    WoW! what a difference between this video and the ones that you are producing now. You are spoiling us. It still is a great video full of good ideas.

      I am thinking of doing this subject again to introduce the idea to more people. I only had 1,000 or so subscribers when I did this one.

      Maybe you could address the splitting that sometimes occurs when drawing out a bar to a point. Why does that happen---but not always, what to do or not do to prevent it from happening? In my limited experience, once I see it no matter what I do I have to cut it off. I have been trying to push my limits and get the taper I need in one heat. I am wondering if my aggressive forging is part of the problem. Did you listen to this video a bit John---the roar of the forge and ring of the anvil and the lighting? The changes are remakable.

    This is real world skill and much more common sense then a new smith fooling around making a knife or hammer right away. I try to get new students to do very similar skill tests. I can tell what students will be smiths near right away if they take these skill tests serious or not.

    Thanks John, I really need to go do this. I have been working on some flat jaw tong blanks. It took me half hour to get the jaws ready. 4 or 5 hours on rains and have a very bumpy rein that is around 1 inch longer.

    During the round taper, the auto generated CC picked up “attention attention attention”. This was specially the the hammer blows on the horn.

    I restore antique fire arms as a hobby. My current challenge ( an antique L C Smith Damascus barreled 12 gauge) has no available spare parts vendors. It has external hammers. The hammers are missing. The firing pins, springs, and retainer nipples are missing. One of the sear springs is missing. My question to you is what steel would be best for making the hammers. I have made all the parts except the hammers.

      I am guessing on the original it would have been wrought iron. But I am no gun smiths, so I can't say for sure.

      @BlackBearForge  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      I have not, but Crucible tongs are no all that different from blacksmithing tongs.

    But There are problems with your links (etsy and your Web site) they don't exist... Is it normal ?
