Mahendragiri is the 2nd highest peak of Odisha after Deomali.
It has three peaks which local people generally call top. The three three peaks are Bheem which is the highest one, followed by Arjun top and Jagannath top.
The Mahendragiri Mountain is associated with mythological stories from the Ramayana as Mahendra Parvata (mountain). It is a ‘Kula Parvata’ along with Malaya, Sahyadri, Parijatra, Shuktiman, Vindhya and Malyavaan. In the Puranas and Mahabharata that Parashuram practised penance for a long time on the Mahendra Mountain.
Mahendragiri is located in the Gajapati district of Odisha. It is situated amongst the Eastern Ghats at an elevation of 1,501 metres (4,925 ft). It is 245 KM. from Bhubaneswar and 231 KM from Vishakhapatnam.
