Instead of using that bar tool to lift the bar into the trailer cradle, just lift the trailer with the tongue jack until the bars are completely unloaded, remove the pins from the truck end of the bars and slide the bars aft. Really fast and easy, plus less time running the jack.

You did a good job showing how to install this hitch. Thanks. Thanks for the video. I have a question about this compared to chain style. Once you set it up can you adjust the bar height if you use a different vehicle? The chain system is easy to adjust, just use a different link.
Hi. Yes you can adjust the bracket height on the trailer, and also fine-tune it on the ball end of the hitch. These are nice because the bars also offer resistance for sway control, whereas the chain style is only for load leveling (from my understanding). Thanks for watching.
Will the hitch brake if the vehicle is going’s through a big valley turning into a gas station and the back of the trailer drags? The vehicle and trailer make a “v”.
in extreme cases it can pop the spring bar out of the hitch. This usually damages the hitch, not the bar. I know this because when i was appx 12, our family was on vacation towing a 28 ft travel trailer behind a station wagon and father took the exit from a gas station wrong, dropping the rear wheels of the station wagon into the gutter as the front wheels were approaching the road crest and the trailer wheels were near the high point of the gas station entrance/exit. It popped one spring bar out. You can apply a LOT of tension to the bars when connecting the trailer to the toe vehicle by using the trailer tongue jack to lift the tow vehicle's wheels off the ground. Hook the chains on the spring bars as tight as you can get the springs pulled up. When you lower the tongue and back of the tow vehicle it will amplify the tension. Father used this method every time, so the effect amplified by the depression he drove across in the worst way possible put some REALLY extreme loads on the spring bars. Note also there are 3 versions of the spring bar hitches I know of. We were using the REESE version that is easiest to work with and has the weakest hitch casting and cast ends on the spring bars. I now use the Reese version with the 90 deg curved spring bar. The version in this video is the 3rd version.
Hi Juan. This system has an integrated anti sway function. But if you have a seperate anti-sway, it's best to remove it before backing into campsite or other maneuvering. Thanks for watching. -Ed
How’d you know how many washers to place to give you the proper seating? Or are they just used to adjust in increments smaller than the space between the shank’s holes?
Great video thanks. I’m currently installing but need additional tools. What size sockets and wrench did you use fir the hitch ball and hitch? Also how did you rest the ball mount on the shank in beginning? Thanks.
I have the same year truck, I had to have condenser replaced along with an oil pressure solenoid or something. Thankfully all under warranty at the time. Have you towed the Kubota with it?
Yes I have. I need a bigger landscape trailer thought. I replaced my AC condenser last summer. Not under warranty. Went with a $66 condenser from eBay. So far so good! Thanks for watching!
I just had this hitch installed on my KZ 180TH toy hauler and my Nissan Frontier. It seemed a lot easier than the Equalizer that I had on my F250/travel trailer. The stabilizer arms were a pain in the butt to deal with. I drove about 1500 miles from San Angelo Texas back to my home in Vero Beach, FL. The Husky appeared to work well, but toward the end of my trip, that horrendous "metal on metal" sound kicked in. It sounded like some type of African animal bellowing a roar. Very loud and annoying. I'm going to go with some lubrication the next time I go out and I'm open to suggestions as to how to minimize the noise. I was told by the Tech that installed the hitch that there should be a 1 inch differential between the top of the ball receiver and the top of the ball. BTW, I think the ball measures 2 5/16" versus 2". UPDATE: I took my KZ 180TH back to a local dealer to install a power tongue jack and I was told that the weight distribution hitch setup was not done properly by the original dealer, which caused the horrible metal grinding sound. ALWAYS drive your camper BEFORE you leave the area in order to test the hitch and adjustments can be made. I was charged $ 75 or 1/2 hour to make the correct adjustments and the selling dealer reimbursed me after seeing the pictures taken to correct the original install.
