This really wasn't a fair comparison. And I feel like you missed the point of the lack of true antagonists in Haikyuu. Seriously, it was spelled out in a s1 episode! Karasuno are the protagonists of Haikyuu, but in the other teams' stories, THEY are the protagonists, whether they win or lose. In the end, every single character are all just dorks who love volleyball with all their hearts, whatever their reasons may be, whatever team they're a part of. Part of Haikyuu's appeal to so many people is that it doesn't just focus on the emotions of one team. When Karasuno whens, it makes you feel so proud of these boys of course, but also so sad for the opposing team. That's part of what draws so many people in.
I agree when Karasuno won against Aobajohsai I was happy as hell and sad at the same time for Oikawa and his team. You end up cheering for both of them.
I feel like you’ve kind of missed the entire point of Haikyuu. Because you said that the antagonists doesn’t get any development, when it’s what the series is built upon. The entire point of Haikyuu is the characters and their own struggles, including the opposing teams. Throughout all of Haikyuu you see the motivations of everyone and what drives them, even teams that doesn’t even matter in the long run, and that’s why the show is so great imo. Also, Haikyuu handles the female cast a lot better than KnB, because they aren’t just super sexy characters there as eye candy and have their own motivations outside of the team’s.
I have no idea what I’m doing with my life yes I just I could not do knb The characters do have a more generic “bishie/ikemen” cast than haikyu imo But that aside...idk when they got to the games they felt so long and boring In haikyu, even the long running games kept me invested and on the edge my seat and I could get very into it I like the sense of comedic relief and the character dynamics of haikyu more as well Knb was ok but tbh it felt more like cliche anime in certain aspects...idek what to call it but it’s less appealing to me 🤷🏻♀️ Haikyu imo does great with its characters Even lesser characters are lovable, as for they other teams...it’s hard not to root for them too Everyone has their own struggles regardless of what team it is Winners vs losers, it’s super hype for the winners but it’s a sad time for the losers Even if it’s not our main focus team Karasuno, you cannot help but feel sad for the opposing team I’m not even interested in sports but haikyu keeps me invested Tbh there’s a newer anime ahiru no sora, which has similar dynamics imo, but it’s not the same level of hype to me as haikyu but I still enjoy it It’s basketball tho and I definitely prefer it over knb
Neither does particularly well with the female characters. But, well, they are sports anime featuring a male team sport, so no surprise there. But yeah, I was kind of surprised aber the vid because in my mind, Haikyuu is miles ahead in terms of character development and creating tension. I am even interested in the training arcs in Haikyuu.
I agree with your main point but also KnB's females aren't just super sexy characters there as eye candy either. While Momoi might fill that spot, Riko takes on a much more active role as the team's coach. There's also Kagami's mentor Alexandra Garcia and Yosen's female coach, who really can't be counted as "eye candy" either. Of course, the females are more fleshed out in Haikyuu, but it's not as if the females in KnB are just flat either.
it's because haikyuu's mangaka is probably female, generally u can kinda tell when a Shounen manga is written by a female mangaka bcs they don't over sexualise female characters
@@bostinobaddog2040 kageyama is also 16 and for sure he doesn't look younger, kuroo ist 17 and doesn't look younger than that and many more. In reallife there is always some 16 year olds that look way too young for their age (look at leonardo dicaprio with 16) so hinata is fine with 16.
I liked Haikyuu for one big reason that you didn't mention. Haikyuu lets us learn about Volleyball as a sport, where Kuroko no Basket fails to tell us much about Basketball. The plays they make in Haikyuu are all very fleshed out, and they're all very real. But in Kuroko No Basket, we don't really get much of that. They instead show us a guy who can see anything on the court without looking.
Basketball isn't very big in Japan, at least as an actual spectator sport. Baseball and soccer are easily the most popular. Sumo is probably pretty high up there too.
Da Bro Actually it is. Specially after the premiere of Slam Dunk, which is one of Shonen Jump's best selling manga of all time. It sold more than Yu Yu Hakusho and Rurouni Kenshin.
yeah true,.....haikyuu made me appreciate volleyball.....i mean i like basket ball.....but i never thought volleyball is fun too....i thought its for girls only but...i tried it its way to exciting for some reason....i like volleyball now thanks to haikyuu
eXACTLY!!! i actually learnt the positions in volleyball from haikyuu, and began playing the sport itself, so i guess it really does show you how to play the game, like a human. whilst, kuroko no basket doesn't really do much to teach us about how to play the sport it's showcasing. not everyone is a mega badass arrogant asshole who is incredibly talented.
I mean yeah literally I can barely think of anyone I mean there’s only Kenma, Kuroo, bokuto, Aone, ushiwaka, tendo, kindaichi, kunimi, oikawa, koganegawa......... nah i can’t think of anyone honestly
"Haikyuu does have _at least_ one enemy team who stands out with a bunch of memorable characters." What do you mean _one._ I mean, let me just pull out the list of times that I rode the high of Karasuno winning, only to be emotionally Decapitated when I realised that the opposing team that I, somehow, along the way got emotionally attached to without even realising; has lost.
AkiraN well put. Haikyuu makes you feel for every single opponent Karasuno faces, even from the first match of the inter high when Daichi is forced to beat his former Junior High teammate. Even teams like Johzenji that have very limited relevance to the plot are overflowing with so much heart and personality you cant help but be sad to see them defeated.
xairant, if you haven't seen it, i believe there's an ova (or at the very least some extra scenes) that gives oikawa and iwaizumi as well as the rest of seijoh's 3rd years a send off.
season three. Tsukishima's block against Ushijima's spike. That one scene was so SO emotional. Edit: now we have Hinata’s receive, Tanaka cross spiking, Hinata slowing the pace of the game (when he yells “ALL RIGHT!” 🥺), tbh just all the intense moments in S4.
Iman Afandy man people can like or dislike whatever they want. Here, I’ll list a couple: - The first fuckin episode where Hinata goes to spike even though their team is losing by 20 points - Karsuno v Date Tech (especially Asahi vs the iron wall) - Every time Hinata and Kageyama do an insane quick - Oikawa nearly receiving Hinata’s spike but Karasuno takes the win season 2 - Every time Oikawa or Ushijima serves - Karasuno’s win against Shiratorizawa and going to nationals - All of Bokuto’s line shots - Hinata learning how to read volleyball and using his position as a ball boy to become better at receiving But even if I list this and you don’t like Haikyuu, that’s okay because everyone has their own opinion. I just hope you don’t shit on other people for liking something you don’t.
“Claims haikyuu doesn’t let you know a important match is happening” the seijoh game was literally built up by multiple aspects a personal rivalry between setters and a sort of passing the torch type thing and the growth of karasuno after their first loss to seijoh
Brett's Hair well said my man honestly the build up during the Tokyo camp with the constant theme of “to evolve you can’t go on the defensive” perfectly entails karasunos play style is future games this guys clueless
@@nighthawkjinesh7849Trueeee I swear this dude is better off just making a vid about KnB and leaving Haikyuu alone but nooo..... He didn't even pay attention and apparently just watched S1(hopefully he has watched the entire series by now bc it's great) As someone who likes both shows, this video is..... Ehhhhhh
Fr. Shiratorizawa and Wakunan was already mentioned back in S1. While Kiryu and Sakusa who belongs in nation’s Top 3 aces were mentioned in S2. That’s why I was so surprised and taken a back when he said that bs.
6:07 bet ya never watched actual high school vball huh? Dude haikyuu’s characters literally compete for the nationals!!!! Do you even know what normal means?!
They go to a power school no and the tournament was like 32 teams 5 game playoffs sounds pretty boring (Keep in mind I play high level ice hockey nationals are like nothing to a lot of guys)
@@JaxReds which is exactly why it's so good the way you see it the characters in haikyuu are very passionate about playing nationals and renowning thier title, which if you actually watched it you would know that they were not a no.1 school anymore so they had too work for it so honestly if your guys don't really care about good chances like nationals then I don't think you care about the game as much as some fictional anime characters
m o o n all that development for the other team members and the sudden but very well done development of the mad dog made me not want either to win, just like when Shiratorizawa was against the ‘Iron Wall’, I wanted bough to win so they could both go against Karasuno.
Don't even talk about Tsukki's block against Ushiwaka, the fact that Haikyuu could generate this much hype just because of a single block, not even a spike, a mf BLOCK. I swear that moment just brought me to tears and had me screaming like a dumbass in my room.
when he said female characters are not so "important" in haikyuu i choked lmaoo have you seen how kiyoko saved karasuno's ass by fetching hinata's shoes?
If we talking three years ago where s4 wasn’t out then how about yachi. If hinata hadn’t convinced yachi to stand up to her mom and telling her that’s she’s gonna join the club, they wouldn’t have improved as much. Kageyama and Hinata might’ve not improved their grades and went to Tokyo. (Also the recruiting posters that yachi made)
I think Haikyuu handled their female characters WAY better than KnB. They didn't fill in important roles like a coach, but they weren't a joke. Momoi and Alexandra were mostly just there for 1) fanservice and 2) help the male characters. In the story, Yachi didn't just help the other characters when she created an advertisement to find a sponsor, the club helped HER find her passion and confidence. She's also very cute, and is never told she has to be sexy by the other characters (unlike what they did with Riko).
"That said, I COULD easily see some of the viewers preferring the straightforward characters in Haikyuu as they might be easier for the average person to project themselves onto" *Woah that's harsh mate, it hit pretty deep you know.*
Blueberry Milk I was looking for this comment, thanks! At first I was like, “well, you don’t like Haikyuu, that’s fair, I don’t agree with you, but hey, you’re entitled to your opinion, and then he said this, and I was like, “Duuuuuuuuuuude! Really? REALLY?!”
@@chukaceresany160 literally,, so much of the video is obviously biased and that's one thing but whatever but this was just a bit too unnecessary 😅 mans rlly out here calling half of the viewers on this video average 😂
Its harsh but hes not wrong, knb is based on really famous moves/ppl and the fact that the kiseiki no sedai is a miracle themselves add more to the fact that they were meant to be superior in the sport, so normal people may relate lesser. It's okay to admit that you are less superior. Humans may exceed their limits, but they should not be too greedy and go too far or they will wear themselves away; everyone in society have their own place for them themselves to find. Not saying theres no geniuses in Haikyuu tho(no shit the first scene in ep1 we see one already lol) but you must give it to knb for painting such presence in their characters which shouts "I'm a genius, thou art not required", I mean... look at Aomine the one man army, Akashi the commander who makes the army... they really give a different atmosphere from Haikyuu which paints the flow in Haikyuu and knb differently, thus even if both are sports anime, they are very different. Must say I do prefer knb's execution as an anime tho, really enjoyed the basketball matches.
kinda offended that you put a kagehina doujin at 1:06 instead of an actual official haikyuu pic like you did with knb :/ kinda made me realize where this video would be headed :/
Apparently only the first season and as for the second season, he had his brother tell him about it. I kinda hate him for making a comparison video without even knowing about both of them
It’s interesting you said Haikyuu characters look like kids. I mean... of course they do, they’re in high school LOL. It was more jarring for me to watch KnB characters looking like they’re in their mid twenties or older hahah
Hahaha yeah haikyuu is very realistic and i like the design but there are some exceptions like asahi and ushijima they are looking so old but it makes it even better cause they mention it in the show like: look the ace from karasuno he looks like an adult...
"haikyuu does a bad job of generating hype" The millions of fans out there: IM SO HYPED FOR S4 I dont think ur statement is valid there, sorry, that's more of a subjective matter than a quality one. Just because it didnt cause hype for you doesnt mean it wont for others
I think you miss understood what I he meant. I think he meant that Kuroko no Basket set the opponents that they had to face from the beginning, and the whole time when you're watching the series you were waiting for those matches which generated a lot of hype. At least that's what I'm pretty sure he meant. And that's not saying that Haikyuu!! doesn't generate hype, hell no! Haiykuu!!! has a crap ton of hype!!! But speaking of the point I mentioned earlier it is true that in Haikyuu!!! you're discovering who is there to face so In my opinion the hype isn't there before we know who to face because we don't even know who to get hyped for! Now that's not correct for the later part of the series because we get introduced to Neko and the other teams but sadly that's for season 4 which wasn't released at the time of this video. Also I as I was saying the hype isn't there before BUT the hype get blown away inside the matches. Now for Kuroko the hype was set from the very beginning of the series, and when I was watching I couldn't wait to get to see those characters who were hyped up a lot actually play! So basically I think there's a difference between "Having hype" and "Generating Hype" or at least that's how I think of it x). I hope you get what I mean, and btw i love both series and I think they're so good in their own ways and everybody should watch both :D Also another thing that has to be mentioned is that Haikyuu!!! is not done yet! So we still have a lot to see and I'm really excited for this new season! I hope you have a good day or night! Sorry for the long reply, thanks for reading and have a good one (>^w^)/ ~!!!
FireStarJutsu thanks for taking the time to write this :D its nice to see other opinions too. i know kuroko is rlly good too, as ive watched it all and i really enjoyed it. but the video did outright mention stuff abt the hype haikyuu generates, which hurt me a little. i totally get what u mean, and i agree, with haikyuus storyline. but it doesnt mean that no hype is created through this method, perhaps its just another kind, or it appeals to different people. i still stand by my original thought, that the “fact” that haikyuu doesnt generate hype is very subjective tho, and its not fair to say it in this kinda context/video! hope this clarifies stuff up x
@@chiani6596 I totally get what you mean, but I guess that doesn't matter at this point. Both series are great, and most importantly we both enjoyed them both 😄 I was just recently watching some reactions to KnB, and oooh I forgot how good it was honestly. Remember Kagami and Aomine going zone cs each other? That looked craaaazy! Also when Akashi got introduced? That shit was lit! Akashi breaking ankles? Damn that was amazing. And when Akashi went zone? Aw man so much excitment! Now I can't wait to see what Haikyuu season 4 has in store for us! Because I didn't read the manga and been waiting for season 4 ever since! They took their time, and I hope it turns out to be great! I have high expectations!
@@FireStarJutsu OML OML THE THING U SAID ABT KNB SO ACCURATE YALL i did have a great time watching it i was dYING to meet Akashi and bAM HE APPEARED AND HE WAS SO COOL- And yes Haikyuu S4's really getting me :DD especially to see hinata's fURTHER DEVELOPMENT, on top of what I have alr seen. I don't think I can be any more proud of how far hes come 😭
The characters are kind of similar, like Kiyoshi and Asahi both third year aces that came back to the team after some tragic event. Kuroko and Kagami and Hinata and Kageyama, powerful duos. Kuroko and Hinata both suck at the basics of their sport but have some amazing hidden talent.
@@timothy4077 meh still not similar. If that's your standards of saying that this both shows are the same then I can compare Haikyuu with every sports genre show I know. Sports genre shows have that kind of plot already 🤔
Haikyuu is the only anime I’ve really watched that made me feel bad for the other teams to loose and watching Tsukis blocking of Ushijima and having Bokuto (an opposing ace from a opposing team) having his voice saying how a single moment that’s Epic will have you hooked on the sport is just so satisfying to see him grow as a person and I love the opposing teams especially Bokuto, Kurro, And Oikawa and Iwaizumi. So I think it’s not true that the other teams get much development. It’s not true because Kemma and Hinata have become good friends texting each other and Kurro and Daichi having that to rivalry and For Nekoma get Lev, Yaku, Kurro, Kenma, and its always funny to watch them interact.
@@ayoooowasg Like seriously my heart broke every time one of the generation of miracles lost because they seriously cried and it was so depressing to watch especially when shuutoku lost to rakuzan and takao was crying about being powerless or when murasakibara started crying. That was all depressing.
The crow metaphor at the start of the tournament in season 2 was amazing where Hinata jumped really high and matched him with the wings of the crow. That was really well done.
"no logical explanation" You are obviously playing dumb or never payed attention the entirety of the show for you to honestly claim this "superpower" 1.Digi already explained why this is bs and 2.There are actual nba players even today who can do this (Obviously not with as much consistency) "homo-erotic body interactions" Fucking where? Clearly that is a comment that centres around the elitism disgust and bias against, of sports anime that have the qualities of appealing to a female centric audience and the supernatural appearance of a character's abilities. As Kuroko no Basuke contain both these qualities, it would be obvious that you would create an attack on it. While I concur on the idea of the exaggeration of the Generation of Miracles skills, most people would find the idea fun hence the reason why the trope of a "power boost out of no where" has been used consistently through out the Shounen genre that reflects the general desire of young men being able to overcome anything they desire. And even though Kuroko no Basuke is centric around a male heavy cast, it does not mean that most of their moments is directed towards a female audience even though the mangaka may or may not be aware them, his audience is strictly directed towards young men between the ages of 10-18 otherwise his manga wouldn't be released by Shounen Jump. Most sports anime have a male heavy cast anyway because most sports in real life only contain of one gender (some anime examples are: Eyeshield 21, Ookiku Furikabutte, Free!, Prince of Tennis, Baby Steps, Haikyuu!! and Ace of the Diamond), and if there were many girls in them, it would take away the focus of sports or the characters playing the sports. You have heavy homophobic views, and therefore can only see the supposedly overly affectionate moments between the boys rather than seeing a brief scene that reflects their trust or hope (such as D Gray Man), and these type of scenes can be scene between a boy and a girl but is often mistaken for the possibility for romance to fruition. Sports anime are not the only ones that consist of a male heavy cast, plain Shounen anime do this too such as Home Tutor Hitman, One Punch Man, Beelzebub and probably many other Shounen anime who have made it seem like they have many girls in their anime but its actually just the two. Why bother watching the video about something you know you are going to hate?

