    When this album dropped, I listened to it three times in a loop on the same night. I couldn't get enough of how the songs flowed together.

      It’s funny how your comment is identical to my experience. That closing motif of “Old Flames” feeds perfectly into “Embers of Fire” to the point one could potentially listen to this album near infinitely.

    One last thing... if you ever want, in my opinion, the best Coheed has to offer listen to the Willing Wells (preferably all of 4 songs in order) from their album Good Apollo 1.
    It's as good as it gets.

    Since finding Coheed in 2003, witnessing the evolution of their talent and tastes in every aspect of what they do has been one of the greatest joys of my life. ❤

      you got quite the journey in front of you, enjoy it! I personally would start chronologically how the records release, but if I am not mistaken, that is not chronologically in the story. has been a while since i visited the fence, so I kinda forgot the lore and story in some places.

    Also, you touched on the single biggest thing that makes the band so damn good. They can go into virtually any genre and do it amazingly. That diversity makes them so easy to listen to for long periods of time and never getting bored.
    Also they are the best live band I have ever heard in my life.

    Vaxis 2 is by far Coheed's poppiest album. It's very daring for them (strange as it sounds). This song is the album's prog epic.

    The end of the track always reminds me of the end of Dream Theater's "Metropolis Part 2: Scenes from a Memory." I'm always expecting a record scratch that never comes...and i love it

    Great track indeed!
    That "pop-punk" sure sounded like boogie rock to me 🙂
    Also, I was pretty amazed about You "buying" that outro. I mean, talk about out of context/incoherent 😅 (listening to the song out of concept)
    Great analysis overall of course ❤

    • @CriticalReactions

      The ending, for me, was more about enjoying it in the moment. I completely forgot about the disconnect because I was jamming along so hard. The more that I hear music, or sections, that pull me out of the analytical experience the more I think that aspect is missing from the channel but I don't think I can change it. I know the reason I can come across as a bit cold in my analyses is because I'm not usually subjectively enjoying the music I listen to on the channel. I think the topics that I focus on and my relationship to the music's themes would drastically change if I suddenly stopped taking metal requests 😄

    • @progperljungman8218
      @progperljungman8218 5 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      So, you're saying that you're not really fit to analyse much (right off the bat) but metal? 😉

    • @CriticalReactions
      @CriticalReactions  5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Yeah, that's fairly accurate 😅

    • @progperljungman8218
      @progperljungman8218 5 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      @@CriticalReactions Seriously though, you might want to consider doing "different" kinds of analyses. First, a straight off casual reaction where you just listen for (and comment) whatever intrigues you - without alalytical mind/ear. And then listen again - analytically, off camera - to serve the analysis. You could then focus on whatever made you enjoy the track or what stands out worth mentioning from a track that didn't serve your taste too well. Or a little bit of both when applicable. Sometimes, the analytical second listen might even change your level of enjoyment, and that might be an exciting feature for the audience as well ("what will he think of it after analytical listening?").
      This protocol might be a bit tough with very long songs though 😅

    The ending orchestral part I take as more of an outro to the album and not really connected to this track as much. I think you’d really dig their newer stuff and especially this album. Looking forward to your The Dear Hunter - Antimai review tomorrow!

    I think I said on our last C&C listen that back when I explored their discography I appreciated their combination of pop hooks, post-hardcore, and proggy tendencies even if they were a bit more iterative than most of the bands in those separate genres. This must be a later track by them as I don't remember it, but it's been a while since I listened to them, but either way I think this is in-line with my general thoughts/expectations about the band. They kinda remind me a bit of The Mars Volta if TMV wanted to cut out the psychedelia and do a much more mainstream, poppy version of prog. It's definitely enjoyable, but I think it lacks that "edge" that more innovative bands have. Still very much the kind of stuff I can just put on and enjoy because it scratches so many of my musical itches.

    • @CriticalReactions
      @CriticalReactions  5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I think this was 2022 so it's their latest output. You're right about being a more digestible TMV though.

    • @ApolloStarfall
      @ApolloStarfall 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      The mars volta kinda did that with the widow. Not a bad song, but any means, but much less interesting than most of their other stuff. Same thing with coheed

    Sorry, last thing for real this time...
    I think the best song from this album is Ladders of Supremacy but the entire album is very solid and has quite a few newer ideas, even for them.

    Someone below is saying you are doing an Antimai review tomorrow?? Where can I find this? I have been waiting for you to do more The Dear Hunter for so long and Antimai is some of the best work they have ever done IMO. And that's saying something with how phenomenal The Acts are.
    Also, this album is my favorite album that Coheed as ever done. Start to finish there isn't a single song IMO that doesn't hit. This was my most played album in 2022.