We just got this hitch installed by the dealership where we purchased our trailer. Seems to work great, however it is loud when turning forwards or backwards like something is going to break! Is this normal?
The friction bars do make noise. But that's now the anti-sway works, so yes it's normal. Lubricating it would counter the anti-sway function. Thanks for watching!
Hello ... I do have the same system .But pne of my torsion bar is extremely hard to swivel to put it in place I need to use a tube as a pry bar ... Is there a torque spec for those ? Thanks
Excellent video thanks! I just purchased a Wolf Pup ~ 4000 lbs dry and wasn't sure I needed this but you convinced me. One thing I don't get is how hard is it to take off once you are setup at campsite? Also, its been a year, in that time did you notice an improvement in sway?
The biggest tip is to use the jack to raise the rear of the vehicle while the WD bars are still in place. That will make them easier to remove. Disclaimer here... I sold that rig soon afterward so I didn't get to use it much. But it definitely did tow a little better, and the sway control gave me more peace of mine. My new (used) camper is bigger and came with a WDH that has the chains and separate anti-sway device. It works, but is not as convenient as this Husky system. Good luck and thanks for watching!
A couple corrections 1. You don’t use those hardened washers to set the height of the ball. How many of those are used is determined by the frame size of your trailer. Typically two washers for a 4-5” frame, 3 washers fora 6” or bigger frame. That angels the bars appropriately based on your frame size. You set the height of the ball 1” above your hitch coupler but you do this with the different slots of the hitch. 2. You use the 2 black compression washers on the top bolt, not one on each bolt like you did.
@@MyClutteredGarage If you read the instructions more carefully you would find that only the nut on the bottom of the ball gets torgued to 380 ft-lbs. Those 3/4" nuts and bolts in the sides of the hitch only get torqued to 260 ft-lbs. My Craftsman 1/2" drive torque wrench goes to 250.
Question: The instructions do say to torque the bolts to 350 lbs. Did you have a torque wrench rated that high lying around or if not, how did you do it? I bought the same wdh and plan to install it myself, but only have a torque wrench rated at 150.
That’s a lot, right? Maybe just tighten the heck out of the bolts and check them on occasion. Once you are satisfied with the setup, maybe just ask a local automotive shop to torque them for you. Thank you for watching.
Have you or anyone on here broke the l brackets that is on the trailer that the bar slides on? I have broke 2 on my driver side and trying to figure out why? Husky told me I must have had a bad mold but that seems a little weird to me that I broke 2 of them so far
@@paden501 I solved mine. I noticed the weight transfer to the front was just a tiny bit off. Adjusting the hitch or the U, wouldn't have helped. In my case all I needed to do was add 1 washer. Boom! Not perfectly quiet but it is no longer embarrassing driving the loop to get to the parking spot. Sometimes it makes nearly no noise at all.
mine does the same thing. It creaks and groans especially on harder corners and at low speed. People have said something to me when I back into a site, it seems like that's typical of these??
Mine did too. The make 4 models of this exact same hitch, each rated for different weight loads. They look and install nearly identical, but there are small differences. Judging by the size of his trailer, I'm guessing he's got one of the lower weight models.
Thank you for sharing, good content on this one. One question, how do you take the hitch off with the spring load bars attached?
Thanks very much. You take the bars off using the same tool and process. Just raise the truck to relieve tension, flip the tool over and pry in the opposite direction. Sorry I didn’t show that! 👍
No. You put them on last and take them off first before you un hitch the ball.

The version in this video is the 3rd version.
Question do you need to take anything off before backing up the tráiler ??
No
@@mattscott7751 thanks Matt what about if it has one of those sway links that lock
Hi Juan. This system has an integrated anti sway function. But if you have a seperate anti-sway, it's best to remove it before backing into campsite or other maneuvering. Thanks for watching. -Ed
@@MyClutteredGarage thanks Ed you guys answered my questions know I know what to buy and how to install it 👍👍
How’d you know how many washers to place to give you the proper seating? Or are they just used to adjust in increments smaller than the space between the shank’s holes?