Grim Affiliations that may be so but he also only personally watched haikyuu’s first season. i feel his interpretation is not at all complete to form an opinion
19:23 seriously the confrontation between ushiwaka and hinata didn't gave you a hint . And if you didn't notice , in haikyuu every antagonist backstory is clearly developed.
Clearly developed in coping kuroko, Haikyuus “story and characters are better” huh I could have sworn that kaikyuu copies the effect that kuroko had, you know like how kuroko is bad at basket but is good at it when teaming with kagame and haikyuu later saw that and decided to do the exact same thing with orange kuroko, not to mention the deep story that haikyuu has when they legit just solve their veggies disadvantage they face in just a mere episode hhhmmmm or it’s just “better” cause they manage to win and achieve their goal in by the end of the season leaving nothing to hype about for the next season hmmmm yea nah haikyuu just copies kuroko and somehow managed to make it worse lmao
@@s3aud854 I just love how broken the English and spelling is man. Are you sure Hq!! copied KnB? Like have you actually watched both anime fully fleshed like it's a new experience? So if you want to say something, please do state your opinion in proper English and spelling. Until then, your opinion seem pretty invalid to me as I see you don't read the manga for HQ!! as well, to have the full experience to compare both anime, read the manga because it's so much more detailed in the pain the characters go through. I will try to respect your opinion but you're not doing your own justice.
@@s3aud854 if you think Hq is copycat than you're watching the anime all wrong, characters are far more fleshed out making you want every character to have a victory. Kuroko is literally super talented, Hinata can't play by himself because it's not his play style and lack of experience, he attempts to find his own footing and had a fallout with Kageyama. KnB imo is sports DragonBallZ overrated.
This video has so many wrong points that I honestly don't know how it got so many likes and so few dislikes. This is coming from a fan of both Haikyuu AND KnB, btw. I REALLY love KnB, and Seirin vs. Rakuzan will forever be one of the best "final battles" in anime I've ever watched, but Haikyuu surpasses KnB in quite literally every aspect of what makes an anime good.
That’s easy because they’re mostly blinded KnB fans actually liking this vid. Coming from someone who used to be one, i would’ve done the same IF I never watched Haikyuu. But I did and it opened my eyes to point that I can tell this whole vid is mostly completely bias bullshit being spewed
No hype ? "A tall, tall wall looms in front of me. What's the view on the other side ? What does it look like ? The view from the top... It's a view I could never see on my own. But if I'm not doing it alone... I might be able to see it." "I'm Hinata Shoyo, from the concrete. I'm going to beat you and go to the Nationals." No characters development ? "It was just one block. It was just one point out of 25. This is just a club." "I won't apologize anymore. I won't throw any more tosses that I have to apologize for ! " Boring ? "Hinata's aura... It's what I felt the first time I first played against him. His overwhelming presence at the critical moment... As if he's saying, "I'm here. Give me the ball." He's calling me ! " "I want to be in it. I want to be in it. I want to be in it. I want to be in the game ! I want to stay here longer ! I want to stay here with these guys ! Give me the thrill of the court. I want to fight longer with these guys ! Let me feel out of breath, let me stand here ! I want to touch the ball ! I want to fight ! I want to throw up a toss with my hands ! Over and over ! Then... We'll win the match that's right in front of us !" No interesting antagonist ? "We are the protagonists of the world !" "If you're gonna hit it, hit it until it breaks." "I've never made many friends. I'm not good with people and I don't want to interact with them. An yet I'm very concerned about what others think about me." "All of our practices, experience, and strategies are being broken by force. Well, I guess the actual path to victory doesn't matter. The one that lets the ball fall on the court loses. That's everything." "The chance to let your talent truly blossom, perhaps it's today. Or maybe, it's tomorrow, the day after tomorrow, or next year. Or perhaps even when you're 30 ? In regards to physique, I can't say much. But if you yourself think that you don't have talent, then you'll probably never have it." "No matter how capable you lot may be, you'll see that we never weaken." "Keep on breaking them... What, you say ? Their hearts ! Keep on shattering them... What, you say ? Their spirits !"
"Not nearly as much time is spent on showcasing their opponents teams." And yet I felt infinitely more connected to those side team than I did to even the main protagonists team in KnB, and that's why it could never measure up to Haikyuu for me. I mean, whereas in Haikyuu I would watch those two teams fight and I wouldn't know who to cheer for, because if I had any say in it I would want *both* of them to win, but in KnB I would just wait for whoever comes up with the most op and ridiculous power (and know that it's like 99,9% going to be Seirin because main character shield bullshit am I right?) In KnB it feels like the Generation of Miracles is everything and nothing exists outside of it, but Haikyuu goes out of its way to show that the story of the main characters is just the story that we as the viewers focus on and that there is more beyond that. And I mean, I'm not saying that exactly that is the correct way to do things and that anything else is wrong (some might not even like that about the show, or might like the exact opposite) But for me that is ultimately more valuable than whatever KnB has going for them.
I agree when Karasuno won against Aobajohsai I was happy as hell and sad at the same time for Oikawa and his team. You end up cheering for both of them and other teams

