They really nailed the soccer/football vibe of everyone getting WAY too into it. All the game needed was a reaction cam of someone’s fat angry father screaming at the TV.
Which is why you won't see these same type of losing animations in Battle League.
Waaayyy too over the top and wouldn't be tolerated well today. The edginess that makes Charged unique simply doesn't have a place here in 2022.
Which is honestly perfect imo because the game can be so cringe at times.

In other Mario sports games, the characters just get disappointed and move on. Here though, the characters absolutely lose their shit. And I LOVE IT. The absolute, over-the-top, pettiness is what gives this Mario sport it’s charm.

This is a franchise they need to bring back. Not sure why it just stopped.
Because Next Level Games is a small studio and can only work on one game at a time. But good news, Nintendo just bought them and they are already expanding.
They stopped because Nintendo wants Mario to be for kids. So Mario characters getting angry is a no go. Especially Wario committing suicide for sports.

It seems the GameCube and early Wii era was the era for Mario sports. I'd love to see this return though; it's pretty much the only time I've ever been invested in football! ^^

The fact Mario's animations are so plain compared to everyone else is just showing that he's a good sport. Or at least a better sport than most others.
Yeah, he growls, but he doesn't throw a tantrum. He'll slump over from disbelief, but he won't loudly cry about it.
Yeah, he keeps his cool even better than Yoshi does. And Yoshi's also one of the better ones at managing his emotions, directing them at his rivals, not his teammates.
Even though Mario's animations pale in comparison to everyone else's, they really stand out to me. Seeing Mario like that just gives me chills.

Battle League definitely shined in the fluid and polished animation department, but it’s a step down from what these lose animations have to offer
Respectfully disagree (though I do like Charged as a game better), I think these animations are a bit too mean-spirited and aggressive for some of the characters. Battle League’s losing animations seem less toxic while also keeping the personalities true.

I don't see bad news yet, though that may change. Lets hope Battle League has as much charm as Charged had.
Battle League is now on Switch but it's pretty disappointing.
Animations, gameplay and music are still good but the game lacks the charm and personality Charged had, content is very lacking (only 10 characters, various gameplay elements removed, almost inexistant solo content, animations that get very repetitive after a while, etc).
Man, what a letdown. I really hope the game will be fixed via updates because this game is clearly unfinished.

You know, I've seen people talking about how some captains go batshit insane on their own teammates, or even about how Wario FLAT-OUT *COMMITS SUICIDE* (well, okay, not really) in reaction to getting a goal scored on by their opponent...
But how is no one mentioning Mario or Luigi's angry losing animations? The former running up to the camera and growling viciously, and the latter shooting the most terrifying death glare I've ever seen, complete with a twitching eye (Mario Kart 8, eat your heart out) while saying "I'm... Luigi..." in a jarringly calm tone like he's on the verge of a nervous breakdown. It's one thing to see someone getting mad in over-the-top ways, but it's quite another to see someone going full on tranquil fury. Especially someone as good-hearted as the Mario brothers. Beware the nice ones, indeed...

I feel like the animations were better back then because it looks like they had full freedom with the character voice acting, some of the animations in Battle League just use existing voice clips, don’t get me wrong though, the animations in battle league look really fluid and impressive but it’s just that one aspect
i think they just fear people calling them out for showing such amount of "violence" and you know, fitting nowaday's standards

I honestly felt bad for Bowser and Bowser jr on their first losing animation, I mean look how sad they looked. But then Bowser decides to burn his teammates on his second animation. I can't help but to watch in shock, Calm down Bowser

Im sorry, but the music, reactions, characters, gameplay, environment, attitude, and even the animations for each character are still the best in this game. It's just a shame the new game falls flat after more than a decade of waiting. Definitely not worth the wait hardcore fans have been put through.
Nintendo’s censor on all the characters personality just made everyone so bland. The characters actually got pissed when they were scored like mario and luigi for example, now they just exclaim “oh no” and put on a sad face its so boringg :(
@@spookyw_ Exactly. There's emotion, but no Attitude to what made these characters intriguing. We never got to see characters like Peach, Yoshi, Luigi, etc lose their cool before, but they do in Charged all while remaining recognizable.
