I had a gti golf exactly like that and the same color in the 90's and oh boy it was a fast little car. I would be happy if I got a mk2 gti golf now because they have that character and they are cars of the time without any pointless traction control and stabilization systems that limit how you use the car.
Even today it is more fun to drive a low HP car, fast than it is to drive a high HP car, slow. Cars like these will always be desirable because of this. You can use and abuse them to your hearts content while saving on fuel, maintenance and possible speeding tickets.
No way, AutotopNL testing a mk 2 GTI ! Mk2 owner here, always a pleasure to start my mk2's and go for a drive ! Better daily (and cheaper) than a mk1, and more fun to drive than a mk3. Love this generation !

I always thought MK 2 of Golf is the gem of all Golf series and 1,8 Gti 112 ps engine without cat. I had that engine in a MK2 1984 Scirocco. In real traffic conditions was the fuel economy vs performance mix better than many of the newer cars I owned. Except the diesels I have owned.
Exactly, and 5 of my frends had the same one, and with a direct exhaust , opened air filter box, and some ignition pre-timing it can very easily be achieved 160 hp, - which was an Incredible Blast 4 those times !!! 😀 But, one of my friends putted aturbine onto it, making 320+Hp , and was Very Succesfull at drag racing with making that Torque at lowe weight 😀 It spun tires in gears like nothing 😀
look at that nice interior, the simplicity and functionality of it. Man i miss old-school cars. Also this thing sounds better than the new cars that sound like vacuum cleaners .
Max you forgot that in the last few years of production there was a 2.0 16v version with a 150 PS engine which was later installed in the Golf GTI Mk III. ;-) PS Owned Mk I 1.6 110 PS/81 kW; Mk III 2.0 8v; Mk V DSG Stage II >250 PS.
@@deagt3388 fair enough then. South Africa got many great goodies, 2 tone interiors, leather being a not so rare option and many other things come to mind.
I had an 86 mark II 1.6, 75 hp it made around 165 km/h, but when I went to a 93 mark III 1.8 inj with 90 hp it could easily do 200 km/h, that 90 hp was later in magazines tested to deliver over 100 hp
From everyone I know that has ever owned a Mk1 and a Mk2, they'll tell you what a big leap the Mk2 feels like in terms of ergonomics, but mostly quality. I miss all the material choices from bakc then. Now it's just damn grey and black almost everywhere.
Please do a video with a Corolla GT. The first gen was around 800 kilos with a 124HP 4A-GE engine. The second gen was about a 100 kilos heavier, but the engine got only slightly more powerful (125-130HP depending on the market). I've got a Corolla hatchback 12vSR version, wich have been engine swapped with a 2nd gen 4A-GE. So basically it have the best from the first 2 generations. Lighter chassis, and a more powerful engine. It does 0-100 around 8 seconds wich is not half bad for a 40 years old car IMO. And also because of it's lightness and low center of gravity, it is extremely good around corners. So I'm curious what would you think about it
You see, you don't have to have 400 HP to have fun!! By the way it's TORNADO red not Tomado 😁 And yes the exhaust is original like that from 1985 on. ✌
One of these days you need to jump in one of of those Semi trucks and do a full review.. Dispatch calls. I think something is wrong with your tracker. We have you at 320 KPH.........?
Car Wow put a Mk1 and Mk2 Golf GTI against the Mk 3 GTI and the Mk1 and 2 were faster , also they are faster than the first Mk4 GTI which had a terrible 2 litre 115bhp engine from a VW Beetle lol thats why VW after getting complaints had to change the engine to the 1.8 turbo from the TT
Hmmm 9.3 secs? Imho i never had the feeling it ever was faster than ca. 10.5 secs and none of the official acceleration tests back in the 80s and 90s the results were ever better. 9.3 secs would suit the 112hp better. I have owned a 1988 GTI 8v 112hp (import) and 1991 107hp Edition One (import) as well as a 1991 GTI G60 Edition One (original Dutch registry!) back in the mid/late 90s. Eventhough a lovely car especially in Edition One trim, the 107hp was performancewise a bit of a disappointment even compared to the 112hp which had a bite the 107hp simply lacked. The G60 (standard 160hp and not fucked up) was another ballgame, but was especially quick in 60-100 and 80-120km/h accelerations due to the high and relatively quickly available torque.
My twingo from 2001 only had 75 hp 105 nm stock, changed exhaust only, and chipped to 90 hp and 130 nm, and now i can say i am faster than a GTI lol🤣 it's really quick, tho, good sleeper, have stock wheels but wider tires my plate : 92-HT-PX
Sounds better than 90 percent of opf cars today 😂 that exhaust sounds fruity and better than a45s 🤣🤣 Love the simplicity and basic levels, cars are way to over complicated with there Apple tech crap in the car. Be good if maybe 300 bhp upgrade 4 wheel drive beast in this shell and tighten up suspension etc.
Sounds better than most opf cars today though 😂 that little fruity exhaust is legit.. The complication of shit show cars today is a joke, apple car play 700 buttons on the steering wheel is an absolute joke. Jsit give me a car wheel 4 drive 600 bhp golf gti Mk 2 shell any day over this complicated disorganised chaoes cars today with there Bill gates Climate change opfs 😂😂
Back in the days, when you had a car capable of doing a no to 100 km/h below 10s, you had a serious sport car 😂😂😂😅😅

People have to much today, tech has made us slaves. This wouod be perfect with 300 bhp turn 4 wheel drive.

MK3 GTI next please! Make this into a series ❤️

@@bustjanzupan1074 Fair, more GTI’s is fine with me 😄
It's crazy to see just how much the Golf has grown in size over time :D

This was one of my absolute favorite "reasonably priced cars" during the 80's. This and the 205 GTI. Love oldschool hot hatches. 😍
Yes, and add a Golf 2 Gti-16 V , Uno Turbo, Renault 5 Gt Turbo, Fiat Ritmo, Renault 5 Alpine/Turbo 😀
This is now among my top 5 favourite reviews of yours. Great stuff guys!
Yes, but i think, that the 16V version could be even Better video 🙂 🙂 🙂 especially with some Turbo-setup on it 🙂
Had an g60 and a vr6 swapped mark 2. Most fun i ever had in a car.