Also...matches out of nowhere? Dude they had to play Aoba Josai for three times before they could win "officially" and Datekou was foreshadowed more than 8 episodes before actually meeting them... Karasuno has no rivalry except Nekoma? What about Seijou?? What about Shiratorizawa that has been hyped up ever since the first season? Not all rivalries have to center around the main character, especially in a more realistic show like HQ that doesn't have the rest of the cast revolving around them...Oikawa is seen by Kageyama for ages as a rival, but Oikawa has had his eyes set on beating Ushijima at least once in his lifetime for 6 years...and in the end loses without a chance to avenge himself for the last time. We all have to remind ourselves that most of the characters in Hq have a much more HEALTHY, FRIENDLY,RIVALRY,unlike those of knb that, had it not been a sport anime, would have been at each other troaths at every chance (and...well...one got close to it...),I mean...the world is not ending if you lose?!?!?. Nekoma is a really strong school that creams Karasuno every time they have a match, does that mean they won't also be friends off the court? Hinata texts Kenma regularly,Kuroo teaches Blocking 101 to Tsukki at training camp,Hinata and Aone become bow buddies after Datekou is defeated... uoa,can you believe it? They almost seem like human beings!! But again, what did I expect from someone that pretends to compare two series while also hating on one of them? And i had such high hopes for this video...*sighs* Please note that i love Kuroko with all my heart, even more deeply than Hq since i actually followed the knb manga from when it only had 6 chapters available up to the end (yes, more than 5 years of commitment..) and all of it's characters are dear to me in ways that most other spokon won't be able to replicate...but i'm not blind to it's fault, it's the product of a literal beginner's luck, the author was really inexperienced in a lot of things at the start...i bet if he could rewrite it all the story would be COMPLETELY different with the new experience he got in all these years (you just need to compare the first chapter to one of the lasts...HOly SHIt),so please try to see my point of view.
Also you're contradicting yourself so many times in this video... How can you accuse Haikyuu of developing only a couple of people per team...when the whole *POINT* of Kuroko is to focus on only two characters for each team? Can you tell me the name of any other character other than the gom and ONE teammate for each of them (Aomine doesn't even have that)? I bet the casual fan can't (I'm not a casual fan, yet i can't remember for the life of me the names of Yosen team, except obviously for Murasaki and Himuro),now, in Nekoma, you all remember Kuroo and Kenma, after thinking about it,you remember that,OH RIGHT,Lev is also from Nekoma right? (If you are a fan you remember also Yaku,Inuoka, that always gets forgotten even though he got a bit more spotlight,Taketora and Shibayama), Let's go to Seijou.. well obviously Oikawa right? And his best friend of a lifetime, ace of the team Iwaizumi right? OH and the mad dog right? AHAHA that crazy dude also go a lot of spotlight even tought he is from an enemies team right? And who was that even crazier dude that slammed him into a wall?Mmmmh...(it's Yahaba, also future captain, just so you know),oh,and weren't two of Kageyama's old teammates also there? Turnip Head and Lazy Dude? (Kindaichi and Kunimi) How many of them were actually developed... oh right, ALMOST ALL OF THEM??!?! Now,i'm not saying that knb doestn't develop as much his enemies team (except i'm totally saying that),but let's look at the fact,i like Tohou, but how many of you remember Imaiyoshi or Sakurai? And that team has some of the most interesting characters overall... Seriously except Rakuzan, that is all made of important and memorable characters (I'd expect no less from the final boss) ,how many people do you remember outside of the "Duo" of every team?. But generally speaking, how can you even start to draw a comparisons between series that have only the sport element in common? Ok at the beginning knb goals seem to match those of Hq,but as the story goes on and we learn more about all the shit the GoM did in middle school,it becomes crystal clear that at least Kuroko's goal from the very beginning was to "redeem" his old teammates, and to do so he dragged along Kagami.Winning the Winter Cup was a "collateral effect" you could say.We also can't draw a comparison on the general plot,or theme because one is finished, all it's points tied up and good to go,but Karasuno (if you watch the anime) still has to get on the nationals or (if you read the manga) still has to play in it. Can we talk about how much of an asspull Kyoshi is? Seriously, the author at some point realized that to have a *Reason* to win *right now* as opposed to next year he had to create drive-drama in a school with only at max second years in it,and here comes Kyo and his Uncrowned kings crew... (don't misunderstand me though,i love Kyoshi and especially Hanamiya to death...)(Sorry for this final rant, just had to get it off my chest)
Animely0 Animely0 you should watch the video he made about haikyuu on his Digi after dark channel, he goes into a lot more detail about the issues he had as he's watching it, might clear up a few things
Ricky Tripp Oh yes I already saw that video some weeks ago, didn't know it was the same person, honestly now that I know it only makes me more confused as to why someone like him that had to try for like 3 three times to get into Haikyuu went and made a video about it,comparing it to an anime that he actually liked,I really don't get the reason. He found the characters boring and the plot uninteresting and unoriginal,I'm really surprised he actually finished it seeing the other video he made about it (or did he finish it? Because some of the stuff he said made me wonder...). I'm sorry, but I won't accept a comparison if it's not made by someone that actually appreciates both animes and understand the differences and sees pros and cons of BOTH,not just Haikyuu. (Maybe it was me,but I saw a lot of bias towards knb). I would love to actually do a video myself about the argument, because it's something that has been on my mind a lot, the differences and the similarities of these two animes are so interesting and make a really compelling argument, but unfortunately I don't have neither the ability nor the equipment to do it myself, that's why this video was such a letdown... I finally thought someone had made the video *I* wanted to make for the longest time and then he says these things...
Wow you *really* need to relax when it comes to your precious Haikyuu. No anime is perfect, let the guy air his criticism in peace. He took equally many jabs at KnB too.
Agreed. Although he really tried to be objective and I commend him for that, but I felt like there was a definite bias in making one show's weakness not look so bad, while placing a particular way of story telling look like a fault when it is simply a preference. It stumped me for a bit there. I only understood when he admitted in the end that he actually preferred one and couldn't even stand the other... in which case. this comparison just became worthless. Something like that should have been stated at the beginning. lol And btw, "Hype" is like another name of Haikyuu. It's the most hyped anime ever tbh...
It's a really biased comparison. But Haikyuu made me feel like I am in the middle of the match, and made me feel the emotions you feel in a match. Kuroko no basket is just over the top and loses me as a part of the audience
Haikyuus “story and characters are better” huh I could have sworn that kaikyuu copies the effect that kuroko had, you know like how kuroko is bad at basket but is good at it when teaming with kagame and haikyuu later saw that and decided to do the exact same thing with orange kuroko, not to mention the deep story that haikyuu has when they legit just solve their veggies disadvantage they face in just a mere episode hhhmmmm or it’s just “better” cause they manage to win and achieve their goal in by the end of the season leaving nothing to hype about for the next season hmmmm yea nah haikyuu just copies kuroko and somehow managed to make it worse lmao
@@s3aud854cap lol decoys already exists in sports before Kuroko does, imagine your brain being like this. Haikyuu had a research about volleyball which actually inspired people to play and some even went to Olympics. Kuroko is just exaggerated dramatic basketball
After watching both animes, all I can say is: Kuroko no basket gives me like the energy and all to go to the court and play and do crazy moves that in my head goes well (in any sport) And Haikyuu is very inspirational, and gives me the will to always improve and don't give up in any sport I'm doing. 😸
The fact that Haikyuu is so strong without needing to give it’s characters superpowers or overly dramatic backstories is a testament to its excellent writing and competence regarding the actual sport.
@@pvnchos1478 Well it's good to compare different series to see what's similar and different between them to get a better idea of what each series does well, especially when they're so similar in some areas. But I do understand not wanting to compare series, although I don't see why people are "insecure" for comparing?
As a person who plays competitive basketball I couldn’t get interested in knb. I never felt like I could relate to the plot or characters. And I was never interested in the succeeding, because they’re already super geniuses. And because I actually play the sport my suspension of disbelief was broken the first time the did some physics breaking move. But I really loved haikyuu because they felt like real 15 year olds playing against real teams. And I actually cried several times during haikyuu because I loved the characters and wanted them to succeed. And I never finished knb, so correct me if I’m wrong, but they never really do anything with the different positions in basketball like they do in haikyuu. Which is odd because it would give their characters different bodies and personalities. Cause I’m a center, and the way I play is much different from a post guard.
ik its not realistic I play basketball for but not competitively but cmon who didn't get hyped when the green haired dude scored those insane threes we all know its not realistic but who cares its fun. I think haikyu is the better story overall but knb was more hype
I play a lone-person sport so I never get the feeling of teamwork, but with Haikyuu, i could feel exactly what its like to rely on other people to win. KnB to me was just action based.
This isn't a fair comparison if you're strongly biased to one series. Since Haikyuu 'bore you to tears' you're blinded by your own lack of interest and disregard and miss many parts that make the series great. It shows excruciatingly in this video (and becomes insulting to the fans, as your comments show). It would have been better to just leave this sort of comparison making to someone who enjoys both series. It nearly ends up sounding like you're salty over how much Haikyuu is loved just because you don't get the hype.
Yeah! Honestly, the thing makes most Haikyuu fan salty about this video is that he just biased and clearly didn't have enough interests to explore Haikyuu but he had to go and made this video compare both of these animes when he clearly didn't get through the Haikyuu first. I mean if he just didn't like Haikyuu enough to research fully about it why he made this video? And made them sound like facts? At least laid it as your own opinions dudeeee
dude ur right with that statement. I’m a huge haikyuu fan myself and, before I started watching it I played volleyball and I still do to this day. Listening to him making those totally unfair comparisons like actually ticked me off. Rather if it’s the art style of the anime’s that are different, or to the characters and there development, there both a loved anime in the community so why can’t he act like that? It really just pisses me off.
Yeah, preferring one over the other is natural but someone who doesn't understand the appeal of *both* shows clearly lacks the perspective needed for a fair comparison.
Alternate title: Why I think that KNB is so much better than haikyuu I mean seriously you've only been trying to say good things about KNB and haven't even TRIED to say a good thing about haikyuu Plus if you also read the manga you would change your mind about "Hinata being useless without Kageyama"
Bruh you so right and the fact that Haikyuus “story and characters are better” huh I could have sworn that kaikyuu copies the effect that kuroko had, you know like how kuroko is bad at basket but is good at it when teaming with kagame and haikyuu later saw that and decided to do the exact same thing with orange kuroko, not to mention the deep story that haikyuu has when they legit just solve their veggies disadvantage they face in just a mere episode hhhmmmm or it’s just “better” cause they manage to win and achieve their goal in by the end of the season leaving nothing to hype about for the next season hmmmm yea nah haikyuu just copies kuroko and somehow managed to make it worse lmao cleat you have taste and I respect that dude
@@s3aud854 I have no idea how knb tries to copy Haikyu but I think that Haikyu generates a lot of hype. Sure, I liked KNB but I can't find how Haikyu copied them in any way since they're so different. I personally like Haikyu better because it makes more sense realistically, but if you prefer KNB I respect that.
WenShi Land the whole thing of kuroko being bad at basketball unless he has a team in which case it’s kagame and hinata also being short and bad at the game until he met that black hair guy it’s basically the same thing maybe it’s just me but I just orange kuroko and black hair kagame which makes it repetitive but if you still didt notice the similarities then good for you
⚠️THIS SLIGHTLY BIASED, also take this from the POV of a person who has actually played volleyball before and spent a few days studying Haikyuu and how each scene was delivered and what made each character so appealing⚠️ First of all, Haikyuu’s characters are supposed to look like kids. They’re HIGHSCHOOLERS not 30 yr old men. Of course the characters are going to look different when compared to adults (age wise). Secondly, Haikyuu does give enough time to focus on the opposing teams and it does not have only one memorable team. If you paid attention to Haikyuu, you would’ve noticed the foreshadowing with Dateko and Shiratorizawa. Nekoma is not the most important/relevant opposing team as there are others emphasized as much as Nekoma (Seijoh, Fukurodani, Shiratorizawa, Dateko). And although some teams receives more screen time than others, it’s to emphasize how difficult it is to beat the certain team or how long the match has been going on for. Volleyball doesn’t have a time limit and matches can take more than 1 hour. Third of all, each character in Haikyuu!! Does not have only one ability. If this were true Karasuni would’ve lost every match by now. Although it may seem as if each character can only do one thing in the beginning this is not rue, it’s just that they each have certain things that they are more capable of doing (Kageyama-setter, Hinata-spiker) Nevertheless, they still find ways to overcome this and gain more abilities as the show goes on. (Like how Hinayana gets better at receiving and blocking. The main focus of Haikyuu is not only the realism with the sport, but also the relationships between characters and their development. In the video it was mentioned that it feels like each character improves because of others, which makes sense, because it’s a VOLLEYBALL anime, one of the team sports that puts a big Emphasis on the word TEAM. Haikyuu has even addressed how you only truly feel alone when you’re going to serve, because that’s the only part of the game in which nobody can help you. Fourthly, haikyuu’s visual metaphors are not lacking, and they are very well made, because they are METAPHORS, they’re not showing what’s actually happening, they’re just comparing. For example the crows versus the cats, this is referring to Karasuno (mascot-crows) vs Nekoma (mascot-cats) as they fight for the win, or as in the metaphor, the garbage can. However, knb’s visual metaphors are just there to show how fast a ball was passed or the intensity a character is feeling, which is something Haikyuu can pull off without using metaphors but rather relying on the facial expressions and the animation for when the ball hits the floor (EX-Oikawa’s serve). Fifth of all, what do you mean Haikyuu doesn’t have any hype?! There’s a reason why it has the nickname “Hypekyuu”! The way the anime handles the scenes with most intensity are executed in a way in which the watcher can feel what the characters are going through and it feels almost like watching a real volleyball match. You may have thought the hype was underwhelming bc you were comparing it to an anime that does not go by realistic measures and defies anything an actual person can do. Also, Haikyuu does have many backstories which are intertwined. For example, Asahi and Nishonoya’s and how Asahi was the reason Nishinoya wouldn’t get back into volleyball and why the third years weren’t as motivated with volleyball when the Freshmen first showed up. Another example could be the reason why Oikawa and Kageyama always try to improve is because of their experiences with each other in middle school, and how Oikawa hated Kags bc he was naturally gifted but Okinawa had to work hard to be called an expert setter that gives his team mates their desired sets. Lastly, the reason why Haikyuu is so good overall is because of how engaging each of the characters are. They each have a backstory that shaped them each into who they are now, and they all go through some form of character development, whether it be getting better at serving or finally getting a taste for the game, which is the overall reason why Haikyuu has so many fans. The characters truly feel human, and they each have their own personality which is what distinct from other characters. Edit: I DIDNT NOTICE THE NUMBER OF LIKES THIS GOT WOW,, TY EVERYONE WHO ACTUALLY READ THIS!!
Well yes, Haikyuu is *realistic high school sport club* anime. Meanwhile KNB is *unrealistic super power high school sport club who have this zone power with ikemen faces and in the end the protagonist or good team will won and of course the fangirls will choose ikemen faces over anything* I totally choose realistic story of the high school boys team (who in this story about a school team vs another school team) rather than super power high school boys with ikemen faces (who in this story about a good protagonist teams vs another evil antagonist team which is so unrealistic) I mean I'm on the other side before, (was KNB fans who adore the Kiseki no Sedai's ikemen faces) but when I watch Haikyuu, it hits me hard with their realistic high school sport story. I totally in love even I read the manga (which I never read sports manga before, I prefer watch sports anime more).
i just wanna say: i cant stop re-watching haikyuu.... i first saw it like a month ago and watched all 3 seasons in 3 days and after these 3 days, i watched everyday at least 1 episode of haikyuu!! S2 is my fav
Idk why but I've always loved the characters of Haikyuu. One of my favorite casts in anime by far. I just found it alot more easy to relate to their characters and much more enjoyable to watch. While I dropped KnB before finishing the first season. P.S. No hype? That's the first time I've ever heard someone say that about Haikyuu.
The Hunter x Hunter 2011 Dickriding Association In terms of ability, Haikyuu is much more relatable. As for KnB that's basically trying to relate to DBZ characters.
I just watched the first 5 episodes and KnB is so boring, the quality, the characters, the way everyone looks the same. I don't even know why I watched it in the first place, I don't even like basketball.
So true! Man got a kid to play beach volleyball. Watched this video after 4 years and I am pretty sure the narrator will also change his mind if he had seen the whole 4 seasons of Haikyuu by now. He didn't even finish the first season before making this video and his bias towards knb is totally clear. He compared two animes at a point where one reached its climax(knb) and the other was far from it(haikyuu).
Except he was never an underdog because he has an insane jumping skill when he was just a first year, that comment should he reserve for sawamura in DNA.
@@username-lz3ht Hinata is an underdog because he will never measure up or be stronger than characters like Ushijima due to his height, he always had to try twice as hard or be more creative to fight them but he can't overcome them. Also as a player he had to depend on Kageyama, so he didn't have the chance to fend for himself. Hinata never became an Ace because of his height and so he gave up on the idea of being like the "little giant" and became the "ultimate lure" or the "shojo ninja". Most of the non-underdogs get the things they want in the end but Hinata didn't get what he wanted but rather adapted to how life made it and tried to experiment in other areas to grow. The fact that he is physically gifted does not automatically make him the ideal athlete, especially in a sport that depends so much on height. There are very few players like Hinata, Hoshiumi and the "little giant" who make it far because most of the Haikyuu characters are tall. He just thinks that individually Hinata will never beat Ushijima but with a team he can do it. Why is that? Because Hinata will always be at a disadvantage because of his height.
I watched both anime around the same time and I prefer Haikyuu by far. KnB only kept me in for the characters (and not even all, I disliked some of those kids lol), but bored me to death with some matches - especially later on. Haikyuu on the other side kept me engaged the entire series; I loved seeing the characters grow, I loved how I started feeling attached to the rival teams and ended up cheering for them as much as for Karasuno, I loved how the matches were just super intense but never overstayed their welcome. KnB has some cool characters (I'd die for Aomine), but as an overall anime Haikyuu just beats it into oblivion for me.
A character who is disliked does not mean they are a bad character. In fact, many times, it is the intention to create an unlikable character, and in that regard, the author succeeded.
Damn... When I watched kuroko no basket I never wanted to play basketball ever! But when I say Haikyuu all I wanted to do is play volleyball, and now I'm the libero on my team. I find Haikyuu so inspiring!
Me too,I played basketball but when I watch knb I don’t get motivated at all(sorry). But when I watched haikyuu,it really motivated me to play volleyball.Eventhough haikyuu is volleyball anime, but it motivated me to gets better on basketball by seeing their ambitions.Ik it’s kinda weird but yeah, this is only my thoughts not going to hate knb but yea
It irritates me how this man didn’t even watch Haikyuu!! ENTIRELY. If you didn’t fully watch something, why make a video comparing it with another anime?
@@brandonok813 yes i have, i love both anime to be completely honest. I just got irritated how this guy probably didn’t even watch Haikyuu!! and decided to make a comparison video on it.
@@brandonok813 The character development and story in Haikyuu is superior imo. Hinata went from being "useless" without Kageyama to learning various positions in volleyball. On the other hand, Kuroko didn't learn how to do much outside of his one trick, nor did he have to grow as a person. I think Haikyuu did a phenomenal job of developing each character in Karasuno AND their rivals, while I can only remember the names of 4 characters from Seirin. It was a bit hard to get invested in KnB bc I would roll my eyes whenever they had an superhuman ability or preached about basketball being magical. This is just my opinion, but here are some reasons others might disagree. EDIT: Then again, Haikyuu had much more time to put care into their characters (even the ones who only appeared for a few moments)
@@bunnymoonbloom in kuroko I just really like the character development of all the characters from hyuuga being a bad captain to a experienced captain to akashi literally losing his other personality
Lemme list some shit here because i'm shocked at how bad this was- 1. I feel like all of his points were preferences 2. The genre is sports, not "magical mary sue" 3. He clearly hasn't seen haikyuu 4. For someone who has seen the anime, read the manga, and been hanging around the fandom for some time already, like 97% of the things he says feel like complete bullshit 5. Biased video, this was supposed to be a comparison, i'm not here to listen to someone gush about a show and shit on another one he hasn't even seen... If you need to so badly, why not make a seperate video to praise your favorite show 6. The hype thing, oh my god... You're gonna get hyped for the matches when you get attatched to the characters, the story, THE ANIME, but like what can we do about one's impatient ass 7. The content doesn't go with the title, and neither does the desc lol
Yuno Gasai - season 2 ending had me so conflicted. On the one hand I want Karasuno to beat their main rival, Seijoh, but I also desperately wanted Oikawa and Iwa chan to beat their rival of 6 years, Shiratorizawa. I loved Oikawa's character development too.
Kuroke: LIVE TO WIN! TAKE IT ALL! JUST KEEP FIGHTING TIL YOU FALL! Haikyu: Started from the bottom now we're here. Started from the bottom now the whole team's here.
Couldn't bring myself to finish this video, just like the creator evidently couldn't bring himself to finish Haikyuu. If you're going to criticise a series, at least watch it first.
@@dx-dragon4399 sorry for replying so late, but he apparently at the time of this video only watched season 1 and got someone to describe season 2 and beyond
Haikyuu is better in general because it's all realistic. There are players in real life who are better than the characters. The emotions, teamwork, skill, movement and animation is so realistic that a volleyball player can agree that all of it is totally accurate. Average volleyball players can even learn things from haikyuu
Yoongi Is Married To His Award True, the premise with knb is that it revolved around the generation of miracles, players who were stupidly great in basketball.
Exactly. I know someone who joined their school's volleyball team, and the first thing their coach tells them to do is watch Haikyuu!!. That just goes to say that Haikyuu!! is realistic enough for us humans to gain knowledge from that can be used for real.
@Pepe People have their own prefrences. I like sports anime that are realistic and if you compare Haikyuu and KNB based on that, HQ has the upperhand thus I like it better. KNB is great too, but the techniques they use are sometimes unrealistic and exaggerated to the point that you may consider them as superpowers. Don't get me wrong, I like KnB too, I just prefer HQ more.
He said it and tbh I don't even know what's the point of this video. He is comparing all the 3 seasons and the movies of knb with the only one season of haikyuu he has ever watched.
@@Chingslon72727 lmao dafaq? Do u even watch real volleyball game? Look at those if u see someone do extraordinary things and i am glad haikyuu is realistic not like knb with someone having 80% accuracy on half of the court lmao
@@Chingslon72727 wait til you meet the inarizaki team, hoshiumi, oikawa's demon serve, ushiwaka's crazy power, tendou's guess block, kuroo's crazy read block, kenma's smartass, asahi's crazy force, bokuto's super straight and super cut cross shots, and akaashi's very tired mind dealing with bokuto's whining every now and then
First of all, you didn't even finish all three seasons of Haikyuu so I don't think you really have the authority to compare it to KnB. Secondly, because you didn't finish it, you didn't see that female characters are actually really really important in Haikyuu's story line. Thirdly, even though they're the same genre, they're actually of different type in the sports manga genre. KnB is more like Tennis no Ooji Sama, where there's superpowers and unrealistic moves involved. Haikyuu is more like Captain Tsubasa and Slam Dunk, there's no superpowers involved. So it's really unfair to compare these two. Lastly, I finished both KnB and Haikyuu, and while I enjoyed KnB while I watched it, it did not make me wanna go back to it again and again, it did not create a memorable spot in my brain. But for Haikyuu, after I finished it I went strait to the manga and finished it, still reading new episodes every week. I re-watched the anime 5 times already, but never got bored of it, and was always hyped af. So no KnB is not better in my opinion, and it's totally not fair to compare these two, do your research, actually finish the series, and then criticize, please.
Same here 😊. I've did the same thing. Started reading the Manga and re-watched the entire anime like five times. Each time I rewatch it or reread the Manga I see something I didn't before. I'm so hype for season 4!
To be fair, season 3 wasn't out when this review came out. But he still absolutely didn't give it enough attention to be taken seriously in his comparison.
@Ben L yea he can give his point of view and his opinion but itʻs the fact that this a comparison. Even his description is saying something about how we are going to find out why they would attract different audiences, which he does, but he is obviously putting KnB on a higher pedestal and showing Haikyuu as if it is lower when this is supposed to be a true analysis.
Haikyuu cannot be compared to Captain Tsubasa anymore IMO. If you have read recent manga chapters/arcs of both, they have gone in a completely different direction altogether.
Him: “the characters are pretty hard to relate too” Also him: “I was able to relate to most of the characters pretty easily” Me: “bu-but you just said- i’m confused...”
Kitkatmeaw 37 Maybe the answer lies on this quote from him “I could easily see some viewers preferring the more straightforward characters in Haikyuu as they might be easier for the AVERAGE person to project themselves onto”... not saying he feels as if he’s taste is better that other’s, but all in all, this oozes arrogance to me?
this guy obviously holds himself to a higher regard than others. he needs to realise his perspective of being ‘superior’ does not entail the right to insult others and call them average.
To be honest, while KnB has some funny scenes, watching it the second time isn’t as funny. But Haikyuu, I can watch it over and over again and still laugh at. But that’s just me so don’t hate We can tell that he didnt properly watch/probably didnt finish Haikyuu at all just by the things he said about the series. Haikyuu Cast just captivates me more than KnB Cast..
That's because Haikyuu has a more compelling cast with a great chemistry but, most important, it really nails the spirit, feeling and passion for sport in a better and more relatable way thab KnB, and coming from someone who runs and loves sports that's pretty important.
True I never thought that I would love to play volleyball until I watched this anime...it's so funny that this vid is just bias 😁😂 I can't take knb seriously for real...i more like the old anime basketball "slumdunk if I'm not mistaken with the name
