    I remember watching this review prior to purchasing my TT-15S1 almost 3 years ago and I found it very helpful. And now that I just sold my turntable, I found your unboxing helpful once again to be sure I packed it up correctly. Thanks! And glad to see you’re back with some new content of late. All the best.

    How I overcame the on/off issue with the motor. I plugged it into a power strip and just leave the switch to the motor on. I use the switch on the power strip as the actual on/off switch. I never have to touch the base of the motor and risk jostling it around.

    Had mine about 15 years, upgraded to a Maestro cart, didn’t understand you motor issues at all, just be careful and check that it is central, no hardship. I would recommend a Q-Up, a speed box, and never use the mat :) acrylic is inert enough. Beautiful device, looks lice an ice sculpture, great German engineering, and above all, sounds fabulous.

    I wish this review was available when I first purchased my Marantz TT 15S1. Definitely, a struggle setting up the turntable. Now, before I go any further, I must make it clear that the Marantz is my first ever turntable and I'm by no means an audiophile, just someone that admires music through these beautiful machines. That being said, I have no regrets and know I'll have this in my possession for years to come. However, if you're someone new looking to purchase your first turntable, I'd say, go for something simpler and familiarize yourself with turntables first. But it's ultimately up to you :)

      It really is hard to set up this TT regardless of whether someone has owned any kind of audiophile TT before. I had an occasional skating issue which spoiled my enjoyment. And then I paid a professional from a hifi shop to do it right. Since then the TT has worked fine. It's a joy to use, a joy to own, and it sounds far more grown-up than the cheaper Pro-ject esprit that I had previously. People talk about hearing more details when upgrading a TT, but to put it more simply - you get clarity. It's not about more bass. It's about hearing the bass notes distinctly, and the drums having more weight, the singer being in your room. Like I say, more grown up. The chirping, stuttering silicon belt issue went completely after a few spins/sides of vinyl

    • @nazaholicable
      @nazaholicable 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@DG-ie5ip I don't mind the location of the power switch. It makes sense, if you think about it. The motor is deliberately separate from the turntable itself. When the likes of Rega do this, they put a square motor to the left of the TT, so that it feels like an extra box, which lives outside the turntable, and takes up more room on the shelf. What Marantz do is innovative. They cut a large circular hole in the TT plinth, and the motor fits neatly inside. That is the reason for the motor switch being where it is. Given the alternative of either a separate motor set to the side, or the motor being integral (as per a cheaper TT), I would rather have things as Marantz have done it.

    Yeah, this one and the ClearAudio Concept are my short list.
    I don’t like to be one of those “for this kind of money” people but I don’t feel like paying $1,600+ to have to build my own turntable. I could probably do it but I’ve spent too many hours sweating and cussing over the years trying to build stuff “just right”. I’m not a rich man but my sanity is a valuable commodity.
    I like your reviews, btw.

  • @IvanLietaert

    Great review! Two things I don't like about this tt: one, you have to mount the tonearm yourself. Two, you have to mount the cartridge yourself. This must be done really well in order to achieve the best sound quality, and require expert fingers! If this isn't done right, you will not hear the excellent sound of the tt.
    I own a Pro-Ject TT and here too, there is no button to change the speed. Although I don't do that too often (changing speed), I sometimes touch the belt while changing records, and then I need to put on the belt again, which is an annoyance.

  • @gotham61

    Just FYI, the Marantz effectively is also a Clearaudio turntable. It is entirely made in Germany by Clearaudio. It is essentially the Clearaudio Emotion SE model, with a few cosmetic changes, and the Clearaudio Satisfy tonearm.
    For me, the real difference over the Concept Black your reviewed, is that it uses the gimball bearing Satisfy arm, rather than the magnetic bearing Verify arm found on the Concept. I feel this is a massive benefit.

    • @DevotedtoVinyl

    $1100. Bummin....

    Hi Michael, the Marantz TT-15S1 was definitely on my list when I shopped for new turntables to replace my Duals that had served me well for the last 46 years. In my theater and my office, I went for the Denon DP-400. As Denon is a sister company to Marantz, I thought that the quality of the Denon would resemble Marantz somewhat...uh, no! The only reason I purchased the Denon (aka Audio Technica) DP-400 is for the 78 rpm speed. I have a large 78 collection. However, the motor noise is like the inexpensive record players of the 1950's.
    For my Music Room, I chose the Rega P6 over the Marantz. I am running the Marantz SA-PM and SA-KI "Ruby" amplifier and SACD player as designed by Ken Ishiwata for his 40th anniversary with the company. The Rega is a fine player and I have a Nagaoka MP-200 purple MM cartridge. It sounds great through my Klipsch Premium Reference speakers.
    While strongly wanting to stick with all Marantz, the turntable turned me off with the drive belt. Thee Rega has a switch box for speed control. I think the external belt movement with fingers is bizarre for this day and age. Also, as you mentioned, having to reach back for the power switch is equally bizarre. I could not bring myself to pay more for the Marantz than the full-featured Rega. I guess it is the difference of $600 vs. $1300 when the cartridge is taken out of the equation.
    As always, I really enjoyed your video. Thank you for doing this!...Juergen

    I just bought this turntable. When I power the motor on it chirps and stutters until it gets up to speed - maybe one second worth of chirping and the motor pulley flailing a bit. Is that normal?

    • @DevotedtoVinyl
      @DevotedtoVinyl  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

It already has a preamp built in and I also asked for a pair of Dayton b652 bookshelf speakers. What else should I ask for? Can any amplifier/receiver go with any speakers and record players? If you could get back to me soon that would be great.

      It depends a bit on how much you wanted to spend. But, you could get an integrated amplifier, for example, and just plug your TT into the AUX or CD input of the amp. If in the future you want to use an external phono preamp, you could either use the phono stage that's built inside of the integrated amp, or decide to buy an individual external phono preamp.
