- This interview (part 1) of Amy Grant was recorded on November 18, 1981 on the Jim Bakker show. The singer was 20 years old at the time, she went on to sell more than 30 million albums worldwide and cross over from Contemporary Christian to Pop Music success.

Wow ....she is so mature for 20 years old. I'm so impressed. She's so sweet too. There was an anointing when she sang to the Lord.
She graduated high school in 1978. I've seen her high school pictures online. She was far beyond her time. Very seldom does a person come along in this World as genuine as Amy Grant.
I really appreciate what she is saying about being able to talk to your parents about everything. Some parents don't realize how important that is. If they can't come to their parents, they will find strangers who will listen. And those strangers are often just temporarily in their lives, or they can be people that will steer them wrong. She is so right about this!
Kind back then, and kind now. She's known to be a light among the non believers, no matter what some ppl dare to say. I wonder if we'd all have the humility she has every time she's invited on a show, wether on secular or Christian field. Down to earth, simple and authentic. To anyone who judges her for her divorce or for the fact that she shows love to anyone, don't you ever forget that you'll be judged with the measure you judge others. And before you type something, please always apply this question to yourself: would Jesus approve what I'm goin' to say? How would I feel if ppl told gossip on my back or just expressed a judgment on my personal life and walk with God? Not all Christians have the ability to make themselves an available "listening ear" and compassionate with everybody. And you know what I mean by "everybody". And still, this is what we're called to do as Christians! That doesn't mean we have to condone sin. Of course divorce isn't what God had in mind for us all, but it happens. Have all divorced couples fallen from God's grace? Mozes had to handle many cases of divorces in the Old Testament too (cf. the letter of divorce), even though we should always look at marriage with holiness and the highest standards. I remember myself being judgmental years ago when I heard of Amy Grant's divorce, I was so deceived and frustrated, and I now feel ashamed for that. It was all my fault because I had put her on a 'role model' pedestal just because of her fame, as if she had to be perfect. I had forgotten that above all other things, Amy Grant was my sister in Christ, a dear soul Jesus gave his life for, and that she deserved my respect and my prayers, no matter what she was goin' through at that time. Life teaches us many lessons if we're humble to accept them. Just a few years after, a dear member of my family went through a divorce too. I then remember what I was thinking when Amy Grant's divorce was made public. And again, I felt bad and ashamed. When you see someone of your own family goin' through the hard process of a broken marriage, you learn to observe and be compassionate. I remember sending a message to Amy Grant's website to one day. I wanted to apologize because I had been judgmental and I lacked of love and compassion. I know that we have to remain faithful to God in all things and that the Word of God never changes. But it's individuals we are talking about here, souls for whom God sent Jesus Christ, and it doesn't make any difference wether we condone their lifestyle or not. Our work is to love people, all the people. And it is the Holy Spirit's work to convince them of sin and lead them to repentence. And even if they don't, till their last breath, we're called to show them love. Real love. God bless you all.
She is Amazing Grace. I've never been a huge fan of her music, but the way she interacts in both Christian and Secular shows showing respect to everyone reveals some darkness in my own life and makes me want to be a better person. She truly is a shining light in the world of darkness not only to the secular but to the believers. Let's all remember that God uses imperfect people. Her divorce and imperfections actually made her more relatable and shows how imperfect we are that we need God's Perfection.

I saw her in concert along with a bunch of christian artists at the Disney Land 1986 during a Nazarene night for families. She sang very well.

She was pure but naive in her youth. Experience has refined her. Stop with the unrighteous judgment already.