I re watched Haikyuu!! again recently and I still laugh, cry, smile and made me have the urge to hug the losing team. I tried to watch KnB it was a meh for me stopped at ep 6 maybe? I'll try to watch it again sometime in the future but I doubt It'll change my opinion on Haikyuu!! which is my favorite anime all time since it's the only series being able to make me so attached to the main team, the opposing team and the sport, so basically every bit of it, you can't really hate on a character in Haikyuu!! And btw when I was re watching I cried more times than my first watch since I miss those volleyball dork so much. I know some people may not agree with my opinion but lemme just geek out how much I love this anime lmao.
I watched KnB around when it came out, and i really enjoyed it! But i must admit i find it hard to sit through as an adult.. Ive played both Volley and Basketball and i think Haikyuu Was better at capturing the essence of competative sports than KnB. With that said KnB is still a really good anime
I don't know whether it's just me, but Kuroko no Basket always seemed laughable to me. I just couldn't get very far into it without it seeming hollow and forgettable. Haikyuu, on the other hand, has single-handedly made me understand why people love sports. Every episode puts an enormous smile on my face and makes me feel like a kid again like no other show ever has. It's pure, bottled inspiration, adrenaline and magic and I can't stop re-watching it. Not to mention every single character is just so delightful and likable and they only get better with each episode. Each to their own, but from my personal viewing experience, the two shows aren't even in the same league. Haikyuu, whilst being fantastical with its imagery, feels curiously grounded and relatable.
I totally understand. When this video started talking about the “zone” and other supernatural aspects of KnB I automatically started rolling my eyes and gosh, laughable. For haikyuu, you explained it perfectly for me.
I think this is what he meant with "what you value in an anime and sport" if you like flasy visuals, powers overcoming each other every time as well as cocky over the top characters, well that's KnB for you, but if you like, as you said, more realistic, hard working characters that want to surpass themselves in a match that seems doable, then that's Haikyuu.
You hit it on the nail. Haikyuu is the essence of sports animated. Haikyuu is about the spirit of competition and self improvement. Each and every match gave me chills at some point, whether it was from karasuno themselves or their opponents. Haikyuu did very well at highlighting everyone's motivations and reasons to wanting to win the match they were playing; which in my opinion is what makes sports so intriguing.
The thing a lot of people don't realize is that the abilities in Kurorko no Basket is just an exaggeration of very real things shown all the time in the NBA. The insane formless shots that Aomine makes? Those are "circus shots" and are more common than you might think. The "emperor eye" that can break anyone's ankles? It's just a representation of players like Kyrie Irving, who have dozens of clips of ankle breaking players. The limitless range that Midorima has is like Curry's limitless range, and Atsushi is supposed to represent the dominance of a player like Shaq. The "zone" that some of the characters go to is also a very real thing. You can find clips of it online, like when Klay Thompson made 37 points in a quarter, missing 0 shots. That is the beauty of KnB in my opinion. It takes some of the most exciting parts of real-life basketball and puts it together to create a truly intense and exciting experience throughout. The theme in KnB of teamwork > solo is constant as well, and to say that it doesn't have a clear message would be stupid. I do admit that Haikyuu is a bit more realistic, but to try to say that KnB doesn't have anything to do with real basketball, is ridiculous.
haikyuu is an incredible show, and I really enjoyed watching it, but as a media of entertainment (not a realistic sports show) I much preferred kuroko no basket. I don't know why, but the matches felt more intense and high-stakes (especially in later seasons). And I became far more attatched to the characters of knb (especially the generation of miricles) than any of the haikyuu characters. But i understand if you like haikyuu more :)
Tbh I think it all depends on someone’s taste. I personally liked Haikyuu better because it’s just normal kids trying to reach their dreams (like you said). There’s already so animes that are over the top and ridiculous. So it was really refreshing. I liked how they actually looked younger which is a nice change from a lot of animes who make their characters look like they’re college students when they’re literally 16. Also, if you read the manga, you can actually see that as time goes on, they get older looking and more fit. You also mentioned that Haikyuu focuses on the main characters more than KnB, but if you had watched a little more of the anime, it explores and shows the struggles and dreams on the other teams/characters. Thats also one reason I liked Haikyuu better too. They don’t antagonize a team and you find yourself rooting for each team. Matches with teams with extensive backstory and development are even more heartbreaking because you don’t want either side to lose. Honestly I’ve never seen an anime where so many of the side characters are so loved as much as the main characters.
Now see, someone else tried to simplify the video and did a poooooor job at it, but this comparison is pretty amusing and actually grasps the main emotional core of both shows.
+ The reason you lost is because I was your opponent Lol you might check out Shokugeki no Souma then (Food Wars). It's specced a lot like a sports anime and involves and overdog characters and some bomb ass animation... ...It also qualifies as an ecchi though so do with that what you will =P
Haikyuu an anime where you also cheer for opposite team and feel sad after they lost yet he said not enough time was given to opposition team development
I don't really agree with Haikyuu being boring matches with confusion happening. I get pretty invested in those matches. I was screaming at my tv once the matches started lasting more than an episode. I got very invested because of how realistic it was. The way their bodies move, the physics of when they fall at times, the impact, made me hyped. Kuroko no Basuke was so over the top, I didn't get hyped at all during their games. It almost made the show predictable because of it and the over the topness became laughable. The only characters weren't too interesting minus Kuroko meanwhile I was cheering for Tobio and Hinata like crazy.
i remember when i was watching their match vs Aoba Johsai in season two iwas so hooked and invested in what was going on that i felt nervous... to the point where i started sweating... so i disagree with him when he says its hard to tell whats going on... i was also hooked when watching the matches in KnB untill they pulled the zone in zone stunt.....
True. There was a never boring match of haikyuu. I cheered for them like how i cheered for the team in our university 😂 almost every episode made me shed tears. I was like **this wasn't a tragedy anime, was it?** Hahahahaha ugh can't get enough of haikyuu. So excited for season 4~
A year ago I thought Kurokos Basketball Ball was the best sports anime and nothing else would be worthwhile. A year later......boy was I wrong after watching Diamond no Ace and Haikyuu.
i think that the difference in reality between the two is that Furudate (haikyuu's writer) did play volleyball during highschool and Fujimaki (kuroko) apparently didn't, so the point if view they would want to portray is very diferent, perspective changes everything, like there's a big difference between me and messi watching a football match (not saying any is better tho)
But being a fan and being an athlete can make all the difference in sports which is probably why the two anime are very different despite revolving around the same concept - high school sports.
I wasn't exactly bored, but it was soooo goddamn long that I just got tired of it. Idk, maybe it was less tirengly long in the anime than in the manga.
"Haikyuu can't generate hype" Have u seen the build up to the game against Shiratorizawa? Have u seen the build up to the second game against the Aobajosai? Have u seen the pressure in Asahi before the game against Dateko? And those r just the ones in the anime, don't even let me start to talk about the manga. By the way, the game against Nekoma is AMAZING and the build up for it has already started in s2 of the anime
It's just not as engaging. KnB is fun to marathon through because of the cliffhangers and high stakes in the matches, but Haikyuu feels more SoL-ish and slower. The beginning episodes of Haikyuu were really uninteresting too, which made it harder to get 'hyped' about the series overall.
Yeah Sciencepun I tend to see this thought a lot between people. Either HAikyuu is to slow to start or KnB bored them. I think it is preference really. I wonder what everyone has in common in their preferences.
Vandel Vlogs I feel like in Haikyuu, with the way they animate it, the main characters just seem so fucking cool when they do their super fast quick spike. In KnB, all the cool stuff just seems so surreal to me. Basically what KnB lacks in realism and that brings down the hype of individual plays for me, compared to haikyuu which has amazing individual plays especially from Hinata but also occasionally other characters. Overall, I'd say KnB vastly exceeds haikyuu in building hype but Haikyuu does well in making hype happen on the spot with no real build up. (as i think he said in the video)
hinata being 'useless' without kageyama is such a huge part of his individual character development and their relationship dynamic, and one of the things that make them so interesting as characters! hinata is constantly improving and becoming a stronger player individually, and kageyama is learning to be more cooperative with other players. plus, hinata's strength as a character doesn't just come from his tall jumps and fast reflexes - as suga I think says in season one, he has a tenacity to win and persevere, an insatiable passion which pushes those around him and allows him to keep going and going and going, and I think its weird to talk about his skills without bringing up this integral part of his personality. lmao this ended up being really long and I dont know how, and its only addressing one throw away line in the video but I felt like I needed to respond some how haha
Ugh. Because of your comment, I remembered how hinata grow. Before, he received the ball with his face and now, he can receive with his arms combined with his great balance. And the way he serve before... it's totally different from now. Ugghhh!! I miss them😥
exactly! there were also some moments where the rest of the team lost all hope and lost all their will to keep going. hinata kept pushing forward and this gave the rest of the team an urge to do the same and keep going and also gave them a sense of hope. and what do you know? they ended up winning. if hinata hadn't kept up with his optimism, they wouldn't have won. hell, they wouldn't have even come close to winning at all. obviously, the other characters are important, too. but, to further back this up, think about it this way, how does a group of people or even just an individual keep going if they have lost all hope? they can't, right? no matter how skilled or talented they are, you need hope or will to keep going. so that's why hinata also plays a huge part in the team and isn't 'useless'. he has undoubtedly grown so much and at this point- no one in their right mind would call him useless. if someone does, i'll ask them if they need to see a therapist or tell them they should probably have their eyes checked 👩🏻🦯
It comes across that you didn’t really pay attention to Haikyuu that much. I can understand if it wasn’t your cup of tea or even if you downright hated it, but if you’re doing a non-bias comparison video you should try your best to give each show the same level of attention despite your interest in it. Some of your comments were just baffling to me. Bear in mind, I haven’t watched Kuroko no Basuke so I really can’t complain about the way you addressed that show. But Haikyuu makes it very clear who is winning, who is losing and the stakes of each match. They often use the scoreboard or the commentary of the coaches/audience to show what’s happening in the match and the importance of it. Integral matches are hyped up, in fact, I found it strange that you missed this. From season two, episode one the conflict not only between Shiratorizawa and Karasuno, but between Ushijima and Hinata had been building. The groundwork had been set down for a climatic battle in the third season. From the fifth episode of season one we were made aware the importance of Aoba Johsai and Oikawa’s rivalry with Kageyama, coming to a satisfying conclusion with Karasuno’s victory over them at the end of season two. Even Nekoma, who have yet to face Karasuno in anything but a practise match (at least in the anime) have been built up as an integral part of Karasuno’s journey. All this was made blatantly clear, I really don’t know how you missed it. Another point you made was on how little Haikyuu focuses of Karasuno’s opponents, this also struck me as odd. Oikawa, Iwaizumi, Kyoutani, Kunimi and Kindaichi have all been given screen-time at some point to show their motivations, why they play the way they do and what it would mean to win to them. That’s just the Aoba Johsai team. Nekoma is full of characters who we see develop and learn and change despite them never playing an official match with Karasuno. I can say the same for practically every team Karasuno have ever played against, of course, less so for more trivial matches such a Wakunan or Johzenji, but I still watched the match with a certain amount of sympathy for them. At its best, Haikyuu is a show that can make you question who you’re really rooting for, because each of the characters has earned your sympathy. I can understand if you didn’t connect with any of these characters, but I’d expect you to be able to see that the show was at least attempting to flesh out these characters regardless. Finally, you made a point about the Haikyuu characters all being one-note or simple, not really complex. I think this is quite a basic understanding of each of them. You seem to have taken each of the characters at face value and nothing more. Of course, there are some more minor character who are a little more basic. But Hinata, Kageyama, Tsukishima, Yamaguchi, Noya, Asahi, Tanaka, Daichi, Ennoshita, Suga and Yachi have all definitely displayed a unique and complex set of emotions. Each of them have a moment in the series where they are tested, where we see a side of them we were previously unaware of. Tsukishima, during he Shiratorizawa match, Hinata, during the training camp with Nekoma and Fukurodani, etc. These characters have simple, grounded personalities, yes, but they display so many complex, human emotions throughout the series. I think so many people find these characters relatable because they act like normal kids. They’re not zany, overly cartoonish or quirky. Sure, they can be goofy, but they’re more grounded- like you said. However, that does not mean they are basic characters, because like normal kids, they experience an array of emotions, they react to certain things uniquely and with reason. Maybe because you weren’t massively invested in Haikyuu, you missed that. I think you made some very good points, but overall your analysis of Haikyuu had quite a few faults. I’m definitely not attacking you for not liking the show, you’re entitled to your opinion of course, but a lot of the points you made simply seemed too biased. I can’t speak for Kuroko no Basuke, but I think you missed many of the integral aspects of Haikyuu, unfortunately.
I agree. I've watched Kuroko no Basuke, but I never finished it because I just fell out of the loop waiting for new seasons. Another thing I didn't really like about knb was some of the highly unrealistic "powers" the players have and going to "the zone" was kind of bizarre for me. I never really felt any real emotional attachment to any of the knb characters, except maybe the doggo. I felt way more attached to karasuno and even other teams (particularly Seijoh and Nekoma). I was nearly brought to tears when Seijoh lost to Karasuno, even though I was super happy Karasuno won. I really don't agree with a lot of the points he made with Haikyu, with the build-up, ocnfusion of who was winning, etc... It was made pretty clear throughout all the matches.
I agree with you haikyu helps u get somewhat emotionaly attached to all the charecters even filler matches like daichi’s friends team or even wakunan or johenzi they arnt to quirky, but have enough quirk to get you ettched to them While as i sorta didnt want to watch knb that much because there wasnt all that smiles and energy coming mid way from the match while as haikyu!! Did that perfectly! Even with a very serious match when they were facing shiratorizawa,im completely agree with u
@@victorcapote7376 I feel the same. I watch both animes but KnB never bring the same hype as Haikyuu did to me. When I watched both animes again, Knb didn't bring up the hype like it used to but Haikyuu still make me so hype up. (My own experiment tho :D)
How little focus on karasuno’s opponent? Lmaoo Haikyuu is the only sport manga/anome where they shown how much a lost affected the opponent team, and made you really feel bad for them The best sport manga/anime that feels so real, like slam dunk
I like Haiyuu better than KnB, the characters seem a lot more expressionate to me and they're more relatable. Haiyuu motivates me because the characters are always trying to improve themselves. Those OP powers in KnB were fun to watch, but I prefer the more realistic problem-solving in Haikyuu. KnB was still really good though, I would stay up late while watching it because I HAD to see what was going to happen next while they played.
nebulasik i agree, but also the fact that haikyuu is always introducing new characters but also maintaining the old ones as well (unlike tokyo ghoul that introduces a character every god damn episode). Kuroko-no-Basket got very repetetive for me and i stopped after watching 5 episodes and would come back to it, unlike haikyuu which kept me constantly hooked >:3
"I prefer Kuroko No Basket" Me: Ahhhhh, now everything you've said makes sense (Intending no hate, just pointing out there because there is bias, some points that were made can be proven wrong. Just wanted to make a smol joke)
Little Sade maybe. But from what I’ve heard, they’re all playing at Kageyama’s level and beyond. I’ve watched some funny bits of KNB and yeah, it’s hard to remember they’re high school kids cause they’re freakishly tall, have deep voices and act strangely arrogant
Pfft!!! Haikyuu has no hype? Are you kidding?! Never in my life have I felt more hyped up than during the final deuce-off between Karasuno and Seijoh. I swear to God, those episodes had me staying up until three-four in the morning, clutching at my bed covers in pure excitement, feeling the same adrenaline as the team, and just barely containing the need to cheer along with the Karasuno cheer squad. (Didn't want to wake my family) The absolute elation I felt when the ball finally dropped on Seijoh's side, breaking the deuce, just about brought tears to my eyes. That is the closest moment I have ever had to understanding why people like actual irl sports. The hype was there in *droves*. And the reason for that is because I *cared* about the characters. I wanted to see them win. Because, to me, they deserved every win they could get. They deserved to achieve their dreams, in spite of everyone else's expectations. This show is 100% an underdog story. The very essence of an underdog story is wanting the underdog to win. If you aren't feeling hyped for the characters to win, then either the story has failed to be an underdog story, or you haven't properly connected with the characters, like you were supposed to. Considering you don't like Haikyuu, the fault for not feeling hype doesn't lie with the show. It lies with you. You don't like the story, and you didn't connect with the characters. *That's* why you didn't feel the hype. Because for those who actually like the show, the hype is *very* much there. You're entitled to your opinions. But you have no reliable basis to claim that Haikyuu has no hype. You are simply too biased.
@@kingslayerx1716 I'm not saying anything about KnB. I'm not comparing the two. I'm pointing out why the creator of this video is wrong to say that Haikyuu has no hype. My comment has nothing to do with KnB. I don't care which anime you guys think is "better" or has more hype. I care about the bias of saying a single show has no hype, when the person saying such doesn't even like the show, as a whole, in the first place. And it's subjective. You may think that KnB has more hype moments. But I personally don't. I was never able to get attached to KnB's story enough to feel any hype. It's too unrealistic to me. All I can think is, "that is not how physics work..." and I don't feel hype when I'm focused on that. But I'm not about to say that Haikyuu, as a fact, has more hype, just because that's how it felt to me. Hype is a very subjective thing, based on how an individual reacted to certain events and characters. It's not something you can write down in stone as a fact for everyone. That's the point I'm trying to make. Not only is hype something he can't determine for everyone else, but he is too biased against the show itself to properly say as such. Haikyuu has a lot of hype for the people who actually like the story and want the characters to succeed. End of story. My point had nothing to do with KnB.
@@kingslayerx1716 You're saying that after having replied to my other comment that was also very long? Reply to a long comment, get a long comment. Not that hard to expect. Also, people who complain about reading and try to make the person who took the time to write a long reply (because they actually care about what they're saying) ridiculous for having wrote it, are not worth my time, and are ridiculous in and of themselves. This is my last reply to you.
WHOMST. haikyuu is a master of immediately making you interested in their opponents. Even if a match only last half an episode you still feel like the opponents are vital to the story and you really feel for them. Every single character in haikyuu is so devolved that you feel every receive they fumble or moment they give up. Haikyuu is the most fun, character driven, and intensely storied anime and manga I've had the pleasure to experience. I've given kuroko no basket an honest try but they characters are flat and edgy and don't know when to laugh at themselves. They biggest difference I feel between the two series is that Haikyuu lets you enjoy your surroundings and have fun with all of the teams karasuno faces while kuroko no basket rushes you past everything so you can get to the big muscle bad guys who are so overpowered it's frankly ridiculous. Sorry for going on a tangent with the I just care about all of my volleyball boys too much ^^'
@@nikhilpandey1305 exactly knb really gives importance to opponents too, every major team fought by Seirin were showed from the inside at one moment of the serie, so we can see their personnal development and will to improve.
"The series rarely does a good job of setting up future matches or making it's opponents interesting and at times, their most important matches seem to start out of nowhere with it only becoming apparent just how important the matches are once they've suddenly been going on for seven episodes." Anything else said in this video, I might have excused but bruh, there is so many things wrong with this quote that I just can't. If it was just me, I would have left it as my personal opinion and move on, but I've heard _from several different sources_ that they like the way they set up matches, always with something personal on the line. Not only that, the match that played while this was said was a Karasuno vs Seijoh match, which spends almost a full episode setting up the actual match (not to mention that Seijoh was the _first_ enemy team that was introduced right at the start of the anime meaning that the tension between those two team have been brewing for a while.) And the thing that jarred me the most is the jab at episodes. Again, I have heard great things about the 'efficiency' of this anime in that they do not waste their time on things that aren't important. Even if for some people the pace may have felt slow, I personally never thought that. I soaked up every bit of the match and wouldn't mind them being even longer, because the things that happen in those matches _matter_. Whatever you may think, those matches matter. Every single one of them. (If I were honest, it was KnB matches that felt long to me, which is probably just a feeling, but I thought that none the less. I'm just that type of person I guess. The KnB sudden spike in animation quality during those intense matches doesn't quite faze me.)
I mean, in voleyball EVERY FUCKING POINT MATTERS xDD you can't do two or three point at a time unlike in basketball, which is why they spend more time in the actual games
I started watching KnB first, but dropped it sometime in the second season. It never hooked me, and because of that, I almost didn't give Haikyu a chance. Which I'm very glad i did. What I love about Haikyu is how it gives you a good idea how to play the sport. It does it so well that me and many of my friends started a volleyball team and started playing. And I've been in contact with other players around the area I live, who also started playing volleyball after watching Haikyu. Thats really cool, and I've never seen a series inspire people, like Haikyu has done.
haikyuu made me feel like anyone, even i, could play volleyball, whereas kuroko made it feel like basketball was a gated sport where you needed to be a prodigy to succeed.
Well Basketball does require a lot more individual talents than volleyball, and if you have played basketball you would know that and realize that entertainment in basketball comes from watching superhuman-like athletes compete at the highest level. Haikyuu I feel is too ordinary, the characters too uninteresting and the matches way too devoid of cool highlights
your so stupid lol, Kuroko the main character himself portrays the message that anyone can play basketball, you just have to cooperate with your team. It's fucking said in the final game with straights words "the key is to play together" you fucking moron
Is it bad I only watch haikyuu because I think Hinata is cuter than puppies? I just wanna ruffle his hair he's the cutest sports character I've ever seen.
As a person who was watched both animes and read their mangas repeatedly, I'd say that your opinion on Haikyuu is a bit off. But I'm not saying that your opinion on KnB is right either. Despite not being a player, I'm a fan of both sports and admittedly, I used to prefer KnB as well. It was the first anime that I've ever watched (I watched it when I was like 7?) and even though some scenes were highly unrealistic, it amazed me, since of course, I was a child back then. The plot never failed to make me cry, too, especially once you get to know the past of Kiseki no Sedai. It has very funny moments too, and despite what others say, KnB will always be my favorite sports anime. Talking about the "best" sports anime would be a different matter, though. Honestly, before I got into Haikyuu (which was just a few days after Season 3 was released), I thought that it'd be a little too gay for me, since some of the fandom upload 'some' pictures. But I decided to watch it anyway, since my cousin recommended it to me, and DAMN, just a few seconds in the first episode, and I was already crying. Haikyuu will def make you feel a surge of all emotions in an instant. I didn't particularly like the first animation since they looked a bit more like children, but slowly, the animation improved, and now, I can't wait for Season 4 to be released. Let me tell you this, whoever you are that owns this channel, you SHOULD watch Haikyuu and finish it first, before you make videos like these. I'm telling you. You'll regret ever saying that Haikyuu "bored you to tears".
Ngl. I watched both. Haikyuu first and KnB. I gotta say that he got most of both anime correct. Haikyuu spends too much time away from the story and in flashbacks mid game. Whenever characters need to become stronger it just throws in a flashback and then they start doing stuff that they should’ve been able to since the start of the game. KnB does it too but not as much. I felt no emotion from Haikyuu and the only interesting character outside of Karasuno is Oikawa meanwhile I’m in love with the generation of miracles and I feel the emotion from their pasts (barring the dual personality Akashi since that’s hard to relate with). Overall, Haikyuu felt like a lot of unnecessary wasted time. Matches don’t need to be 10 episodes long. The pacing is slow. KnB isn’t perfect either but it’s definitely better.
@@AnnoyingMobileGames I think haikyuu is better overall even tho I like knb more my issue is seriyin I think I spelled it right but I think the main team in knb was pretty weak and most of the series it’s just kuroko and kagami carrying. But when you saw other teamed they all had teammates that were helping out. It wasn’t until they had that one player come from the hospital and join the team but before that everyone on the team was useless and not very unique or interesting. But haikyuu has a team full of interesting people and everyone helps the team.
Oh no. I agreed with how everything was presented before the conclusion, but I respect your opinion on liking KnB more, but idk how you find Haikyuu boring :( I am definitely one of the ones who got fed up with KnB's supernatural abilities. Haikyuu has plenty of quirky characters and I love their interactions with each other. There's no character I dislike in Haikyuu, while KnB's arrogance gets tiring. I also like how there's a lot of emphasis on teamwork, and so the the focus is spread to many characters, while KnB is these melodramatic teens. KnB is certainly more typical shounen than Haikyuu (dramatic action and face-offs), and I've been straying from that kind of shounen genre. That's just my reasons for like Haikyuu o3o
"haikyuu characters look like children" I am convinced this dude has never seen a high schooler before like sis high schoolers arent supposed to look like they go to the gym 12 hours a day. High schoolers arent supposed to be that muscly too smh. This comparison vid was too biased ngl from putting an actual pic of knb but putting some kagehina fan art for haikyuu to saying that haikyuu doesnt have interesting character development and only focuses on karasuno. at least watch it before you do a comparison vid
The biggest thing so far that separates the anime series is that Haikyuu doesn't have a bunch of supernatural powers that can't be defeated unless the other side also has supernatural powers.
Zara Elias I love both, but I relate more to kuroko no basket as I play basketball myself, I have for 6 or so years, yet I suck at everything apart from passing. (I'm only at about episode 25 in kuroko no basket so idk if he gets better at other stuff)
*Not enough Hype* Me: Just reading the manga when it was Aobajousai vs Karasuno and Shiratorizawa vs Karasuno had me jumping on my seat the whole time. And FYI, the competitions had 3-5 chapters and believe me, IT WAS ENOUGH HYPE FOR ONE SITTING. What the hell are you talking about-

