Barry was a fantastic offensive player. One of the best ever. It was clear once his career was over he was hated throughout the league. He couldn't get a coaching job and ex- teammates as well as opponents often ripped him for his attitude and selfishness as a player.

This has to be the least amount of evidence ever, a few shots of Barry from the game - one in which he still scored 20. He's well respected by anyone with genuine knowledge of the game.

When I was a kid I couldn’t understand why Rick left the Warriors for the ABA after the ‘67 season, but I do now. Warrior owner Franklin Mieuli was a penny pincher. He ran the team like a mom and pop grocery store. I’m just glad Barry came back in ‘72 and led the team to the title a couple of years later. I know he had a prickly reputation as a player, but when it came to signing autographs he was as generous with his time as anybody I ever dealt with. I got his autograph several times in the 60’s and still have them to this day.

It has also been reported that his teammates wouldn’t throw him the ball in that game even if he was open. I haven’t seen the game, so I don’t know. But it may have been a mutual split within the team where his teammates were saying, “To hell with you,” just as much as he was.

You win as a team and lose as a team. If his teammates didn't have his back, that's on them. I don't blame him for being upset with his team if they didn't stick up for him during the fight.

Did you try asking Rick for his side of the story before publishing this complete and utter bull---- based on flimsy sources not telling the truth?

What a terrible suggestion. Everybody watching that game knew he gave up on his team. What’s he going to do, admit that? 😂

My favorite book as a child: "Confessions of a Basketball Gypsy" by Rick Barry.
