, the buddy heater is good. I have family members who were without electricity for a week last month during snow and ice storms in Oregon. They were thankful to have this heater, and have ordered another for future use. You can save $10 with a cheap generic hose, and it will work fine for a while. But over time, standard hoses will leach oil and clog up your heater unless you buy filters and replace them periodically. The manufacturer sells a hose that does not leach oil and does not require a filter. It's Mr. Heater part #F273704. Over time, it will be cheaper to buy the factory hose, versus replacing a lot of filters. More importantly, who knows if filters will be findable in a power-out situation when half the people in town are using propane heat.

I set the temperature to as low as I could get it and once the bricks heated up it worked like a charm. It made my propane last 3 fold. I also use a radiant kerosene heater because it’s cheaper and I can use 3 different types of fuel in it which are on road diesel, off road diesel and regular kerosene. The buddy heater is good but it takes a lot of fuel. If you can find it.

    I watch a lot of nomad channels and I always heard you had to leave a window cracked when running a buddy heater?

    • @AlaskaGranny
      @AlaskaGranny  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Perhaps nomads crack the window more for the condensation, but can be a great idea.

    Do you have trouble getting rid of the 1gallon propane cans?

      You can get an adapter to refill them.

    Hi Alaska Granny. I was looking to purchase one of these Mr. Buddy heaters a short time ago ( I do not yet have a generator, nor a wood stove ). I checked on the internet to see who offers these heaters. Tractor Supply does. However, the store nearby does not have it in stock, AND when I go to order it on-line, Tractor Supply tells me they can't ship it to Massachusetts !!! ??? I do not know why. I'll check other sources, as I still would like to have one, or two.

Hopefully the electric does not go out this Spring. Our Highs are 60s and low around 40 here in Kentucky ( no snow). So guess I will takes my chances

      @@AlaskaGranny Wow! I just bought my heater a few days ago. It was around $120. Guess I should have waited. If I had money in bank now. I would order another one. Maybe Monday I can if they still have it after I make a deposit. Still need propane if I can get them for regular $4 price each. May have wait till later. Thanks!

    I use an electric heating pad at bedtime. No worries about carbon monoxide or huge space heater electric bill. Of course your product could be indispensable when power goes out, unless you live where I am in a south Florida.

      This made me chuckle a wee bit. I'm in central FL and I bought one of these heaters for that "just in case" moment. We may not get ice/snow storms, but I don't think any of us could say that we will not lose power during the winter. I'd rather spend the $100 and be prepared than to think that my FL sunshine is going to come to my rescue.

      @@AlaskaGranny yes they are, and Central Florida can get some frosty weather, not so in South Florida. I can manage cold nights with enough blankets here but for me a gas heater is a waste of money. I have a portable generator for air conditioning though.

    I have a very important question to ask you. I am about to purchase the Mr. Heater Buddy and a friend told me that these emit an odor and can not be used indoors. We went round and round because I think he was thinking of some other propane heater. Just want your opinion. The ratings are very high on this item. Do these heaters emit a noxious odor? Thanks, Marilyn