@@stoppedposting8239 no he does look like a little kid, but Kuroko also does look a lot older than he actually is because of his more defined face. Height isn't the reason.
I have watched all Haikyuu seasons and have recently completed Kuroko no Basket as well, and I have to say that I love both shows nearly equally. Although Kuroko no Basket is more complete and fresh in my memory due to the fact that I finished it a week ago as opposed to Haikyuu which I have been a fan of for over a year, my personal opinion is that Haikyuu is a lot more well-rounded as a series and I think it will still emerge as my favourite sports anime once enough time has passed for me to judge both series fairly. I won't say that it's better than Kuroko no Basket or the other way around, but I think that the characters in Haikyuu are much more enjoyable and easy to identify with as opposed to the prodigies in Kuroko no Basket (but I still love Kuroko and Akashi regardless of that fact.).
Actually, there's no mention of Hinata learning to jump higher in the manga or anime. The manga even has a mini chapter recording everyone's numbers and Hinata's hasn't changed that much. His character development is instead tracked by how much he learns of the game. It's not obvious on first viewing, but every time Hinata learns a new aspect of volleyball (for example learning the normal quick spike in addition to the freak quick) it accompanies a shift in his perspective of his play style and, to an extent, how he relates to his teammates as well as his opponents. In this particular case, it shifts Hinata's initial purely instinct play style, by introducing to him and element of strategy and thought. That it was explained and taught by Sugawara also marks a point where Kageyama and Hinata start learning to account for the players around them. This trend continues to build in the background through Yamaguchi's and Tsukishima's respective arcs, and coming to a head in their game with Aoba Johsei. Unlike in KnB, Haikyuu's character developments put a great emphasis on this sense of "being there" between the audience and the players on screen. It's tracked by their learning new moves definitely, but those moves aren't the development in and of themselves, only sign posts to tell the viewers "Hey play a little more attention. Something is happening."
18:45 “matches start out of nowhere” “hard time following how well each team is doing” did we even watch the same show?? ishiwaka was introduced a whole season before karasuno faced them, and season two’s whole training arc was building up karasuno’s revenge against seijoh. it’s not the anime’s fault you weren’t paying attention.

