Public health nurse here - worst case scenario, vaccines will have this under control by the end of the school year. Social distancing is only keeping it from being a total disaster. We’ll get through it ❤️❤️❤️
I know what you mean about the need to separate work from home. Plus all the supplies and tech is right there! Just putting on REAL, proper clothes makes a difference. 👍
For the grid on the board - you could use it as a parking lot type of idea, where they can post other answers in the space or put a sticky note in their box.
YOU are AWESOME!!! I wish my child would have had a teacher as amazing as you are! Thank you so much! Keep up the GREAT work! Your students will have such a love of learning! Well done! :)
Your videos are so joyful all the time! It's a ray of sunshine. You really know how to take a bad situation and make it so much better. Your students are lucky to have you.
I teach 6th grade science, and we are starting online on Thursday. You just gave me SO many fun ideas for the first weeks of school. Thank you!!! :) Love your passion for teaching. Those kids are blessed to have you!
Great presentation . I retired from teaching June 26, 2019 after 41 amazing years. I taught first, second and third grades. The majority of my career was in second grade. I just want to tell you, you will love second grade. I do not miss doing data work, dealing with state tests etc. however, I do miss the kids. Second graders made me laugh every day. Good luck, looks like you are off to a great start. Enjoy the time goes fast.
I’m going to school for dental hygiene but I love watching your vlogs even though I’m not a teacher! I love the passion you have. Very thankful for teachers even during a pandemic you guys all care so much and love your students !
I’m a first year teacher this year and my district decided to start virtually! I have no clue where to start but this video was so helpful. Looking forward to more of these!
I loved this Vlog! Your excitement was so evident! I know you love being back in your classroom! Looks like you are doing an awesome job teaching virtually. We start next week. I’ve been so nervous and unsure, but you gave me some Amazing ideas. Thank you so much and good luck!
It’s great to watch your teaching vlogs again! One thing that might keep kids in check with pets and toys is to make a Friday show and tell for three kids at a time. That way there’s an outlet for them to do that.
The best of luck! Please don’t be too stressed in filming, even a 2 minute video of you talking is sooo fun! TIP: Try to make friendships between other kids so it would be so easy when they get back! Maybe some group activities where each group presents their ideas about a project and let them speak out!
I start on Monday, and I am so worried about the children being able to use the iPads to move from place to place. I plan on spending time each morning for the first week teaching them how to find the apps that we will be using. I really liked the brain break chart. Enjoy your next week of school!
I was thinking of making my first Friday morning meeting a "Pet Parade" for a one-time-only chance to show off their pets. That way they can look forward to it and (hopefully) resist the urge to bring them on without permission.
I LOVE this idea! Pets are such a huge part of our lives but I had to teach my daughter last year that our dog doesn’t need to “go to school” everyday lol
Your students are really lucky. A mom here trying to look for ideas from teachers because I am stuck with virtual learning by edgenuity and my school district is not doing anything to the kids other than giving us access to the platform. I literally cry every day
Great video! 📹 You get to be in your classroom. I have to teach in my home.🏡 I converted part of my extra room to a class (desk, erase board, cart, book box). I will not have any gadgets like you, just my laptop and dry erase board. I have to be creative. Thank you again. I like your excitement this year!
When you want to present a Google Slide presentation virtual to the whole class and still have access to your tabs at the top of the screen you can click on the address bar and make your cursor go all the way to the right. Then backspace until you get to the first forward slash. Then type in the word 'present'. Your presentation will open but you will see your tabs at the top so you can go back and forth with tabs.
Glad to see the teacher vlogs back. Would you mind sharing what your daily schedule looks like? Like what are the kids working on in between zoom meetings? Great vlog as always!😁
Golden State Educate DO IT! They loved it. I also rank them from 1-10 on how crazy they can get and then how quickly they can reign it in. They loved it
You make virtual teaching looks so fun! Great job on the slides and everything you do to make school still seem like "school" although they are still "at home". Good Job!
As a kinder teacher I'm a little worried about the focus on the screen haha. We did social zooms last spring but I knew the kids, and in general I'd aim for about 30 min and they did a good job but it was also NOT the Fall Kinders which is a whole other beast than Spring Kinders haha.
I am worried about the same things.😕 😪 These are all new kids, who don't know the routines yet and some haven't been in school at all yet. Then I'm not sure if the parents are going to be sitting there with them to assist them if they run into trouble which would be helpful but maybe they have to work 🤷🏾♀️. I know we'll figure it out but it's stressful.
@@elmariamgibson I'm not sure if this will help. Maybe you could do a scavenger hunt for your video conference. Also a conference of your learning platform. It won't be 100% but maybe it can be preventative
We did zoom last spring with our preschool and they loved it. We did a lot of singing and dancing and experiments. You just have to be extra animated to keep their attention. You will do great. Prayers!! 👍🏻
Jacque B I think that’s my problem! K is not where I’m comfortable but it was the only job available haha I loved my 4th grade class I had but I am just not goofy enough for kinder I don’t think haha
I know what you all mean. Last spring the separation got so bad that I asked parents if I could go do a social distance physical visit. I called it “literature lessons on the lawn” and we discussed our urgent novel, I teach seventh grade and I visited about ten students (more since I saw a couple more than once). One kid had mom drive home to the local park. On other time two kids from the block. It was GREAT!
Love how you kept it 100! I'm a fan. I teach 3rd grade in California. Like you I need to separate my home space and work space. You gave me a lot of great tips to try. Thank you so much! Kindly, Janice
I am seriously SO happy to get teaching vlogs from you again, Shelley!!! I love the idea of leaving space on your bulletin boards for your anchor charts. I always run into the same problem, so I may have to try that this year!
Thank you so much for all your tips and expertise on your first few days of online teaching. You mentioned having something on the screen as a countdown for the kids to know when the meeting started. Could you please explain how you did that? Thanks.
Thank you so much for sharing the virtual teaching video! My name is Sally and I am currently doing research on how teachers setting up virtual classrooms. I would LOVE to get some insights from you on how to prepare virtual teaching in a more engaging way and successful. Thank you so much for your help! Happy learning =)
OMG! This is SO amazing! I loved it. Thank you so much for this. I teach english in Mexico to 7th and 9th graders, an I'm so excited for our first day.
ok i was so sad you were not going to teach 6th grade this year bc i had accepted a 6th grade position but then i actually switched schools to a second grade position and i am so happy i still have you to inspire me with second grade now! Stealing the number talks idea for sure! Love that!
I am staying for a transitional year my school year begins on September 8th. Enjoy watching all your videos. I already get nervous each year, I feel you.
Wow I love your ice breakers. Will definitely use some of them especially if we’re distance learning as well. How often do you plan on vlogging as your ideas help out a lot.
I wouldn’t mind teaching from my room but there’s over 100 teachers at my school and I share my room so I wouldn’t have anywhere to go when the teacher is using my room. I can’t wait to make my set up. Since I’m on maternity leave I don’t get to start the school year with my kids :/
Would love to be able to see you teach a class. I am not teaching online, but that could change in the near future. I like your ideas and your enthusiasm for teaching.👍🏼
You have a lot of class room "areas" like your boards and stuff, i wonder if there is a rolling cart you can kind of proper your computer on and roll yourself around and look at different things with them. Or maybe that would be too much work lol! but it was just a thought i had. i just know if i was that age, maybe a zoom call with my teacher would be more exciting if not only you were up and moving but if you were also moving around the room. You'll definitely figure it out though, it's a learning process for sure. not easy one bit!! especially your first year after maternity leave!!
I was really hoping to see my kids' teachers offering instruction from their classroom going back to start the new school year. Hang in there everyone! We got this. 💪
I love watching your videos! Do you have products on Teachers pay Teachers? I would love to make a "Meet the Teacher" slide show without starting from scratch!
Do you have a video about your student teaching experience in California? I’m getting ready for this and would love advice because most of these videos online are people not in California 😃
1. Student need focused feedback early and often and they should be taught how to assess their own learning 2. The most effective assessment addresses problem directed questions that faculty ask themselves 3. Course assessment an intellectual challenge and therefore motivating for the faculty Guys help me to understand this huhu
I love your lettering!!! Looks amazing!!! 😃😃😃. I am in my 3rd year of teaching!!! I’m teaching Art this school year while I’m working towards the completion of my certification exams to obtain my professional certification. I would love to teach 2nd grade one day, as well as either return to teaching 3rd grade or potentially teach 1st grade one day! 😃. Where did you find your picture books and lower level books? I would love to get more lower level books for my classroom library. You’re are such an inspiration! 😃
i hope you get the chance to have your students in class and meet them in person. maybe you can have a couple days where the parents can book a time to come in so you can meet them and check in with them and see how their doing.

