  • Interesting documentary/propaganda film commissioned by the Rural Electrification Administration and made by the Pare Lorentz headed United States Film Services. Both were parts of the WPA created by Roosevelt's New Deal. Director Joris Ivens shows the Parkinson's lives before and then after they have electricity run to their farm. They had actually already took advantage of the program and had electricity hooked up on the farm. They had to hide that when they filmed the first part of the documentary. Stephen Vincent Benet provides the voice over commentary. It's a great view of the times and is an important documentary film. I'm going to work on my 16mm film of Lorentz's masterpiece The River next and hope it turn out as good.
