From my point of view, when selecting a prop you first need to decide what is more important to you, hole shot or top speed. Because what I have taken from this series of videos is a good hole shot prop suffers at top speed and visa versa. On the topic of top speed, the Fury 3 @6200 rpm runs about the same speed as the Tempest+ 25p @5900rpm. My question is, wouldn't the Tempest+ 25p running the same speed at lower rpm's be better for your motor longevity wise?
David a couple of things, I will have good hole shot, I put it on plane 5-50 times a day, I run it WOT, well my last boat when I sold it with 220 hours on it was WOT 1.7% of the time, so hole shot is way more important to me, but I still want to get all the top end I can not withstanding. On the second point, if I only ran my last motor less than 6 hours over 2 years at WOT I don't think it makes a difference. It has however brought up another question I am curious about, using the Merc data through my Garmin I can see the gallons per hour the motor is consuming, so what I'm not curious about is, for example, at 50 mph if I turn one prop 4800 rpms and another I have to turn 5200 rpms to run 50, which gives me better fuel economy (as gas prices keep going up). So when I am back up and around after surgery we are going to delve into how props impact fuel economy!
@@KenSmithFishing Fuel consumption between the two props would be interesting to see, although with a mere 500 rpms between the two running at the same mph I doubt there will be a significant impact on fuel economy difference. Another factor on this test is; lets say you own and currently run prop A that runs X speed at 5200 rpms and you do not own prop B that runs the same X speed at 4800 rpms. The question is, how many hours (and I know there are too many factors to determine this) roughly would it take for the money saved on gas with the more efficient prop B would it take to cover the cost of having to purchase prop B. I suspect it would take around 2 years for someone who takes the boat out twice a week.
I am a huge tempest fan. It is always the most consistent and I’ve seen my best numbers with it. THAT BEING SAID, it’s always been an odd pitch that runs good. I’ve never had an even pitch run as fast as an odd. Just as you saw with the 24-25. RPMs and slip were way down on the 25 and speed was way up. I’m not sure what mercury does to make the even pitch props but I believe the odds are the pure poured castings. Fury’s are great when you get a good one and keep it off the bottom.
@@KenSmithFishing Not at all. Its got a 250 yam 3.3l 4 stroke. Runs 55 to 57 loaded to fish with 2 ppl, trolling motor and t-top. Little sluggish on take off with 4 or more ppl on the boat but never blows out on holeshot
Prop testing is fun. I have a 2022 vexus avx2080. 200hp v8. For some reason my boat didnt like the fury 22p 5700 rpms 63 mph consistently not the greatest hole shot with jack plate lower. Didnt like it up higher. I ran a 22p bravo 1 fs 6000 rpms with jack plate up higher due to prop diameter. Great hole shot and mid range with good fuel economy but slower 60s consistently. I just tried a 23p tempest plus last week. My boat runs best with hole shot and speed with the 23p tempest plus approximately at 5800rpms 64 mph with my jack plate up higher manual slide master jack plate due to prop diameter. It boggles my mind.
You need to install plugs in tempest ! I have never seen any boat run a tempest with all pvs plugs out that didn’t blow out, you cannot run them plug less like a fury
The most important thing I've learned,,,,, don't ride with you lol. I've not seen you think about hitting the brakes when you come to other boat wakes. At least you put both hands on the wheel
Fury 4's aren't very durable, Bravo is durable and better on my Lynx, really good handling (26 with a 300), but the Fury 3 25 is fastest. Tempest handled well but was slow.

Tempest plus is a great prop for a heavy-ish boat that needs bow lift. My bay boat loves one.

100% trim controlled, they are the best brakes and let me control the bow, now Ken Smith of 1995, that guy never touched the trim...
I'd bet the 25 pitch has been worked by Ronnie Gilbert or similar person, but the 24 pitch was stock.
I have the same motor. Came with a tempest prop. If I purchase a bravo 1 lt do I need a different hub?

How fast is the Lynx, 2 guys, livewells full, with a 300 with best weather conditions with a 300?
