Here’s the thing: So many people I’ve talked to watched the movie when they were young, and now, of course, feel intense nostalgia. But for me, I never watched the movie as a kid and only discovered it now. The thing is, this music is so phenomenal, so magical that it feels like I’ve known this music all my life. It’s truly incredible.
You don't give the movie the credit it deserves. You need to understand the movie is all about bringing goodness over evil. It takes someone that believes in this apparently you do not. The music does not work without the whole movie is spreading it throughout.
A very underrated movie and score. Trevor Jones brings Jim Henson's and Frank Oz's fantasy to life with a score that I constantly find myself humming. Thank you for this post!
Indeed it is underrated and definitely Henson's masterpiece and alot better than Labyrinth! i mean don't get me wrong i like Labyrinth but it just felt too damned 80's sometimes while this has a timeless quality to it and a better score that doesnt sound like Carpenter rip off like Labyrinth's score
@@Johnlindsey289 Jim Henson wanted Labyrinth to be more lighthearted than The Dark Crystal. And to make up for the previous, he would make sure Labyrinth had lots of comedy!
My friend Andres and I just saw the 40th Anniversary of The Dark Crystal by Fathom Events at The Regal Cinema in Morrestown N.J. and No Trailers for other films just This Classic along with the music. Thankyou Fathom Events and Regal Cinema great job. Now we only have to present it in RPX where the sound rocks the seats.
Now I think it's been confirmed that the Gelfling ruins are, in fact, what's left of Stone-in-the-Wood. I'm sorry they left out, "The Pod Dance," because that's actually my favorite song.
Beautiful! The choir is a superb addition. My one complaint is how little of the actual score is used. Indeed, I would have very much liked to have heard the original version of the finale (when the castle collapses). I remember watching the original cut, and that sequence had a much more mournful, melancholy tune than in the theatrical version.
Very disappointed this score has been off of Spotify for a while, one of the most haunting and beautiful movie scores I’ve ever heard and a very big part of my childhood. Wonderfully orchestrated
One of the Melodies of my childhood & whole life... So sad, epic, sweet, dramatic and beautiful at the same time... Old time Fantasy movies & Scores... When it was not about long violent scenes & hammering annodinous music. Good taste.
One of the best and most underrated movie and modern composer. I would so dream to see this man playing and conducting his work live, and also scoring one of the next Batman movie.
@@Johnlindsey289 I loved it... was amazing. An insane shame there won't be another season... The only thing that could've made it better would be if they got Trevor to do the music for it.
Excellent. Just saw the 40th anniversary Dark Crystal from Fathom Events 4 times at Regal Cinema in Morrestown N.J. and to see my friend Andres's face who had never seen this film before light up from the quality and amazement of this film was worth every minute we spent seeing this film 4 times. This Soundtrack of the Dark Crystal is just beautiful.
Thank you Trevor Jones for Allowing me to Dream, Build, THINK, FEEL,and Create with Music and Sharing you Secret with Me When I Was Young.. The Secret I THINK and FEEL YOUNG:)
trevor jones is the greatest composer of our time, word needs to get out about this, this man deserves all of us to just love him....last of the mohicans is epic enough for God himself to listen to and cherish, just wow, just wow
Can anybody tell me what they think the scale might be for the main theme of the Dark Crystal (the first song). I can't find the sheet music anywhere online so if I knew the scale I may be able to put the notes together by ear.
Saddnes me that Age of Resistance makes so little use of the original score, not utilising leitmotifs or any musical hintings except for the opening scene with the title. Music is good in AoR but to me, "speak for the dead" is the only piece that sounds truly connected to the OG Dark Crystal. Very much in line with the Gelfling love duet piece.
Ah…. The eighties… movies with properly trained classical composers writing absolutely wonderful filmmusic. Unlike today’s tendency to have everything sound like Hans Zimmer. (not a classically trained composer)
Hi, does anyone know where to get just the overture score for a symphony orchestra? I've been looking at all the good sheet music sites and still have not found it. Any help would be much appreciated.
Hi Elisheba, if you're still looking for this please email me on info@chrissiddallmusic.com. I've just received the publishing rights from BMG and awaiting the final go ahead from the Jim Henson Company to print and distribute the above suite (score and parts).
If you're still looking for this, I have a piano arrangement available right now, and soon will have the score and parts for this suite (fully licensed). www.sheetmusicplus.com/title/overture-from-the-dark-crystal-digital-sheet-music/21167640?ac=1 Please email me info@chrissiddallmusic.com if you are interested in the orchestral score/parts so I can let you know when it's available.
Way superior than Trevor Jones' most popular score "The Last of the Mohicans" . Never really liked the movie but the score from "The Dark Crystal" is an absolute masterpiece. Among other wonderful scores from Jones, don't miss "Excalibur" "Runaway Train" or "Angel Heart" The golden 80's! The last era of movie music geniuses. Pity the sound is so low on this video.

Ennio Morricone underrated ? LOL are you high ??
Every time I hear those first 50 seconds I get tears. Nostalgia I suppose, but it's stuck with me from the age of 6.

Will he compose new music for the prequel Dark Crystal tv series from Netflix? Jones is 68...
My brother said he died. But I find no indication that he did on line. So I am hopeful that he would do the soundtrack to the TV series.
Daniel Pemberton is The composer for The Netflix series. And no, Trevor Jones is not dead.
That's right, Alejandro. Trevor Jones is 70 years old, and he's very healthy.
We still do not even know if this new composer from the series will use Trevor's leitmotives.
