Hi Annie, I couldn't figure which engine Westy is , W40 maybe? I'm sure you probably know but Westies have a secondary fuel filter right by the electric lift pump on the back of the engine some westies have 2 filters there. My 1990 does. they are on the 200 or 500 hours schedule but might be worth checking/replacing sometime. Good video, plenty of content less talking head! cheers warren.
Hey Warren. Ours is a Westerbeke 27A. We do have the second fuel filter, and have changed that filter a couple of times as well. It’s a bit more work to get it off, but definitely worth doing every year or so. Thanks for following and glad you enjoyed the video.
I am no expert, just from theoretical point of view: It is important for the zinc-insert to make metal to metal(electrical) contact to the rest of the engine/pump(for sure). Superfluous application of tape might prevent that? Blabla: One could check this with ohm meter, one lead on top of the zinc-insert outside the engine, the other lead to some bare metal part of the engine/pump. Check it multiple time when screwing it in(without water inside in contact with zync). Initially will show large resistance, when making contact it will suddenly drop to say way less than 10 Ohms. So maybe for times when zinc was not so much worn could be due bad contact?
I dont want to sound like keyboard warrior, but be carefull when titening new filter on do NOT use filter ranch to put it back on. You can strip it or get it po point where you will not be able to take it off. I had that on my truck once. Its hand tention only.
I subscribe to quite a few sailboats but I don't recall anyone stating what the do with the used oil. Are there places on the various islands that take the oil for refining? I always enjoy your videos. Thanks again.
Hey there. You’re welcome. We always try to find a shipyard or auto shop where they have stations for dumping the oil and properly disposing of it. Generally we can find these most anywhere or we plan to change the oil at a place where we know we will be able to find one of these. In addition, we do have a tight-sealing container we can keep the “old oil” in if we need to transport it to a place that has a dumping facility.
Linus I think this is the later model of the 35' 'after '84 called the 'Encore' where the interior had a complete redesign. You can see the drain hoses set up with a bend that straightens out if you look closely. warren
I own a few trucks (22) they all jump up like that, especially the old non-computerized controlled one's, remember when gas engines had chokes on them ? My boat has 2 1987 454's and when started the electric chokes on them jump the RPM up around 1800 turns...that's one of the reasons oil had to be changed more often than now, along with other reasons but that's one...
Great job

It looks so easy 👍👍✌🍻

Nice job guys

Nice job. Pipe dope over teflon tape if you have it, but teflon tape is fine.
Also the use of yellow gas tape works real good as fittings age.
An oil change and a Red bikini can't loose with that combo.... 😎
I can’t figure out how you can pull out the sink without messing up the pipes or hose. Whoever designed that boat was an (evil) genius.

Hi voice over ANNIE.😎
Ha ha ha... Hello! : ) Did ya miss her?
HaveWindWillTravel.com Yes! :)
They eat Zinks!
Need a fuel inhibitor!
Do not fill oil in the filter
Your engine jumps to a high idle speed right when you start it . Doesn't sound good for the engine.
