His position in the car only left his upper body and head as a target. Shooting out the tyres would not stop him using a gun if he had one on him, nor would flat tyres have stopped the vehicle from being moved and used as a weapon.

Yes the car was involved in a shooting the day before and Chris had a conviction sheet longer than an elephants trunk which started when he was 14, ranging from stabbing to carrying a replica gun then he rammed numerous police vehicles. He messed around for the last time and got shown what happens. The officer did his job and duty in protecting not only himself and fellow officers but also the public. This isn't a race issues and shouldn't be labelled as one. It was a man who was a career criminal doing what he's always done. We need to remember armed police do not get paid extra for carrying guns. Armed police are called on average 4000 times a year only in 0.00002% is the gun ever fired. This was a good officer who did a good job. He should be rewarded not had a trial.

The police could not merely immobilise the car. An unknown person was driving a car that was used as a get-away vehicle in a shooting the day before, and in 2 other incidents previously. The driver's behaviour made police afraid that the same shooter, of the day before, was the one behind the wheel, and probably armed. Also, the ramming of police vehicles could have led to the knocking down and killing of police officers. The police officer acted reasonably in light of the circumstances.

But with all the commotion, lights flashing, the guy still trying to escape etc he may have had a gun himself, and we could be talking about the police man dying instead!
So all that being said knowing what we know now about Kaba i know who i stand with, and it's not him!
He was a thug like last caller said, and the 2 callers saying it was murder is beyond stupid!
I would like to ask both of them, if when Kaba was firing that gun in a nightclub, he had accidently hit and killed one of their children in there at the time, would they really be bleating on about it was murder crap, i think not!!

The quick verdict from the jury would be expected as there was very little to contest, unlike a normal murder trial. Both sides agreed that the defendant did kill the deceased. Normally the defendant might deny everything: being at the scene, knowing or having ever seen the victim, having any motive, having ever seen the murder weapon etc. They might produce allibies, witnesses in their favour etc. There's normally much more for the jury to discuss.

What the Police did know was that the car had been involved in a shooting. What they didn't know was whether the occupant was armed or not. In this case they had to assume that he was. It was dark and if they driver had made a move that could be construed as going for a gun then the armed officer has a split second to make a decision. If the officer had not shot and the suspect had subsequently shot either him or one of his colleagues then he would have been castigated. That is a catch 22 scenario.
I do agree with the thought that maybe they charged him with a charge that he was highly likely to be acquitted of to try and ease any public outcry. Had he been charged with manslaughter then he may have been found guilty given that the background to this incident was not disclosed during the trial.

Jeremy vine is pretty ignorant too on the rule of self defence at 13:43. A citizen or police officer cannot shoot someone because they may use their car as a weapon. This is pretty obvious legally. The right to self defence is one where risk exists. Police don’t have powers to shoot to kill to avoid crimes in the UK and I think we all want that regardless of who this guy was because the law has to apply equally, with obvious horrendous consequences if it isn’t equal

Geoffs the best guest they get on this show fullstop and I suspect sits nearer to the man on the streets opinion without getting all silly and "back in my day" over it. He's rational but doesnt get political. Doesnt feel like theres an agenda. Pretty much agree with him completely on this subject. Investigation yes but a murder charge?, thank god it went the way it did or this country would be doomed. Yes the bullet hit him in the head but that doesnt mean he was aiming there. If anything this has sent a precedence and should be the end of these cases but who knows in the current crazy climate?.

The guy calling in at around 13:26 saying the police are justified shooting because he may have a gun. I’m not defending Kaba but rights of all and sorry this is pretty ignorant thing to say with the laws in the uk…..You or I can take action and lethal force against another if we fear for our lives. This is a real, legitimate, ongoing threat. It’s not something that could happen. But also the standard I or others apply to others is exactly the same standard police apply to Kaba, which people don’t seem to understand. Because the car was still at the time of the shot there was no impending risk.

      @13thnotehifireviews7 5 ชั่วโมงที่ผ่านมา

@@OleGitRule he couldn’t because the police car from behind was blocking him so he couldn’t reverse if you were following the vine graphic. You see the police car from behind come up against Kaba’s car again after kaba takes the gap towards the Tesla and then reverses back. It’s almost impossible to move a car with its hand break on by spinning your wheels bumper to bumper against it - as that’s all that will happen because of the weight of the vehicles front and back. Only if the car has inertia and speed will it move a car, which is why police use this in enforced stops.

The issues we face in this country stem from a long history of racism, my earliest knowledge is when people from the Commonwealth including my own grandparents. Despite being law abiding citizens and there contribution to the UK. They were invited here and then treated poorly.
History has shown us that these split-second decisions, particularly when it comes to people of color, are often disproportionately harsh.
While the police must be free to do their jobs, there must also be checks and balances to ensure everyone's safety. Without these safeguards, I’m certain we would see more instances of trigger-happy officers who believe it's open season on people of color.
Even today, in 2024, friends and family still talk about their kids being called the N-word by white people at school, showing that this racism is far from over. It's a sad story for both sides

The force was excessive as the car was stationary and not an impending risk and blocked in. As the gentleman said, who is absolutely right, the police did not know Kaba was driving the car, agreed. It was absolutely right to bring the charges.
I’ve no idea why the jury took the decision they did but it shows, probably, that people are sympathetic to police who they perceive are doing a tough job, but that they didn’t understand that the risk didn’t exist at the time - in which case it is manslaughter. Also that the force the public can use is the same as police and that people can only take lethal force if there is clearly and obviously a mortal risk to oneself and this risk is continuing. It wasn’t in this case.