Ai!
I agree when Karasuno won against Aobajohsai I was happy as hell and sad at the same time for Oikawa and his team. You end up cheering for both of them.
You end up cheering for everyone lol so that makes you have mixed feels
I’d say haikyuu is suited for a younger audience whilst kuroko no basuke is for older audiences
@@a.b5263 id say the opposite
I have no idea what I’m doing with my life yes
I just
I could not do knb
The characters do have a more generic “bishie/ikemen” cast than haikyu imo
But that aside...idk when they got to the games they felt so long and boring
In haikyu, even the long running games kept me invested and on the edge my seat and I could get very into it
I like the sense of comedic relief and the character dynamics of haikyu more as well
Knb was ok but tbh it felt more like cliche anime in certain aspects...idek what to call it but it’s less appealing to me 🤷🏻♀️
Haikyu imo does great with its characters
Even lesser characters are lovable, as for they other teams...it’s hard not to root for them too
Everyone has their own struggles regardless of what team it is
Winners vs losers, it’s super hype for the winners but it’s a sad time for the losers
Even if it’s not our main focus team Karasuno, you cannot help but feel sad for the opposing team
I’m not even interested in sports but haikyu keeps me invested
Tbh there’s a newer anime ahiru no sora, which has similar dynamics imo, but it’s not the same level of hype to me as haikyu but I still enjoy it
It’s basketball tho and I definitely prefer it over knb
Neither does particularly well with the female characters. But, well, they are sports anime featuring a male team sport, so no surprise there.
But yeah, I was kind of surprised aber the vid because in my mind, Haikyuu is miles ahead in terms of character development and creating tension. I am even interested in the training arcs in Haikyuu.
I was surprised to hear that he thought that the opponents in haikyuu didn't get development, because they did
I agree with your main point but also KnB's females aren't just super sexy characters there as eye candy either.
"Kageyama could be mistaken for a middle schooler" He literally just finished middle school at the start of Haikyuu......

