What a Beautiful Song, so amazing musicians, Bassist of the century, The Bass sounds so good in your hands! I'll never get tired of your unparalleled playing!
The BOD sounds the same as it did 45 years ago, despite being smashed up, rebuilt and being played by Hadrien instead of Jaco! I can still hear that tone from A Remark You Made and Continuum right there.
WTF? It isn’t the same ACTUAL instrument mate! The original BoD is long gone and lost. Moreover, Jaco’s bass NEVER had a flame-maple top. Also, really not sure what you’re listening to but the bass Hadrien is playing sounds VERY different from the BoD. The huge mwah and the really growling aspects simply aren’t present to the same extent as with the original BoD. Maybe listen again, wearing headphones or something as it’s really quite an obvious difference, especially if you’re a fretless or upright bass player. 😱🤯
@@aaronperelmuter8433 Actually, it is - when the bass was found, the body was smashed into several pieces. It was glued back together and the flame maple top was added to hide the cracks. It’s all in Bill Milkowski’s book, plus Robert Trujillo wouldn’t have paid a million dollars for it if it didn’t have the correct provenance. And, if course it’s not going to sound identical in this clip. Hadrien is playing it, not Jaco, and it’s not going through a big Acoustic 370, but you can definitely hear that signature tone. Incidentally, I am a fretless player. :) [edit] This is what happened: “In 1986, the bass was repaired by luthiers Kevin Kaufman and Jim Hamilton, after it had been broken into many pieces. After the repair Pastorius recorded a session with Mike Stern, then the bass was stolen from a park bench in Manhattan in 1986. It was found in a guitar shop in 2006, but the shop owner refused to give it up. The Pastorius family enlisted lawyers to help but nearly went bankrupt in 2010. Robert Trujillo, bassist for Metallica, considered Pastorius to be one of his heroes, and he felt that the family ought to have the bass. Trujillo helped pay to have it returned to them, though he has used it live and is its custodian.” Do a search on here for “bass of doom” - there’s clips of Felix Pastorius playing it (who, dare I say, has become an even better bass player than his dad was), as well as other greats, including Wooten, Bailey and so on.
