Best instructional video I’ve ever seen: detailed and patient explanations break down the mechanics of speed ups along with when and where to use them. Huge thanks!!!!
Jordan is the best. You help us fellow coaches by giving the perfect outline, format, extra nuggets and order for a “speed up off the bounce” lesson plan.
This has been my favorite coaching video that you have ever done. Speed ups are such a high level skill. I have never had a better lesson for speed ups in person or online. Amazing stuff!
I agree 100%!!! I’m almost at intermediate level and never thought I could master a speed up. Jordan’s explanation and corrections will make it happen!
Jordan, Amazing video. I’ve already drilled Speed ups using your previous speed up video w/ Caden - aim for the wings. My doubles partner really liked it too and improved his speed ups. Now we’ll add in anticipating the counter after the speed up.Luv how your explanations don’t just target the upper-level player.
Very good technical mechanics with your advice. Your student was still not turning his forearm over on his shots as much as he was breaking his wrist; but your technical advice did have him making much better shots in a very short time. For me your breakdown of the key components will serve me well as I practice. Thanks Jordan!
Another excellent video. Great breakdown with examples and corrections. Love that you’re working with a student (friend). Thanks, Corbin! Keep ‘em coming Jordan. Always informative and useful, with practical tips/means to put into practice for ourselves!! 😊
With a student in yoiur teaching vdieo, it makes the quality of the vdieo into a higher level. We can see the learning process of the student, and the error and the change from the student, and it makes it easy to understand. Thanks Jordan!
I almost didn't watch this video as it's significantly longer than the average "do-this" pickleball video I watch. I am glad I decided to devote the time. Excellent presentation of a drill skill I plan to implement starting today.
This is a great format Jordan. I personally learn from this type of instruction. Keep them coming. I will be practicing this tomorrow morning. 😊Thank you.
Great informative video lesson. I like that it was done with Corbin and that you made corrections as he progressed. It was beneficial. Thanks for the insights.
I remember the red yellow green outfit in attack mode.....I thought the target was the paddle side hip for this type of speed up shot.... really like paddle head down to initiate shot with more arm action than wrist action....great lesson Jordan
This is the perfect lesson. I just happen to be adding this shot. Forehand and backhand, to my practice session. Have been traveling and have had no pickelball for 5 months, getting back to courts again. ya get rusty. Again, great lesson.
Another shot out of this is the same shot, but only the wrist flick for cross court dinking puts something on it. much more difficult, another shot for another level. I try a little arm with it, and it goes wide for me, take the arm out, and it lands in.
Jordan!! You the muthaf*ckn MAN!!! I been WAITING for someone to finally properly explain how to ve ready for the counter. Not only do you explain it but you showed examples.👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾 I feel like I owe you a Venmo because this should not be free!!! ❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤ THANK YOU🙏🏾🙏🏾🙏🏾🙏🏾🙏🏾🙏🏾🙏🏾
Love this video. It’s helped a lot! Can you create a video breaking down ALW’s two-handed backhand? My backhand is so weak! And using both hands feels awkward.
Thank you for posting. You're videos are outstanding. I'm a beginner player and just want to learn as much as I can. Not sure if this even makes sense but, is there a difference between hitting the ball at its apex versus immediately as its goes down after it reaches its apex?
“Rotation “ as in pronation of the forearm as in tennis. Plus, standing straight up leaves you open for a target. “Wristsy is Riaky” I’m not too crazy about flicking or flipping the wrist. I believe if you have proper technique there’s no need to use a vulnerable wrist. I’m old school tennis, but playing Pickleball and enjoy it! I use flat and low forehands with some slice at times; I’ve noticed players can’t read the shot or aren’t use to getting low. Just my observation. Thanks for the video👍🏼
Briones I have a question I really hope you can answer. I use eastern grip as well (pretty sure) and because of this, my back hand punches are too soft. Even though you’re not punching hard here, I see you’re setting yourself up by doing a full spin with your racket. at first I thought it was just to look cool (because you look cool lol) but now I’m realizing it’s probably to readjust your paddle positioning to eastern since you adjust it to continental or something else reactively when you’re reacting to a ball that could be a punch. I could be wrong about the specifics but if you are doing that spin to adjust, can you share what you do to hopefully help me with my punches? I need to find away around it because continental just feels too weird at this point.
Lol. That’s the problem with eastern. A. Get used to training in Eastern B. Develop a two handed backhand volley C. Switch back to continental and train that This is why I used both grips
@@BrionesPickleball I notice when it’s close, you use the 2 handed and when it’s far you use single hand. Does that mean at the kitchen line: Your forehand is eastern Close to body is 2 handed volley Backhand is continental? Do you twist your racket as you move for a backhand on your left wing? Sorry for the peculiar questions.
Idea: if you can have someone dinking crosscourt with him before he speeds it up while you line up down the line, that would give a more realistic scenario to assess and practice.
How are YOUR speed ups?
These type of videos are very informative where you have a “live”student. Thank you, Jordan!
😎
Not only is this exactly what I am currently meeting to work on in my game, but having the student in the video, really helped immensely.
Thanks !

Love the speed up! It's about patience and recognition. Wait for and identifying the right ball to attack. Thanks Jordan, great info!

The video format of teaching a live student was helpful. Lots of tidbits of information that don't come out in shorter videos.
😊
Great video on speed ups. I love how you break it down step by step. Well Done !!

You are an awesome coach Jordan. It is on my bucket list to train with you. Thanks for another great video!
I appreciate that!

Glad you like them! The difference is a few inches. Ideally, you’d always want to contact the ball higher if you can.
hard to fight against tempo 😎

great drills
😊
What paddle were you using? Is that the Labs 005?

Great video! Playing in dink round robin . Can you do back hand and attack out of the air?
Of course !

Is a speed up the same as a forehand flick or is this a forehand roll (or something completely separate from those two moves)?
Depends who you talk to, I would say the forehand flick is different
@@BrionesPickleball Thanks! Do you have a video on the forehand flick?
good content!

Great video by the way. My girlfriend was waiting next to me the full 27 minutes of it for some attention 😂 I was glued
Lol. That’s the problem with eastern.
A. Get used to training in Eastern
B. Develop a two handed backhand volley
C. Switch back to continental and train that
This is why I used both grips

can i practice this speed up off the wall?

Most speed ups in a game develop from a down the line dink or from a dink from the middle of the court.
But this is something that you can practice
👍
😎
Does it have to bounce to speed up? Can't you attack an opponents push dink that hasn't bounced?
Yes, but that’s a totally different attack
@BrionesPickleball can you cover that topic or have you already in a previous video ?
I’ll add that to the list
Love the channel. Please stop twirling your paddle.