@@bostinobaddog2040 kageyama is also 16 and for sure he doesn't look younger, kuroo ist 17 and doesn't look younger than that and many more.

he said that as a positive thing bruh. In KnB they look like grown ass men in high school but haikyu characters actually look their age
Sumo is probably pretty high up there too.
yes true! i liked that it taught me about volleyball without boring me completely :D
Da Bro Actually it is. Specially after the premiere of Slam Dunk, which is one of Shonen Jump's best selling manga of all time. It sold more than Yu Yu Hakusho and Rurouni Kenshin.

i actually learnt the positions in volleyball from haikyuu, and began playing the sport itself, so i guess it really does show you how to play the game, like a human.

What do you mean _one._ I mean, let me just pull out the list of times that I rode the high of Karasuno winning, only to be emotionally Decapitated when I realised that the opposing team that I, somehow, along the way got emotionally attached to without even realising; has lost.

- The first fuckin episode where Hinata goes to spike even though their team is losing by 20 points
- Karsuno v Date Tech (especially Asahi vs the iron wall)
- Every time Hinata and Kageyama do an insane quick
- Oikawa nearly receiving Hinata’s spike but Karasuno takes the win season 2
- Every time Oikawa or Ushijima serves
- Karasuno’s win against Shiratorizawa and going to nationals
- All of Bokuto’s line shots
- Hinata learning how to read volleyball and using his position as a ball boy to become better at receiving
But even if I list this and you don’t like Haikyuu, that’s okay because everyone has their own opinion. I just hope you don’t shit on other people for liking something you don’t.
It so was
“Claims haikyuu doesn’t let you know a important match is happening” the seijoh game was literally built up by multiple aspects a personal rivalry between setters and a sort of passing the torch type thing and the growth of karasuno after their first loss to seijoh
The Dateko and Nekoma match were also well foreshadowed
And Shiratorizawa was even mentioned in S1 like tf is this dude even talking about

Bro that happens to me to on schooollll hahah
Haikyu! has generated hype since the beginning of season 2.
(Also the recruiting posters that yachi made)
Also saeko nee-san?? Like hello? Literally drove Hinata and Kageyma from Miyagi to Tokyo and idk about y’all but that’s really far 💀

Chuka Ceresany yes i thought this too!!

"haikyuu does a bad job of generating hype"
The millions of fans out there: IM SO HYPED FOR S4
I dont think ur statement is valid there, sorry, that's more of a subjective matter than a quality one. Just because it didnt cause hype for you doesnt mean it wont for others
sooooooo true
I hope you get what I mean, and btw i love both series and I think they're so good in their own ways and everybody should watch both :D
Also another thing that has to be mentioned is that Haikyuu!!! is not done yet! So we still have a lot to see and I'm really excited for this new season!

As Kuroko no Basuke contain both these qualities, it would be obvious that you would create an attack on it. I am Hinata Shouyou of concrete. This gives me damn chills, every time.
He only watched the first season apparently which is clearly why this is so biased

I just love how broken the English and spelling is man. Are you sure Hq!! copied KnB? Like have you actually watched both anime fully fleshed like it's a new experience? Did you watch the full 3 season and 1 movie of KnB? The 4 seasons and many other shorts and stage plays of HQ!! ?
To see enough to understand both animes?
Don't get me wrong, I love both of them, they're very different from each other. I watched both anime around the same time, though I watched HQ!! First and enjoyed it more as I am really into the fandom. I'm finishing KnB this month as I want to get into it too.