Yes they are more for incremental adjustments. Might take some trial and error. Thanks for watching!
Great video thanks. I’m currently installing but need additional tools. What size sockets and wrench did you use fir the hitch ball and hitch?
Also how did you rest the ball mount on the shank in beginning? Thanks.
1’ 7/8 socket
I have the same year truck, I had to have condenser replaced along with an oil pressure solenoid or something. Thankfully all under warranty at the time. Have you towed the Kubota with it?
Yes I have. I need a bigger landscape trailer thought. I replaced my AC condenser last summer. Not under warranty. Went with a $66 condenser from eBay. So far so good! Thanks for watching!
I have the same setup. It's super noisy on turns. Are you getting the same thing?
That’s pretty common as the parts wear together. You could repaint the surfaces but that will only be temporary.
@@MyClutteredGarage Ours also makes a lot of noise. Very loud banging noise that i don't hear on others.
Hello ... I do have the same system .But pne of my torsion bar is extremely hard to swivel to put it in place I need to use a tube as a pry bar ... Is there a torque spec for those ? Thanks
I'm actually not sure, but do you jack up the truck and trailer after the ball is locked? That makes it easier.
Did you load your camper with water etc. ? Great video. Thanks.
Thanks very much, John. I did load the fresh water tank, which it at the front of this camper.
Good luck and thanks for watching!
what measurement did you put the brackets at on the tounge? 30"?
I’m sorry but I don’t recall. I have since sold that camper. Appreciate you watching.
A couple corrections
Thanks for your comments!
Ed great video . How did your get your torque to 350 lbs on the hitch ? I really don't want to spend 400 bucks on a super duper torque wrench
I may have just tightened it as much as humanly possibly with a breaker bar and pipe. #behindthescenes 😄
Note: The weight distribution hitch will give better steering authority, but it will NOT make up for bad balance of the trailer.
my hitch makes a lot of sounds while driving down the road. What am I doing wrong?
Apparently that's not uncommon with this friction type sway control devices.
What size and weight is your trailer that you pull with your 150?
It’s about 2,500 lbs. light enough for even a mid size SUV.
@@MyClutteredGarage It's light. But better safe than sorry. Most people would not put a weight distribution hitch until they loose the trailer.
How do you remove it??
Is your Husky incredibly loud?
I haven't traveled enough to really wear it in, but I understand they can get loud as the paint wears off the contact points.
USPS limit is 70 lbs. Ups is more.
Have you or anyone on here broke the l brackets that is on the trailer that the bar slides on? I have broke 2 on my driver side and trying to figure out why? Husky told me I must have had a bad mold but that seems a little weird to me that I broke 2 of them so far
Hi Donald. I sold this rig shortly after making this video so I didn't get much hightway time on it. Thanks for watching. -Ed
Mine hasn't broke but it is incredibly loud. Trying to figure out why, so watching a lot of YT videos and reading up on as much as I can.
@@malifestro3319 Mine is suuuper loud also.
Mine squeaks and grinds and makes terrible sounds when turning .😒😒
That's not uncommon because of the design and resistance. I guess you can tell its working!
mine does the same thing. It creaks and groans especially on harder corners and at low speed. People have said something to me when I back into a site, it seems like that's typical of these??
That wasn't IRISH SIRI, LOL ! ENGLISH SIRI is more like it ! Lol, but close enough ! 😁
My gmc 1500 denali, can tow a 14,30 lbs 40 foot travel trailer, because of the husky tow hitch.
Hahahahahaha
Mine came with these washers with teeth.
Mine did too. The make 4 models of this exact same hitch, each rated for different weight loads. They look and install nearly identical, but there are small differences. Judging by the size of his trailer, I'm guessing he's got one of the lower weight models.
Don't think the front is to be lower than your height with no load. You may need to remove a washer.