teambeining you’re very optimistic (and hopefully you’re right), in my country they’ve told us this will probably go on until June next year 😔
Adriana Fernández June is the end of our school year so we’re on the same page
I'm glad that you get to use your classroom and not being at home!
Why?? You don’t think teachers are teaching when they are home?
I know what you mean about the need to separate work from home. Plus all the supplies and tech is right there! Just putting on REAL, proper clothes makes a difference. 👍
Ms. Und3rst00d I doubt that’s what the OP meant.
For the grid on the board - you could use it as a parking lot type of idea, where they can post other answers in the space or put a sticky note in their box.
This is my 18th year of teaching, and I still get nervous for the first day of school. Once that's over, I'm fine.
Nubia Cardenas So do I, ever since 1989! (Time off to stay at home with my babies.)

So proud of the teacher you've become! Congrats on your little one and have a great school year!
"And on Fridays, we wear red" - I assume this is a play on the Mean Girls ref? Love it! lol
I started doing the roaring greeting with my 8th graders and they love it!
Thanks Mrs Coats. Awesome work you're doing. Glad my son has such a tech savvy teacher for his distance learning.
Me just a 13 year old girl from Australia who is already half way through the school year. Why am I obsessed with these videos

Thank you for this!! Do you share your screen or do you record yourself with the smart board in the background?

Omg, I need to find out how you made that quiz for meet the teacher! I love it

hi! can you share where to get the brain break slide? I can't find it on teacher pay teacher. thank you for the wonderful ideas
Do you recommend the macbook air for teaching? Best of luck for the school year!
I am curious to know the hours that you district is requiring of you. I teach in So.Cal and my district requires us to be online with our students for 4 and a half hours a day 4 days a week and 2 hours on Wedsday with the rest of that day being staff, grade level, and PD meetings. We also have to have online office hours for 50 minutes per day.
This may sound like a weird question, but what type of dry erase marker do you use? Not sure if its your handwriting, but the ink appeared so visible.
You got the vinyl off the board!