"Not nearly as much time is spent on showcasing their opponents teams." And yet I felt infinitely more connected to those side team than I did to even the main protagonists team in KnB, and that's why it could never measure up to Haikyuu for me.
I mean, whereas in Haikyuu I would watch those two teams fight and I wouldn't know who to cheer for, because if I had any say in it I would want *both* of them to win, but in KnB I would just wait for whoever comes up with the most op and ridiculous power (and know that it's like 99,9% going to be Seirin because main character shield bullshit am I right?)
In KnB it feels like the Generation of Miracles is everything and nothing exists outside of it, but Haikyuu goes out of its way to show that the story of the main characters is just the story that we as the viewers focus on and that there is more beyond that.
You didn't really watch enough Kagami is an aspiring player who wants to defeat the Generation of Miracles and Kuroko himself who played with them wants to show them that teamwork is the ultimate form of basketball.
AKiraN your dumb, you said seirin would have the op power 99% of the time, thats biasr you xlearly arr salty xd, the GoM are way better and could have won if it wasnt for skill, exept midorima he doesnt have a good team that sipports him that well exept for one person, haikyuu also has op charecters, they have the best lobero from junior high kagami who is a genious and so on, your just salty going on one side of the argument so do us all a favour and shut up
You had me at the beginning...then after you started criticizing some of the things of Haikyuu that everyone else instead praises...seriously,Haikyuu is called Hypekyuu by the fans for a reason...it has people on the edge of their seat the entire time..what the hell are you talking about? And i had such high hopes for this video...*sighs*
Please note that i love Kuroko with all my heart, even more deeply than Hq since i actually followed the knb manga from when it only had 6 chapters available up to the end (yes, more than 5 years of commitment..) and all of it's characters are dear to me in ways that most other spokon won't be able to replicate...but i'm not blind to it's fault, it's the product of a literal beginner's luck, the author was really inexperienced in a lot of things at the start...i bet if he could rewrite it all the story would be COMPLETELY different with the new experience he got in all these years (you just need to compare the first chapter to one of the lasts...HOly SHIt),so please try to see my point of view.

Or just made a video about Knb and not drag Haikyuu in? Leave it to someone who like and go fully through both animes.
@@halloween_neko IKR he should've just made a video about KnB and i would wholeheartedly watch that

@@s3aud854 Wasn't Haikyuu made before Kuroko no Basket?
⚠️THIS SLIGHTLY BIASED, also take this from the POV of a person who has actually played volleyball before and spent a few days studying Haikyuu and how each scene was delivered and what made each character so appealing⚠️
First of all, Haikyuu’s characters are supposed to look like kids.
Perfect analysis.
👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏
Boom! 'Nuff said.
I bet you get good grades in writing:/
Well yes, Haikyuu is *realistic high school sport club* anime. Meanwhile KNB is *unrealistic super power high school sport club who have this zone power with ikemen faces and in the end the protagonist or good team will won and of course the fangirls will choose ikemen faces over anything*
I totally choose realistic story of the high school boys team (who in this story about a school team vs another school team) rather than super power high school boys with ikemen faces (who in this story about a good protagonist teams vs another evil antagonist team which is so unrealistic)
I mean I'm on the other side before, (was KNB fans who adore the Kiseki no Sedai's ikemen faces) but when I watch Haikyuu, it hits me hard with their realistic high school sport story. I totally in love even I read the manga (which I never read sports manga before, I prefer watch sports anime more).

This guy doesn't know what he's talking about as digi CLEARLY said he relates to the knb characters -_-
The Hunter x Hunter 2011 Dickriding Association In terms of ability, Haikyuu is much more relatable. As for KnB that's basically trying to relate to DBZ characters.

Ninja Shoyo is the most satisfying conclusion of an underdog story
Except he was never an underdog because he has an insane jumping skill when he was just a first year, that comment should he reserve for sawamura in DNA.
the ending was so inspiring especially because of bokuto and oikawa's quotes
You should have come to Shiratorizawa!

@@max6493 I watched both but I gotta be honest, Animation, Character development, Storyline, OST and Ops in kuroko are just better imo

That's what I love about knb
As a volleyball player, I can say that every feeling, every bit of Haikyuu is 100% relatable. So damn accurate...
honestly i'm convinced that this dude didn't even try with finishing haikyuu, geez
He said it and tbh I don't even know what's the point of this video. He is comparing all the 3 seasons and the movies of knb with the only one season of haikyuu he has ever watched.

It's fair to compare any two shows on some points, like character development and such. Still think KnB is better, just game me more feels in general

That's because Haikyuu has a more compelling cast with a great chemistry but, most important, it really nails the spirit, feeling and passion for sport in a better and more relatable way thab KnB, and coming from someone who runs and loves sports that's pretty important.

Part 2 The Narrative TL;DR Haikyuu is about Rock Lees/Narutos, Kuroko is about Nejis/Sasukes.
Now see, someone else tried to simplify the video and did a poooooor job at it, but this comparison is pretty amusing and actually grasps the main emotional core of both shows.
+ The reason you lost is because I was your opponent
Lol you might check out Shokugeki no Souma then (Food Wars). It's specced a lot like a sports anime and involves and overdog characters and some bomb ass animation...
...It also qualifies as an ecchi though so do with that what you will =P
no, i would say naruto goes with Neji nd Sasuke. Haikyuu it´s about Rock Lees and Kabutos.
Kabutos? I like me some Ninja Info Cards.
That's... actually pretty accurate tbh

Ugghhh!! I miss them😥
@@lalisakim9110 HIS GROWTH !! we stan a king who fails but always gets back up again !!
digi would have known this if he watched more than a single season
exactly! there were also some moments where the rest of the team lost all hope and lost all their will to keep going. hinata kept pushing forward and this gave the rest of the team an urge to do the same and keep going and also gave them a sense of hope. and what do you know? they ended up winning. if hinata hadn't kept up with his optimism, they wouldn't have won. hell, they wouldn't have even come close to winning at all. obviously, the other characters are important, too. but, to further back this up, think about it this way, how does a group of people or even just an individual keep going if they have lost all hope? they can't, right? no matter how skilled or talented they are, you need hope or will to keep going. so that's why hinata also plays a huge part in the team and isn't 'useless'. he has undoubtedly grown so much and at this point- no one in their right mind would call him useless. if someone does, i'll ask them if they need to see a therapist or tell them they should probably have their eyes checked 👩🏻🦯

But i love both knb and haikyu😂

Lol
I am rewatching KNB and I still like it, but I was less hyped with it.
I agree with you haikyu helps u get somewhat emotionaly attached to all the charecters even filler matches like daichi’s friends team or even wakunan or johenzi they arnt to quirky, but have enough quirk to get you ettched to them
While as i sorta didnt want to watch knb that much because there wasnt all that smiles and energy coming mid way from the match while as haikyu!!
Lmaoo
Haikyuu is the only sport manga/anome where they shown how much a lost affected the opponent team, and made you really feel bad for them
The best sport manga/anime that feels so real, like slam dunk
I like Haiyuu better than KnB, the characters seem a lot more expressionate to me and they're more relatable. Haiyuu motivates me because the characters are always trying to improve themselves. Those OP powers in KnB were fun to watch, but I prefer the more realistic problem-solving in Haikyuu. KnB was still really good though, I would stay up late while watching it because I HAD to see what was going to happen next while they played.
*Haikyuu
You described my feelings about both shows perfectly!
nebulasik i agree, but also the fact that haikyuu is always introducing new characters but also maintaining the old ones as well (unlike tokyo ghoul that introduces a character every god damn episode). Kuroko-no-Basket got very repetetive for me and i stopped after watching 5 episodes and would come back to it, unlike haikyuu which kept me constantly hooked >:3

1.Haikyuu
2.My best friend
So true. :D Same here!
"I prefer Kuroko No Basket"
Me: Ahhhhh, now everything you've said makes sense
(Intending no hate, just pointing out there because there is bias, some points that were made can be proven wrong. Just wanted to make a smol joke)
You are amazing
I think there is bias because looking at the two, haikyuu is actually better told.
Little Sade maybe, I’ve only seen Haikyuu so I’m biased in my opinions as well
Kovid Cadera
I don’t like the dialogue of Kuroko No Basket. They sound less relatable and less like the children they are.
I mean kuroko, haikyuu doesn't have that much hype
Knb still has way more hype moments tbh

WHOMST. haikyuu is a master of immediately making you interested in their opponents. Sorry for going on a tangent with the I just care about all of my volleyball boys too much ^^'
I mean that's a personal bias
And knb does pay an immense amount of attention to opponents too.
@@nikhilpandey1305 exactly knb really gives importance to opponents too, every major team fought by Seirin were showed from the inside at one moment of the serie, so we can see their personnal development and will to improve.
are there other animes like haikyuu? the interactions between characters are relatable and fluffy so ye
"The series rarely does a good job of setting up future matches or making it's opponents interesting and at times, their most important matches seem to start out of nowhere with it only becoming apparent just how important the matches are once they've suddenly been going on for seven episodes."
Anything else said in this video, I might have excused but bruh, there is so many things wrong with this quote that I just can't. If it was just me, I would have left it as my personal opinion and move on, but I've heard _from several different sources_ that they like the way they set up matches, always with something personal on the line. Not only that, the match that played while this was said was a Karasuno vs Seijoh match, which spends almost a full episode setting up the actual match (not to mention that Seijoh was the _first_ enemy team that was introduced right at the start of the anime meaning that the tension between those two team have been brewing for a while.)
And the thing that jarred me the most is the jab at episodes.
Yes
I started watching KnB first, but dropped it sometime in the second season. It never hooked me, and because of that, I almost didn't give Haikyu a chance. Which I'm very glad i did. What I love about Haikyu is how it gives you a good idea how to play the sport. It does it so well that me and many of my friends started a volleyball team and started playing. And I've been in contact with other players around the area I live, who also started playing volleyball after watching Haikyu. Thats really cool, and I've never seen a series inspire people, like Haikyu has done.
Very true. I started playing volleyball again after watching Haikyu.
Koruko is better for mi not even on the same level for me
haikyuu made me feel like anyone, even i, could play volleyball, whereas kuroko made it feel like basketball was a gated sport where you needed to be a prodigy to succeed.
Dude literally the moral of the story for knb was that you don’t need to be a prodigy to win.
The whole point of knb and kuroko was the opposite?? I doubt you even watched it.
your so stupid lol, Kuroko the main character himself portrays the message that anyone can play basketball, you just have to cooperate with your team. It's fucking said in the final game with straights words "the key is to play together" you fucking moron
I mean for me it's the other way around, personally I think it's just about what sport you like more, unless you like both.
Is it bad I only watch haikyuu because I think Hinata is cuter than puppies? I just wanna ruffle his hair he's the cutest sports character I've ever seen.
It's not bad, it means you're a Haikyuu fan!

"Toilet toilet toilet Who am I? I'm gonna be the ace." Best scene ever.
No
As a person who was watched both animes and read their mangas repeatedly, I'd say that your opinion on Haikyuu is a bit off.
You'll regret ever saying that Haikyuu "bored you to tears".
haikyuu more emotianal and kuroko more badass
@@gleedgaming6359 that’s kinda fax
@@AnnoyingMobileGames lmao what do you MEAN you felt no emotion from haikyuu you must be a robot or something

I really found Haikyuu to be much more enjoyable and relatable. But like you said it all boils down to personal taste
I loved both of them.

Something about Kuroko no Basket that made me drop it right after S1 is that they made 'talent' equivalent to super powers.

The character development in haikyuu shits on kuroko's imo
plot? who dafaq even cares when you have badass 1v1 duels with aomine and kiise/kagami
Yeah like when Hinata learns to jump even higher and higher... oh wait that's not character development
When Hinata learns defeat twice and fights Kagayama is incredible character development.
That feel when Hinatas development as a player has nothing to do with jumping higher.
