Damn. I replaced the thermostat housing but this is something for a trained mechanic! I'll send an email to my mechanic and include a link to this video to see if he has the stomach for it. Thanks for the great video.
I've done both. If you tackled the thermostat housing this isn't beyond your capabilities. This isn't for you I guess since this if from a year ago. But for all others debating this now, is it my time to get my man card ?
thank you Brian for the knowledge you shared helps me out a lot to know how to do it before I start the job I appreciate your knowledge and sharing it with me
Wow... This really seems to be labor intensive. I usually to all my own work on all my Vehicles, (Diesels, cars, SUV and even my Harleys) However.... This looks like a job I might have to hand off to a shop. Last time a shop did a repair for me (other than Front End Alignments) was in 1987. Thanks for the Video.... You did an excellent job.
tomduncan1970 The cars today are getting more and more intens for sure. Thank you for writing to me and watching the videos. There's a few jobs even pass on.
Well..... I took the plunge and bought the water pump. I will be changing it out in the next week or so. I am sure that I will be referring back to your video several times to be sure that I am doing it right. I am still a little confused about that tensioner cable but... I am sure that it will make more sense once I actually have my hands on it to see how it works. Thanks again for the video!!
tomduncan1970 yes it's like a little rip cord on the tensioner. When you have it in your hands I recommend you just pull it and play with it you'll see how it moves and you'll see what I'm talking about.
I'm glad that I watched your video. I was going to do this myself, and felt confident with how I was able to replace the valve cover gasket alone and can do oil changes blindfolded. Honestly I am now scared to do this myself and will have to figure out how on earth I am going to afford the price the shop is going to charge me.
Philip this is a lot of work. If you can take it to a good independent Automotive shop that will save you some money. At least now when you get a quote you will know how much work it is and be able tell if your getting a good deal. Thank you for watching and writing!
got the job done all is well here bro ended up making more money so that's always good thank you again for the knowledge that you've shared you have a good one
Just did one of these today, except without removing the bar or jacking the engine, wasn't exactly easy! However the Mini I did it on, the friction wheel had a motor in the centre, extremely weak friction on the waterpump and it didn't even turn with the engine running, do you reckon this could be normal, I was wondering if the friction wheel only cuts in once the engine is a bit warmer? Thanks for the video, it should help me next time I do one.
Most importantly, if the friction wheel (part that has the rip cord to release tension)has any play in it replace it. I've replaced the water pump 3 times now to find out this is what's causing them to fail. Replacing the water pump isn't as bad as it looks, just make sure you have the T27 and E12 sockets beforehand. Replacing the friction wheel is easy if you do it while replacing the pump, pretty much has overlapping labor.
water pump job went great went to fill it with antifreeze and Bleed It started pouring and right away it was leaking on garage floor come to find out the thermostat housing is also crap that's what happens when people only put water in their vehicles in the winter
Thanks for the info...I am very mechanically inclined but if the water pump on my fiance's mini goes, I'm handing it off to a mechanic. I do not have torx sockets or a set of open wrenches. My crown vic is a much better made car.
Really well explained. Not rushed. No music. Thanks.

Fabian Gutierrez glad to help. Thank you for writing and watching!
Did you remove the actual drive belt?
very good information thank you
Thank you for the nice words and for watching!
Pretty sure this can be done without removing the engine mount. Admittedly though, it is very fiddly. Thanks for the vid
Mark Wright One of those ones where you have to weigh the odds is it more difficult to work around it or remove parts.
Mark Wright please post that video
My dealership makes me go from the side of the engine with literally no room to move around. Kills my damn hands...

Hi James . Nothing like a good American car I agree!!
"very" mechanically inclined...doesn't own open wrenches...
what's the belt size?
Axtuo Ax you have to check with your parts supplier I’m not sure of the size
@@HowtoAutomotive thanks...no problem...I did figure it out
